I finally got the progress bar to recompile correctly. So here this is:
CWM Update Zips
View attachment BrowserClean.zip
View attachment BrowserCleanChromeIcon.zip (Chrome Icon)
Changes
-Default Home switched to google
-Removed all default bookmarks
-Added Google as a default Bookmark
-Google Keyword Redirects (No vzw/bing)
-Appearance of Fascinate Browser (No grey URL bar, No cyan/black bar below Title Bar during loading)
-removed some really random strings/pngs for CNN and Facebook.
Install:
-Install Via CWM. (Added script to delete browser.odex)
or
-Place apk into /system/app/, if the browser.odex is still there, delete it, and reboot.
Additional
-To get rid of the hard coded bookmarks, you may need to clear the browser cache. This will delete any bookmarks you have.
Thanks adrynalyne for the initial CWM update.zip

Browser Icon is now a Google Chrome Icon which is a very nice touch. The downside for me is that the annoying bookmarks are still on my system (myvzw, etc). Everything else seems to be working as expected for a 2.1 browser (did I mention I miss real flash a lot more than I thought I would?)

Simply amazing. That stupid cyan bar thing from the Mezmerize Browser.apk was really starting to get to me.

1.) Ooops. I had changed the Icon as a personal touch. I intended to upload one with the original icon. And will if anyone asks.
2.) You should be able to get rid of the vzw icons if you clear browser cache. Only thing is, if you had any other bookmarks, you'll have to set them again.
installed browser2.zip via cwm
-redirects to vzw/bing
-remove/rename browser.odex in system/app/ results in browser opening in blank white screen, then fc
What am I missing?
-Try rebooting after renaming/removing the browser.odex.
-If that fails wipe data-dalvik cache
Thanks, reboot did the trick. What exactly does wiping the data-dalvik cache do?
Also, I was sort of hoping it would restore voice search by google to the long press search button. There's a way to do this, isn't there?
How can I change the browser icon back to stock? Hate the Chrome icon.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, that was an unintentional part of the release.
you can replace the res/drawable_hdpi/ic_browser_laucher.png in the apk. (not sure on the exact path, but that should be real close)
I'll put another one out after i finish with backups on my phone.
Beauty. Nice option for those of us using the backhole ROM.

1.) The reason I would have had you wiping dalvik-cache was to let your system re-associate what *.odex it has on. I'm not too familiar with this level of programming so I can't tell you much more.
2.) I can't find a thread for that right now. But there is an enhanced google search apk floating around. You'll need to install that along with removing the bing/microsoft apk
CWM install script for BrowserClean.zip didn't work so I had to manually install but it's working fine. Thanks for your work!
Flipsoul,
Damn, I've been working on the same exact thing lol! You beat me to it.. Good job and thanks for providing the community with this.

kind of mix and match and trial and error
I came from X10 and there's a guide on mixing the roms (it's buried deep in XDA but you can still find it at Modaco I think)
It's important to have a well working rom (in this case CM7) to base on
Need to get it boot up and read the logcat and change from there
Going to try this soon just wondering one thing does changing dpi fix icon sizes and/or does zeam launcher have an option to disable app drawer so its similar to miui launcher?
Wiped and installed it twice to be sure. I don't even get to a boot animation.
It just dies.
It's looking good so far. status bar is across the top too. Looks like it's a bit short on the left hand side cos there's a little square black box there right now. Will install screenshot app to take pic

I have not tried various dpi yet.
I don't think you can disable app drawer in Zeam. But if you drag everything out or set app drawer background to transparent then it's quite similar to miui launcher.

Thanks, for a while I thought my zip is bad from previous post.
I notice the status bar issue too. May need to experiment with different dpi and see.
Just installed, looks great! I did go into a boot loop the first time I tried to install. I then wiped/installed and wiped again. Booted up quick and easy after that. Other than the status bar, haven't noticed too much quite yet but its only been 5 minutes. Will post again later.

More of an actual softkey row across the bottom like there is on ICS roms which don't have physical buttons. Make sense? Ill see if I can find something to show as an example.
Them soft keys. It'll shift the screen up slightly but it'd be decent.

yes the dpi does the trick
Stock Launcher Icons and Status Bar look much better now (but very big)
Use RootExplorer to edit the /system/build.prop as follows:
remove the following lines:
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density.xdpi=169.33333
ro.sf.lcd_density.ydpi=169.33333
add this line:
Code:
qemu.sf.lcd_density=240
save and set permission to 644 (all read, top write)
Edit: you need also to replace the keyboard file or it appears super big. here is the LatinIME.apk taken from Nook Color rom. Copy it to /system/app folder and set permission to 644
then reboot
Problem

This will hopefully fix the FCs in anyone running Stock w/ Goodies 3.44 (it should work for all versions of SWG no promises lol!) . All credit to one_love_420 and Timberwolf671 for the smali edits. I just ported this and recompiled this with SWG 3.44 services.jar. I also disabled sig checking in PackageManagerService. Again thank you to one_love_420 for the how to on that.
If you wish to revert simply flash the stock SWG services.jar zip I posted. Feedback is welcome.
Note flex will return on 4/29/13 and hopefully SWG will return as well!
Update: I added the stock services.jar for those who wish to revert without flashing the entire ROM again.
To install:
(1) Wipe cache/dalvik cache.
(2) Flash Patcher_for_FC_in_SWG_344.zip in TWRP.

When exactly do the force closings show up? I'm curious if I've run into it yet. Last night I was having problems when clicking on URLs inside of other apps (Facebook, Twicca, Gmail) and some of them would force close instead of opening the link. I flashed the ROM again to fix it though, thinking I had screwed something up on my own or deleted a system app in Titanium Backup that I shouldn't have.

U will get random f/c's and I mean random. when u are surfing using either browser with 3 or more pages. Sometimes when exiting from EQS or settings. Every person will have it at different times. If u have no HTC widgets on any of the home screens it usually does not occur. Or using a non-sense launcher like Nova or Apex.

I have random fc as you mentioned. While I'm not on SWG, my ROM is very similar. You zip works on my ROM, except that I lose the APM option from homescreen settings. I'm using the Rosie.apk from OMJ's mod pack.

I wouldn't recommend using this on another ROM unless you know exactly how to compare the smali files to see what was changed and then recompile the services.jar like I did. Simply flashing this over any other rom or mod pack will break things.
I can compare files, but I was hoping to not have to spend the time figuring out which smalis the edits are in when it's already been figured out.
So, the fix/edits or at least what smali files are changed aren't posted anywhere for others to use in their own files.

That's what I'm talking about. Thank you very much!
Edit 2: Various replies below are currently offering up to a $50 bounty for a fully functioning CM MMS.apk for SGS4 TW
EDIT: This will work for regular SMS, but crash for all send/receive MMS. Recommended to wait until MMS will work properly.
<Insert typical disclaimer here about possibility of messing up your phone. You assume all liability/risks.>
Attached is the MMS.apk from the latest CM10.1 nightly. It includes things like emoji, notification quick reply, notification mark as read, custom vibration settings, and pop-up SMS.
I am successfully running this on my stock, rooted, AT&T SGS4.
1) Root SGS4.
2) Use an app like Root Explorer or a simple 'adb push MMS.apk /system/app' to get the MMS.apk onto your phone.
3) Drop MMS.apk into /system/app
4) Reboot. On reboot it will REPLACE SecMms, the Samsung one with hover view. However, since the Samsung one uses a different file name, if you simply remove MMS.apk from /system/app you can revert back (as SecMms still exists)
5) Profit
Extras: Yes, it can still be used with Multi-window. No, hover view does not work. Yes, you can also just run the apk and install it, but I always feel safer dropping them in myself.
I was so excited. It installed and appeared to work great but it crashes when sending MMS. This really is the single think I want more than any other is a stock SMS replacement.

You probably have two lock screen pages because you added two, this nor the other sms apk would add another page with a clock on it.
Go to your lock screen and swipe across the clock to the left until you see the plus button then hit it. Add a random widget.
You'll now be at a zoomed out state of all the pages of lockscreen widgets you have.
Drag any page up to the top until it turns red to remove it.
As far as quick reply i don't think so edit, i think thats just how it is. The default app notifies you of a new message on the lock screen and you click it then swipe to unlock and thats just how touchwiz works, you'll also notice no quick reply from the notification bar using the samsung sms app.
Using this apk you should be able to quick reply from the notification bar meaning if you just have swipe to unlock and no pattern or pin or anything you can pull down the notification bar from the lockscreen and hit the reply button there and that should work.
I uninstalled Mms.apk and went back to original Samsung messaging and that extra page disappeared. First pic is a my lockscreen looks with Samsung app. Second one is pic of lockscreen with custom mms.apk installed and with the original lockscreen being a second page. Ideally I want the Samsung lockscreen because it shows active alarms.
I am able to drag the Samsung screen to remove but it still shows after. I can't drag the other screen nor can I make the Samsung page my default page when I turn on the phone
I also disabled multiple widgets.

Has anyone else had any issues with Dolphin? I tried using it to fill out my Sony registration and it absolutely went haywire.
It started out freezing and then it would unfreeze and move very glitchily for 5 seconds. Then finally the screen would go completely haywire and show nothing but white and light gray lines. It only affected the app itself, the actual nav bar was fine just the app screen was wonky as hell.
Has anyone else experienced this? I have tried clearing all app data, not that there was any cause that was the first time I opened it, and I uninstalled and reinstalled it. Nothing I did made it work.

Adobe Flash Player was re-enabled in Dolphin Browser version 10.0.0, so I recommend you update. After updating, go into Dolphin's Settings > Web Content and set Flash Player to "Always On" (my preference) or "On Demand". I also recommend you have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (currently 11.1.115.69) installed. You can download it from Adobe's Archived Flash Player Versions web page. Search for the list titled "Flash Player for Android 4.0 archives" to find and download it to your device and install it. You can ignore that it says "for Android 4.0", it will also run on Android 4.1.x. You can test that Flash Player is working in Dolphin by going to Adobe's Find Version web page.
I have both Dolphin and Dolphin Beta in latest version, it is the best browser that I can use on my TXZ/XZ. I like mozilla but I can't use FF or FF Beta on my devices, always crash and can't load a page, it's stuck loading and nothing happens!
I believe the v.10 looks nice but... I still prefer to use 8.5.1... more stable than 10 to me. At least when watching South Park during commercials it freezes. V10 is not a good product.

check out Mikan Broswer from Cythia Project.
a browser that allow you to do a lot of customization.
i tried stock broswer, chrome, dolphin, dolphin HD, firefox, and many other browser and Mikan gives me the best user experience.
although you might need to setup all the short-cuts and buttons yourself in the beginning.
some features i liked (needed).
1. open offline "html" files
2. decided URL bar to shown at top or bottom, and add buttons on this bar
3. decided tab bar to shown at top or bottom, and add buttons on this bar
4. set font size of the browser UI, make it finger friendly, or even big thumb friendly
5. open URL directly using quick control.
6. add short-cut to other apps in browser (save click needed to move from browser-home-apps)
7. change web-site text size on the go.
8. invert rending - (avoiding the glare of a while background)

check out Mikan Broswer from Cythia Project.
a browser that allow you to do a lot of customization.
i tried stock broswer, chrome, dolphin, dolphin HD, firefox, and many other browser and Mikan gives me the best user experience.
although you might need to setup all the short-cuts and buttons yourself in the beginning.
some features i liked (needed).
1. open offline "html" files
2. decided URL bar to shown at top or bottom, and add buttons on this bar
3. decided tab bar to shown at top or bottom, and add buttons on this bar
4. set font size of the browser UI, make it finger friendly, or even big thumb friendly
5. open URL directly using quick control.
6. add short-cut to other apps in browser (save click needed to move from browser-home-apps)
7. change web-site text size on the go.
8. invert rending - (avoiding the glare of a while background)
let me know your comment if you decided to try this out.

I believe the v.10 looks nice but... I still prefer to use 8.5.1... more stable than 10 to me. At least when watching South Park during commercials it freezes. V10 is not a good product.

I'm with you there with 8.5.1 looking better, it also didn't have a damn Hot Apps icon.
Either way I tried 10.0.0, 10.0.1, and 8.5.1 and they all acted the same way. I really hate this. Dolphin is my preferred browser mainly because of how the tabs work, it has added Flash back, there are plugins (although I would like a browser with quite a few more plugins), the speed dial (because the icons are small, those big ass shortcut like FF has icons drive me insane), being able to have categories in Bookmarks, and a few other odds and ends. I haven't found one that really fits yet, I can do without plugins but the others are a must have for me.

Previously I was running Cyanogenmod with what I guess is original Google dialer.
Is there a way, how to install it, or aftermarket, which is as close to it as possible, without root?

Customize Dialer?
Is there a way (preferably without root) to modify/customize the "in call" screen on the Galaxy S5. I am not talking about the Dialer App itself but the screen that comes up once you place the call. I want to be able to move the "end call" button from the top right spot to the top middle spot to make it easier to reach with either hand.

You cant do it without root cause it needs to modify system apps.
If rooted it is possible. I themed mine like this which will be available in alliance roms next update

Hello,
I read this today somewhere and this is exactly what you meant. I get my S5 tomorrow so I have notbeen able to test it yet, but it should work on any kitkat device.

I got the Google dialer working on my S5... You need root and if you want to make any dialer fully 100% with out any use of the stock one, you need to do a lot more then just have the app in the priv-app folder. Once I've worked a few bugs out, I was going to either package it as a zip, or give it to a rom development or two to use as an add-mod to their rom(s).

Wondering if you can share the steps you followed to get GOOGLE DIALER working on the S5 ? I tried to install by putting in Piv Ap, changing permissions and rebooting - and no luck - it FC's when i try to launch it every time.
If you can share the steps you took to get it working - even if I have keep my original phone ap for taking calls and GOOGLE DIALER for making calls - that would still be cool -
If you think it is too complex and difficult, I understand - but if you can share what you did - that would be very cool -
thanks

I had to copy so files to the lib folder... That was a couple of weeks ago and am trying to reproduce it.
I got the files from a Nexus 5 ROM.

Well.... So far:
The good
• App will open with no crashes or force closes
• Search will search your accounts for contacts and Google for people / businesses.
• You can place a call
The bad
• Samsung app is still used during a call.
• Samsung app is still used to receive a call.
• No contacts button
The Ugly
• Removing Samsung's in call app will still allow your calls to connect, but you get no GUI so you can't hang up.
• Removing Samsung's phone app (not being used anymore) will cause zero signal and two com.phone error popups on boot.
• Google Contacts FC when opening
Bonus: info on other Google/AOSP apps
The Google and AOSP SMS/MMS app can be used and fully replace the Samsung one. Why is this good news? Because those apps have the quick reply (popup when you get a message) Kind of like the iPhone but much better :victory: I have a few different themed versions and get some more and will do a post with the info (and credit where credit due) tomorrow.
The AOSP browser likes to FC
Other working apps: Calculator, Clock, Email (even exchange bypassed), File manager, torch, gallery, pretty much everything else besides phone and contacts... I'll add them to the same post as the messaging app tomorrow. (Will be flashable zips)
On good news... Once the CyanogenMod ROM is finished for S5, it will be MUCH easier for me to get the dialer and contacts working fully 100% on Samsung's touchwiz framework.... I had them working flawlessly on my S4 before I busted the LCD... Nothing beats touchwize framework with Google/AOSP apps and style

I dont usually use aosp apps but to let you know stock mms does have an option to enable pop up messages and includes a quick reply too.
For phone it does use both secteleservice (secphone) and incallui for the phone features. That is why deleting the teleservice resulted in no signal because that app basically does the phone signal and pre call functions while the incallui controls all incall functions. So you would need an app and probably libs to replace both.

Any chance you can share that black Seccontact apk. Looks Great. I've been trying to theme it myself without much luck.

And where would the setting be for the popup with quick reply?
If you're thinking the quick response snippets, that's not the same thing. And looking at the settings for the stock MMS app (see attached screenshots) there is no pop-up setting or anything close to what the aosp/Google MMS app has
