I've probably Odin'd my phone 50 times by now. It's not so daunting a task.
i dosent seem hard to do. but from what i understand i will lose all my data (apps, contacts, photos, videos) true?
I never lose anything but apps when using odin unless I go full out and start with eugenes group that doesn't brick then stock. If you just flash it to stock that stuff should be safe

The same thing happened to me awhile back. Did you have usb debugging enabled? Can you access download mode?
i did have debugging on. and i was able to get to download mode. so i just followed steps back to stock thu odin. but all my everything cept my photos and vids got erased. and now im back to jfd. and not able to get ji6 over the air. and for some f-ed reson i cant get my phone to hook up to kies. urg. any advice?

You can use odin to flash JI6. There is a thread with it in the development section. You do not need the pit file, just load up the .tar and you are good to go.

I had installed Voodoo and went to install one of the AOSP roms available. I didnt realize that it would overwrite the kernel and now upon booting the phone will go into FC loops. I cant get anywhere and cant get into CWM. I thought I would try using ODIN to get back to stock but now its doing the same thing at stock. I'm at a loss. What should I do? Is my phone Perma-bricked?
Was it my rom? I don't think it deletes the kernal?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
blue breeze. I didnt think so either but now I get nothing but FC's from startup. So I tried to flash back to stock. Still nothing.
Oh my there are going to be a lot of these...
I don't know. I think that IF I had flashed the ROM first and then Voodoo I would've been fine. Unless I'm wrong and that's not what caused the issue. Any solution or am I out of a phone?
why can't you get into cwm? even by turning your phone off and holding the volume keys and the power button?
It goes to stock recovery, always has. I could only get into CW by going to ROM manager and booting into it that way.
do the update.zip and it should take you to cwm
the reason you're in FC HELLLLLLL is cuz you flashed over voodoo. that's why JT said don't flash over vooodooooo. you can fix it by going back to stock with odin. then i suggest loading bubby's kernal then voodoo over that.
Ive tried going back to stock with ODIN and it still does it. I'm going to try re-downloading the stock files and do it again. BTW the FC's are: android/process.media, and TwLauncher. I cant even get to any kind of homescreen or settings to turn on debugging.
i tried going back to stock with odin because i wanted to remove voodoo anyway before i flashed a rom and still am getting FC's like crazy
Have you tried this?
Have you checked this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807088 ...would be a good idea....
I tried to Odin to stock T-Mo but I cant get passed the Galaxy S boot screen. It just goes black and if I touch the buttons they light up but phone stays black. I tried a number of times also clicked on repartition in Odin. Odin tells me everything passed but when the phones boots ROM Manager screen comes up goes through a check list with one line in red that reads "Data wipe Failed"
Can someone please help me out. Ran Odin many times but I cant get the phone to go back to full stock. I click repartition but it seems Odin does not wipe the internal SD. I am so vexed. Someone help
I have never partitioned. Or whatever. That can cause a soft brick.

I have before in it went well. The phone (my wifes) was bricked to begin with. It would not go past the white vibrant screen. So I Odined back to stock. It goes through the T Mo stick together screen then gets to the Galaxy S animation. But after the galaxy s logo he screen turns black and only if I touch the buttons to the buttons light up. I tried to reflash via Odin a number of times but I cant get the phone to fully boot.
What ROM you had before going back to stock?
Any lagfix? If yes disable it..

You should do it again. No repartition. Wipe data. Dont touch it. Odin will boot up the phone when its fully done.

Try eugenes froyo that doesn't brick then reset odin and then go to stock firmware I mean it couldn't really hurt anything

Okay it also accured to me to try Eugenes. So I did and it worked. But I can not install any programs. It tells me there is not enough space. Then when I look at settings/storage on the bottom it reads 0 space for apps.
Strange no? Any ideas
Thanks to everyone so far. I really appreciate it!
As I understand it as soon as you odin eugenes froyo you have to reset odin get the phone into dl mode again then use odin to put in the stock firmware

Yeah. Tried it on this phone which is my wifes and it bricked for some reason.
You gotta find a way to disable voodoo. Theres a way to disable it by putting something directly into the Voodoo folder but I cant find it =/

Jacs kernel always gave me bricks for some reason. Do what they said again. Flash to eugenes froyo that doesnt brick with repartition checked. Then RIGHT AWAY make sure you have the jfd rom for odin and flash that using odin with repartition unchecked. Dont try to flash a clockwork recovery rom from eugenes froyo that doesnt brick because you arent done fixing it at that point.

once this is fixed if you want voodoo, upgrade to a 2.2 rom and use supercurios own modified kernels. Never had a problem with them.

I cant get to the voodoo folder. I tried every firmware there is and only Eugenes froyo will fully boot. But I cant install any apps so I can get to me system folders so i can see whats going on.
Im so stressed and tired it aint funny.
When I flash a T Mo rom and the phone reboots and goes through a series of line checks (yellow text) I get red text that reads "data wipe failed". Then the phone boots, t mo jingle, then galaxy s screen, then black.
Anyone??? Devs? PLease?
Do you have root explorer?
Was official froyo rooted, decided to flash CM7 through clockwork, worked just fine, nothing wrong there. but i was not able to get Google apps so i couldnt get titanium. Decided to go back.
In (clockwork)recovery i did a factory wipe and then odin'd back to 2.1
That worked fine, then i realized that the backups on the SD weren't deleted like i thought they would be since i did a factory wipe, so i tried to restore it in clockwork recovery. After the restore i press reboot system now but it doesn't go past the Vibrant screen, instead it reboots after a little then goes back to the vibrant screen, then it reboots again and goes to default recovery.
Help?
You restored a froyo backup on an eclair kernel sounds like, need to get into download mode and odin again

You go to ODIN get to stock...right?
Then you flash clockwork recovery on that... right?
Then you put a ROM on your SD Card... right?
Then you flash it from there... ;D
^ thats it... Check my signature for step by step in detail "Going back to stock"
Does samsung kies still have a chance of bricking your vibrant? I just used odin to flash back to stock and now I want to go to 2.1> 2.2>2.3>4.0.
I wouldn't risk it........

I got into cm7, and then i wiped data, cache, and tried to flash ics passion. After that, i kept getting boot looped and didnt have recovery so i had to use odin. Now im back at 2.1...what did i do wrong?
Get back to that point and when it bootloops, pull the battery, boot into recovery again and reflash ICS over itself.
From my guide
Once you are in recovery, scroll down to your folder and find the ICSv? (or whatever version you are wanting to flash) and flash it. First boot takes a long time just like before on CM7. Might also get into a bootloop like in CM7 too. If so, then do the same as before and reflash ICSv?, but this time you'll have to use the Volume-Down + Power (or if on Froyo Bootloaders the above key combo) to get into recovery. Boot up and you are good to go in you new ICS rom.

When you say that you didn't have recovery. Was that a custom recovery or you just saw the stock again? There should be no reason why you would not have recovery of some sort.
Agreed, pop your battery and return to cwm and flash, the kernel has updated, it should go now, listen to uncle wood.
and never use kies for anything!!!!!
Never kies
Go straight to 4.0. No need for in order. 2.1 is easiest to flash from anyways.
I've probably flashed hundreds of times now, test roms/kernel Worst case have to heimdall.
One time (n00b days) used Kies mini and it hard bricked me. Had to get jtagged riffbox.....

u will hard brick ur phone if u use kies ....from 2.1 go directly to cm7 from there use whichever u want .....
Yep .KIES can HB your mobile. I also updated via KIES from 2.1 --> 2.2 (OMG I didnt knew then.. Thanx goes to Woodrube for pointing that out.)
If you need to go to 2.2 there are always better way to than using KIES. this is a great thread which Now im using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674519
tc
edit: No need to update to 2.2 brfore going to ICS. Its always better to flash back to stock before flashing ICS.
Never use kies, period. There are plenty of other options out there. Just in case you guys don't know about the EU bug, you should definitely read this if your planning to run ICS.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580902. I'm currently running a 2.2 ROM until this bug is figured out.

Hello.
Im using ripper rom on my s3 and everything on the phone was working ever since i got the rom(even going into reboots and recovery) but today i downloaded an update that i was supposed to flash and when i select reboot into recovery from the shutdown menu for some reason it went into download mode and i can't get it out of it =/
The only thing i did besides download the update(Which i didn't get to install/flash) was a backup with nandroid, but i did them before and restored from them and never had a problem.
Does anyone know what could it be and how to fix it? Do i really need to use the odin software? I have seen some threads that suggest a fix using odin and going back to stock, but i didn't even use odin on this rom (only once when i got the phone to put it back to stock and haven't used it again.
Thanks!

REMOVE THE BATTRY AND WAIT FOR 5 mins aND then insert it !
I couldn't even get into recovery =/ i ended up restoring back to stock firmware via odin, then installed recovery and root.
I finally got the phone working again, but i have no idea why it decided to go on a "download mode" loop. Hopefully it won't happen again and if it does, i will try your advice to take the battery out for 5 minutes and see if works ( i did remove the battery but put it back right away to try to go into recovery, but with no luck).
Anyway, thanks for the help!
