Hey guys, I was wondering what kind of restrictions there are on WP7 apps? Can they access the storage card? I was thinking of trying to make an app which will substitute for a file explorer, but It seems no one else has done it yet, so I thought perhaps it is not possible for some reason?
Thanks.

Zunehd Lock Screen?

Can someone make a zunehd lock screen for winmo? It works really well and looks good so I wanted to run it on my TP. I don't imagine it would be difficult. I wish I could write one, but I'm just getting into this stuff.
Thanks.

You should not open new threads requesting software here. There is a part of the forum for Questions and Answers where you can request this kind of stuff (link). Also, you have a TP2 and this section is only for the TP.
Just so you know, other than the section that I just pointed for you, you shouldn't open new threads unless you are contributing somehow to the community (roms, apps, themes, tips, fixes, etc). Thanks for understanding...

I already put one in the right forum after I realized it. I actually mistyped, I have a TP. I was just thinking about a TP2 when I typed that lol. Sorry I have been lurking around here a long time, but new to posting.
This thread can be deleted if a mod is reading.

[Q] Starting out, advice please

I've been looking into this myself and what I think I'd like to do is grab the best bits of the various ROMs I've used. No disrespect to the guys who have been making some brilliant ROMs but I'd like to dabble with a deeper layer of customisation
Is there a "kitchen" programme that will allow me to do this for x10? Also how do I check a programmes compatibility with certain kernels and basebands? Do Android .apk files rely on external libraries or files like Windows do? If so is there a way I can check an .apk's dependencies?
Sorry for so many questions but this is new to me and would like to get a handle on where to start. Thanks in advance
you can start with posting in the right sections

If you really know what you're doing, download the zips for the ROMs you like to mix and start mixing!
To see apk depedencies, perhaps decompiling them with APK Manager and checking the AndroidManifest could give you a clue.
Don't really know that much, so perhaps someone else can give you
a better answer!
Cheers Immortal, I'm guessing simply copy and pasting between ROMs won't work that well. Will look into Android Manifest, appreciated
Many apologies riginal, whereabouts should I have been looking? I assumed that being as I was asking for information about ROM building, and leading into a discussion about baseband compatability that here would be a good place to ask. I don't want to treat this place as merely a repository of other peoples work, I was hoping to learn and contribute
Chef Central has no x10 specific sections or threads that have been updated anytime recently. The X10 Q&A section here garnered no answers, not even pithy ones like your one above that serves no constructive purpose and was merely written to build your post count
You even failed to direct me to a correct area. How am I ever to learn without the simplest direction? You didn't even report my post so the actual mods could move it, or PM me so I could delete and repost elsewhere. Back to moderation school for you, I'm confiscating your banstick as well. Put that e-peen away, seriously, lead, follow or get out of the way
Apologies to the real mods, but self aggrandaising posts such as his are one of the worst things about the internet, especially fora with public post counts and status bars

[Q] LG Axis AS740 and ROM Development

First, I would like to start this post off by stating that YES I am very new to Android development, please don't flame me for this, as everyone was once a beginner. Second, I have only made one post thus far, so I am trying to abide by the forum rules, I'm hoping that I have chosen the correct section for this thread. I was going to use the development section, but noticed that it was mainly used for posting ROM's, and I didn't want to bloat up the guru's development posts with a commonly 'n00b' post (LoL).
I doubt I need to ask the question, "Where is all the development for the LG Axis AS740?", as I'm sure we all know how crappy of a phone this is, however, I would like to know if there is any current paths I may take towards ROM Development for this particular device? To be more precise, if anyone could point me to any development resources for this phone, it would be very appreciated. I have already installed JAVA JDK, and the Android SDK, so I'm on my way to learning program dev for my device. If I need any help with app development, I know I'm in the right place, as I have a immense respect for you guys here on the XDA forums because of the immense amount of information everyone has worked so hard on, and provided to the users of this forum.
I did notice the post "LG Axis Rom", I browsed it hoping to find my answer there, but no one has responded to the author. I for one do not wish for a senior member, or veteran to magically provide me with their hard work by asking for someone to develop a working ROM for me; as I have seen some poster's do. I am asking that someone be gracious enough to provide me with the information to help me onto the proper path, so that I may have a proper starting point. I have read over a few development sections, but alas, I know how development for one device can be vastly different for another.
Thanks go out to all whom may respond to this thread, and many thanks for your time, and any information you may provide.

Prefix [View] and [Flyer]

Oke guys, spread the word if you see it.
But i think its wise to start using prefixes [View] and [Flyer] in general section.
Since we dont have a separated Q&A.
So [Q][View] and [Q][Flyer] in General section will do.
Thanks

Wilco. Thanks!
Thanks for getting this done Whiskey. Hat's off to you for the hard work
why not have our own forum?
Their hardware might be similar but the software, which is what the forum provides, is not compatible with one another, so why not a completely separate forum.
Similar to how the TMobile LG G2x and LG Optimus 2x are extremely similar but still have their own forum. I understand if the View development section was dead, but we are actually pretty lively, especially since HC got released
Who can we address this too? Im sure all my fellow Viewers agree and fell the same way

Well you can send a pm to svetius, but time will tell. In the mean time we have at least a seperate Development section. I will also flag it to svetius. If we have a lot of requests it might be possible
I second, How about Flyer/View for General, Accessories, etc... Development as is as it allows cross development visibility
Against.
I have several reasons for this.
1. They are no more separate devices that and Evo 3D devices or the Xoom models. Themes, accessories, applications are pretyy much universally interchangeable.
2. There is an established inter-connected community who share information.

That is only a part of what the site provides, granted it may be the part you are interested in but some are simply interested in knowing about themes, applications, accessories or just talking to other people with the same device. Why fragment the information?
To give a current personal example, if the view had a completely separate forum I wouldn't have done anything at all when the view HC update arrived because I simply would not have known about it.
So you dont own a view butvare still able to dev for it somehow?

Evidently
Pretty rare case I must say. Most if not all other devs only support devices they own and can test with.
Lucky for us they are merged so you could write up these guides

I second globatron's sentiments. Before I bought a few Views, I had been browsing around the BB Flyer in store and reading up on the forum here as much as I could before making an informed purchase. If it wasn't for the information I learned searching through the sections before they divided, that the View and GSM/Wifi Flyer were evidently triplet brothers, I would not have made my purchases or gained the knowledge through the information given so far between all devices.
Segregating them from the start might have been smart move to reduce newbie errors, but on the other hand it also induces a 'forgotten twin' effect for the power users and developers.
Sort of like the Desire HD and Inspire 4G, they're both nearly same yet different sections are given for both, I feel it's probably tedious for those communities because they have to switch back and forth between both sections to keep up for new development and stay on top of the game.
Too much segregation might cause more harm than good, for reaching new features, (I wouldn't have known about capacitive buttons on HC Flyer) while in the end when it just takes a simple reading comprehension and disclaimer to make sure someone don't flash/follow the wrong material.
Despite what I said, I do think the entire top level Flyer forum should be renamed Flyer/View and the General, Themes&Apps and Accessories forums likewise to reflect this twin/triplet effect.

this would be a simple/good solution, who do we beg or bribe to get the change?
Glad to see View has it owns section now after that fire sell.
Forum update: We got Flyer/View Forum renamed with sub-forums also, thx to Svetius for setting it up for me. We don't need a forum specific to The View, this will do well as development continues to grow then Flyer and View will receive their own sub-forums.
Enjoy!

[Q] oprofile: functional after initial Android setup?

One of my Android phones (the third in my signature), with limited /data partition storage size, shows a large subdirectory, 'oprofile' in /data/bin/oprofile. Running out of space in this partition seems to be a common problem, so I'd like to keep it as lean as possible.
Some research shows oprofile to be a tool for 'tuning' an Android setup -- but exactly when it's useful is not clear, from what I've been able to find.
My question is, is oprofile purely useful while Android is being configured for a specific phone's hardware? In this case, perhaps someone just forgot to delete it, after it served its purpose -- and then, there's no harm in removing this subdirectory and regaining the space it consumes.
Or, does oprofile serve an continuing purpose, being used by the OS to continue the 'tuning' -- as the user adds new apps? In this case, that directory is functional and should be left alone. Or, is there data in these files, created during the initial 'tuning' that must be retained, for the benefits to continue?
? So, what to do? Take it out, or leave it in??
Moderator, should this post be moved to a different forum?
! Bump !
to the moderator, it's been three days with no reply.
Could you suggest a different forum as being more appropriate for this type of question?

Please suggest a different section, or a different forum, where there may be interest in replying to this type of question.
There was discussion of oprofile in a Developers' Forum for a specific phone, but I hesitate to repost this question into that thread -- unless you say only these folks have an opinion on this utility. This is a general question, not specific for any one brand of phone -- apparently oprofile may be used with a variety of devices, as well as other distros of Linux.
