G-NetSpeed - speedtest for UMTS/GSM network - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

The application tests the UMTS/GSM network speed. It also shows the serving CELLID of the network. You can choose between several URL or input your own URL. It's better to put the URL of files >5MB. It allows greater speed to be achieved.
In version 2.0 several bugs are fixed and interface changed a bit

thx for the speedtest app!

thank you

hi. thanx for app.
one sugestion.
option to select kbps kBps mbit/ps and so on

Many tks. Good work !|!

Thank you

Now we can trully know how crappy our cell networks really are!!! YAY!!!
On another note... THANKS FOR THE APP MAN!!!

interesting
with my phone flat on a table i can take three readings which have no consistancy
one minute 64k then 588k then 339k one after another. The number of signal bars remains the same. Interesting?

Tried this on my HTC TP2 and it would not run properly. The app starts, but none of the on-screen buttons work, only the 'X' to close the app. Slowed down my phone even after closing and had to soft-reset.

nice
works tmous hd2 how accurate are the readings?
Thanks for you time

Varying speed
It all depends on network load at the moment. If there are many users downloading from the cell then the speed will be slower. Also it depends on radio conditions which vary even when the phone is not moved around. Also if you want to achieve greater speed use the microsoft or google files - 3 and 4 in the drop down list or input your own URL to such files. They are bigger and allow greater speed to be achieved. In the beginning of the download there is "slow start" where the speed is low and after few seconds maximum speed is achieved. But bear in mind that in radio the things are very dynamic and so is the download speed

Fix for the internet lag and internet is fast. Works for me but will it work for you?

So I was playing around and pissed because I could not sync one of my programs do to data packets dropping like mad on my phone. This is Windows Mobile 6.1 BTW. I went into with resco registry editior and changed HKLM\Comm\Tcpip\Parms and changed the TimerWheelSize to Value of 5 and soft reset via software reset. (Like Psshutxp) Now the phone is off the hook and netfront is super smokin' fast as well as my company programs syncs now. Give it a shot and let me know your results. Attached is a resco registry file to make it easy to import reg settings.
I also changed my dns settings to the following: (Super Low Latency)
4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2
If your data connection comes up and asks for username password, leave it blank and checkmark save password...

The fix for IE going so god aweful slow and other internet connect software on the titan running windows mobile 6.1
I'm trying this out right now, although I didn't find a place to stick the DNS settings.
I'll see how it goes, thanks
Edit: Seems faster!
dns settings are under the advance settings of your connection.
it's still lagging at some webpages how ever, i was able to download google maps without it stopping
Edit:
after going to a more than 2 webpages. yes it does seem to move a bit faster it still lags on a few webpages but on others that it was lagging on prior it's now flying
Will it work for the kaiser or Titan only?

I guess this isnt for the cellular internet? I don't see DNS settings under the Sprint network setup I have.
I am on Sprint and made the suggested changes. It still stalls for me when trying to download live search, but web pages do load faster.
A noticeable improvement for me loading pages!!! Thanks
I have changed the registry value to 5 but after a reset it changes back to default 11.

dalvares7 if you read carefully it is stated to do a software soft reset. Not a stylus soft reset. Use psshutxp to reset device after making reg changes.
The only question will be whether this setting will get lost during future soft resets via stylus... I havent tested it out yet but I will.
Anyone else know?

The settings do stick after future soft resets.
Are there any other ill effects to setting this??
actually went down for me
average speed before reg mod: 753
Average speed after reg mod : 654
Average speed after DNS mod : 587
I've only played around for about 30-45 minutes now... no ill effects noticed so far.
The difference in initial loadup, as well as subsequent loadup of pages is very obvious. Major improvement.
Also, I'm still running the 2.0.0 beta DCD ROM, which was mostly WM6.0 (not 6.1) core.
changed the Parm. settings to 5 and not the dns. It's been faster for me. Before the change was around 600k, but after the change it went up to 1300k.
Thanks for the settings, great job..
Holy crap!
It sped it up by almost double what I was getting before.
I have a question though...maybe some of you will know the answer...
When using PIE and running the mobile speed test on dslreports.com, even with this new reg edit, I only get speeds ranging from 500-600 every time.
I used Opera mini and ran the same tests and got between 1100-1600 every time. (Sometimes it would even tell me that it was too fast, EVEN when using the 1mb test)
What's up with that?
WOW , applied the "fix", tethered the phone with WMWifiRouter and i certainly see a big difference.
I attached a Speedtest from Speedtest.net (great site btw For PC's)
Befor i had half of the values being shown in my results. Talk about "Fix"
-If your wondering i'm using DCD's 2.2.6
With Radio 3.27

I am pretty sure Opera uses a proxy server that loads / processes the webpage there then resends it to your mobile device. So the speed you see when you use Opera is their conection to the test site.

[Q] Boost your WiMax 4G Speeds significantly

EVO 3D Softhack/FAQ
Boost your WiMax 4G Speeds significantly
Special Thanks to AX0R for this tip!
1. Run a SpeedTest (or 3) Prior to this hack.
2. With Root Access via ADB Shell, navigate to data/misc/wimax/
3. Find the file looking similar to "######.tree.xml"
4. Pull this file via ADB Pull AND SAVE IT!!!
5. Delete the file from the data/misc/wimax/ directory
6. Reboot your phone
5. Run a few SpeedTests again and compare your results.
To reverse this hack, simply push the file you pulled for backup back to the directory and reboot your phone.
Can someone make this simplified for me. (meaning, do a step by step guide). I think I can get to to ADB Shell, but don't know what it means or how to navigate to the next part.) Yes, I have two stickes against me guys, (1) I'm a girl (2) I'm a noob. And now I have a 3d evo and not afraid to use it. So help me out. Thanks in advance.
what kind of before and after speeds are you seeing?
if you have root explorer you can do it in that too, saves needing adb

I'm not sure if it was done properly but....he goes
adb pull data/misc/wimax [insert paste location, ie. C:\]
adb remount (not sure if this needed to be done)
adb shell rm -r /data/misc/wimax/[insert xml filename]
to put it back,
adb remount
adb push C:\Users\Kevin\Desktop\Fre3vo\XXXXXXXX.XML data/misc/wimax
I didn't see an increase in speed, however I have bad service in my house.
With speedtest, my highest was 987.2 kB/s DL 174.5 kB/s UL 95ms this was in the early morning, 6:20 am
I'm currently getting between 400- 900 kB/s DL and 70-120 kB/s UL with <100 ms after this tweak.
if you need more help with ADB
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517874
Slight increase with this tweak...see below: (in 4G)
Before:
Down: 7.43 Mbps Up: 1.38 Mbps
After:
Down: 7.68 Mbps Up: 1.38 Mbps
Tested 3 times from the same server on each before and after.
After running this hack, I tripled my single-stream download speed from 2MBps to 6MBps. But when I download anything large, I use 5 streams, and that speed did not change. So it increased speed according to speedtest, but my actual speed when I need a lot of bandwidth has not changed.
I get crummy 4G service at home, though. Zero to one bars. Never tried closer to tower, not sure where it is. Sprint actually doesn't know they have 4G service here, although I've had it for months.
well, try this.. go into your wimax setting and change speed from 10 10 10 to 5 5 5 ..
boosted the hell out of my speeds.. nearly doubled in low reception zone.

Where exactly are these setting found at. I'm always in low reception 4G.
Bandwidth
Go to phone app and ##3282#
Type in your MSL service code
Go to WiMax
Go to Bandwith currently set at 10,10,10 and highlight
Choose 5, 5, 5
Phone will retrieve settings. Hit menu when done to Commit Modifications.
Phone will reboot. This mod may or may not help depending on signal...
Using the OP method, here are my results. These are the average over 5 tests. 4G Signal strength was 1 bar.
Before Root - File Still Intact
133ms 2.82 DN 0.99 UP
After Root - File Deleted
122ms 3.47 DN 0.74 UP
After Reboot - No Root - File Deleted
121ms 4.01 DN 0.82 UP
After reboot - Rooted - File Deleted
114ms 5.72 DN 1.01 UP
So, after running 5 tests I can definitely say my speeds increased greatly. Thanks OP!!!
wow. gotta try this when my new phone arrives tomorrow and I get root
wow. I'm surprised, this really did help a lot, gave me consistent speeds and gave me a full strenth (excellent) signal (from a 'good' signal) inside my house. ~4300kbps/~1400kbps
edit: I didn't do the ADB steps, just the 5, 5, 5

And your biggest boost in speed was when you temp rooted which should not do anything to speed.
I work in El Segundo, CA and live in Fountain Valley, CA - I don't know why I bought a 4G phone because I barely get 1 bar in either of those locations...
Anyway using the 5,5,5 trick my speeds increased about 3x at work - from about 100 KB/s to 300-400 KB/s (depending on where I hold my phone). I'll have to try it at home because that's where I use the 4G the most...
I also use this 5 5 5 method with my MSL # and can definitely see a more consistent/stronger signal in my home always.
I just wish I knew how and why this works.
Anyway, Nice find..
Thanks

Whenever I try to pull the files, it says 0 were pulled. I tried going into the file with root explorer, but there was nothing in the data file.
Ouch! I went from

[Q] Data only to browser application on 3G

It wasn't easy for me, but I got CM7 on my Atrix. The goal was first to get around any throttling restrictions I've been experiencing, second to fix some bugs with the stock Moto rom regarding bluetooth and proximity sensor. On to my issue:
On wifi everything is perfect.
On 3G I can only use data on Browser or Opera and a select few other applications. I can't download apps via the market but I can find them. No speed on my speedtest app, but mobilespeedtest.com gives me 1.4Mbps download speed. This is coming from being throttled to about 150Kbps (little b) and I still have a week left on my plan cycle. So the throttle is fixed but different.
I also had the "mobile data limit exceeded" message that I was able to get rid of by changing the data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db as detailed in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253963
Before I changed that I was limited to 300Kbps flat on apps (Speedtest, FCC Speed Test), with Browser getting good speeds again at about 1.5Mbps. The "mobile data limit exceeded" message is gone now. I seem to think this all has something to do with the settings in the db above but I know better than to blindly start changing values.
Also of note, I restored my apps + data with Titanium Backup after I wiped, rooted, unlocked and put in CM7. I thought that some data from before may have affected things now. But I had slow (throttled, but it moved) data many reboots after restoring my apps + data.
I also butchered my APN settings in an attempt to get around the throttle monster to the point I had to restore all the default AT&T APNs to get things working mostly right.
I feel I've made a mess of things layering attempt on attempt to increase speeds. Does this problem make sense?
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.57-MB860-CM7-gf1d2072
CyanogenMod-7.2.0-RC0-Olympus-KANG
Build GWK74
An update:
The default AT&T US APN was previously selected, and previously didn't let most apps get data.
Then I read this post: [redacted, google search "Cannot access Google Market application and Gmail on my new LG Optimus One P500 Mobile"]
This suggested it might be an APN issue. By switching to the AT&T HSDPA APN I get data back but at throttled speeds.
After testing speeds in Speedtest.net app and FCC Speed Test app I got 200-300Kbps as expected, but 600-1000Kbps in browser on mobilespeedtest.com. This was misleading. The mobile speed test was only 100KB. In switching to the 2MB full test the speed went right back to 230Kbps. These results plus looking at the graphs the Speedtest.net app gives you shows the traffic is running very fast at the beginning of the download (reminds me of Comcast's PowerBoost).
Back to square one here.

Speedtest apps not working on ICS ROMs?

I am on AT&T in the US - and ever since I switched to an ICS ROM (either CM9 or Samsung's official) I am unable to get my network speeds via any speedtest app. I have tried Speedtest.net, Xtremelabs Speedtest, and the FCC Test app.
I will get decent ping speeds, and then the download test hangs and i never get more than 60kbps as a result, but my upload speeds are always very high, higher than they normally are.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem?
I had a similar problem with ICS ROMs. Speeds were very, very low (compared to GB ROMs with KL1 and KI4 modems). The phone was very sluggish when using the browser, Play Store, and several news apps. But like you said, upload speeds would pop real high, to something like 4 Mbps, then drop to near zero. The "Restart Test" button wouldn't come up for about two minutes. I tried about 20 different APN configs to no avail.
Now that I am back on GB, the phone screams. I haven't yet figured out if it is a custom ROM or an ICS modem issue.

Well the phone seems fine in regards to speeds. It's when I run the speedtest that it records a ridiculous speed. I think it must be something with ICS ROMs and how the speedtest app runs tests

jerdog, when testing XWLPU, I had this same issue. Running a test within the Speedtest.net app the download test hangs, and reports a ridiculously low speed when it's finished, but ping and upload seem normal.
Speeds otherwise seem fine browsing and downloading stuff, and if I run a speed test on a web page (like from Speedtest.net the actual web page via the Flash plug-in, instead of the app), the download speeds are likewise fine. It seems it is only broken in the app.
Did you ever figure out what the deal was?
PS- apologies for the super bump.

Thx for the info. I'll try it again next version of ICS I test.
Edit: sorry... Proxy settings from where? The APN?
Edit 2: it was indeed the proxy settings in the APN. once I removed the proxy, the speed test work just fine. Thx jerdog.

Wifi slow with Play store

Hi guys,
no one has noticed a very slow download speed from Play Store? Before SGS3 i had a HTC ONE X and my download speed it was about 1 Mbytes/sec, now it is 70-80 Kbyte/sec.
My wan is always the same and i haven't change nothing.
Only after my first start of SGS3 (for the synchronization with gmail) the speed seemed like the HTC.
Anyone has some ideas?
Thanks

this is really weird, but i just started experiencing this issue too. my wifi speeds are fine, i downloaded some large applications via my desktop pc and speeds were normal. i even put my phone on mobile data (4g lte) and speeds are also normal. but when on wifi, it is terribly slow.
Tried turning Wifi Power Save off?
*#0011# in dialer (works on Samsung-based roms) -> menu button -> wifi
I tried turning it off. But I dont see a lot of improvement. Using dropsync my SGS2 pulls in around 600KBs over Wifi while my SGS3 only manages around 2-300 tops
