My touchscreen started to become unresponsive i stalled the new c0okies hometab 2.0 beta about a week ago, 3 days ago thats when my touchscreen started failing , at first i though it was something normal it freeze up for a moment, i lock the phone with the "off" button and unlock it back again it will work. But it became more and more often, until yesterday which it just did not respond i restart it like 6 7 times still not respond :S it came back when it want it, today i did a hard reset and still does the same thing i really dont know what to do anymore, has this ever happened to someone ? any advice ? i need help please !
Call HTC's and let them know what is going on with your phone. If it is still under warranty they will fix it for no cost. This happend to me last week and I called them, sent my phone and they fixed it. The only thing i had to pay for was the shipping. I never bothered to put the stock rom back on it. I just sent it in like that

well i'm screwed l0l
Dude I bought my phone from some guy from craigslist and i still sent it anyways. just tell them the touchscreen is unresponsive. Just call them and send it in. If it is out of warranty they will charge you anywhere from $50-170. Most likely its still within manufacturer warranty. It doesn't hurt to call them. I sent my phone on wednesday and i should have it back by tuesday.

I bought my GF an HD2 from flebay, brand new, you know the type of ad "unwanted upgrade".
OK OK I know
It hasn't been blocked so the account is still running OK (seller didn't like the HD2 wanted cash to run an iPhone on the account)
Problem is, after 9months the HD2 has started overheating and rebooting when using data or GPS.
If My Location tries to update it reboots, sometimes goes into a continuous reboot loop, only taking the battery out will stop it.
It gets very warm around where the sim card is when this happens.
We've tried a hard reset, no different
Question: Will HTC honour the guarantee (less than 9mnths old) when I'm not the original owner or should I send it to a repair centre and cough up (I guess it needs a new Mboard )
Has anyone been in this situation?
Have I now got an unsaleable brick?
Thanks
I doubt it, have you tried the latest stock rom? that might change the way it runs
Or a not stock rom and radio from this site?

Hi, thanks but I'm pretty sure it's a hardware fault

Yep, and cleaned the battery terminals, tried a different battery (out of my HD2).
The phone works OK if we cool it down by leaving it in a cold room for a couple of hours, but then as soon as it gets some hard usage, long phone call, data, GPS it starts to heat up and reboot again.
It just occurred to me we haven't tried a different sim in it, might try that and see if it's any different!
EDIT: GF hasn't used the phone for about a week now, now it won't get past the white HTC boot screen, just continuously looping.
yes they will honour it , i was in exact same situation and they told me it was 100% covered by the warranty , although the blanket email said to include proof of purchase customer service told me not to worry about it . had it back within 5 working days.
definitely sounds like the motherboard. Same problem with mine. T-mobile bought me a new phone.
I think the warranty date period is based off of the imei and when the phone was shipped out. I would call htc and ask. Couldn't hurt
Thanks for the replies, I suppose it's worth a try.
I'll let you know how I get on with HTC
Fixed
Update:
We sent our HD2 back for repair, HTC picked it up and returned it no charge.
Motherboard replaced.
Fault described on the repair document as "MB Current leakage, battery overheat, MB replace."
Totally excellent service.
Thanks HTC we love you
My Atrix 4g was working fine and then I set it off the the side while I worked on some homework and when I came back and tried to unlock it, nothing happened, the screen remained black although I could flick the volume up and down switch and get a vibration and a sound, it seemed to me like the device was still on and working just the screen was black. I pulled the battery and when I put it back the phone refused to boot and showed a red LED. I waited 5 min and pulled the battery again and this time the phone booted up perfectly and is still working right now, is this something I should be worried about? Should I bring it back to the store for an exchange?
Definitely bring it back for an exchange

Do you happen to know the exchange policy at AT&T? I have no warranty, but I've only had it for a week or so.
Also how do you know its just not a small software glitch or something that is insignificant and was a one time thing? Or do you think I should bring it back just in case.

If you bought it from AT&T then you have 30 days to return/exchange it. Tell them there is a software issue where it forces your phone to turn off. To be safe, you could call their corporate customer service at "611" and tell them the situation and they will note your account about the situation that way the reps in the store cannot turn you away.

What if I bought it from RadioShack though? They had a sale where it was only $150.. xD
Btw mine is rooted and everything, how do they check for root anyways? And in order for me to exchange it I'm guessing I have to factory reset, would that undo the root?

Radioshack should have a similar policy. You should be able to check it online.
No, a restore will NOT remove root. Which root method did you use? I believe SOC and aRoot both have unroot options. I had to return my first Atrix as well and I used Root Explorer to uninstall SU before I ran the unroot script to make sure it would be removed.
I returned my bricked atrix to radio crap and they swapped no problem

I used aRoot, out of curiosity what was wrong with your first Atrix?
I did a quick google and no one seemed to have experienced the problem that I had with the blank screen, although there seem to be no other issues and its snappy as usual. If I decided just to keep this Atrix and not go through the hassle of returning and then downloading everything and setting my theme back up and a million other personalization things I did, do you think I would regret it later?
Oh and do you think it would have anything to do with the fact I dropped my phone? I was just chilling in class and it fell out of my pocket. Lol it was like a 2 foot drop onto tile face first, although there are no visible damages aside from a scratch in the corner thats minuscule and took me like 5 min to find.
Also, the issue didn't occur until like a couple hours after I dropped it.

I brought mine back because of software issues like the battery monitor displaying the phone as charging even though it was unplugged, screen brightness was changing even though I had the auto turned off, little things that I haven't experienced on my second phone.
With yours, if you feel comfortable enough to hold onto it for awhile longer I don't see any harm in that. Radioshack gives you 30 days. There have been random reboot issues on some of the Atrix's so it might not be anything serious. I've had a couple issues with the screen freezing on me, which what could have happened on yours.

Well mine didn't randomly reboot, and the screen didn't freeze, it just blanked for awhile, I don't think its serious enough to constitute my phone as a "lemon". I'll probably end up holding on to it and seeing if anything else happens and if not then just keep it. Thanks for all the help though! :]
And if anyone else has experienced this issue or something similar, it would be awesome if you could share your experience.
Not gunna go into much detail here. I'm sure most people have heard o the motherboard bug which causes the sony ericsson to over heat and reboot as soon as it is turned on and things like that. This problem only started for me when I updated to 2.1. Would downgrading to 1.6therefore stop the reboots because I never got even 1 before. Would changin the battery to a diferent one stop overheating o the battery. Maybe there is a battery specialized or this. Maybe a mugen battery would work? Help greatly appreciated. thanks in advance
I dont think so, i had the same problem and tried everything, last thing was getting the new one, and now i can do anything, and no reboot, i think u should go to SonyEricson and tell them about your problem, they will give you back your phone for about 3 times, then when your problem still persist they will give you a new device or they will change motherboard,
Good Luck (and sorry for bad english ^_^)
Out of Warranty Cant be bothered to explain why. Getting it repaired would cost a lot. CoulD I repair it myself?
your best bet it to use advanced task killer app
sent from my X10 using my wicked awesome premium xda app
I do use that app but 90 percent of the time I cant get my phone on long enough to even think about using it
have you tried reflashing the rom, via repair option on SEUS, or even Flashing a custom rom?
sent from my X10 using my wicked awesome premium xda app
yep didnt work
has anyone tried the downgrading or battery change method that can enlighten me as to wheether it will work or not. Or at least significantly reduce the reboots so I can actually use the phone

Yes i think some thing inside the rom could help. One of my friend have X10 with mainboard bug like u. But as i sure in xrecovery it never reboot even you flash a rom sooooo....it should be something inside the room or kernel
sorry i dont really understand what you want me to do :S ????
just downgraded to 1.6. Still rebooting but not as much. Not every minute anymore. It like every few minutes. Im at a loss here there must be something I can do. Warranty and paying to change the motherboard is not an option
I had the same problem, tried everything but my phone only worked when I was using it in cold places, or in front of a fan. The problem started to become worse gradually, it started playing games, then in a few minutes of light use... and then every minute. Had to flash to stock rom in front of a fan to use the warranty.
You cannot do much, unless you use the warranty you'll stand with a dead phone for now.
Isnt there a way I could like open up my phone and do something to it to make it work? There must be something out there that will work.
what if i put the phone and battery in the freezer for a day or a few. maybe it could at least stop the overheating for at leastt a few days? i wouldnt mind doing this every few days

It will work for a few minutes, once your start to use the phone, the battery will start to heat, and then it will reboot once it reach its threeshold.
I highly suggest you to try to repair it in any sony center, or at least check the price to fix it. As far as I know, you can't do anything to at least remedy it. You won't be able to use your phone well. I experienced it and tried everything it came to my mind to at least use the phone well for a few days before I gave up and sent it to the repair center.
Out of warranty and would be like 100 quid to get motherboard replaced. (sorry about caps lock) there must be something that no one has thought of
Of there is of course a problem with asking for solutions that no one has thought of....
Sorry for the cheap shot. I do have sympathy as I have the same issue, although to a much lesser extent. Got a new battery and it made no difference. Went into a phone shop today and had a chat. Although I was not 100% convinced about the guy in there he showed me another X10 that smelled the same as mine and he said it did reboot. Anyway for £15 he says he can reflash the stock ROM using a special box. He seemed convinced it was software related so I may give it a go. It is very strange that I can put the phone into xRecovery when the phone is rebooting and it is stable.
However I think your best bet is to sell your phone and get another. Not sure how much a spares/repairs X10 goes for but I can recommend the ZTE Blade as a good, cheap Android phone with a strong support over a MoDaCo. If you do this you should not be to much out of pocket.
dont really want a different phone. Lilke I said there must be something that someone knows :S
if theres no solution anyone knows, does anyone know where I can buy an xperia 10 PCB so I can dissassemble my phone and change the PCBs myself
Get insurance and lose the phone.
I just got back from the service center, my S3 shut off and not turned on. They replaced the motherboard and told me that this happened a lot with other s3 too, maybe that's why they could fix it right away. I'm using stock ROM ,also.
Anyone here on XDA got their S3 to brick itself? What do you think caused this?
Yep, mine did the same a few weeks ago, quite a few others here have had that issue too. I think in all cases the motherboard was replaced.
Edit: no idea as to what caused it. I've always (well since my first mobile in 1998) left my phones to charge overnight and did the same with the S3 when i got it 4 months ago, however I no longer do that now that it's back with a shiny new motherboard *just in case* that had something to do with it committing suicide. There's no reason why that should cause it to die but...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
That's very strange, but considering the amount of S3s sold, I suppose a few will go wrong.
Would be interested to know what causes it, whether it's hardware or software related.

In so huge production rate, I'd be surprised if such would NOT happened.
for me, as for now, 2 of 2 works perfectly... fingers crossed, never say never.
For me, what is good from OP's story: it can happen, but samsung reacts appropriately.
i can also confirm that this has happened.
I & others (on this forum) have rooted our phones (and even people running stock OS). After a while (mine was 2weeks from getting it from the store) nothing would fix it. I couldn't even get into recovery mode.
Replaced PBX (mobo) and your good
Dont worry about it, happens to everyone.
edit: should also mention that the replacement via warranty didnt cost a thing.
it just happened to me, and i have no idea about where to take it in San antonio tx, I´m from mexico so no clue
My V10 went into a bootloop back in November and I was fortunate enough to get it replaced days before the 1 warranty expired. Yesterday, my wife's V10 also suffered the same failure. Unfortunately, no insurance and Verizon still insists that they don't know anything about the hardware fault that's causing these phones to bootloop. I can cough up my failure to just bad luck, but both phones failing for the same thing has nothing to do with luck.
If anyone knows of a class action suit being filed against LG, I would be interested in signing up.
Last LG product I'll ever purchase.
lawsuit
I'd be surprised if there wasn't one. The same thing happened to my G4.
I'm pretty sure there is one...Google it
I've seen the articles of an active lawsuit against them, but there's no information on how to join. Usually, the attorneys will get companies to release the information of customers who may have been affected so that they can be contacted to join or opt out. Either way, I will send them an email and see if I get a response..
My phone just got the bootloop yesterday and I was able to get Verizon to agree to send a replacement for me even though I am well out of warranty. The person I spoke with on chat said she researched it and said it was a known issue so they could cover it. So my replacement phone comes tomorrow. Now I am just trying to get it to boot long enough for me to back up whatever I can.

You faired far better than me. They told me they didn't know anything about the issue (however they knew about it back in November when my phone died a few days before it's one year anniversary) when I called about my wife's phone suffering the same fate.
I did call LG and they are definitely aware of the issue as they extended the warranty of the phone by an additional 6 months.
Verizon should still address this issue with its customers rather than brush it off as just another defective device out if warranty.
I think there is one right now.. Not sure how to find it.. I notice most of the people experiencing bootloop ignored fixing the overheating, which almost all of them do out the box.. Mine did and I stopped the overheating right away simply by enabling developer option and turning off all window animations.. Don't know what that is but since them my v10 stays cold to the touch for basic daily use.. Even when watching videos.. I haven't tried gaming but I plan to.. You might want to do it to the one you just fixed.. By default it's on " x1."

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. My wife isn't a very heavy user, so don't know how the phone overheated that much to cause the hardware issue.
Received notification that LG repaired the phone by replacing the main board. They determined the fault to be "phone not charging". What a crock of ****. That was not even a problem.
Meanwhile, I'm 2 days in still waiting for a response to my email from the firm that is already suing them.

I bought my V10 day 1 (10/30/'15) and it bootlooped like a week ago. Sent it in and just got the email saying it wasn't charging through the port. Right... 20 months in and they're still replacing boards "under warranty" though so I'm not mad lol

Nice to know it wasn't just me they used that excuse with, guess they don't want the real reason of shoddy hardware being a liability in court.
My V10 replacement from Nov 2016 now exhibits WiFi disconnection issues. Wife's V10 has no such problems. Hopefully I can get to November before the phone totally faults out again.
I was looking forward to the Pixel 2 but I heard it's going to be a LG manufactured phone. Ugh, that's sad news as I won't even consider it.
Agreed, I definitely won't be one of the early buyers for a pixel 2. Bought a Note 4 off ebay, gonna roll with that and my newly repaired V10 as a backup until one of these manufacturers makes a modern phone with all the features I want. V20 would've been it but I'm not about to have one of those bootloop on me as well.. See what the V30 brings I guess
Just a little update from getting my main board replaced. Got it back yesterday after missing FedEx the day before and the sim no longer worked, but they left my glass screen protector on which I wasn't expecting. It had been updated from 25A (I was holding out for mm root..) to 28A. Everything seems to work but it is no longer going to be my dd. If something happens to my note I'll activate it but it's on zerolemon-mp3 player duty for now. Still love the idea of the V10...
Thanks for the update. They had removed the screen protector on my phone when I got it back. But so far phone is running ok. It did shut down on its own from getting too hot a couple of days ago. I was taking pictures and leaving the photo camera on when it did it.
