Trying to install a rom? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having some trouble right now.. I rooted my phone, I put Hellybean onto my microsd card. I booted to android system recovery > reinstall packages, and then i deleted cache, formatted system, deleted the other cache etc.
I tried to find the hellybean zip on my microsd card but it was no where to be found.. So I rebooted my phone and now I have no OS, and when I boot into recovery and go to reinstall packages to try and get back to clockwork mod recovery menu it's not there either (assuming I'm missing the files to go there now).
What can I do guys? Do I need to get 2.3 back on here again and redo everything.. when I get back to where I'm going to flash the hellybean rom how do I find the file on my sd card? I went to SD folder and it wasn't there but I checked my sd card and it is there on the computer.

The ROM zip needs to be on your internal storage.
Mount on your PC, if your internal storage shows move ROM there with update.zip for Clockwork Mod.
Reinstall packages and once in cwm you'll be able to install HB from the zip.
If you can't see internal storage I'd Odin back to stock and then try again.

Sorry I didn't understand what you meant in the beginning. Mount on your pc? Explain a little?
If that doesn't work how do I use Odin to flash back to stock, what do I need to do, i don't need a full detailed guide but just what files and what buttons to press on odin.

There are lots of very detailed Odin guides. Look around. I wasn't real clear at first if you could get in CWM recovery. If you could, then you could Mount Storage and your PC would have seen the internal storage, thus allowing you to put the ROM.zip on it..
Look in the stickies for Odin guide. They are easy to follow. I'd tell you how to do it, but if you read it yourself you'll understand what your doing, and it will help you in the long run.

It concerns me that you said: "Do I need to get 2.3 back on here again"
The t959 never received an official 2.3 update. Does your device have a front facing camera? If so you have the t959v which is a very different device and is in a different section on xda.

The guide to ODIN back to factory stock is in the first sticky thread of this section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
But also make sure you are using the Vibrant and flashing roms for it, not the S 4G.

Soft Brick, cant do ANYTHING via ADB.....

Heres what happened. I went to flash Eugene's newest Froyo ROM, but like an IDIOT, i downloaded the wrong .zip in the OP and tried to flash it (please hold the criticisms, i realize impatience can lead to disasters). Obviously it messed everything up and im stuck at Vibrant screen.
I have ADB up and running on my work comp, but ODIN is not an option because i dont want to download anything on my work comp (IT monitors downloads, and i dont feel like dealing with their inquiries).
I rebooted into stock recovery via adb. i selected "reinstall packages" thinking it would get me to clockwork recovery, and i get this message:
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted.
Now I'm assuming this means that it cant find the clockwork .zip, but i dont see how thats possible, ive never had that problem up until now. Can anyone point me in the right direction??
-----------------
i tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777016 but it adb says "cant cd /clockworkmod" or something to that effect
------------
tried this to nandroid restore via adb: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614016 but it says "cant cd to nandroid"
was my sdcard formatted somehow??????
More than likely it formatted your internal SD, you can adb push the clockwork zip and load the revovery, but you won't be able to do much more without a rom zip to flash.
This should also be in Q&A.

Why would it format my internal?? also stock recovery is looking in E:/...my internal usually shows up as F:/
... So you don't want IT to inquire you about what you're downloading, but yet you proceed to download a ROM and not willing to download Odin + Stock?
Just wait until later tonight to go back home and Odin back to stock.

Because sometimes Flashes go awry and wipe EVERYTHING....which is why you should always make a backup of your internal SD card to your PC before you flash a new ROM.

Im not used to working with internal SD cards, and i was not aware that something like this was possible......
is there any way to recover using data recovery software (and since i pushed clockworkmod update.zip to the formatted sd does that TOTALLY eliminate my chance for recovery)? all i really want to do is access my nandroid backup and i can work from there.

[Q] Installing a ROM using External SD Card

I recently made a mistake on my phone & got it stuck in a boot loop. I figure the easiest fix is to just wipe system & install a new ROM from the CWM Recovery Menu. My problem is I cannot access the external sd card.
When trying to navigate install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > external_sd/ it simply returns "No Files Found". I'm assuming because that's probably just a symlink.
If I go to Mounts & Storage and attempt to mount /sd-ext, I get "Error mounting SDEXT :!.
Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way, so any help would be appreciated. I'm still fairly new to the whole Android scene.
I should note that my USB Port is broken so using that is out of the question. I've already attempted twice to replace it (damn thing wont desolder), but that's a whole other bag of worms.. That I won't bother re-visiting unless it's my only option.

You install a rom with cwm through the internal sd, not external; so yeah, you're going about it the wrong way.
*tear* Just what I didn't want to hear.
a little help
you could try flashing a different kernal ie siyah pr cm9 these have different versions cwm included so you might be able to access your ext sdcard just a thought.
It depends on the version of CWR you have flashed. Whenever I run ICZen the version of CWR (5 something) that Deficient Development bakes in lets you flash zips from the external SD; very convenient.
Can the OP use DroidExplorer, and transfer a rom to the internal? I've not used DroidExplorer, but have heard it talked about.

If there isn't a ROM on the internal SD card to install from recovery, and the current kernel version does not support install from the external SD. Then I would assume you would need to ODIN to stock.
Good luck!

Why can't you use something like Dropbox or Box and upload it from your PC, then download it to your phone and transfer to the sdcard of choice with a file explorer? Then flash away. In fact I just did this the other night bc I was too lazy to go to my PC and hook up my phone. I just uploaded it with my tablet and then downloaded it to my Vibrant.
Edit::: I just re-read your OP.

This is NOT the external sd card. SD-ext is another partition that has to be set up on the sdcard with something like Gparted or MiniTool Partition Wizard. It is for when you do not have the standard Samsung 2gb partition or the /datadata partition set up. FWIW, I have never seen this particular partition set up in the Vibrant.
I can't remember what the actual Mount option is in CWR but I definately know this is NOT it. Not sure if you remember seeing it or not but when you do a Nanadroid backup, it will always skip the SD-Ext part b/c there is nothing there. This is more mainly for older phone that were running Eclair and did not have native App2sd support. It was used as a hack to force that support.
i think go to a shop get your USB port repaired and get back to STOCK if you dont have any rom on your internal sd or do a (wipe cache etc etc) so that the phone will run on the ROM's kernel

[Q] Long Story... Help

I first tried to root the phone. I succeeded. The I installed RR and it got stuck in bootloop. Basically after half an hour it was still on the Resurrection Remix Logo. So then I remembered I forgot to format the phone first.
So I formatted everything except my SD card.
So now when I press "-Choose zip from sdcard" it says No Files found. I assume this is the internal memory because when I take the micro SD card out it has the rom on it and has not been formatted.
Now heres the issue.
When I press "- choose zip from internal sdcard" it says "E:Can't mount /emmc/" which I assume is the micro SD card.
So naturally I went to access the internal memory via USB.
But the Phone is not showing up as a drive.
So I am quite literally stuck.
Many Thanks to all who reply!

Are you sure that you have formatted the internal sd card?
Why?
Wipe data (factory reset) would have been enough IMO.
So you might have to flash a whole ROM again to your phone by using PC version of Odin.
Maybe use a stock ROM which usually come as Odin-flashable tar/md5 files.
Here you can find pre-rooted stock ROMs => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608071
After flashing this, your phone should boot again and is already rooted.
Then you can flash PhilZ-cwm6 kernel from here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270.
Use the zip file and flash it like described in stock recovery.
Then you have CWM recovery.
Now you can wipe data and flash your custom ROM.
Good luck !

Thanks!
I tried to change recovery myself but that didn't help at all.
I eventually managed to solved it by sifting through my stash of micro sd cards and eventually one of them worked.
Thanks a lot for your long response!

Can't Restore Backup, Urgent Help Please!!

Okay before posting i have spent the majority of the day on this forum, the net and just generally searching for a solution. I installed the latest Omega V18 rom today with the latest Siyah-Dorimanx kernal. No issues, installed and worked fine recovered all my data. I was having a problem with Omega files kitchen, so i decided to wipe everything and try and start from fresh. I did a backup with CMW and Titanium, then i put the CMW backup ontop my laptop and wiped the phone and reinstalled everything, i was still getting the same problem and i went into Titanium and deleted all my backups, why i never know! But i still have the one on the laptop. Went for a final reinstall and obviously Titanium has no backup but my CWM backup is showing but i cant restore it in recovery mode or when the phone is on normally.
The phone works fine running Omega V18 Rom and Siyah-Dorimanx V7.43. No problem with booting or going into recovery mode, when i connect the phone to the usb on the laptop it comes up with removable disc E. My back up is on there and i can see it and open the folder and view the contents. However when i try to restore the backup either through CWM (V3.15) or booting into recovary mode the phone cannot find the back up.
I have tried all the restore options in recovery mode and i get E: Can't mount sdcard. So i'm stuck i have tried wiping all my data and doing factory reset etc and starting from the start, but still no joy. I have also tried to follow another guide on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070 When i try to load the ED05 Froyo into Odin it fails.
Im desperate for a solution i just need my pictures back Anyhelp will be greatly appriciated, is there any thing i can do?
EDIT: I have just flashed it with Odin and a stock rom, now where do i go from here? Do i have to re-root the phone and install a custom rom again.
CWM and TB don't save your pictures! They are still there, on internal or on external SD Card, if you haven't deleted them by formating. Where did you save them?
I thought CWM did a full backup? Well atm the phone is running 4.0.4 ICS and when i go into stock recovery i still get the same cant mount sdcard!! Well i did format the whole phone and did factory reset so looks like i have lost them for good then? Now its back to standard why still cant it mount the sdcard?? I have placed the right Philz-cwm6 kernel onto the internal sdcard and go into stock boot and try to apply update and comes up E: unable to mount sdcard.

Do you have an extra sd card ? I am not joking I have realized last week that I didn't bother to buy one nearly 2 years ago :good:
If you have saved your pictures on external sd card you can always take it out, put it into your sd slot in your notebook or pc and copy the files to your hard drive.

I have a small external card, but i didn't save the pictures to it or anything. I just assumed when i did my previous backups that it saved my files. Anyways i learnt that lesson the hard way it seems.
I connected the phone via usb and it came up E: Removable disc so i formatted it in windows, the put Philz kernel onto it and when into stock recovery and then tried to update via externel sd card and it fails to mount as usual. So why is E drive coming up in windows but not in the phone? Im really starting to loose my mind over this now, how do i fix this on a stock rom!
EDIT: I have flashed the Philz kernel via Odin, now i can get into CWMR Touch 6.0.1.4 I can go into the mounts and storage menu and mount /emmc but i still can't mount the /sdcard. I can now however apply an ZIP update from internal sdcard so now im getting too confused and lost i have been working for at least 10 hours on this in total so im going to bed and will try again tomorrow!!

Did you wipe system as well? Seeing that you wiped internal storage it wouldn't hurt to reflash stock ROM with Odin since there's nothing to lose. You can also use adb to push the file to the sdcard.
