Hello... I have updated to Android 2.1... and now I want to install thickbuttons as my keboard... normally I just press 123? button for a few seconds and then I have the chance to change my Keyboard...
But now in Android 2.1 when I press that the emoticon palette appears... does anyone know how to change this??
Thank you all in advanced
I am having the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I wanted to switch my keyboard to Swype, I had to long-press on the text box itself (where your words appear) to be able to choose my keyboard. Hope this helps.

How can i change the default keyboard? I liked android default one, using 2.1 now
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Easy.
Just install which keyboard you want.
Go to Definitions > text and language > and enable that keyboard.
Now try to write a message. Long press in the text box and choose Input Method and choose your new keyboard.

Hi guys,
Now that Dell have bundled Swype with their new 2.2, I was wondering if we would be able to get updates and stuff for Swype? In the past, I've had a go on versions of swype that had an extra page that would have a full arrow pad (really missing the arrow keys and NUM pad in 2.2) as well as CUT and PASTE buttons which I thought was amazing, so ultimately I'm hoping we could get something similar for 2.2. So would it be possible to get updates of Swype or is there a way of modding the one now to have this extra page of buttons?
Cheers
Swype from the swype button, bottom left, to the SYM key next to it.

WOW, I could I have missed that? lol
I missed having the arrow key on the old keyboard too. Didnt care very much for the number pad however. This is perfect.
Thank you.
Touch the SYM button, then hold the ABC button that it turns into will give you a keypad.

Wow....thanks p_razzi, I knew about the page with the keypad but I did not know about Swyping the Swype icon and SYM. Thanks dude!
can someone extract the apk for swype & upload it so I can try it on my 2.1

I want to give a Thanks for this post but the option isn't there.
Is that because of its age?
This thread shows how to update to the latest version of swype that is for the streak http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009673
Is it possible to remove the other languages this time around? On standard Swype, you could simply deselect the languages available in settings. Now, it simply has the option to switch between English and Spanish. I accidentally hit the key sometimes, but never use Spanish--so, any way to remove the option completely?

+1 for this request. Accidentally hitting languages I never use is quite annoying.
Hold down on the language button and uncheck Spanish. The language button will still be there, but when you hit it the keyboard won't switch to Spanish... nothing will happen.
Or you could install a different version of Swype.
This is how it used to be, but Unnamed 1.2.0 uses an updated version of Swype which does not have the uncheck ability--only selecting.

? I just did what I suggested on 1.2. You can still unselect languages.

Not sure if you're using a different version of Swype on 1.2, but on mine I most certainly can't uncheck languages. Instead, it shows the green circle to the right, where you simply choose which language you want.

That's exactly how mine looks. Can't get rid of other language either in the swype keyboard via long press or in keyboard settings.
I saw this in Galaxy ace..
Swype is what you know
and voice input for texting email and whatsapp and all..cant seem able to find it
ANd im not talking about google voice...or siri for android...
When i long press on the box in messages..>> Input method..i only have keyboard..cnt we change that??
Samsung and SE Xperia phones are different, these have different keyboards.
Xperia phones do not have voice input by default, but swiping from letter to letter does exist.
Ok by default we dont get..but cant we get a mod for it on se ???

Search in Market, there are lots of keyboard apps, I think SwiftKey X supports voice input.

you dont need a mod. there are other keyboards that have both voice input and swype input. such as, default gingerbead keyboard

it does have and im using it right now on my phone
your arguement is invalid
edit: my mistake, i do not meant se gb keyboard, but samsung default gb keyboard
I had a problem with pre-loaded Swype with voice input as well. Was using version 2.70.75.22679.22684.471.I9000M which came pre-installed, the voice input button on the Swype keyboard didn't work at, but did work on the Samsung keypad (other default keyboard).
perhaps this is what OP is referring to.
I have recently un-installed the pre-loaded version and installed the latest beta, which is 3.26 right now. The voice input mic button is now the 'Dragon' logo. Seems to work well most times, but does NOT work with search fields. (such as in most browsers)
The google search bar widget with google voice input does work though, but I hate having to go find that if i want to search in a browser via voice input
Hello,
How can one make a custom keyboard that could be choosen as input method (aka Samsung Keyboard, Swype, Sixaxis)?
Is there any way to just load up a custom image, and then inside the app just configure that this area of the screen is for example A button, Space button etc?
