Clarivue screen protector - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone own one of these screen protectors for their X10? My order came in and my screen protectors have a weird cut-out on the right side near the proximity sensor. Does everyone else's clarivue have that section gone?
I've had screen protectors before but they've always covered the entire screen...

good luck man, its one of the worst screen protector ive ever purchased.

Received mine in the mail yesterday.
What the ****.
Why would you cut a screen protector like that? It makes no sense. I'm in the process of emailing them to sort out a replacement or refund. If they make me pay a restocking fee or for postage, I'm going to be pissed.

LOOL, I had one of these, worst screen protector ever.
Sent from my X10a miui+zkernel using XDA App

to this day I have been more than happy with my invisible shield protector
the sides and back are useless but the screen protector is A+ (i wish i didnt buy the full phone coverage..)

I have a mirrored one for my white X10a and looks quite nice, will post a pic in a bit.

I think that goes the other way, donnytuco. That cutout goes over the light sensor to the right of the earpiece.
But yeah, I still haven't installed it and don't plan on purchasing anything ever again from Clarivue. Complete waste of money.
I emailed them about that cutout and they said it was for the light sensor. I told them that the X10 already has a screen protector on it and it has no effect on the sensor... Plus, why would a supposedly optically clear film alter the sensor anyways? They then told me not to remove the oem protector as it wasn't meant to be removed and to put the clarivue on top. WTF?
IMHO, they're idiots.
I've had the Zagg shields before. Not worth it and kinda overpriced (I used a 50% discount code too!) The shields was a magnet for dust and eventually it would just never stick.

Lol, i just bought some x2 screen protectors for 0.99$ for both and they are jsut awesome and i can re-wash them!

Is there a point for a screen protector?

Topic. Don't want to blow another 20 dollars if I dont need to. I heard gorilla glass is tough, so that's simply what i'm wondering. TIA
You don't need a $20 screen protector. Even the very cheapest clear screen protectors will work just fine. But you should definitely buy one unless you enjoy risking the screen being scratched.
Never had one on my EVO and I will never have one on my E3D. My EVO screen is in perfect condition. It really depends on how well you take care of your stuff. For me its a no.
I already have the Zagg on my EVO 3D screen and platinum case on it since yesterday. I have a 4 year old who loves to play with my phone. It's a must for me and it has saved me a couple of times. I replaced mine 2x from him messing with it. When i sold it yesterday, the screen was flawless.. It's just like big Zone said, it's how well you take care of it.
I never had one on my Evo. By the end, I had dropped it a couple of times, carried it in my pocket, etc, and it came out with only minor surface scratches that could only be seen in direct sunlight. So I won't be putting on on my 3D.
ive never had a screen protector on any of my recent phones.evo 4g, arrive, nexus s and now not evo 3d. But an employee at my store somehow managed to get a decent scratch dead in the middle of his. not sure how he thinks he had it in his pocket with a lighter. and he takes care of his stuff. so it is possible
i build scaffolding in a paper mill so a screen protector is a must for me as well as a defender case. i cant tell you how many times a screen protector has saved me from scratches.
You can get great deals on ebay...like 2 dollars for 6 of them.
Of course you need them. It never hurts to have it on there, have had them on all my phones. The one i have now has a couple scratches on it....i know the protectors are weaker than the screen glass but for two dollars why not slap one on there?
I posted an email from HTC in another post about Gorilla Glass.
It's not listed on Corning's site, and HTC says that it doesn't have Gorilla Glass.
Some people say that the email is wrong, but without anyone actually saying there is GG in the phone, I'm assuming that it doesn't have it.
Dear [name],
I appreciate your interest in some of new Android devices like the HTC Sensation 4G and the HTC EVO 3D. You were wondering about the availability of Gorilla glass in either of these new Android devices. Some of our devices come with screens made out of a proprietary formula of glass and some have Gorilla glass. Unfortunately, these devices are not in the list for Gorilla glass.
If you need any further assistance, you are welcome to send another inquiry through the HTC website by going through the Support page (http://www.htc.com/us/support) then tapping ‘send us an email’. You should input all the necessary information requested on the page.

I know some people will argue it, but without anyone actually saying that it does (other than some review or another forum), I don't believe it.
So yes, a screen protector is a good idea. Even if you never need it, it's cheap and it's always nice to have just in-case something does happen.
Thunderbolt had gorilla glass and it scratched super easy. I would imagine just like anything, there are different qualities to gorilla glass. For instance HTC could have cut a deal for a lesser product for cheaper money.
I normally take care of my devices, never really had an issue, except 1 time I was careless and a tape gun thing went flying out of my hand(no idea how) and the blade smacked dead on the screen of my evo. It made a little bubble on my zagg shield, but I still think it would have put a nice big scratch on the screen itself. Just for the occasional f'up, i'm going to be getting a screen protector.
I have screen protectors. The first week I had my Evo 4G I was using the Sprint screen protector. The screen got several little scratches where the screen protector doesn't cover. I bought a full cover shortly after that.
I would carry my phone in my front pocket.
IMO, No 10char

You don't know that. Most anything strong enough to scratch a full glass screen can peel off a screen cover while doing so.
I rarely use Screen protectors - but.. since i'm always an earlier adopter for the latest and greatest phones (yes, i did own and iphone4 at one point) friends and family always take it away from me and mess around. I'll keep a cheap protector on it for a couple months then remove it - and go naked.

$20? I really must start selling screen protectors to you if you are willing to pay that! They only cost about 20 cents in bulk, so some of these sellers have quite a markup! That said, I do think some of the places like Steinheil have a premium product.
Let me ask you this, have you ever seen an iPhone with a scratched screen? Those have gorilla glass too. It does scratch.
I have a clarvue screen protector on right now. Even though I take good care of my phone, a screen protector is cheap insurance. You can't even tell it is on.

This is what I have also, 2 for ~$11.00 from their site, iirc. I like it better than any of the others I've tried.
What is so special about Clarivue protectors compared to the cheap ones?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
no screen protector needed. You can literally take a razor to the screen and it will be fine. It takes a ton of force and something very very tough to scratch the screen. I do run a protector but not to protect but to give a matte finish which works wonders in sunlight and also makes your finger just glide across the screen. The Otter Box Defender has the perfect material screen built in for this.

[Q] Screen Protectors

I just ordered me the photon today, I like to put screen protectors on my phones as soon as I can.
What are our options for high end screen protectors for the photon?
After some searching, the only one I found was skinomi. Currently $6.95 on amazon.
I ordered a 5 pack off eBay for $3 and change. It's shipping from Hong Kong
The 3 pack of screen protectors for the HTC EVO 3D sold in the Sprint retail stores for $14.99 plus applicable sales tax are a perfect fit for the Motorola Photon 4G. IMHO, the Otterbox Defender Series Case is your best protection for it.
Just bought a case on eBay that comes with a screen protector. We'll see how it works out.

I'm currently using the EVO 3D screen protector from the Sprint retail store. It is working well but getting a few scratches. The protectors are definately a bit more than I would like but I wasn't willing to risk scratches to the screen. With my prior EVO i used ghost armor... the sprint sales person said the EVO 3D screens are specifically designed to not interfere with the touch technology.... not sure if I buy it but I was still suckered into spending ...
I have never heard of that skinomi skin are they as good as Zagg?

they dont cover the bottom portion of the screen, sorry fail, scatches have a way to find places that are not covered.
Also the oil/dirt from your finger rubbing will eventually start to lift the edge of the film.
Do you even need one for the Photon since it comes with gorilla glass? It was my understanding that you dont and thats why we here at sprint don't sell screen protectors for them

I actually received mine yesterday (2 days after I ordered it, I'm impressed).
But I have some fitment issues with the skin.
Not sure if it's a bad cut or if they're all like this but it seems it was cut just a hair too wide.
Three out of four corners line up really well, however one goes past the screen by about 1mm.
I've uploaded pictures but I'm not allowed to post outside links at the moment
I've contacted skinomi, waiting to see what they say.
Just got my Skinomi and applied it, everything seemed fine but an hour later i noticed i let some lint, very small string get stuck underneath, DOH! otherwise mine fit snug. regardless of the lint ill keep mine on for now until the BodyGaurdz Kiosk or Invisible Shield kiosk gets in the Photon and ill have them apply a new skin.
Damn after another hour i realized my skinomi fit perfectly, i had no problems with fit, no curling, everything is great except for that damn piece of lint in the middle of the screen, damnit. I guess i will try to block it out of my head that it exists.

Yes you do need one on the photon. I scratched my screen on the second day I had it. Thank god I convinced the sprint store to replace it because of a restarting problem. More I'm babying it until I get some protection.

From my experience, the area of screen I see most prone and most likely to end up with scratches on it sjjones is the LCD area which the HTC EVO 3D screen protectors completely cover. As I stated as well, the best defense and protection for the Motorola Photon 4G is the Otterbox Defender Series case. Yes, it is the most expensive carrying solution on the market, but it is also the most protective.

Try contacing zagg to see if they'll replace it. I know some of the brands of those kinds of screens have some kind of lifetime warranty.
Although generally they don't cover bad installation, it's still worth a shot.
Well other than the lint and occasional finger nail mark the Skinomi ended up pretty well, its almost exactly like the invisible shield but much cheaper. No bubbles, no peeling. The lint bothers me though; Instead of returning this one which costs you like 4-5 bucks (on their so called warranty). I decided to purchase the carbon fiber skin + screen protector combo they sell and just put a new screen protector on in a cleaner environment.
http://www.skinomi.com/sk5877-motorola-photon-skin-carbon-fiber-skin-protector.html
(it supposedly looks different than in the picture but i cant find anywhere on the web a picture of the real cut)
I have a 25% off coupon for skinomi, "skinomi25"
when i get this i'll try to take pictures this time, i keep forgetting to charge my dust-covered Nikon D80
Steinheil?
Anyone ever try Steinheil Ultra Crystal protectors? I can't find one yet for the Photon but heard they are the best available. Easily found for other phones on ebay.

SPIGEN Steinheil Ultra Oleophobic Protector

Just got some review products in and applied this bad boy a few minutes ago. If you're looking for a protector that completely fights off grease and oil but keeps the screen looking the EXACT same, then this is the one for you. You can't even tell it's on. Application is easy and the protector fits the screen almost exact. So exact, however, that you have to make sure the top of the protectors lines up exactly with the top of the phone. If you leave a few mm of space at the top, you'll get this (see photos).
Besides that, this is almost the perfect protector. I also have their Matte protector and I'm getting the GLAS.t in soon. I'll have reviews up on my YouTube channel: http://youtube.com/BlackPrince310.
Thanks for the review, I look forward to seeing your review of the glas.t product. I'll be ordering it via Amazon once SGP adds it to their Amazon storefront in the next 2-3 weeks (according to their email reply).
Oh hey i just saw your review last night i left a comment.

Ah it is all glass. Well the price makes sense then. Sorry to hear that happened to you. Guess that is the advantage of a cheaper one, if they get dust, just throw them away.
I would write to Spigen and tell about this experience. One would hope there would be a way to clean, apply adhesive, and start over again at that price.

Heard this works too. Haven't tried it personally.
This screen protector just arrived and it is now in my garbage. First application had dust all under it and was nowhere near salvageable and the second application resulted in the screen protector literally cracking resulting in what looked like hair under the protector. I watched a crack form so I know it wasn't my golden locks.
20 bucks down the drain.
I think I'm over screen protectors.

what you need to do is just get the cheap screen protectors on ebay from hk. You can get like 3 of them for like 3 bucks. That is the route I usually go. Cant justify getting the so call premium screen protectors.
well, will know in a couple hours when the mail comes.
EDIT: It definitely was a surgical procedure to get this thing on just right, but oh man, it is AMAZING! You do need to rub off the glue on the front real good after you pull it away, but I actually like the feel of it compared to the screen. Can't even tell it is there!!!
One little tiny dust near an edge is all I can see. Maybe if I get too annoyed I will pry it up and use the dust removers (haha stickers). But it will probably just let more in.

When it arrives I'd be interested in knowing if it has a proximity sensor cutout.
From what I read they don't have it on all and id think with out software it would be rather important. (the phone shuts the screen off if it detects the sensor is covered.)

Zagg Glass Screen protector

So I had one of these put on my S7 today at BB, and there's a curve at the edge of the screen so it doesn't stick down, I thought the screen protector would relax but it has not. to top it off, after going into my pocket a few times, I've got dust/lint sticking to the edges of the screen protector. I think I might need to run without one for now and return this thing.
Anyway, I don't recommend the glass one, its nice, but it won't conform the the curve of the screen on the edges.
Zagg's website says they don't have a glass screen protector for the S7 yet. When they do it will be curved so it matches the screen. If you check they will even give you the option of having them email you when they get it in.

Here are the pics, luckily I still have my G3 lol.
Its already collecting lint and dust from my pocket, hasn't been 24 hours.
Can confirm. Went in yesterday and they had the Zagg for $35 and the Verizon version for $30. Went with the Verizon and have the same issue where the glass won't lay flat... Might have to go plastic instead.

Wow...that sucks...$35 and still deal with it not laying right! I guess I'm glad I bought a cheapie from eBay for $4.50. It has a halo, but I can't think of not protecting the screen on this beauty. I too will confirm the zagg glass ones do not fit well on the edges. I can also confirm that the zagg plastic "hdx defense" ones also do not sit 100% flat on the screen, the edges of it do not touch (but not as bad as the glass). I've had both on my S7 in the last 48 hours. I'll stick with this plastic crap for now since it covers better. But, they definitely need to fix that.

*cough* - uh - that's for the S7, not the S7 Edge, different product. Not surprised it doesn't fit correctly.
That's not even the correct screen protector. The one for the curves in called the "glass contour edge-to-edge", which you don't have because it isn't released yet.
Doesn't take a whole lot of effort to read their website before you purchase:
http://www.zagg.com/us/en_us/shop-by-device/galaxy-s7-accessories
Looks like he has the correct screen protector to me. He did say s7, not s7 edge.
Problem is, the s7's screen is also slightly curved, and so far it seems no one making these screen protectors is accounting for that. I've paid ($7 if memory serves) for BB to install glass shields before for this very reason. It's their bad if it doesn't stick properly and I'm not out the $40. I've watched them put 3-4 protectors on before, before finally getting one on right. If it doesn't work out, I wouldn't pay for it. I'd go back and get a refund. Especially if it's never going to fit correctly because Zagg released a premature product.
Seems to be a common theme for all protectors that have been released so far.

IF you get the otter box commuter series case it's design is flawed in how much the front edges of the phone just enough that when put on even after the 24-48 hour drying period of protector put on it conflicts with the edging of the protector and pushes it up the fight each other. the otter box Symmetry series how ever is designed just right and meets the edge of the protector and does not push on it what so ever. be cautious of case vs screen protector.

*cough* - uh - that's for the S7, not the S7 Edge, different product. Not surprised it doesn't fit correctly.

Hey I got some news for you, this is the S7 forum. That's why I posted here talking about the S7 screen protector. You're in the wrong place.

That's not even the correct screen protector. The one for the curves in called the "glass contour edge-to-edge", which you don't have because it isn't released yet.
Doesn't take a whole lot of effort to read their website before you purchase:

Yeah, how stupid of me to assume the screen protector they had, which was labeled for the phone they were selling me would fit. I would have thought Zagg would have had the thing in advance to get it right.
Good grief. Try to help other people and catch hell for it.

Interesting, I went back yesterday and had them put an HD one on instead and they couldn't get it on straight and then when they tried to fix he got dirt and lint under it. After a half hour of watching the dude struggle with it I said the hell with it and returned it and am running without one right now until the correct one is ready.

Even though I have the 7 Edge, I did get the 7 for my daughter, so thanks for the heads up man. I'm sure others appreciate it as well. Cheers.
