[Q] Trying to boot into clockwork recovery but having problems... - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having problems getting into clockwork recovery. When I go to clockwork recovery, and click boot into recovery, it just goes to the samsung recovery, and not the clockwork recovery. This has happened before when I would try it, and when I did it a second time, it would load the clockwork recovery. I'm trying to get into the clockwork recovery to clear my battery stats, as I just flashed Bionix Froyo Obsidian V3.0. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to hit reinstall packages from the samsung recovery? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah just hit reinstall packages I read that with the new 2.2 roms its a lil bug no big deal it will be fixed. For me it reboots twice before heading into clock work! Hope I've helped.

Thanks for the reply , and I tried to use the "reinstall packages" and it goes through the installation, but brings me back to the samsung recovery console. I then tried to reboot the phone, and then tried again (using clockwork recovery console), but it still boots into the samsung recovery. This kind of scares me, because I flash my roms using this method. Any other ideas?

Thanks a million!!! I updated to a lower version, and tried to reboot into clockwork recovery, and when I hit update packages, it hung, so I had to reboot, then update to the latest version, and rebooted into recovery mode, hit update packages, and now I have my clockwork recovery back. Thank you so much.

Stock recovery starts instead of clockwork

Everything's been smooth so far in regards to my vibrant modification but I noticed something today that might cause problems in the future
Im running stock rom with kingxkernel 3 and ryans oclf
I can get into clockwork recovery through rom manager without a problem (that's how I've been doing it) but if I go into recovery mode using the hardware keys it brings me to the stock recovery..any suggestions? ??? I know in the very beginning I had to choose reinstall packages and then it showed up but I was afraid to do that again before asking in case it screws up my phone
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
clockwork recovery doesn't replace stock recovery on the vibrant.
If you manually enter recover, you have to do the "reinstall packages" part in the stock recovery which will then load the clockwork recovery.
Oh okay thanks for the reply!

yes, you still need the clockworkmod recovery file (aka update.zip) in order to load clockworkmod recovery.

[Q] what's wrong with my clock mod recovery?

I installed it through rom manager.
And every time I wanna go to recovery
It goes to the android recovery and not
clock mod's.
I also get a check sum error and it can open something
Can anyone plz tell me what's wrong?
Thanks
Did you follow the steps koush gave in his thread for CWR?
Installation instructions:
1.Download ROM Manager from the Market.
2.Flash Recovery.
3.Choose Vibrant as your phone.
4.Accept the Superuser prompt.
5.On the very FIRST boot of Clockwork, you may need to manually select "reinstall packages" if Clockwork does not start. You should only ever have to do this once. It will be automatic from then on.
6.Watch the backup go!

You probably tried to partition the internal memory with clockwork mod. I also had that same issue before my replacement vibrant came. Now I flashed alot of roms and my recovery still looks normal. Im so relieved.

I did that every single step even the re install through

But nothing
you opened rom manager, you selected to flash CWR, then you rebooted into recovery, then you reinstalled packages?
I've never heard anyone have an issue, just trying to make absolute certain you followed the steps before we try anything else.

Currently running 2.2 update from kies any suggestion? I want to flash the phone with the new team whisky mod.
I followed the steps s15274n gave and when I try to re-install the packages I get..
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Are you sure ur phone is rooted. Clockwork recovery wont work until its rooted. For some strange reason everytime I go back to stock to flash a new rom I have to do a full sd wipe. Even when the update.zip file is there for root there's something that on the card that wont let me root until after I completely wipe the sd card.

These steps also do not work for me. When running "reinstall package" it will see the new update.zip file but does not load it. It skips it and just boots back into the standard blue recovery mode. I have flashed and re-flashed about a hundred time. I even tried older flashes of clockwork.
I installed 2.2 through Samsung Kies.

Bingo. You need to be running either 2e, or a modded 3e. Cwm is useless without one of those.

Rom Manager/ClockworkMod

Hi guys,
I just downloaded Rom Manager today. I was successful with "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery'. I wanted to flash Nero v3. I rebooted the phone by holding both volume buttons and power button at the same time. I get into the
2e recovery (blue screen). But I read that i needed to be in the green recovery screen to flash the rom. Also someone in the forum said try, 'reinstalling packages', but that didn't do anything. After a few times trying to reinstalling packages, i noticed that Titanium backup and Superuser Permissions FC all the time.
I'm not sure what I did wrong? Did I over do it with the reinstall packages? Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks inadvance.
Push the nero v3 rom to the root of ur sd card, and then select the install rom from sd card option from ROM manager and select the file and thats it..the phone boots into recovery and the flashing starts..

He's asking how to go into Clockwork first haha, your idea may work, but sometimes, it needs to go into the regular blue screen recovery no matter what to go into the clockwork.

Check your SD Card, be sure you have a zip called update.zip, thats where the clockwork is stored.
What exactly is happening when you press reinstall packages? like nothing?
Usually, mine does this it boots into the blue screen recovery then i select reinstall packages, then it reboots back to blue screen, and this time when i press reinstall packages, it turns black for half a second and then goes into clockwork.
If you could explain it in more detail of whats happening, then i'd be happy to help you, it may be that your update.zip is corrupted?
try the idea of the guy above as well, it might help.

UPDATE
I ended up having to odin back to stock, rooted, download Rom manager and 'flashclockwork recovery. I was then able to flash to nero 3 with voodoo!

clockwork failed to verify whole-file signature

I was using 2e recovery to make a nandroid back up, then went back into recovery to flash a mod but Rom manager didn't boot into recovery right. A exclamation mark pops up in a triangle, then nothing happens until i press the home button and recovery but with this error "failed to verify whole-file signature". Now i can't use cwm to flash anything. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Had same issue with the verification, this is how I ended up fixing mine.
1. Odin with "froyo no brick eugene", and the pit
2. Place CWR on sd card, reinstall updates may have to do this process twice till you boot into CWR, if verification error do the following.... place the
CWR voodoo recovery on. Rename "update.zip" and go about it this way.
3. Once in recovery you should be able to flash any rom, as usual wipe data/factory reset, cache, davlik. Should be good to go, Voodoo CWR has helped me, been through this process twice.
Had this problem also. Try using hardware keys for recovery instead of ROM manager. It happened with eugene gingerclone r2. I think it's because the cwm recovery on the kernel and the update.zip are two different versions.
Hello,
I am on a Samsung Galaxy S (original rom) with froyo.xwjpa and i can't get clockwork to work. ("failed to verify whole-file signature") Kernel: 2.6.32.9 (rooted phone with lagfix)
What to do?
I tried the update.zip via the 3 button method and via the "ROM Manager" (clockworkmod 2.5.1.2)
(I want to flash my phone with the "Darkys_V8.0_Gingerbread_Edition_Wipe")
[RESOLVED]
I went from the Unofficial Froyo to Macnut R14 to Obsidian v4.2 and now to Nero v3. I had this problem on Obsidian, I forced into recovery by holding down the volume buttons and the power button then let go after the vibrant logo is shown twice, then flashed a new ROM and it worked, so after switching ROM's (Nero 3), clockwork is working now. I really don't know why it wasn't working, I was unable to flash any mods, themes, or kernels but a ROM worked.
EDIT:

I'm not to knowledgeable about the I9000 Samsung Galaxy S, even though the Vibrant should be identical except for the FFC and ROM, but you can try this:
Did you try disabling your lagfix?
If not then give that a try. If that doesn't do it, uninstall ROM Manager, then reinstall it, open ROM Manager, reflash clockwork, I believe the newest version is 2.5.1.3, then try the 3 button method.
I have the same problem too (using 3e recovery).
Tried pressing the vol + power keys to get into recovery mode, but still getting "failed to verify whole-file signature"
Pls help...
I just rooted my stock Froyo Vibrant and installed ROM Manager so this is a brand new setup. No other ROMs installed. I am getting the E:failed to verify whole-file signature error with no luck.
Tried the following:
-Reinstalling ROM Manager and selecting "Flash Clockwork Recovery"
-Rebooting using "Reboot into Recovery" - I get stock recovery text
-Selecting "reinstall packages"
-I get the error above
-Turn off phone and use Vol Up + Vol Down + Power to boot into stock recovery
-Select "reinstall packages"
-Same error
I want to flash the Bionix-v ROM, but I want to get a nandroid backup first since I've already bricked a Vibrant before with no backup.
Any help would be appreciated!
Here, this should do it, @ the part where you Reinstall Packages, you might have to do it twice if it brigs you into stock recovery again.

Flashing Recovery: Doesn't stick

I've tried flashing recovery via Odin and CWM Recovery and it will reboot into recovery just fine. However, when I let it reboot into android, turn it off, and then go back into recovery, CWM is gone. The phone, however, stays rooted.
Any idea what could be wrong or how to fix this?
Secondly, if I can get into CWM immediately after flashing, is it safe to flash a new ROM at that point or do I need to get CWM to stick first?
Anyone? Any suggestions at all will be appreciated

Sure... You can flash a rom immediately following the flash of cwm.... Did you also install busy box?
Which cwm are you trying to use? 5.8.4.7 seems to do me good....?

Before your phone boots after installing cwm in Odin do a battery pull then boot into recovery (Volume Up+Home+power) then flash your superuser/root package. It will stick then.

I tried using that CWM version as well as an older one. Both work and I can get busy box and superuser installed once it boots up. But when I power down and try to go back into recovery, CWM is gone. I do get to keep root though.

I tried unchecking the auto-reboot button on Odin 4 and 7, and going that route. Both allow me to get into CWM, where I try to flash the recovery v5.zip. Still doesn't stick unfortunately.
