I updated my 10a and got everything working. Edge and hsdpa work flawlessly but just noticed that if there is no hsdpa available, i only get edge, no 3G. I read that others had same issue but how can be possible to have H but not 3G? And in any case, is there a way to solve the problem and have 3G working?
Cheers
I already updated my x10a but it changes to x10i... and i dont have 3g or hdspa... what is the firmware that do you use?
I used e10a FW.....and i guess you used the same.
BTW: maybe you don't have hsdpa because you don't have coverage.....do you have EDGE?
yes, i have edge, but how i can confirm if i have hdspa??, anyway... in the phone information it's appear lika e10i.... i used the the firmware posted by bin4ary with the flashtool....
hsdpa depends of area; now where i am there is no hsdpa so i've got only E.
I flashed same way as yours with bin4ry tool and FW.
then if I have HSDPA, I have no 3g?
Because before my xperia flash, it could use 3G.
Hsdpa is just a faster version of 3g. I think all that's changed is that 1.6 just always reported "3g" whereas now 2.1 tells you when it's getting "H" bandwidth
So, from slowest to fastest it's:
G: GPRS : ~40k/s
E: EDGE : ~200k/s
3G: UTMS : ~384k/s
H: HSDPA : Faster! ( meg/s depending on your network)
Anyways, if in your country you need to use american's 3g bands, then you cant connect to 3g with a e10i firmware. You will need to wait for a 2.1 e10a firm to recover 3g bands.
Im in the same situation
uhm.....as far as i have hsdpa i think i'll stuck on 10i; i'm able to make perfect calls with sip client even with edge so i guess i'm not going into reflash and reinstall all my apps....

I just got the phone and I cannot find the right radio to use in order to get 3g speeds:
. What is the best radio to use in order to get 3g and HSUPA speeds over 300 kbps/sec? I use to have this speed when I got my AT&T 8525 that is ancient now. How do I get the speed I use to have off the 8525 on this phone?
Thank you for your responses in advance.

Is your posted speed from the downlink test?

and the site u used to determine my speed i just found off google is a downlink site. and still my speed is slower than edge speeds.
Keep in mind the tower that is servicing your phone can have crap for bandwidth too.
I was near Gretna, VA on a trip and had full bars on 3g. I swear they had a dial-up modem on the other end of the tower though. Google maps were loading up slower than a typical edge connection.
In the end, it may not be your radio that's giving you trouble.

I tried it through out Atlanta today. Different towers and several areas of metro Atlanta. West Atlanta, North Atlanta, and East Atlanta.
Keep in mind my phone is the htc touch pro. I do not have the brand names from t-mobile or AT&T.
Should I try a different rom or is that a useless effort?

You may have a hardware limitation. I noticed on the various Rhodiums that were around and for sale, the unlocked Touch Pro 2's stated they were not ATT 3G compatible, although they were 3G compatible. Apparently there are different implementations of 3G.
You may want to look into whether that is something in the firmware associated with the radio (Radio ROM) or the hardware itself.
Sounds like sprint
If you have the SPRINT service or a SPRINT phone, you do not have the "3G" icon enabled. This is because SPRINT uses the EDGE network and not the 3G network. They say that their network now (REV A) is actually what they consider 3.5G and is supposed to be faster than regular 3G . I have no issues with my phone with the speed, however, if you want the 3G to display, find a custom task bar and that icon will change to the 3G. Once again, SPRINT does not display "3G"
Hope this helps.

If you have a standard Touch Pro (not Fuze or T-Mobile version), there's a very good chance you accidently picked up European version of it. European version will have European 3G, which is not compatible with US 3G frequency bands. Look into your documentation and see if you phone supports the following:
AT&T uses 850/1900
TMobile uses 1700/2100
European frequency bands are 1800/2100 if I remember correctly.
I have the Fuze and radio 1.14.25.35, and I get 396kB/s with only 2 bars...
Oh, and I'm in Connecticut.
lame!
something has got to be wrong man....i live hours away from 3G and if i even look at my phone wrong i lose reception!
BUT i got 281-392 Kbps!
Have you called your provider?

That could be true, but the documentation i have states:
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
the 850 and 1900 Mhz should not matter if its in europe or in usa, right???
but there is a new updates. i Used IE on the phone and my speed is incredible. i was able to test 3mb and it came back with speeds higher than fast 3g. just like my old phone. but under opera it would not go any faster than 40 kbs. i used another browser called skyfire. and i went to mobilespeedtest and got: . i went to cnet brandwidth test and got 3632.3 kbps. lol. amazing it looks like opera was my problem. hear are all of my results:
opera: (after testing using the other browsers now i get these results)
mobilespeedtest.com
cnet bandwidth test
.6745 mbps
IE:
mobilespeedtest
.408 mbps
Skyfire:
mobilespeedtest.com
cnet bandwidth test
3.2588 mbps
is it me ... or does your phone get warm when u use the net for a long time???
I doubt that the results are valid with a browser like Skyfire. It does all the rendering on the skyfire server instead of on your phone. It's probably reporting the rates in between the test site and the Skyfire server. Skyfire is fast, though; it's much faster at bringing up a full webpage than any other browser. You can open up espn.com in about 5 seconds.
I've always had good luck with my radio [see signature]
Hi; i have update to 2.1 but 3G now working now.
How can i resolve it?
you probably flashed your phone with e10i software when your phone is e10a...
or either that you dont have 3G turned on
I'm really confused about whether e10a can receive 3G or not with e10i flash. Some say yes..some say no and I really dont want edge only. It seems like it works for X10a with X10i flash.
I have e10a, i flashed with 2.1 for e10i, and obviously i lost 3g, because 3g bands are not the same. If you want 3g again u will need to downgrade to 1.6, if that's possible

Anyone have 2.1 e10a generic?

http://www.android-hilfe.de/motorola-milestone/25594-3g-vs-hsdpa-genauer-unterschied.html#post287462
2G = GPRS
2.5G = EDGE
3G = UMTS
3.5G = HSDPA/HSUPA
3G=7,2 Mbit/s <-> 3.5G=14,6 Mbit/s
is x10 faster since the 2.1 update ????
I'm using x10 mini android 2.1 now. How can I reinstall the 3G inside my phone? sorry for my bad english
2.1 is much better.
The only issue is that i lost 3G and would like to get it on again.....suggestions?
yeah same with me too..how to get my 3G back for my phone?
if you have a e10a you need to update with e10a firmware
mine is x10 mini and I already update to e10 firmware
3g
Apparently people with the e10a model who flashed with e10i rom have lost 3g ( big x10 doesnt have that problem), but some people report to have hsdpa.
Can anyone with an e10a with 2.1 (e10i rom) make a report on download speed?
A program that works well is tubemate as it connects to the fast servers of youtube and shows the download speed.
Regards
yes please. It would be much appreciated to have the connection speed of 2.1 here
Did e10a folks have HSDPA before 2.1?
I have never seen an H on my e10a with at&t in nyc(of course this could be crappy at&t).
Im still on 1.6 i was just wondering if I would suddenly start seeing H ability when if ever there is an e10a release of 2.1 (not willing to give up 3G for the e10i version)
If you don't want to lose 3g, wait until an e10a firmware is released. I'm currently stuck on edge until someone uploads a u20a fw.
I think (not sure, though) 1.6 only displays 3g even if you were on HSDPA.
I actually "lost"my 3G but got the H that i did never see before upgrading......so i really don't know what happened if it's just a matter of loosing 3G or just get report on hsdpa. H connection is quick but not always available so quite often i'm on E.
I can only get 'G', not 3G on my mini pro (u20i) since updating to 2.1
Anyone got any suggestion about this one?

I guess it is GPRS. Someone has posted the "letter list" in somewhere.
I am in the same boat. I only get GPRS with the u20i 2.1 UK Generic ROM.
I am using Vodafone...and in a heavy 3G area..never had a problem with it before the update.. and HSPDA is also on my towers..as i used to get it with my HERO and Desire.
I've read somewhere before that using X10i in Canada will screw something up with the 3g data connection? Is this true?
I haven't had much problems with 3G since the nordic 2.1 firmware i've been using when it came out. Everything is still fine with freex10 2.2.1 beta2 +hotfix.
The only thing is that 3G symbol at the top becomes an H from time to time. I also noticed the 3g data became a little slower than before; but i am not sure about this.

Rogers in Canada, like AT&T in the USA, use a different frequency to transmit their 3G network. X10i, the "i" stands for international. X10a, the "a" stands for America. You will be use either version on the EDGE (2G) network anywhere in the world as they are both quad band GSM phones. You can find more info HERE.
oh snap... is there a guide on how to go from freex10 2.2.1 beta2 to some version of x10a?
Nvm, got it.
Just flashed it with the original x10a 2.1 then redid everything again.

I have the same but it doesn't drop anything, in area's where there is H+ coverage it will show H+ otherwise it just shows 3G.
Maybe you want to enable 3G only on your device so it won't switch between all the time.

I have the same problem here in Argentina. It seems that one of our local operators does not support the 3G/HSDPA of this phone (maybe because it is from europe ? ). Did you try to use the browser and surf the internet? I doesn't work here. Strange, because for 3G we use the 850Mhz spectrum.
What I noticed is that the 3G/H icon at the top is constantly changing from 3G to H and viceversa, even if I stay in the same location...

Hi, I looked for this in all motorola forums but I couldn't find any real solution.
It seems the latest update to my home network (HSDPA to HSPA) is not well received by my phone. My battery is draining really fast since this upgrade.
Is there a way to enable ONLY HSDPA? I mean, HSPA is great for downloading and uploading, but battery life is really poor. I had very good battery life with HSDPA and I'd like to set my phone to this type of data connection.

Hey, thanks for your help. Well, I'm not suffering battery draining for any other reason. I don't want to use 2G networks only. Just want to change HSPA to HSDPA. That way, I'll go back to having the usual battery consumption.
Any other suggestion?
HSPA is a term that encompasses High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) - if your network was using HSDPA, it was an HSPA network.
Enhanced HSPA (HSPA+) is an enhancement to HSPA that enables download speeds of up to 21Mbps and beyond, up from the typical 7.2Mbps. The Atrix is a 14.4Mbps compatible HSPA+ device.
So you saying you don't want HSPA, but want HSDPA doesn't make any sense. Do you want to disable the increased upload speeds? (HSUPA) or the HSPA+ speed enhancements? (up to 14.4Mbps) I know Samsung have an option to disable certain parts of the network through a hidden network, no idea about the Atrix though.

Yes, I want to disable HSUPA (what makes it HSPA) since it's killing my battery. I found a lot of info on Samsung phones but I don't know how to do it in a Motorola mobile
Sorry to bother again. Any solution yet to prevent phone from going on HSPA and stay in HSDPA? Thanks in advance
Just for your information, I found some build.prop tweaks to set HSDPA only, but none of them worked. Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks

BUMP... Still trying to set phone to HSDPA only... Any thoughts?
it can be done, it took me three weeks to figure this out. we had a flood come through here about three weeks ago and it did something to just one antenna on the tower, i dont know what it did but it prevented anybody using a phone on hsupa from using their internet on their phone, i called att multiple times on the issue with no fixing of the tower that was transmitting a bad hsupa signal, the same antenna was transmitting a good "3g" signal or "hsdpa" both of my 4g phones would work anywhere else in the world except for at my house where the bad hsupa signal was. so i knew i had to find a way to downgrade to hsdpa to get my phones operational again, no help from att as to when or even if they would fix the towers. att thought i was crazy because i was the only one complaining about it because everyone on 3g was unaffected, probably only a handful of houses on this one antenna, att locks you out of your phone from being able to go to 3g or 2g, all automatic. 3 weeks of this crap then one day i remembered when the atrix first came out hsupa was locked out, remember all the scoff att got for that one, so here's what i did to shut off hsupa and get my phone back running again:
1. make sure your bootloader is unlocked - not sure if this will brick your phone if it isn't
2. download these radio packages http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V0LDOGFJ
3. flash the one radio that says att shipping radio or something like that through rsd lite (this is the original radio that shipped with the atrix) and don't worry its safe to flash if you are on gingerbread..
4. reboot your phone and you will be locked into 3g or hsdpa thus locking out hsupa
5. if you want to turn hsupa back on just flash the other file
this method worked great for me and got my phone working great again and no hsupa for me anymore until att gets the tower fixed which may be never since i'm probably the only one on this particular antenna with a hsupa phone.
all we need now is a nifty dev that can hack one of these radios to shut off automatic network selection for those of us that are stuck on it.

Hey pal, your method worked! After flashing the old radio, the phone is on HSDPA only and battery life is way better, back to Froyo times. I don't really care about the enhanced upload. Download speeds are as good as they were on HSPA.
