How to put back original HTC 2.1 software? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have G2 Touch and few months ago I successfully restored is as HTC Hero with HTC 2.1 firmware (official).
Eventually, I rooted the device and put custom ROM.
Now I am selling the phone and would like to return to HTC 2.1 firmware. What is the easiest way?
Thanks

I suppose this guide is okay for me, but please someone confirm?

flash the original RUU off the htc website
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=283&cat=2&dl_id=775 That isn't 2.1, but once you have rolled back to that I guess you may be able to get the 2.1 update OTA or something
Edit or just flash a generic rom via the recovery image.

I cannot download from there "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
Can I use tutorial I mentioned above? The Generic HTC 2.1 RUU

yeah download that and give it a shot - should work fine, wouldn't have thought you would have to do anything apart from flash the RUU via your PC.

Try to go to your T-mobile-site (in whichever country you are from) Find Support -> Downloads, and search for your phones manufacturer (T-mobile) and find G2. I think you will be able to install original updates from there

Ok, I will use this file I linked already.
Just one more questions, do I need to do any wipes from Recovery Mode?

No, you don't. RUU recoveres everything (Radio, SPL, ROM, etc.), so there's no need to wipe. And remember, before flashing your phone bring original Recovery back.

G2 Touch Stock RUU?

I've been trying to root my G2 Touch and have used the goldcard method.
I can only find the latest tmobile RUU (2.73) which can't be rooted!
Is there anywhere the stock (1.73) tmobile RUU is?
Regards
Signed update zip is here>> http://www.4shared.com/file/133081624/c5e35fa0/update-hero-t-mobile-1761106-s.html if any good.
Is there a reason for you to use goldcard on your G2? On mine (got at end of last month), it was the original unlocked 1.73 version, and it had an unlocked bootloader, allowing me to use fastboot to boot a custom recovery image (AmonRA) and then do a nandroid backup before flashing an update.zip
Presuming you need to use goldcard, I would have thought that a generic HTC version would have done. So long as it is 1.73, I think it would work fine, since the purpose of the goldcard (IIRC) is to ignore the carrier id and let you install the stock HTC ROM onto the device. From there you could root and flash the recovery partition to allow installation of custom roms.
So in conclusion-
-You might not actually need to use a goldcard, but if you do,
-Give the generic HTC 1.73 ROM a shot
BTW, I haven't personally tried this, so hopefully someone who knows a bit more about this can confirm if this would work, but I reckon it should. If possible, take a nandroid backup first, but this might be a bit difficult if fastboot doesn't work for you.

20. Use the Official HTC RUU to downgrade to 2.73.405.5 here ftp://xda:[email protected]/Hero...ed_NoDriver.exe

worked perfectly for me
You're using a tmobile G2 Touch right? I'm sure I tried this and it brought up the [131] customer ID error lol.. I'll try again though Thanks
yep i am, long story short i had a problem with and i had to apply the official so i could send it back to tmob for repair and once i got it back, i started to follow the video done by lockr and i got the [131] customer ID error when trying to use stock (1.73) ruu, saw the forum post use that ruu worked perfectly
I still got [131] error...
Where did you find the stock (1.73) RUU? The only one I can find is the 2.73, which is my current one.
i didn't use the 1.73 ruu, i used the 2.73 and i used that ruu i'm sorry that i can't help you :-(
Arr okay no worries I'll just wait until the 2.1 rom is released and hope that has some holes in! Thanks for trying
How about one of the first 2 RRUs from this page?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
None of the WWE RUU's seem to work... Only the tmobile one :/
Sounds like the goldcard isn't working properly
It is what makes any old RRU work, as it disables the Carried ID check which means only T-Mobile RRUs work for you. Seems strange...
Personally, I'd try making the goldcard again.
Yea I made the Goldcard twice on the same SD, so maybe its the SD card thats the problem... I try using some others I have somewhere
Iirc, the default micro SD card (2gn) that came with the phone works correctly. I've had a think and I reckon the goldcard is definitely the problem, as a working goldcard will accept any try file, such as the one I referenced before.
Give that a shot and if you have trouble, just try other cards until it works, but I reckon the stock card is your best bet for now. The HTC 1.73 rru should work after that.
I never recieved the stock 2gb card as I bought off an eBay seller...
But lucikily I had one lying about and created the goldcard and loaded the WWE RUU sucessfully, Thanks for your advice!

Dowgrade from 2.1 to 1.5 htc hero

Hi guy. I looked for an answare in the topic but i didn't find so don't kill me. I have a htc hero with a 2.1 rom but i want to go back with a 1.5 rom. I have root and the lastes recovery so if i do a full wipe dalvik cache etc... can i install a 1.5 rom? Sorry for my english and thanks in advance for help!!!!
If you do a full wipe you can then do whatever you want.
as long as the phone is rooted, which i think it is because 2.1 hasn't been released yet, you can install any rom you wish, so long as it is a HTC HERO GSM rom, NOT CDMA. Do a complete wipe of all the settings in recovery mode and then flash the update file. Simple as.
Better still, did you perform a nandroid backup as advised prior to flashing your 2.1 ROM? If so then just boot to the recovery image and select restore.
Other than that, follow the instructions for flashing any ROM, as long as you can find a 1.5 image.
It is GSM hero, thank you for the answare i'll change the rom. I'll do full wipe!!!!
No problem, any time.
so, but what about the radio? should it be downgraded to the previous 'cupcake' version?
You don't have to the existing one will work fine.
I have a 2.1 Custom ROM,too!
So I can install the official "RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed" too,to go back
to 1.5,or I can only flash as "update.zip"?

I don't know if you can from 2.1 to generic ruu but when i had a modaco custom rom i downgrade with generic ruu with the procedure posted by htc and it works so i think you can do a full wipe, install modaco and then you can flash htc generic ruu by htc sync and generic ruuXXXX.exe
Ok,with modaco custom rom,it works, maybe should also works
with other custom roms,too!
Thanks anyway!
just don't flash an official rom if you want to be rooted, if you do, you lose your root access.
If you flash the official RUU from HTC, you will end up losing root and also lose the custom recovery menu. You won't be able to flash any more custom roms unless you root your device again and flash the custom recovery menu.
I would suggest just taking one of Paul's pre-rooted ROMs (from hero.modaco.com) in the form of a .zip file. The rom is identical to the official RUU, only rooted. This will allow you to keep your custom recovery menu and you can then still install custom roms.
ALWAYS PERFORM A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING ROMS
Ok, I have a an HTC Hero, complete with the official 2.1 version. I want to root this and use custom ROMs but I'm in a bind. I tried using a program Regaw post in his http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572 thread but it errored out saying I disconnected my phone when I haven't. All of the root methods I have found are for software versions later than the one I have. I really don't care which version I go to as long as it's one I can actually use Custom ROMs with. I am a newb at this so detailed instructions would be appreciated!
I also just tried to use Universal Androot with no luck, it gets to "Installing toolkit" and fails with a "Failed ! No Fu Goo". I read through the comments for that thread and many others have had that problem to, but no answers have been provided.
that's because you were reading a guide from HTC Hero CDMA forum and not from HTC Hero GSM. If your phone is curved at bottom you have the GSM version. if it's flat you have CDMA.
For GSM version of HTC Hero on how to root and install a custom rom follow this guide
I think you have it backwards? According to CyanogenMOD I definitely have the CDMA and am also still in the same situation...

android doesn't matter.
to return WM to stock either:
1- flash original rom from sd card (will replace hspl, radio and rom) or
via usb (in this order, more or less-- 2c at the end for sure):
2a- flash original radio
2b- flash original rom
2c- use hspl to put spl back on your device
cheers.

But I don't know which stock ROM to download?
I have found one which flashes HSPL, RADIO and ROM, but it is asking If I would like to download the unbranded version or others.
If I do it your way (number1) that's all I need to do, and It will be all back to stock?

you're welcome and yep, it will bring it all back to stock (i mean, the rom you are going to flash has all the stock stuff- rom and radio- in it so that is what will be on your phone and flashing from the sdcard removes hspl- so all stock!)

I used to have the same question =)
"How the hell do I get it back to factory settings?!"
I actually just downloaded the stock ROM from t-mobile. Here's the website for the U.S.A. Hd2:
dl.htc.com/ruudownload/t-mobileUS/DeviceDownloads.aspx?pid=leo
Once you download the stock rom you merely plug you phone up to your computer and click on the rom file to go through the steps.
Hope this helps

Thank you for that
I am from the UK though with an 02 HTC HD2 (Think unbranded as it doesn't say anything on the front except for HTC, unlike the T-mobile one)
I need to send mine back to tmobile and I've reflashed the software and put back on spl. But, will the tmo techs think it's weird when my spl is 2.08 when stock I believe is 2.10 for the upgraded 2.13 rom?
I've tried what people say about renaming the nbh file but my phone doesn't want to flash through the sd card.
So I can just flash any ROM then?
As you have HSPL installed: through USB you can flash almost any ROM (not TMOUS ones)
But if you really want to go to stock:
Download your ROM from HTC Support site
For O2 you will need a branded rom by the looks of it. (This one)
Just try to download, fill in your devices Serial number, it will tell you wether this Rom is Ok or not.
If you need another then search for it....
BTW: Apply HTC hotfixes released after ROM release date, these are not incorporated in the rom you downloaded....
Flash from SD card to completely revert to stock.

No, go to the 'Leo official roms' thread, first post, first link, 1.72 folder, look for the rom
RUU_Le2_UK_1.72.206.3_Radio_CRC_Signed_15.32.50 .07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship.exe
see how it says O2 and UK in the name?
Get that, flash it from USB, then run HSPL2 and choose 1.66.0000
SD card flashing is soooo old fashioned, hehe.
Done, all stock.

Need help, going back to stock

Hey guys,
I seriously need some help, reverting my international HOX+ back to stock, as I am going to sell it.
My main problem is, that i have an o2 germany one, for that it seems to be impossible to get any suitable RUU
I am able to unlock / relock the bootloader, flash custom or stock recovery, flash any custom rom... not a problem.
But I'm stuck with the order of the steps! When I flash a stock rom (1.17.401.xx), my next step should be flashing stock recovery and then relock bootloader, right? I did so and got a security warning at bootloader and it seems, that there is no rom left on the phone.
How do I trick this, to relock, use stock rec. and stock rom?
Thanks for any help!!!
AW: Need help, going back to stock
you need the correct RUU for O2 brandings
yep. any news, where to get it?
thought, there might be a workaround...
I think there is no ruu atm.
I'll have a look for it.
AW: Need help, going back to stock
That would be very nice!

The only o2 ruu is this one:
http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/sec...Radio_3.1204.167.31_release_289474_signed.exe
Based on your informations, you need a ruu for a german phone.
It doesn't matter that there is "UK" in the name.
The United Kingdoms are in europe, like germany.
Give it a try and tell me if it has worked or not.
If it doesn't work, open your Bootloader and flash an custom recovery/kernel/rom and wait until there's a dumped o2 ruu.

1.Go into the bootloader and make sure your phone is connected to your computer.
2.Relock your bootloader, using the cmd (Windows) or the terminal (Linux).
3.You make it with "fastboot oem lock".
4.Run the "ruu.exe" as administrator and let it work.
5.Drink a coffee and wait until it's done.
AW: Need help, going back to stock
Ok, many thanks for that!
I already tried that ruu, but maybe my fault was, I did not lock the bootloader, before.
Will try that, later this evening and give feedback

what about running ruu, extracting rom.zip and flashing this one? ruu could be 1.17.401 for example!?
will this work or result in a brick? is this method still possible on one x series? my evo 3d provided this while using a zip named to pc86img.zip (or very similar :cyclops
edit: if possible, will the phone check cid in the zip?
pretty much same here, except I am on O2 UK, and a higher version than the RUU available so it doesn't work, so frustrating, just want to go back to stock
alternate method would be: flashing a nandroid backup of a stock rom.
problem: don't own one
Is anybody out there, who can provide me a full backup of rom 1.17.207.xx with cid 02___102 o2 germany?
that would save my weekend, guys!
Hi.
I have the same problem but am on o2_UK i cant get back to stock.Doesn't mater whatever RUU i try is the same.
I have 1.17.401.1 cid02__001 and really badly need to go on stock ROM
Any help would be great.
Thanks a lot in advance.

seems like you have a phone with o2 cid, so your out of luck, there's no ruu that worsk with that version.
but there's a german forum i recently found, where you can find stock backups (including boot.img) and stock recoveries.
http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-cu...04-one-x-plus-ruu-s-fuer-htc-o2-vodafone.html
just put the backup into the right folder on your phone, make sure CWM/TWRP recognizes this backup, then flash stock boot.img in fastboot, restore stock backup in your recovery, flash stock recovery in fastboot and finally relock bootloader.
then your phone should be back to stock software.
thank you so far. another problem is I somewhere I have to delete Superuser and relock my bootloader to flash the stock rom. Thats why I deleted Superuser and locked my bootloader again. My question is now can I still flash to stock rom or do I have unlock bootloader again ?

you probably need to unlock your phone again.
as soon as you restored the stock backup, everything you had on your phone except internal storage will be replaced by stock software, all settings will be reset, all userdata will be wiped!!!
so better backup/copy everything you need to your computer before you restore that backup.
