[Q] Tethering on mini/pro - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Any body tried tethering on mini or mini pro?
I tried with few, din't work

i did, you need root privileges first
first, you should turn your wifi on and add Wi-Fi network (setting,wireless&networks,Wi-Fi settings, add Wi-Fi network
give a name like "droid" (mine with no security)
then turn your wifi off
open root explorer (require root access)
after that edit the /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
and add some line into it:
ctrl_interface=wlan0
update_config=1
ap_scan=2
network={
ssid="droid" <--- your wifi name (mine droid)
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
mode=1
}
finally, turn your wifi on, and let your laptop scan it
hope these help

I tried your guide out, after a few restarts I got access to my phone's wifi with my laptop, just no internet access and the phone kept on searching for the IP untill it turned off the wifi.
Do you have any clue as to why?

I have tethering working on my mini pro. All I did was root, and installed Barnacle Tethering.
There was no setup necessary, just opened the app and pressed start and it showed up in the wireless list for my laptop.

cause you should turn on your internet connection sharing on your laptop (sharing your laptop connection via laptop to your x10 wifi)

sharing laptop internet with x10

hi all
straight to the point
is there anyway that i can share my PC or laptop internet connection with my x10??
i dont wanna use my x10 internet since its very limited
thnx
You haven't told us much about how your PC/laptop connects to the Internet...
Via wireless? - > Connect the x10 to your wireless network
Via ethernet - > You might be stuffed
Via USB 3G dongle-thing -> Possible to connect a wi-fi access point to an ethernet port (with ICS enabled) and connect to that... or perhaps get another USB device designed to share that connection... I know they exist, there used to be something like that so Nintendo DS could share a connection from a PC.
But it's not really clear unless you tell us how your PC/laptop connect to the Internet.
I'd be careful too as I am on my wi-fi network but it frequently drops back to 3G. I'm on unlimited data (O2 UK) so it's not really a problem for me, but if I wasn't aI'd be caning that data usage...
the PC uses a DSL internet line , the laptop too
i dont have wireless internet
my DSL is through the phone line , and i have a DSL modem
my modem conncted to the pc , through usb port
and the phone line is connected to that DSL modem
i dont have any wireless router and ethernet router
i heard about thethering .. but i understand its to use the phone internet connection on the laptop or pc ,
but i wanna do the exact opposite , use my PC's connection on my x10i
thanks
Create a adhoc wireless connection on your laptop preferebly without any security then connect your x10 with the same connection
You will have to do the settings manually
Hope this helps.

our x10 doesn't have the capability to connect to an ad-hoc connection, at least i haven't been able to detect any. i was able to set up wifi tether on my friends phone, and the x10 was unable to detect it. Same problem when i set up my laptop for an ad-hoc connection, cannot be detected by the x10
has ur pc / notebook got wifi?
if so, u may try this:
http://connectify.me/
it helped me when i was travelling abroad

Its true. I tried Xperia X10 with ad hoc network and it is not discovering the network. I am now unable to have wifi network for my xperia. I have belkin wifi usb adapter but I came to know that it is not compatible with connectify. My old wifi router is dead, I m struck with edge speed on my xperia.
Is there any way to use connectify with belkin wifi usb adapter? Or are there any other software that supports belkin to make wifi hotspot.
x10 cant detect ad-hoc network, so its useless to create one
and i cant use http: // connectify .me/ since im running both my laptop and pc on xp pro
no other solutions ??

i cant upload it,because you should edit this file Considering your ad-hoc connection name and it needs some setting to be activated!!!
i try to translate it if i can!!
here you are:
!) well at first you need to create an ad-hoc(any name you can use for it, my ad-hoc name is xperia)
2) then sharing your internet on it!!
3) trun on your x10s wifi.
4) create a network on your x10 with the same name!!!(add Wi-Fi network)
5) turn off x10s wifi
6) go to data/misc/wif/
after you open wpa_supplicant.conf
you should see this text:
ctrl_interface=DIR=/data/system/
wpa_supplicant GROUP=system
update_config=1
network={
ssid="xperia"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
}
change it like this:
ctrl_interface=DIR=/data/system/
wpa_supplicant GROUP=system
update_config=1
ap_scan=2
network={
ssid="xperia"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
mode=1
}
dont forget the backup!!
and-roid.ir
i tried it , it didnt work , it just messed up my wifi on the x10
and i couldnt scan or use the wifi on my phone ..
so i had to put back the back up file
but i found something else
there is a small software which u can install on ur laptop or pc
called BZEEK
which will work , and will share the PC's wifi

Barnacle with new 2.1.1.A.0.6

Hi,
Is anyone able to connect to the internet with barnacle on 2.1.1.A.0.6 ?
I'm trying with the same settings as the previous firmware that were fine, but it doesn't work anymore...
Thanks ( Sorry for my English )
Hi
I got the same problem and can't
connect to my NB.
Tested few tools for tethering but none of it worked
fine.
At least Barnacle:
It works fine and it is showed in my NB connections
as a peer-to-peer but I can't connect to it.
Tried changing some settings but it still can't connect.
Hope some one could fix the problem.

2.1.1.A.0.6
Barnacle settings:
WEP enabled

Skip wpa_supplicant ✓

Greets from Munich
Great! now I know its not only my problem ... Lets hope it gets fixed
Not able to check at this moment,
can anyone try the solutions here?

I use the same setting, except different WEP passkey. I use either WEP passkey authentication control or just NAT control, just use random port which starts from 2xxxx.
try re-installing the barnicle.
here the settings I used:
For NAT Control:
WEP : disabled
AutoAssociate : off
Access Control : checked
NAT Reserved Ports : 20009
For WEP Control:
WEP Enabled : 6 or 9 (having conflict with other device, or its only me).
Access Control : unchecked
I don't use both WEP and Nat control at the same time.
Works for me on 2.1.1.A.0.6 with MiniCM-1.0.0-Alpha2, Froyo Cyanogen 6.1 « rom » and WPA supplicant enabled
But it doesn on DarkFab X v1.0 with gingerbread theme
Devilo
After a few trys and some observation I found the Problem. Every baconinginterval the adhoc Network have a other MAC. I try to set a fix BSSID in Barnacle but now i can't find the Network so i undo it.
After some Trys i found a workaround:
1. Start Barnacle
2. Press Associate
3. Try to connect with your Computer
4. After entering password, your Computer try to connect, press 1 time again Associate
My Settings are:
WEP Encyrpting: Enabled
Skip wpa_supplicant: Disabled
Auto Associate: Disabled
WAN: rmnet0
Hi
i tried your workaround,
but it isn't working.
After I entered the password, my netbook immediatley
said "Can't connect to network".
I tried to press Associate, but you can't be this fast
So I still can't tether my connection ...
But thank you for trying
When i retry it 3-4 times it work for me, but with the previous firmeware barnacle work much better.
Hi
I still can't collect,
but I got to that point,
that my netbook says "Enter password"
But when I enter it my netbook
is loading and then again says "Can't connect to network" -_-
Even though I press asocciate when it is loading
or when I enter the key ...
I tried it many times with little changes,
but it don't work ...
now Im having the same problem, I have it working for almost a week, but when I update the barnacle to newest(via android market).. now it is not working even without NAT Control and WEP enabled. I think this is a bug on barnacle release rather than the SE update. coz I got this working on 2.1.1.A.0.6 using old barnacle copy.
any chance someone still have an old version of barnacle?
I haven't yet tried reverting to this copy. its a very old copy of barnacles. see
http://www.esnips.com/doc/0d39f06d-afe1-41fc-9577-0ad6bf1c9093/barnacle
thanks! i'll try this one, once i got to tinker with my sister's lappy.
Hi
i tried it with the older barnacle.apk
Installed it, set settings an started
but i stil can't connect
But thank you for searching this older version
for us
same problem here .. my computer and iPod can connect but the problem is that it's taking me several tries before my gadgets can connect.
i even have to press associate several times and turn on/off barnacle but most of the times it always fails.
with the previous build, my gadgets can connect without any problem.

[Q] Internet via ad-hoc

Hi people, i don't have wifi in my house so i tried to create a wifi acces point on my laptot but in my mini pro doesn't appear my wifi.
can anyone help me?
I use win xp and ubuntu 11.04
thanks and sorry for my bad english (i'm spanish)
dare i ask what your settings are, such as...
ssid; or if its set to even broadcast?
encryption or no encryption?
is ics on?
what band(s) are your broadcasting off your notebook b/g/n?(think the mini only has b/g)
are you broadcasting from like the attic down to the basement?
My wifi chip is Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
The connection is shared and without encryption.
I used this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndYUkSdCQ3Q&feature=related

. But it is not sure, if it will work or not.
So there is another way, Make your pc act as an Access point.
Easy Way: First (Did not work for me. )
Easy Way: Second (Have not tested it.)
Hard Way:
Not sure if it will work on XP.
1. Go to Start -> Run, Type services.msc
2. Find if you have the "Routing and Remote Access" [/B]
If it is ther then Procceed. But if you dont have it, You can not make a virtual Wifi Router.
3. Right Click on "Routing and Remote Access", Select Properties, Select Automatic from the Dropdown menu, click on OK. Then restart your PC.
4. After Restarting the PC, Copy and paste the code below in any text file and save it as “.bat” file.
Note: replace yourSSID with any SSID you like and yourKEY with any password you like.
Code:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork ssid=yourSSID key=YourKEY keyUsage=persistent
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
Double click on it.
You can see an Extra Wireless Connection in your “Network Connections” folder.
5. Right Click on your main internet connection, go to Properties, select Sharing, Put tick on First box and select the extra Wireless Network Connection.
Done.
Now you can use internet through this.

[Q] Ad-hoc wifi support on XPERIA MiNi Pro [Ice Cream Sandwich]

Hi,
Few days back i updated my MiNi Pro to Ice Cream Sandwich and rooted it..
same as Gingerbread, Ice cream sandwich doesn't have Ad-hoc wifi support..
It can only connect to an infrastructure wifi only..
I want to connect my Mini Pro to the ad-hoc virtual hotspot created by my laptop, or Nokia N79 [Using JoikuSpot – Mobile WiFi HotSpot for Nokia] so that i can get internet access on my Mini Pro using wifi ..
Thanx.

The native Adhoc in the ICS is not workin, i use WiFi Tether for Root Users: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
Opend the App, in Setting choose the perfil "ICS WLAN1"
Connect to adhoc
I changed data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf (not /system/bin/wpa_supplicant)
Step1:First i scanned my adhoc network using Wifi Manager. It shows adhoc networks. I ignored it's warning and tried to connect. It'll fail.No problem! We now have the adhoc network listed in wpa_supplicant.conf.
Note: you can skip this step if you know how to edit wpa_supplicant.conf manually or if your device already lists adhoc networks on scanning.
Step2: You'll need to root your device if you're doing this through your device itself. If you use adb you may not need to root your device.(I had root access by default through adb. So rooting the device wasn't necessary for me). If you're using pc(windows or linux), i recommend Android Commander. If you're doing this from device itself, use some Root Explorer and Terminal Emulator.
Pull and/or edit data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf. Add the following line
ap_scan=2
Find line like
network={
ssid="your adhoc name"
bssid=*some value*
.
.
}
Delete bssid line.
Add/Change the following
scan_ssid=1
priority=1
mode=1
Push back/save the modified file.
chown ownership back to system.wifi. Type the following in adb/Terminal Emulator
#chown system.wifi data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
Ok, done! Now you can turn on wifi and if the specified adhoc network is nearby, your device'll automatically connect to it. Don't scan for new networks. If you do, adhoc support will be lost and you'll have to start over again!
Advantage: Safer than modifying system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant binary. Saves you the trouble of compiling modified wpa_supplicant or finding a compiled one for your platform.
Drawback: This is just a temporary solution.You'll have to repeat this process for every new adhoc network as it doesn't enable adhoc forever. It is good for connecting to your home network or other known networks, but if you want to connect to any adhoc network you scan,then this is not your method. Because, wpa_supplicant.conf will be overwritten every time you scan a new network.

i try, have error, wifi can't turn on
Do chown on wpa_supplicant.conf
You have error because you didn't change ownership back to System and group as wifi. To do this do the chown command from adb or a Terminal Emulator/shell:
chown system.wifi /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
Please refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591207.
For explanations:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1511544
Didn't work
I try chown in adb, still didn't work. My phone is WT19i
Backup of wpa_supplicant.conf
Do you have a backup of wpa_supplicant.conf with you. Try it.
If still not working try changing permissions:
chmod 775 /data/misc/wpa_supplicant.conf
Didn't work

still didn't work, can't connect to ad-hoc
Finally its working
All i done was first turn off wifi and then open wpa_supplicant.conf in data/misc/wifi and placed
network={
ssid="Dilushan"
mode=1
frequency=2412
key_mgmt=NONE
priority=50
}
in end. Dilushan should replace with wifi network name. Then got ownership back to system.wifi by typing the following 2 commands in Terminal Emulator.
su
then
chown system.wifi data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
thats all. Then i opened wifi in setting and it automatically connected adhock network named Dilushan. I connected successfully to nokia phone wifi network created by joikuspot and browsed internet and also connected to a windows laptop. my device xperia mini 4.0.4 .431 rooted locked bootloader.
Thanks Hexcube this is awsome. i even started a thread with no answer before.
Thanks for trying
I'm glad that it worked.I wasn't sure if it'll work on xperia. I couldn't get a rooted xperia to test. Thanks for testing this. Now, i'm sure it'll work on nariman's Xperia Mini Pro.
Very good

It's not phone dependent ... Your pc should be properly setup for this .. You can google this query and you can find good tutorials.
Sent from my WT19i using xda app-developers app
Not work

What's your Operating System? If it's Linux, I can help u! But I am assuming, it's Windows! Try Googling 'Connect Android phone to Ad Hoc network'!
ad hoc actually possible
All i done was first turn off wifi and then open wpa_
supplicant.conf in data/misc/wifi and placed
network={
ssid="Dilushan"
mode=1
frequency=2412
key_mgmt=NONE
priority=50
}
in end. Dilushan should replace with wifi network name. Then got ownership back to system.wifi by typing the following 2 commands in Terminal Emulator.
su
then
chown system.wifi data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
thats all. Then i opened wifi in setting and it
automatically connected adhock network named
Dilushan. I
connected successfully to nokia phone wifi
network created by joikuspot and browsed internet
and also connected to a windows laptop. my
device xperia mini 4.0.4 .431 rooted locked
bootloader.
Very good
