WIFI not working - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi
my wifi used to work fine before 1.6 last update which was 26 after that i couldnt connect to any network and wifi was connecting/disconnecting (no optaining ip status) however i still could see networks around me. after updating to 2.1 my wifi broke and now its not working at all it doesnt even scan and sometimes msg pops up saying "unable to scan for networks" . i tried deleteing wpa_supplicant.conf in /data/misc/wifi/ but it didnt help, also when i type ifconfig tiwlan0 in terminal emulator, it says no such device.

i tried other wifi spots but still i got same results.. what seems to be the problem? do u think its hardware issues? i can detect all the wifi connections available but once i got connected, i cant browse or use the market. is it hardware?
also to add to the problem, i tried the bluetooth, i cant receive files but i can send files to others..
i think best way is to flash another ROM .. Wipe everything before you flash & see it it works otherwise flash Radio if you not having latest one Radio for Hero GSM Then i think VillainROM Guys are having you can check their forums ..and try that
i think i have issues with my wifi at home.. because when i try public wifi's i can connect to some but i also cant to some free wifi. which is weird. i have a wildfire before and this was not an issue for me
Last year I had a similar problem that I fixed by assigning my hero a static ip address. For some reason dhcp did not work.
Strangely enough I don't have that problem anymore.
Back then I had stock 1.5 OS. Now I have every ROM. Well, you know what I mean.

This could very well be an issue with your router firmware. Some routers are just plain ****ty.
Can you maintain a connection without any encryption (WEP,WPA,WPA2,etc)?

Try connecting using ; WPS. There's a button on your router. from the point of pressing you have two minutes to connect. Try it and lemme know.

Wifi seeing router - not internet but on data works perfectly - help

Hi All
Having a spot of bother tonight
Randomly my SG2 could not access the internet through my router.
It sees my router, no problem there. I can switch off wifi and get online with my data but not through wifi.
I had been using it all day but it just randomly stopped tonight and my router is working perfectly as my laptop and other phone is connected.
I have restored 3 different Roms which were up to two weeks old in some cases. Also flashed 3 kernels and 3-4 modems
On ICS Stock rooted LP7 with CF root LP7 kernel
Not sure what else to try so any help would be appreciated
I have searched and tried everything I can so if you can help, thank you.
Search in original android development in checkrom thread, 2 days ago somebody put a zip file to fix wi fi issue, like yours. It's called Wi Fi fix. Search and you'll find

Thanks Gregory
I tried it, but unfortunately it didnt work for me but I appreciate your help.
after flashing it, I couldnt even turn on wifi at the toggles or menu so I am doing a restore now and hopefully it will work.
I am not sure if doing a complete restore to stock firmware again will work.
Really dont know how this wifi issue so randomly appeared
Was your phone getting a DHCP address from the router or not ? on ICS, that happens when you get the popup message "Connected to XXXX".

Hi Vaxxi
If I dont understand what you are asking correctly, sorry.
the phone is receiving an I.P., gateway, dns, etc. each time I log on.
I can see that wifi connectivity is active but nothing is working despite clearing caches, doing restores, etc.
the problem started randomly
Yes, I was asking if it gets an IP through DHCP. Sometimes it gets stuck and you have to remove a file manually in order to refresh the IP address, but your problem seems to be somewhere else. Can you ping your phone from the router after it gets an IP address ?

thanks for your help Vaxxi
I cant get near my router tonight unfortunately
I can 'see' it through 'Fing' app but if I try to use speedtest.net app to see if I have data, I get nothing.
I think I will try another stock flash again with LP7 stock, but I doubt it will work.

Note: Fixed.
I did all the above to no avail.
Ended up reflashing the router firmware, not sure if this directly helped but upon reboot, my phone connected as usual but now had internet access again.
Strange as prior to flashing the firmware everything except my phone could avail of net access.
Thanks to each of you that helped.
im having the exact same issue. I have reflashed router firmware also but still nothing. Wifi symbol is there but not blue (cm9) data works perfect. Im also starting to wonder if its my router.
I have tried wiping all settings etc. Um currently downloading latest nightly so hopefully that does the trick!!

I had the same problem when I switched from a 16gb to a 32gb version.
I restored a backup but couldn't connect to wifi. A factory reset solved the problem for me but I see you've already tried that.

The password you entered is correct and the Fritzbox isn't using any MAC filter i assume?
Connect your phone to the computer and open adb shell
Kill any process named wpa_supplicant and type:
Code:
wpa_supplicant -dd -i wlan0 -f /sdcard/wifi.log -c /etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
Then attach the generated logfile after having tried connecting to a wifi network.
Alternatively you can run "wpa_cli" and show it's output.

No i tried everything now but still not working! So i explain my router is down stairs, i am on the second floor! He sees my network but can't connect saying authentication error! When i go near the router about 3-4meters it connects to my network and i can access the net without problems! Now i am at my friends home and my galaxy s3 connects near the router but when i go in an other room it remains connected to the wifi but no internet connection an after a while he disconnects automatically!
I suppose if it where an hardware problem it wouldn't find the network at all or am i wrong with that?

Well it sounds like Wifi power management fails.
But please, respond to my last post by executing:
su
wpa_cli
And then connect to the wifi network.
(Wifi must aleady be enabeld but not connected for it to work)
Then post the output
After finding that another location WiFi was also not working I wiped phone flashed stock rooted restored Nandroid . Result works but yet to test sleep and lose WiFi problem if its still there.

Are you able to try to connect? Mine will have a notification for open wifi networks found but when you click it only the networks restored show up - and only the networks restored are all I can connect to.
I don't know about you, but this is BY FAR the worst Android device I've ever owned, perhaps mine is defective. I was out of town 9 days and couldn't return it and they won't extend it 3 days to take it back. This is about 20th Android device and the first that I truly hate. It drops calls FAR more than my other phones (all Sprint, so not network, 5 lines).
i am very happy with my device!!! the unique problem is the wifi!! i think it's hardware!!!! here in luxembourg it takes more than 15 days when you give it to the warranty!!!! ;( that's driving me crazy

I told you several times already what you need to do to get the needed informations so one can see what the issue is.
My Wifi is rock-stable since I'm running on Cyanogenmod (currently 10), had some issues on OmegaROM before.

I honestly prefer having it sent in than Tango trying to tinker with it seeing their record of malinformed advice they tried to give me in the past.

When i try to run
wpa_supplicant -dd -i wlan0 -f /sdcard/wifi.log -c /etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
it just lists the help without telling me what it does not like. I have tried lost of variants based on that help text as well. The interface is wlan0 and the conf file is named and located as detailed.
wpa_cli
does not exist.
I have been fighting with bad wifi for over a week. I have tried countless wipes , factory resets , format partitions , odin's to different ICS stock roms including bootloader and even wipe efs on occasion out of desperation. Power saving mode does not help, and I have tried about 15 different access points.
I think at this stage its hardware, but don't have a spare phone to use while it goes for repair. Got one lined up to borrow, but it wont be available for a few weeks. So in the mean time i would like to dig further. Currently on the latest Jelly Leak. But the issue is there on all roms. I'm happy to flash something else if it helps with getting some logs.
Any pointers or ideas would greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Wifi unable to obtain IP

The phone P769 was working fine, I factory reset it . After that, wifi keeps having " obtaining IP " from different routers/networks then disconnect. During the "obtaining IP " I can ping the phone from another device. I already try to reset router and the phone again. Any idea ? TIA
Your WiFi maybe be going out. I doubt that a system file got corrupt. You maybe having issues with busybox. Sounds like busybox replaced a toolbox applet. Just guessing mostly
