I got the phone back in June for my birthday, but mainly bc it was the most expensive phone from T-Mobile & it looked cool & imean with the Father's Day promotion it was free so Why not? It got me away from AT&T. Well I had fun with the phone but got tired of the constant freezing, so I bought the Nexus One on EBay
It cut me off! Anyway my friend wanted to use my HD2 with Android since I'm not using it so I did factory reset, wiped SD card, upgraded it to most recent Stock Rom: 3.14.531.1 (04666) WWE, and used HSPL3 to unlock (she has AT&T). And I put an android image on SD card for her so she's good to go. But when she put her sim card in it, she couldn't get past WinMo w/out an unlock code. So what should I do? HSPL? HSPL2?

You will need to call or e-mail T-Mobile for the unlock code. They will send it to you via e-mail a couple of days after your request. That is how mine was done. Just let them know that you need to unlock it so that you can use your phone overseas.

hspl has nothing to do with your carrier. roms are independent of carriers (tmo, att). actually, from what i have read 3.14 is not that compatible with hspl - eats a lot of memory.
as noted above, call tmo (say you are leaving the country and need to use it.) there are internet services that can help too from what i read (have never used them.)

Greetings all,
I'm having the following issue with a Qtek 1020 I just purchased from Microdirect, sold as SIM unlocked. The phone just doesn't find the network when I turn it on with my Pay As You Go T-mobile SIM. No error message pops up, nothing asks me for an unlock code etc, I just get the message 'No Service' under Connectivity when I select the aerial icon at the top of the screen. When I go to Phone Settings I can see listed under 'other networks' O2 and Vodafone, but no T-mobile. I've tried changing GSM bands in the bootloader and listing networks but to no avail (I switched through 900, 1900 and 900/1800). I have also tried the unlocking tools around this site with no success. I know the SIM works as it asks for my PIN when I switch on and I can also browse through contacts stored on it. I'm wondering if anyone here has any ideas as I'm all out.
Information about my Qtek:
Qtek 1020
ROM version: 4.02.04 ENG
ROM date: 8/24/05
Radio version: A.33.02
Protocol version: 1.3.3
Model No: PW10B1
Please don't let me pull any more hair out :x
Thanks and warm regards,
Neil.

Hi,
Just wanted to let you know you're not alone! I too bought the 1020 from Microdirect and have the same problem. I've tried my t-mobile pay as you go SIM in an i-mate pda2k and it worked straight away. That made me think the 1020 was restricted to o2/vodafone. If its an unlocked PDA why do Microdirect say it won't work with Orange? Where I work we successfully unlocked an XDA and used an Orange SIM, but that was a couple of years ago.
I've e-mailed qtek but have had no response yet.
I've tried the xda developers ROM and while it is cool I still get the problem with the t-mobile SIM, although it says No Signal as opposed to No Service. I was going to try the GSM modes on the bootloader but notice you've tried that already so I won't bother.
If I get any further I'll post back asap.
Mark
Thanks for your reply Mark and now I can rest knowing I'm not the only one having trouble! I too tried the developer's ROM with no luck, although it was nice to play with the extra applications. Funny how Microdirect stated that it was compatable with T-Mobile, when it seems that it is not. I tried my sister's T-Mobile contract SIM and it doesn't work either, but my mum's Vodafone SIM works fine as well as my dad's Pay As You Go Vodafone SIM. It seems like this device is locked out of T-Mobile.
Regards,
Neil.
News from Microdirect
Microdirect have backtracked on the unlocked claim.
See link below for their comments.
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=11864&GroupID=1162
Oh well!
Yep I saw that. I decided to keep the PDA because it was such a good deal and I'm trying to go for a cheap contract with Vodafone. Check out http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/phonenetwork-84-1-Nokia_1100_on_Vodafone.html - £8 per month for the first 6 months then £16 afterwards. You get 1000 off-peak minutes per month to landlines and other Vodafone users as well as 250 TXTs plus £110 cash back after 6 months!! Sounds like a bargain to me, let's hope I pass the credit check!
Neil.
I was about to ask the very same question myself. I'm somewhat annoyed that Microdirect never even bothered to apologise or correct the mistake directly when I presented this problem to them last week - their response was to simply "return the item". For a Pocket PC PDA though, it's nice and cheap so like others, I'll keep mine and buy the cheapest possible Vodafone PAYG system that I can.
Well my Vodafone contract was approved and I immediately put the SIM into my Qtek 1020 whilst leaving the bundled Nokia phone unopened. All is well, I set up GPRS etc and my handy new PDA just got handier. Now I can sell this Nokia 1101 phone as it's SIM unlocked... might get 20 quid for it or something!
Regards,
Neil.
Okay well here's another damn issue with this thing... After a couple of weeks happy usage, the SD card slot decides to spit out anything I put into it - it just won't hold a card no matter what. I didn't force the mechanism at all or insert a card too forcefully - it just popped out one day and wouldn't go back in. I've written to Microdirect requesting an RMA, they replied thinking I was requesting an RMA for an SD card so I had to correct them and let them know it's actually the card slot in the 1020 that seems to have developed a fault of some kind. Just wondering if anyone else has ever had an issue with the card slot on their wallaby, so maybe we can say they are notoriously weak or something, or perhaps I was just unlucky.
Regards,
Neil.
Update: My replacement 1020 arrived today and all is well, well done to MicroDirect.
Rgds,
Neil.
Hello all, I have just a quick question. I have a SB X01HT that I bought off of Ebay and at this moment I have my Tmobile Sim card in it. I have had pdas in the past, but not with a phone mixed in. Now starting in January I am switching to Cingular for the 3G services. Should I flash the unit with their Rom or just leave the one that’s in it now. The rom ver is 1.23 / radio 1.13 and the spl is 1.04. I guess the phone is unlocked seeing that I am using a T-mobile Sim card. After reading this site for sometime I am not sure of the benefits to flashing to Cingular’s rom. Just wanted to see what others would do. Thanks…

Where you at? Was it cheap?
Anyway, i dont think you HAVE to change it. But some roms have more or less
functions and some are a little better in performance.
I am in the US. As for price I paid 569.00 for the phone and 30 for shipping. I see that The guy I bought it with now sells them at 549.00
Hey everyone, what's up?
Recently I sold mt ATT 8525 to a buddy. He is currently with T-Mobile and the phone needed to be unlocked. I used this unlock process --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
I followed the instructions for Vista and using the micro sd card. Once it was finished, I slipped in his T-Mobile sim and turned on the phone. It asked me to enter an unlock code still, so I entered in some random numbers and it worked. The phone stayed unlocked and worked on his T-Mobile network for about a week and a half. Then it just locked itself all over again. I'm no longer able to try and unlock it for him again because I am out of town for the next 3 months and he isn't too computer savvy.
Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what did you do to fix it?
Also, if an unlock code is entered too many times, will the phone be locked with the original provider (att) for good? We have tried entering the code a total of 4 times (including the time that it worked) I told him not to try entering anymore codes until I can figure this out.
Thanks for any help I may recieve!
Eric

Do you still have AT&T for your phone company? AT&T will give you the sim unlock code for the phone after you've owned it for 2 months (provided it's one of their phones and you still have their service). You just have to call them and tell them you are going over seas and need to use a foriegn sim while traveling. I did this with no problem - the only thing is it takes about a week for them to get you the code (they said they'd email it to me - I actually had to call back after a week and ask for it but they gave it to me.)
well, i purchased the phone on ebay..
Not sure what to say - I'd still probably try calling AT&T (assuming it's an AT&T branded phone and you are a customer of theirs still) it's worth a shot. Beyond that I don't know what to say since I haven't used the sim-unlock tool you spoke of.
well, I appreciate your help. I'll give them a call tomorrow. If they BS with me or whatever, then I think I'll just spring for an ebay sim unlock that's only about 15 bucks.
Hello everyone..i know this has probably been answered but i cannot seem to find it...I have a friend that has gotten a G4 8125 that has a cingular sim card...she wants to make it so that it can go to Tmoble...but tmoble says that the "phone" has to be unlocked..i Looked into the lockiwiz program but it says you need the other sim card..tmoble wont give them a new sim card..so how do i unlock the "phone" so that they can bring it to tmobile. If i do the Hard SPL without flashing the rom and keep it...will it seem to be unlocked when they bring it to them
As far as I have been able to discern, the only way to SIM unlock a G4 Wizard is to go here:
http://imei-check.co.uk/m3000unlock.php
It will cost you 20 British Pounds that you can pay by paypal.

If you're an AT&T customer, just call them and tell them you're planning on traveling, and want to use foreign pay-as-you-go SIMs while abroad. They'll talk you through the SIM unlock on the phone.
Otherwise, you are right, you will need a different SIM to use Lokiwiz. You could buy a cheap pay-as-you-go card from TMobile, I believe. Just use the minutes up, or sell the card on Craigslist when you're done with your SIM-unlock.
Do not do HardSPL for this, it has nothing to do with your issue. That's only for flashing the ROM, not for unlocking the SIM.
Hello
In the last 10 minutes i unlocked a Cingular 8125 G4 with Lokiwiz03a. Lokiwiz03 give you an unlock code to your phone. You only need a NO Cingular sim card but i think you can got from a friend or another one.
Good luck.

Yeah, T-mobile works, used the card out of the old lady's phone. Lokiwiz worked for me
Hey guys,
So my phone developed a strange white mark on the screen. Took it to get it fixed and finally a month later Vodafone returned a different handset to me with the latest Vodafone ROM on it as I expected.
Bottom line is I don't want the Vodafone ROM on it. Can I simply install the official HTC ROM onto the handset from their website? Is it that simple or will it totally mess up my handset?
Thanks.
Richard.
Ha, just discovered now that it is locked to Vodafone. Can I make an issue out of this with the idiots at Vodafone? HTC website won't let me download their ROMs. What can I do about this?
do a hspl and flash away.......
BIG ISSUE
If the phone you send in to repair was originally an unbranded device and they returned you a branded device. I would make a BIG (oh no a HUGE) issue out of it, they just can't do that. They have to replace it with a similar device, a branded Vodafone device isn't worth half on the second hand market because of SIM-lock.
But you cannot just install a HTC ROM, you'll have to use HSPL2 (1.66HSPL preferable) but HSPL2 can void your warranty, all tough it is reversible. With HSPL2 the Vodafone branded device will still be SIM-locked.
webpatrick this is exactly as I thought...so yesterday before looking at the posts on here I sent a very heated email to Vodafone telling them exactly as it is. This handset is worthless to me. And you are right about the branding. I bought a phone last year that was branded (I didn't know this when I got it) and I had loads of trouble trying to sell it on. I can mess with the ROMs all I want but the bottom line is that any new HTC ROMs would never install unless I HSPL2 it, so how could I sell it on to someone without telling them that it is branded? I can't.
Words cannot convey how fuming I am with Vodafone right now. It took them a month to get a working device back into my hands...and then it wasn't even my device or indeed a similarly set up device. Absolutely pathetic. This means I have to make more journeys to the Vodafone store, waste my time and money etc.
Thanks for your posts guys. I will let you know what develops. I should be recieving a reply to my email at some point soon.
Richard
Ok so I got this email back from them today. How do you think I should proceed?
"Hello Richard,
To reinstall the HTC ROM on your phone you can visit the nearest Vodafone stores.
Alternatively, you need to contact the HTC manufacturer if they can help you to reinstall the HTC ROM on your phone.
I trust this helps."
What should I do? Should I persue the issue or do one of the above?
Thanks
Richard
So basically....THEY DIDN'T READ MY EMAIL.
So it was originally branded, you probable had a bit of discount back then.
But the employee that sold it to you probable didn't know it was branded neither. Vodafone used to brand devices with a visible vodafone logo on the outside, and they didn't do that with the HD2.
I also was mislead by it a year ago, but since an vodafone upgrade is available, i don't bother anymore, cause I can install any ROM I like with HSPL2 (except new 3.14 ROMs), and revert with the official vodafone upgrade if needed.
So if you want an original HTC ROM, you have to use HSLP2 or for the latest HTC ROM a GoldCard, cause there's no HSPL for the new 3.14 ROMs (with SPL 3.03.0000 bootloader) (see Artemis Thread).
Turns out I have just installed custom roms. I figured that I might as well void the warranty. I will just revert to the stock if worse comes to worse.
