Soft Brick, cant do ANYTHING via ADB..... - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Heres what happened. I went to flash Eugene's newest Froyo ROM, but like an IDIOT, i downloaded the wrong .zip in the OP and tried to flash it (please hold the criticisms, i realize impatience can lead to disasters). Obviously it messed everything up and im stuck at Vibrant screen.
I have ADB up and running on my work comp, but ODIN is not an option because i dont want to download anything on my work comp (IT monitors downloads, and i dont feel like dealing with their inquiries).
I rebooted into stock recovery via adb. i selected "reinstall packages" thinking it would get me to clockwork recovery, and i get this message:
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted.
Now I'm assuming this means that it cant find the clockwork .zip, but i dont see how thats possible, ive never had that problem up until now. Can anyone point me in the right direction??
-----------------
i tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777016 but it adb says "cant cd /clockworkmod" or something to that effect
------------
tried this to nandroid restore via adb: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614016 but it says "cant cd to nandroid"
was my sdcard formatted somehow??????

More than likely it formatted your internal SD, you can adb push the clockwork zip and load the revovery, but you won't be able to do much more without a rom zip to flash.
This should also be in Q&A.

Why would it format my internal?? also stock recovery is looking in E:/...my internal usually shows up as F:/

... So you don't want IT to inquire you about what you're downloading, but yet you proceed to download a ROM and not willing to download Odin + Stock?
Just wait until later tonight to go back home and Odin back to stock.

Because sometimes Flashes go awry and wipe EVERYTHING....which is why you should always make a backup of your internal SD card to your PC before you flash a new ROM.

Im not used to working with internal SD cards, and i was not aware that something like this was possible......
is there any way to recover using data recovery software (and since i pushed clockworkmod update.zip to the formatted sd does that TOTALLY eliminate my chance for recovery)? all i really want to do is access my nandroid backup and i can work from there.

{FIXED} :) 0.00 internal storage problem

ok i flashed with odin back to stock but now my internal storage is at 0 ..any ideas?
{FIXED}
This is what i did
1. Flash Odin Stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782204
2. Root Phone Via One click root http://forum.androidcentral.com/fasc...-how-root.html
3. Remove Voodoo & Replace Files http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804784
4. After step 3 do not restart just yet While in clockwork after you install Stock.zip go to "WIPE DATA" then "Restart"
It should work now. it did for me... *THANK THE HEAVENS* and the devs on here. i didnt have to do that long ass process that was stated earlier even though it was much
Did you wipe and format your sd card. Cause that's where the voodoo file is located. Delete and redo Odin.
also if u flashed with Odin back to stock u must do the disable lagfix. First off, I take it u flashed voodoo, before u flashed back to stock with Odin did u disable the lagfix?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
i thought i wiped it... so if i didnt how do i get rid of it..i tried the adb push but it kept telling me premission denied even though i could get into adb shell
HELP*** lol
Install v0.2, it fixes the internal storage problem.
OK here is what I would do. I would do the root explorer thing and add the folder disable_lagfix in sdcard>voodoo. Add the folder there and turn off the phone, then power up the phone. The phone will acknowledge the disable lagfix you installed. Give it some time . Then once the phone reboots, check your internal memory.
i cant download and install anything because of the damn 0 internal
can you get into your sd card at all?
i reformated it now i put the update.zip back on the root for clock work but now i cant boot into clockwork via normal recovery using update.zip gives me a failed signature error
oik i see odin has a option for re partition next to auto boot..should i do that?
I'm having the same problems as you. Hope someone can figure this out. I went thru with odin restore after voodoo messed things up now I am stuck.
geez i keep gettin a E: cant mount /dv/block/mmcblk0p1 (invalid argument)
Idk what the hell you are talking about. Take out your sd card completely. Put another sd card in there format it to your phone. Do Odin on your phone. Odin clockwork recovery. Apply update DI01. Then root it. Now put back your 16gb sd, format it first before hand. Then flash voodoo.

Your mbr doesn't seem to be back to stock. You can try getting into the OS and doing a privacy wipe, but if your mbr is still the voodoo mbr it won't work.
In that case you should basically try re-installing voodoo like new, then walk through the uninstall process again. You need to remove the /sdcard/Voodoo/disable_lagfix file in order to re-install voodoo.
If you get this error in stock recovery each time, the problem is still there.

yeah i've gone back to stock numerous times i dont have voodoo onthe phoen anymore no way it could be wiped phone wiped cache wipe sd card but still no goo even put a new sd card in
Does anyone know if it is safe to try to restore thru odin with phone boot loader update checked. Just was wondering if that might solve it.

[Q] Unable to install clockwork mod

Hi,
I just picked up my tablet yesterday, but am unable to install the clockwork mod. I followed the instructions in the guide thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
It is not loading the clockwork mod. I see the "Detect a recovery key pressed", see a black screen with nothing but the word "android" and then I see a large warning triangle before the system boots into the normal interface.
Could this be due to a recent change in their firmware that is shipped? Could I be missing something here? I create the folder in my removable compact sd card and copy the recovery.zip file there.
Please help, I do not want this tablet if it is to stay in the stock state....
Found out why!
I didn't extract the zip file. I simply renamed it. Stupid stupid stupid....
I hope that if anyone else here had that issue they will see this.

I started making .rar files now, just to try to make that more clear. Don't worry, I've done the same thing and I created the zip file! :O
My files are usually like this because I need to put the recovery folder in there, for non-clockworkmod users.
I'm having the same problem, However I did extract the files correctly like stated and didn't rename anything. However, I still getting the screens like you described in your post. Any ideas?
What is it doing

I am having the same issues. Running the TNT 3316 build. When trying to install the Google apps pr clockwork mod it says recovery key pressed then loading recovery kernel. then it loads a screen with a status bar and quickly reboots without changing any files. I rooted with z4 root and a sideloaded root explorer works and mounts system. any ideas?
I had the same problem and spent hours on it. Originally I used a 16gb microscope card and didn't work...then I switched to an 8gb and it worked...probably has to do with the micro SD card size. Also, press vol. Up fret followed by power and release power when viewsonic start screen comes on. Then release volume button when upper left sentence comes on
When I had the same problem it was due to recovery/command in the cwmod_v08.zip looking for update.zip at /sdcard2/ and I had copied the files over USB so they ended up at /sdcard/.
Another thing to try (I have had to do this occasionally when CW won't install), in the settings menu under the security tab, do a factory reset. It doesn't lose my settings but clears up whatever is keeping CW from installing. Once I do a factory reset then the install works flawlessly. Hope this helps someone.
Thanks

I'm having the same exact issue. 16GB SD card getting same results; can't get into clockwork mod, get recovery kernel instead. I don't know why it should have anything to do with size of SD card, but I'll try it since you had success. Thanks.

I'm using a 16gb sdcard and it works fine. Make sure when you unzip the clockwork 0.8 file that you place it on the root of the sdcard and make sure the command file in the recovery folder is pointing to the sdcard you want to use.....if the line in the command file is "SDCARD2" then either change it to "SDCARD" and use the internal sdcard card or use the external sdcard.
SDCARD
/sdcard/update.zip
/sdcard/recovery/command
SDCARD2
/sdcard2/update.zip
/sdcard2/recovery/command
Make sure the command file is there. It deletes the first time you try to install
Thanks. That was totally the problem. Need to factory reset, because the settings that the gtablet is shipped with are not the default.
I am having a similar problem with not being able to install CWM on my gTablet.
I upgraded from bootloader 1.1 to 1.2 and I am currently running this (from About Tablet):
Model Number UPC300-2.2
Android OS version 2.2
Tap UI version 1.2-4349
Kernel version [email protected] #1
Build Number FRF91
I would like to flash the Flashback 10.1 ROM but for some reason I can't get ClockworkMod back.
After I do a nvflash I attempt to go into recovery. There I will see the stock recovery with only limited options.
I copied the CWM 0.8 recovery folder and upgrade.zip to the root of the sd card.
Then when I reboot into recovery I get " Recovery key detected" and "Booting recovery kernel image" It will just sit there like that.
So I tried to just flash the rom file as update.zip and I get back into the stock Android system recovery <e3>
Options:
System Reboot
Apply Internal update.zip
Apply external update.zip
Wipe Data/Factory reset
Wipe cahce partition
Calibrate Touch panel
below that I am now getting this:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk2
(No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD2:recovery/command
I am getting very confused :-(

I think I might have figured it out. I flashed the nvflash with this from here: http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/nvflash.htm
nvflash with clockworkmod 1.2 branch.
Then I booted into that stock ROM
went to USB and deleted everything off the sdcard.
copied calkulin's format all and the flashback 10 ROM to sdcard
turned off device
booted into recovery, now CWM
flash calkulin's format all
flash ROM
Reboot
voila
hope this helps

read the person's above, seems like a hard brick from the thread he linked.
Since you can get into cwm, you could just download a custom rom place it on your micro sd and then install the custom rom onto your device.
To me it seems that you just wiped the rom on your device, so it has nothing to boot from.
I have not done any rooting or install on my prime yet, but I've been have encounter this similar problem on my htc sensation where it would just have a boot loop. I fix it by reinstalling a rom.
The problem I'm having with flashing a ROM from my micro sd card is that i can't get cwm to see my sd card.

Ah sorry didn't verify before my previous post. I think if you boot into fastboot mode, and use adb to push a zip to your sdcard would work.
If its not mounting, if the kernel/cwm has the option 'mounts' or 'mass storage' like the glitch kernels cwm has for the galaxy captivate, you can go in the n click on 'mount sd' or whatever.... it might not be mounting right away so u could try that to get it mounted

I've tried using adb while the Prime is in fastboot, and adb won't recognize it. Fastboot sees it, but it cant push files. I tried "fastboot update rom.zip" and it gives me this error
archive does not contain 'android-info.txt'
archive does not contain 'android-product.txt'
error: update package has no android-info.txt or android-product.txt
The issue was resolved by installing the universal drivers located in post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426502, then using adb to push CM9 and installing via CWM. Since Fastboot was "working" it seemed that adb should also work, but it didn't with the ASUS drivers.

i know this has been solved but FYI, to get adb to see INTERNAL SDCARD (CWM doesn't support EXTERNAL SDCARD), just go to Install Zip from sdcard, Choose zip from sdcard while usb is connected. Now push the file.
After it's finished, go to your prime, back to Install Zip from sdcard, and again into Choose Zip from sdcard. The zip should be there.

Trying to install a rom?

I'm having some trouble right now.. I rooted my phone, I put Hellybean onto my microsd card. I booted to android system recovery > reinstall packages, and then i deleted cache, formatted system, deleted the other cache etc.
I tried to find the hellybean zip on my microsd card but it was no where to be found.. So I rebooted my phone and now I have no OS, and when I boot into recovery and go to reinstall packages to try and get back to clockwork mod recovery menu it's not there either (assuming I'm missing the files to go there now).
What can I do guys? Do I need to get 2.3 back on here again and redo everything.. when I get back to where I'm going to flash the hellybean rom how do I find the file on my sd card? I went to SD folder and it wasn't there but I checked my sd card and it is there on the computer.
The ROM zip needs to be on your internal storage.
Mount on your PC, if your internal storage shows move ROM there with update.zip for Clockwork Mod.
Reinstall packages and once in cwm you'll be able to install HB from the zip.
If you can't see internal storage I'd Odin back to stock and then try again.

Sorry I didn't understand what you meant in the beginning. Mount on your pc? Explain a little?
If that doesn't work how do I use Odin to flash back to stock, what do I need to do, i don't need a full detailed guide but just what files and what buttons to press on odin.
There are lots of very detailed Odin guides. Look around. I wasn't real clear at first if you could get in CWM recovery. If you could, then you could Mount Storage and your PC would have seen the internal storage, thus allowing you to put the ROM.zip on it..
Look in the stickies for Odin guide. They are easy to follow. I'd tell you how to do it, but if you read it yourself you'll understand what your doing, and it will help you in the long run.

It concerns me that you said: "Do I need to get 2.3 back on here again"
The t959 never received an official 2.3 update. Does your device have a front facing camera? If so you have the t959v which is a very different device and is in a different section on xda.

[Q] Accidently formated entire phone, now can't flash new rom?!!

Hey folks!
I've had JellyBAM v6.5 running on my S3 i9300 and wanted to flash to 6.6, but after a one time used DarkyRom (****) i had a folder called Darky that i couldn't delete. So i thought i delete everything, data, cache, and format it.
But right after i pressed format i realised that it was not that smart of me and now i got an phone i can not boot because there is nothing on it.. :/
If i go to mounts and storage I see:
unmount /efs
unmount /cache
unmount /system
unmount /data
unmount /preload
mount /sdcard
unmount /external_sd
So everything is mounted exept the SD Card.. :/
If I go to the "Install .Zip from SD Card" i can go on the internal storage and see only the folder Clockworkmods\ so i can acces it.
But if I try to install JellyBAM.zip i get this message:
--Installing: /external_sd/rom.zip
Finding update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Than i get a other option menu on the top and it says:
Install Untrusted Package?
THIS CAN NOT BE UNDONE.
-No
-Yes - Install untrusted zip
-++++Go Back++++
And if i click Yes- Install untrusted zip, then I get:
Installing Update...
Installation aborted.
What can i do now?
Thanks!
