Hi,
I have a vibrant phone and seems like its HWL (hardware locked),
I want to know what's the safest way to remove this lock ? Odin or update.zip method ? There's another?

Right here is how I would do it IF i were HWL

That works flawlesly. It used to take me several tries to hit dl or recovery mode, after flashing that fix, I can boot to either with so little effort its ridiculous.

^ awesome man.
If you've gotten the ji6 update, or any ji6 based ROM you should not have any recovery issues. I was HWL on my new vibrant but once the ji6 update came I gained recovery access by holding down the volume keys.
^ I assume you got the ota then?
Those who did odin, kies, etc still have the issue.

ah, i didn't know it had to be the OTA. Yes I did receive the official OTA.
This has ji6 mini kies update, and still can't boot into recovery or download mode

Did you even read my post and follow the link?
Yes thanks for the link ! im downloading the files right now and ill try it (*fear*)
Btw, for example if i have installed XXX ROM, and i want to back the phone completly to STOCK (to get mini kies update for example) its that possible ?

Me too, so youre in the states right? Did you get a triangle with an exclamation mark in it in the notification bar?
Because thats what happened to me, when I go to about phone and try the check for updates nothing happens - have toy tried this?
Thanks.
Yes, im in the states. When i tried to download the update from the phone it takes me to the update site, let's me start the download but the progress bar never moves lol. Then it says download unsuccessful. Tried using wifi but still no dice. The update server might be down. I hope it's froyo...
I wish it would be but I'm 100% sure it's not.
It's way too soon for Froyo to arrive as Eclair isn't even officially out yet.
And considering how long it took for Dell to make an Eclair ROM, I'm sure it's not Froyo, but maybe the official Eclair?
The download address seems strange to me.
I can't even start the download. Server timeout

I got this update on uk 21 streak running 2.1& it wouldn't download for me
I tried on the phone and computer, both timed out.
Will try again tonight. It's most likely the real 2.1 update.

The official 2.1 I'm guessing? So how does this work... If we are rooted and already on 2.1, can we still update to this one using the same method we did with the unofficial 2.1..?

If you have the stock recovery on there still, you should be ok, even via OTA.

By stock recovery, you mean no custom bootloader? All I did was root and go thru fastboot (volume up and power on) with update.zip with 2.1 (O2 version) and update from the zip. Hit the camera button to confirm update.zip.
so is it true 2.1 is officially out?

Koush's recovery seems to be the only custom recovery on the Streak so far. If you last flashed that they you have a custom recovery. Based on your statement above, you should be ok.
E:signature verification failed
on every ROM I try to install. Can someone link a solid kernel that I can flash over this new kernel so I can continue my flashing ways?...
I'd suggest to ODIN to stock, but try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866840
Yeah, Odin to stock is probably "best practices" anyway every time you flash a new ROM, eh?
And the one to do it to is the Eugene's something that won't brick right?
I think cwr has the option to turn off verification look in the menus, that might fix your problems

I don't know, I always just go back to JFD, and as soon as it boots up I reboot, load up into recovery and flash away.

The update.zip is still on the SD card so you just need to get into 2e and reinstall packages, no root needed

Also turn on debugging while using this.
All this does is push a SUPERUSER.apk into your files, so you won't even have to reboot, but i suggest you do.
-open the program
-connect phone with debugging on
-click "start" root, you'll see some thigns going on the program, its doing something to your system idk, im not a dev or anythign lol, then it pushes a superuser.apk and then your good to go.
-reboot suggested RIGHT AFTER IT TELLS YOU ITS FINISHED, but not needed.
Just tried to get root and debinged/bloated using this file:
http://www.multiupload.com/9JSTWA6Y6L
It was screwing everything up. a million force closes browser didnt work market didnt work phone kept restarting and everything was super slow. i dont need any fancy crap here.
so I just went back and did this again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124391
all I need is to:
1)be up to date(im on eb01 now, thats up do date right?)
2)be rooted.
I will just freeze or delete bing and apps i dont want with titanium backup. I dont need all these extra bells and whistles and custom things because so far it has only caused me problems.
whats a simple way to get root so i can get all my apps back?
Go here
http://www.multiupload.com/6ET46L1ATD
It is ed01 fully stock but rooted...it isn't the most up to date but its closer then eb01..
Flash with odin and the only thing you will have to do separately is odin the modem you want.
From there you can install TiBu and freeze what you don't want

You're on stock EB01? Just let the OTA load and you will be @ ED04
If you are not stock, load one of the stock roms and OTA from there.

if im not mistaken its because EB01 is not an official verizon rom so you cannot OTA from there.. you can odin eclair (DL09 or DI01) or 'official' froyo (ED01) and OTA from there

ah I spoke too soon, doesn't seem like there is an ED01 all in one package.. you may have to download the complete DL09 from the roms/kernels/radios sticky instead... I think there's a thread to get to ED04 easily without all that waiting and downloading, when I get home to my pc I'll link you

Go to settings--> about phone and scroll down to base band...the last 4 digits are what you are in now...so just take a note of that, then odin the ed01 file and reboot then check your base band again and see if it's different...i can't remember if a modem is included or not ...either way if neither of them are what you want, search though the stickies to find the modem you want and odin it through...there is also a way to update your modem using comradsvens method but I would stick to odin until you get a little more acquainted with the whole flashing process

Yes there is a way, just in case you don't have it here we go . If you don't have clockwork mod recovery installed use your phone to download the cwr update.zip in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028 .Scroll down and look for directions on how to install cwr. Use a file manager app called " Astro " to put the file on your internal sd. Once you have recovery mode installed you can simply use your phone to download a custom 2.2 ROM and flash it through recovery mode (there will be directions on how to flash this in the thread) , just be sure to READ everything before flashing. This is probably the most popular 2.2 ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441976 , you can search for others if you wish. This will pretty much void your warranty so if that's a problem then your probably stuck with 2.1 until you get your usb port fixed. Here is the closest Stock 2.2 ROM you will find if that's what your looking for http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674519

yes... you can get an update.zip from http://dl.dropbox.com/u/59531727/Clockwork Recovery/Update.zip taken from Woodrube's Signature.
FYI DONT use KIES. It may Hard Brick your device. Place this update.zip in the root of internal SD (NOT inside a folder). You will have to do reinstall packages twice to get it to CWM maybe.
There are many good 2.2 ROMs like Moped's Ryders ROM and Fishman's.

I can't help but to notice that your signature says MB855. Since you are using a Photon, are you doing this modding for a friend's phone? If so and that person is not the "technical" sort, I suggest you leave them on 2.2 for now.
ICS ROMs are well beyond what you would think since we have no official ROM from Samsung for our devices, however they are not without dangers and pitfalls. There is a bug that is hitting Vibrants, Captivates, I-9000's, a few Asus Transformers (tf101)-in fact someone got hit with it yesterday. It is called the Encryption UnSuccessful bug and it will render the Internal_sd useless and you will have to hack your External_sd to run ANY ROM. Other than that and the fact that the Vibrant has crappy GPS (sans hardware fix), ICS ROMs are spectacular, especially since very few phones are running ICS at all, let alone 4.0.4.
I suggest you read about the EU bug but my pick for the best daily driver ICS ROM is by far ICZen with SubZero kernel. You can find it here but check out the dev section too.
