Has anyone found a software tool that will show Cell Broadcast Info, as what the average nokia phone will do. Have played around with tracelog, but would ideally like a today plugin that displayed the info.
AFAIK, under Settings -> Phone -> More tab, you can setup the cell broadcast channel you are interested it.
However the annoying thing is, as cell broadcast messages are basically SMSes, pocketpc basically regards them as normal SMS messages, and store them into your Inbox.
And yes, a pluging for Today sounds like a very good idea. :wink:
P.S. I can never get anything out of the TraceLogger... what have you set to make it do/show something?

The thing to which you are refering is an "enhancement" that the networks can make to provide value added features such as news & weather reports. It's use is dependant on whether its been implemented by the network. That cell will just send any info its programmed with to any unit that has the facility switched on/enabled.
I think that Lampard is after Cell ID type stuff. Rest assured that if you follow the instructions in This Thread you can obtain a readout in real-time of your current cell id + some other bits. Its a case of running the tracelogger & then start-up the tracelog viewer after, otherwise it doesn't work, only reporting historical.
I'm afraid I do not know of any other available programs to make use of or display this info.
I am a developer with an existing android app. Users have asked for a wifi only mode to avoid roaming charges when traveling. I believe I have set it all up successfully but want to be able to validate that theory..
What I am trying to figure out is if there is an app or other way to trap the data coming out of the app via the cell network (lots of background web service calls). Since I do not own all of the web services, I cannot trap from the server side.
Any ideas? I basically want to turn on a trace like you would do in SQL, and look at what is being transmitted on the phone when wifi is off but cell is on. I don't need the actual packets, just that a call was made to one of my https services. If a call is made in wifi only mode, then I know I didn't get everything.

to get smart relay activated properly you must first turn on the mobile data connection on your phone then the mobile data connection on your watch. if the gear s has auto mobile data defaulted, in 60 seconds you will not have to activate it manually.
This method is to get the calls forwarded. Again, to establish the remote connection both phone and watch mobile data connections must be established. If youre connected to wifi the remote connection will not work.
Once call forwarding or remote connection has been established it is not necessary to keep the mobile data connections on either the phone or watch. The remote setup has been worked out through your cellular provider and there isn't a need to keep data on if you don't need them.
This must be done every time to get it working. I'm using both a tmobile bought gear S and note 4. It all works brilliantly.
if i have the phone and watch connected, and i receive a call, and answer it from the watch, will i speak from the phone? its easier to slide from the watch...
Hello I'm having great problems with remote connection. All I get is error message when I try to activate it. all it says is error has occurred please try again. I have note 4 and tmobile. I'm stuck and been researching for 2 days now. Any ideas?

Redo call forwarding setup both on gear manager and watch itself
Mine takes 2-4 tries to connect but after that its flawless
It has to have remote connection first to do the call forwarding
Any ideas?
A good reset/Uninstall the apps always helps me
Yeah tried. Nothing. Now its not recognizing my sim card
i get the same error forwarding calls when moving from BT to mobile connection. although the watch shows me the notifications, it keeps the error.try again.
how do i redo the call forwarding protocol on both devices?

I am nor completely clear.....are you saying that each time you know you will be leaving your phone at home, you must manually set up Remote Connection and then turn it off when you reconnect to the watch via bluetooth? I thought is was supposed to be automatic. Also, does this Remote Connection require a data plan to allow it to function? I am in Canada and none of the carriers have a "wearable plan". I just purchased a prepaid nanoSIM from Rogers and signed up for a talk & text plan but no data and I don't want to be paying big $ for data if the watch requires data to function with Remote Connection. HELP!

As far as I'm aware there are actually two separate issues to consider here.
1) If you turn on Call Forwarding in the Gear Manager app on your phone, then calls to your phone (using your phone number) will ring on your watch when not connected through Bluetooth (by being forwarded to your watch #). This is simply call forwarding and all you need is a watch plan that allows voice; no data plan required. You would normally use this when you want to leave the phone at home and receive calls on your watch while you're out, etc. The forwarding isnt automatic, you turn it on or off as required in Gear Manager.
2) If you have a plan that allows data (or have access to a wifi connection) then you will be able to receive texts and all notifications from your phone on your watch when connected remotely. You won't be able to receive calls in real time with only a data plan though, unless you also have a voice plan and forward calls as per #1 above. On the bright side, you will still get the missed call notification if your watch plan allows data, so while you can't answer the call you can always call them back right away. Data plans (or wifi) allow for the remote connection to your phone when out of bluetooth range. This remote connection is possible because without bluetooth, the phone and watch can only sync up through your Samsung account, which is why they need some sort of data connection. Once you've set everything up on your phone and watch, the remote connection will happen autonatically within 60 seconds of losing bluetooth connectivity.

Thanks for the clarification. I currently only have the Talk & Text plan so I will have to see how much data is used to push the information. I may have to get a data plan as well.

So to further ask questions about these things..
I just got the watch today and have been searching and trying to find tips on it...
If I am connected via bluetooth.. why does my watch not ring? I thought I could pretty much leave my phone in my pocket all day and do everything through the watch (receive calls and what not). I notice the "messages" app ONLY has messages in there sent from the watch itself. If I get a text message I can view it (not reply..) and it does not show up on the actual watch texts... ideas?

I just have a question. Lets assume we do have a phone with SIM-A and the Watch with SIM-B. They are connected via bluetooth and for a reason, bluetooth connection get lost. Theoretically, the calls from SIM-A should be diverted to SIM-B. Automatically. Correct?
Because, practically, I am trying this with the Galaxy S7 edge with two sims (SM-G935FD) and it is not working. I got only missed-call notification. The call is not diverted and the phone is still ringing. However, I can do it manually, which of course is not as advertised.
I just got my Gear S and I have couple of questions that I haven't been able to discover an answer for. Is it possible to rotate the screen to landscape mode? I haven't found a way to do if there is. Also what would be needed to send/receive calls on it in stand alone mode?
It is not possible to rate the screen.
There is nothing else needed to make/receive calls in stand alone as long as you have the watch activated with a carrier plan. It will have its own phone number. However, if it is connected to your phone via Bluetooth, the cell radio on the watch is disable by default to save battery.
Also, make sure you bought the correct version of Gear S for use. As a dual band phone, Gear S is not a global phone. Specifically, North American market and rest of the world do not match in frequency bands. So, if you bought a non-NA Gear S, it won't work in NA and vice versa.
Thanks for the info. It is an ATT gear s which is the service that I have. I realized that I asked the first question incorrectly. I was wondering about rotating the screen when viewing video or photos. I found a video play that will rotate it for you.
Also to go full solo mode your phone needs to be shut off. If it is on, then the watch will connect through the cell network from your phone and you will still get calls from your phone's number on the watch. If the phone is off the network, or turned off, then your watch's number will be the active one.

No you don't have to. As long as you are not connected via Bluetooth to your phone, your watch can receive phone calls from both numbers. In fact, if auto-forwarding is turned on, you will still receive phone calls from your phone's number even if the phone is turned off that is because the forwarding is done at carrier network level, not on your phone.
With Bluetooth turned on, the default behavior is turn off the cell radio on the watch to save battery. But you can still turn it on in the settings so that your watch can always receive calls to the watch's number at the cost of worse battery life.

This does not work this way for me in the U.S. and under AT&T. I have auto-forwarding on, but if the phone is off I do not get calls to the phone forwarded to the watch. With the phone off, the watch only gets calls to the watch number. It gets forwarded calls from the phone if bluetooth is off, but the phone has to still be turned on and on the network.
Here is an excerpt from the manual:
Connected Remotely
When connected remotely, the Gear S is not
connected to the smartphone via Bluetooth, but is
still connected to the smartphone via the mobile
network.
While connected remotely, the Gear S can
receive notifications and calls from the
smartphone, calls and SMS messages to the
Gear S phone number, and have limited access
to Samsung Gear app functions. Calls which
are placed will be dialed from the Gear phone
number.
Gear Only
In Gear Only mode, the Gear S is not connected
to the smartphone, and is operating as an
independent device.
While in Gear Only mode, the Gear S will only
send and receive SMS messages and calls to the
Gear S phone number, and will have no access
to Samsung Gear app functions.
Maybe I should be more specific. You can turn off the phone after your watch confirms forwarding is on. This is because your phone is the only device that can turn on the forwarding. But once it is turned on, the phone itself don't have to be on.
You can rotate your Samsung Gear S. With a quick update however, they've added a new option that lets you change the orientation to vertical instead — making things much easier to read. Of course if you like the horizontal layout better, that option is still there as well.

Hey please could anybody please confirm whether can I flash the Italy firmware over my Indian Gear S. Since my country firmware is not updated to 2.2.1.4. Some people even says that the new firmware provides reply options what's app and few themes and clock faces. Please somebody reply.

Hey everybody,
Does anyone know how to disable annoying popup messages related to Mobil Data while connected to WIFI? Here's the background; I used to be with Verizon and was one of the treasured unlimited data participants until they recently decided to once again screw their most loyal customers with increases on costs. I left VZW and went to Straight Talk utilizing the 4G LTE Verizon network. Before under VZW, I don't remember my wife's phone showing a message that she could not browse the internet, send email, etc, unless connected to data with the exception of using WIFI. Well since switching over to ST, I've created Tasker Profiles which simulate Juice Defender and turn off mobile data as soon as it is connected to our home WIFI. About every two minutes it popups a messages saying the following:

Mobile data
Message Content:
Unless you use WI-FI, you will no linger be able to use the Internet, Email or other apps that require a data connection.
Turn off the mobile data connection?
I've attached a screenshot of the message.
How can I disable to popup? I'm sure there's a way to do if someone can point me in the right direction.... Thanks
I should also clarify that the popup returns regardless if you select Okay or Cancel. I even enable Data and still returns.
I found this thread which apparently the issue seems to be related to apps that turn off data or turn it on using automation.
