So i want to get rid of Obsidian V2 , the GPS doesn't work for me and its getting on my nerves. I looking at the direction to flash a new rom but for some reason I went into clockwork recovery found the new zip folder, click it, it reboots back to Obsidian V2 again. The new zip is axura201.
Is there something I'm doing wrong I'm following method 1 of flashing roms, I'm just trying to get rid of this rom and replace it with a rom with working GPS and flash.

Make sure to flash the ClockworkMod Recovery first. Then reboot into recovery and flash your zip in there. Also it helps to clear cache first as well once in recovery.

Im sorry if this has been covered, ive spent the last 2 days reading the Vibrant bible thread and also over on Cyanogen site and Android spin and im really frustrated with how often my device soft bricks.
i have 5 roms on my internal SD card and Rom manager running. i was able to use the option to install form SD card no problem for 4 roms and the 5th one was one called Hybrid R4 and when it rebooted into the clockwork recovery and performed the format and update then it rebooted into the Vibrant logo for 5 min. i removed the battery and rebooted so many times and same thing.
this is the 3rd time this has happened and its so annoying even more so because i know i have a good ROM on the internal SD card i can load up again but i cant get to it because i cant get into clockwork because i keep getting the stock samsung recovery screen with limited options resulting in having to use ODIN to flash the stock firmware and start over.
when i had my Mytouch i had a permanent recovery flashed to the device so i neve rhad to do this. are the Vibrants not able to have a alternate recovery console flashed to it?
which rom are you flashing over? It sounds like you are going from a 2.2 froyo rom. Hybrid R4 is from the time before the Devs started including Kernels with their roms. If you want to flash a 2.1 rom thats doesn't include the kernel over a 2.2 rom you need to flash a 2.1 kernel first. Search the bible for kingklicks kernel or Justanothercrowds kernels. Good luck.
Edit: also when you flash clockworkmod recovery in rom manager, it places a special update.zip in your root directory. leave it there. when you soft brick all you need to do in the samsung stock recovery is reinstall packages (sometimes needs to be done twice) and it will load clockworkmod recovery.
and they can have clockwork permanently flashed but it sometimes causes other problems. Eugene373 has a few kernels for 2.2 that have it permanently flashed, but it caused me issues when trying to flash another rom over it where i had no recovery at all, not even samsungs.
I am trying to put Clockwork Recovery on the Vibrant and when I first boot it I need to manually select "reinstall packages". I usually have to do this two times in a row and then it boots into the cw recovery. But when I reboot into the recovery it boots back into the samsung recovery and I have to select "reinstall packages" again to get into cw. This isn't normal correct? I saw that I should only have to do this once and then it should boot into cw recovery everytime with no problems. The phone came with 2.2 stock.
In my experience with stock roms, i have to hit re-install packages twice to go to clockwork recovery.
Well what I am wondering is do you have to do that everytime you want to go into the recovery? Also could that possibly affect the phone to where I would not be able to restore it back to factory if something were to go wrong if I flashed a new ROM?
i assume you have rom manager right? You can do select reboot into recovery so that it will bring you straight to clockwork mod recovery. Also there's an app called "quick boot", that can make you go to recovery or download mode faster.
And no that won't affect anything when you want to flash another rom.
Your fine. Recovery will not effect going to back to stock because odin overrides all. Like the other guy said when your using a stock rooted rom you almost always have to hit it twice. Flash a custom rom and it will always go into recovery with out a hitch.

Ok, thank you for your help. I didn't know if it was having a problem or something.
Sorry for the bump, but I didnt want to start a new thread.
I'm having this same problem, but reinstalling the packages isnt working. I've done it 3 or 4 times

This should help you out.
Thanks for the link. I decided it is probably a better idea just to get a new kernal. My vibrant has andriod 2.1.1 right now. I read elsewhere that custom kernals come with clockwork recovery, plus that would eliminate any problems with my current kernal and the 2.2.1 ROM I am about to flash... Right?
Just need a guide for it.
Edit: I'm trying this. How long is it supposed to take?
Edit2: it failed when it trys to stop the adb server.
I have a fascinate that's rooted. I downloaded ROM manager attempting to flash a different ROM and i keep getting the signature verification failed because im on the 3e recovery...

rom manager is useless for the fascinate unless your on cm7 nightly.so don't use it to flash anything.
You need a non stock kernel ready to go on your sd card so recovery doesn't get overwritten on boot by the stock kernel.then you need to odin recovery and three finger boot into recovery and flash the kernel then and there or you will never get the proper recovery to flash anything rom or otherwise...go to the dev section and read the first couple stickies...they should get you on the right track but I would get more familiar with flashing stuff before you go to cm7/miui/or aosp...they can be tricky to recover from if you screw something up

Agreed with opinion about rommanager.
Rom manager was not smooth for roms before CM7.
Use odin for flashing CWM and any other roms.
It's simple.
I have a rooted Galaxy Tab 10.1 wifi GT-P7510 with CWM
I flashed ROM Starburst ROM and the 1.4Ghz Overclocking kernel for Touchwiz UX.
Shortly after this I started have erratic battery behavior. I was not able to resolve this after trying many of the fixes I founds here. I decided to go back to the stock ROM and kernel.
I download hc-3.1_ota-full_sam_tab_10.1.zip and hc-3.1_touchwiz_ux-full_sam_tab_10.1.zip.
I first tried to install hc-3.1_touchwiz_ux-full_sam_tab_10.1.zip.
and received the following error:
ASSERT FAILED
getprop("ro.bootloader")=="P7100BUKB7"||getprop("ro.bootloader")=="P7100BUKC8"
I then tried hc-3.1_ota-full_sam_tab_10.1.zip and received a similar error:
getprop("ro.bootloader")=="P7100BUKB7" E:error in /sdcard/hc-3.1_ota-full_sam_tab_10.1.zip
I did Factory Reset/Wipe, wipe cache and then wipe dalvick cache.
Navigated to install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard
How can I get back to the stock ROM?
Right now I have it working on the starburst ROM without the overclocking kernel. I still have excessive drain ion the battery.
I want to get back to stock in case I have to send this off to samsung for repair.
Thank you for any assistance you can offer.
I have the same error on a Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi I just purchased. Is a wipe absolutely needed? The error seems to be with the ZIP file.
im getting that error and another error. i can reflash the overcome rom. but i jst want to get back to stock. i hear re-rooting works. going to try thattonight. if i come across a fixill post.
Have you reverted the kernel ?
If not, I would start there first.
revert the kernel? how do you do that?
I have had the same errors come up. I reflashed clockwork recovery with odin and after that, problems went away. This has only happened to me if i use rom manager to go into recovery, happens a couple of times.

Personally I haven't messed with flashing kernels. I would recommend that you head back to the thread where you got the kernel from and start from there. I would imagine that there are instructions, or someone could help you.
OK, I reccomend never using ROM manager it's wonky on our tabs, just boot into recovery with the button combo or the power menu if your ROM has it.
The steps you should take to get back to stock.
I you made a nandroid backup of your stock ROM flash that.
Try re-downloading the stock ROM zips (you may have gotten a bad download)
If those fail.
Flash the new version of Clockwork Mod found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090289
(sorry the link button was giving me grief.)
It's an ODIN flash should be pretty simple. Then try again to flash the stock .zip
Unfortunately this may not resolve your battery issue. For help with that go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1215182
Good Luck!
Ok guys heres the deal....i recently got a samsung fascinate from my sister cause I couldnt mod my inc any more. ok so....i got the phone rooted. i have su perm. i downloaded rom manager and installed it. now heres my problem. i can preform a backup no problem, but when i go to restore that backup it boots into clockwordmod and begins and then get an error about erasing boot img. or something like that. can tell exactly if i get some help from this. also cant install custom roms like i can with my incredible. i know it can be done cause i see roms and all for this phone. can someone please please help me.
Thats because cwm3 will not perform nandroid restores on stock roms. You need to flash cwm 2.5.1.x red recovery. Its the best recovery imo for any bml(touchwiz) rom. Go over to my guide in general section and you cand find cwm 2.5 in section 2&5. Oh and ditch rom manager...manually install cwm via odin!
If you're coming from an incredible, also keep in mind you don't have to be rooted to flash roms either, you just have to have a custom recovery. There aren't really any modifications like rooting procedures, S-OFF, etc, required for rom flashing, just odin a recovery and flash your selected rom.
