What are the odds? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My replacent x10, number 4 comes tomorrow... odds on 2.1 installed?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

Slim to none

Number 4?
Wow, I couldn't get them to replace the original one.
Maybe 3rd time's the charm

I give vodafone their dues, if pushed they will help.

Out of interest what were they sent back for that justified a replacement rather than a repair?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

I'm gonna say 0.0000000001%. Knowing Sony they probably won't start shipping phones with 2.1 pre-installed until after Christmas.

@adam, 2 of them were in the 14 day direct replacement period, which one of them was faulty out the box. My experience with vodafone repairs can be not good because the turn round repairs in a day, so in my experience, if a as new replacement is offered, it usually has a better chance of being ok.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

Nope, just rba 24... Tried to register for vodafone music and the message recieve was that another sim car was registered to the phone and to proceed i would have to wipe out all music tracks... ffs... I'll try another memcard to see if i can around it, or, a call to 191 lol

Help! phone getting restart..

My phone is getting restart almost once everyday. I gave it at the SE service centre,he installed the android OS once again. But still the same problem. Service centre employee says if it again restarts then he will give it to the company. So now I have 2 options:
1. Give it to the company
2. Wait for the froyo update as the problem might get solved after that.
It would be great if anyone could tell me which option to choose or if anyone could tell me why it is happening.
Sent from my E10i using XDA App
What i remember is that i never had a restart when running the clean android. sometimes when installed an app. if you have no apps istalled i would go for the return. the froyo is still far from perfect at the moment.
Send to the company

There will not be froyo for our devices, so probablyy what he ^ said

A friend of mine had a phone that rebooted every now and then, he sent it to service centers, you know, the whole chain. After a while he bought a new phone, that also rebooted a few times every day. Then one day he got himself a new SIMcard and the problem was gone. He changed back to his old phone but with the new card. And it worked!
What i am trying to say: try with a different SIM card

Thanks for the help. I want to tell you one more thing. That few days ago my phone was absolutely dead. It was not able to charge. So I gave it to the service centre. They once again installed the android OS. From then only I am facing the problem of rebooting.
So I mean to say that since the phone was running fine before dead with the same SIM so I guess SIM is not a problem. OS must be the problem. So froyo update might solve it.

What would you do?

I had problems with my data about a week ago and Big Red did all kinds of test on my phone with nothing resolved. 36 hrs. Without data and a new phone was sent to me. Now my old TB is working fine so it was Verizons service in the area that was down. My question is should I used Revolutionary root to restore my old phone and root the other or leave it as is? My phone isn't hurt always in a case and a screen protector.

I would always keep my first brand new phone. Anything sent to you as replacement is like-new. Service is up and down as they tweak their system. Keep old phone.

My original was sent back in June when all the problems with the reboots were going on.

i agree. whenever you get a "like new/refurbished" product, you have no idea what happened to it originally(or how good the "fix" was) or more importantly, how much use it's been put through and how much life it has left.

Touchscreen dead?

So a few days back, my mini pro started to act weird; when the keyboard was out the touchscreen wouldn't work. By the evening the whole screen stopped working. Warranty is out, so I tore down the whole phone, checked all the connections but in vain. I flashed the phone back to stock firmware, but still stuck with no touchscreen. I think this is a pure hardware problem. And I'm kinda scared to give my phone to these private dealers, they might swap out the original parts for fake ones, learned the hard way when I gave in my old Nokia for repair.
So I thought I'd share my problem with you guys, any help would be appreciated.

Bro, its an hardware issue.. The flex that connects from motherboard to the display is damanged.. Give it to the nearest Sony ericsson service center n get it replaced.. Do not give it to private vendors.they tend to spoil your phone.. Dont worry even if ur not on stock ROM or kernel.. Just tel them not to upgrade your software during the process..else it'l be fixed. Cheers..

Thanks for the real quick reply man, I thought so. With that in mind I took the phone apart and check the connections. Finding them intact I came to quite the same conclusion.
Any idea how much this would cost?

Here it cost me about 1.5k.. Not much tho. ;-)

There are 2 things that would cause what you describe:
1. the mic hole is plugged or blocked by something. Look on the bottom edge of your phone and you will see a very small hole. This is for the microphone. If there is something plugging the hole, you can use a needle or something similar to clean it out. Dont blow directly into the hole, it will just force stuff deeper into the hole towards the microphone.
2. If there is nothing blocking the hole or if it still does not work after cleaning, then the microphone is bad and needs replaced. You can take it to your carrier if you have insurance or find a cell phone repair facility near you and have them replace it.
I will try to clean and see if it works I called this mobile place but he said he don't replace them cuz its very. Hard thanks

Well I will admit that its not the easiest to replace, but any cell phone repair technician should be able to solder a new microphone on for you. If he cant do that, I wouldnt take your phone there for any type of work because it doesnt sound like he is qualified to perform some repairs.
True ill try to look for a better shop wait what you think it will be the cost to replace the mic
Sent from my HTC Mecha using xda app-developers app
Well that depends entirely on the shop, but probably in the $50-75 range.
So I Googled for shops in my area no luck its the same as other shops that its hard yo change that so I guess the only thing left is use it for 3 months how it is or get a replacement for 100$
Sent from my HTC Mecha using xda app-developers app
Well if you have a backup phone you could always use that phone and then mail-in your Thunderbolt to get it repaired at a shop that can actually do it for a reasonable price. I just did this exact repair on Monday and it worked fine, no problems at all.
Where do you live and what is the name of the shop

I sent you a PM with the details. Let me know if you have any questions.

Id bet money that you will have problems with your samsung at some point. No flagship is free of issues.

C`mon man...we`re not interested in selling or throwing your phone to garbage!
we all know about the xperia s problems.we do not need you to remind us of them.
unless u have to say something usefull( e.g how to get rid of those annoyng bugs from ics or how to repair the yellow tint...or how to improve the battery life) please leave us and buy a ugly Samsung...or HTC or whatever you like! you will find that all the phones have their problems
at least....xperia s with all his problems is a f#^#n` sexy phone...the rest are just...phones
fake HD Pentile display vs Sony's bravia engine HD display.
No thanks.
If not because of the yellow tint issue that was killing me, i would keep it until the 2013 line realeased.
Xperia S is hell a of a sexy phone.
100% agree but cause I need a phone that works and could not face another 5weeks with out it been repaired had no choice. Now I am no fan of Sammy far from it but when I will have an average of 40 calls a day on my mobile (busy upto 65) needed something that would work.
I still much prefer the xperia S but how it looks is not that important or how it feels if that was the case might have chosen the lumia.
Now I have no preconceptions that Sammy make a better phone this actually feels so plasticly you would not believe but when it comes to making and receiving a call its working. I do not have to worry now (at the moment) about people complaining they can't here me with all the beeps cause proximity is bust, and nore do I have to strain cause yellow tint was getting worse and worse, or the endless FC just using the contacts looking up a number (after re flashing bringing back to stock etc.)
Yes my robot who built my xperia was on the oil too much but when they could not issue a replacement why should I stay.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I never had any problems on the S with force closes and such (system apps anyways). I would much rather have a yellow screen (that can be repaired) than a blue screened plastic fantastic device to be honest. You can't fix the cheap body and a blue screen.
Everyone has their opinions and such so it doesn't matter. I find this thread in general a bit unnecessary but whatev
