During these months I always searched for a solution to the very well known issues that plagued our Folios without finding something really useful, but now the game is over (so I hope). Let's see how:
The problem(s):
-Foliomod 1.4 (thanks Dexter, you made my day when I discovered it), is the best rom you can find ATM for the Folio table: it's fast, it's smooth and really stable, and it's based on the last Toshiba rom. But it suffers from a couple of major issues that make it less than perfect (all the issues are from the original Toshiba rom, Dexter did not add anything). These issues are the SOD (sleep of death) that make the device never go out from standby (you have to reboot to regain control of the device) and frequent spontaneous wakeups from standby that make your battery drain quickly when you put the tablet in hibernate mode.
The solution:
The solution is based on a mix of magics with a little bit of luck (only to say that what is working for me, can work for you too, or cannot work at all: I give no warranty!)
Download and install the following software from market:
- SETCPU
- SCREEN OFF (by techvision systems)
- BATTERY GUARDIAN
Now, in setcpu, configure the system as Tegra2 and raise the min clock to 608mhz and tick "Set on Boot". This will help with SOD.
After that, put a shortcut on your homescreen for the "Screen Off" app.
Then, go to Preferences and set the device to never go to sleep in display options.
From now, you'll use only the shortcut to the "Screen Off" app to put the device to sleep, and you'll use the power button only to wakeup the tablet. You'll notice that you have to press power button three or four times before the device really comes out from sleep, but it will never fail.
Finally, reboot the device to activate Battery Guardian (it's a little daemon that closes all network connections when the device is in standby, and reactivates all the connections on wakeup).
Ok you are ready to go. My tablet is really perfect with these mods, I hope the best for you too, but remember that what's working for me, could work or not for you: don't blame me if this doesn't suit your needs.
My Folio wakes up only when I need it, and it gave no SOD in one week of intense use. Post your feedbacks, please...
Thanks for share it with us, i will try.
Thanks for sharing.
I don´t have foliomod instaled but i gave it a go on cyanogen 7 and screen off works ( have to use power button 3 ou 4 times to wake up, but works) , battery guardian didn´t work (after wake up it won´t connect to wifi until i clean my wifi password , insert it again and connect manualy).
As nothing to do with foliomod but i wanted to share with everyone .

The SOD mode is wrong in the Foliomod 1.3d?

Foliomod 1.3d is not different from 1.4 under this aspect. The kernel is older and some app FC randomatically. The only reason to keep it is 3G support.

I tried this and found it
Problem is that the Folio says that it can't download it...
Can someone make a backup of the app and post it here or at a fileshare?
Try downloading with dolphin browser or opera
I have a question !
It's really necessary to have installed battery guardian ?? I want to be noticed with a sound if I have a new notification. Folio is going to deep sleep if i don't install battery guardian too ?
Hi guys!
I'm a new (proud?) folio owner, and so far I've tried FolioMod1.4 and FolioTNT1.0, but I've been seeing wifi problems, SOD and sometimes random freezes, and random wakeups from sleep.
1. I've downloaded the app called "CPU Master Free" which allows changing the minimum and maximum frequencies (as a replacement of SetCPU).
2. I've disabled the "screen timeout" in settings->display (I guess that was what was meant by display sleep in the OP)
3. Installed "Screen Off" to turn off the screen
Seems like it works, except that I guess the battery life is decreased by a lot as the device is running at the lowest running at 3x the minimal frequency.. (I get around 5h usage with screen at 50% + Wifi + Browsing)
I've also read that the SOD is a driver issue, and nvidia has released an update which "fixes" it... Anyone knows anything about that?
Another issue I've noticed with TNT is that a USB mouse does not work. The cross appears in the middle of the screen but it cant be moved. (This worked fine in FolioMod1.4)
Anyway, the rest of the system is prettyyyy sweet! Thanks for all the great work

When the tablet is in hibernate state wifi is disabled, so youl'll get no notification for new emails. For all the other notifications (alarms, calendar and so on), battery guardian has nothing to do with them, as it only closes network connections. And yes, hibernate works without battery guardian too, but I noticed frequent unwanted wakeups without it.
Yesterday I configured my Folio exactly as described in the first post.
So far so good and all works well, but it seems, that this configuration drains the battery quickly and the battery was empty after 9hrs of standby (from 65 percent remaining).
Anyone got a solution for that, i.e. extending the standby time?
Something strange happened to my phone. One night I installed an app that can turn the phone into sleep mode instead of pressing the button at the uppermost right of it. I still have around 70+% battery by that time. The next morning, I was surprised that my battery is already out. I charge it but was stuck at the cyanogen logo. I removed the battery and tried to open it, this time the animation boot happened twice before finishing. I removed the app but noticed that my battery begun draining much faster than before. Just letting it on idle state will reduce it to 40% in 9 hours. The bootup problem is also present every time I boot the phone - it will get stuck at first at the logo, remove the battery, turn it on again where the animation will happen twice before the phone become usable.
Checking the phone usage, mobile standby and phone idle have the largest usage. I read some threads mentioning something about wakelock or something that prevent the phone from going to sleep. Checking the Spare parts battery history, only two things are present - Running (100%) and Screeon on (5.1%).
Any help or tips to know the real problem? Thanks

this will happen when install every crappy tweak **** - i'm not understand why users have to install extra apps for buttons
to help you something:
wipe your system, not the data - only if it doesnt work after wiping the caches.
than try to boot ... if its doesnt nrmal booting, reinstall the rom and do a full wipe. sometimes apps installing libraries in system.
^
I was thinking of reducing the usage of the hard button so I used it. Will resintallation of the ROM afefct my partition? I have a nandbackup before this problem happened, but I still do not have the partition by that time.
And how do you do it by the way? Just flash again the ROM? Thanks
Edit: Wiping the cache seemed to help. It doesn't stuck at the logo, but the animation still happens twice instead of once. Gonna observe the battery usage. Thanks.
100% running, that means your phone is not in sleep, but only with LCD off. Grab betterbatterystats([email protected]) and check your wakelocks.

I copid a gpa.conf somehere in this forum. I replaced it with the originial and I'm currently observing whether it will return to normal. My gps apps are off, and both wireless and gps sattelites are disabled on my location & security tabs.
I'm planning on doing a restore to at least remove the boot up problem. But my last nandbackup was still before I partitioned my sd card and flashed dark tremor, and configre a2sdgui. If I do the nandrestore, do I have to disable or remove dark tremor and a2sdgui, or remove the partition of my card? Thanks

I has the same gps wakelock even disabling GPS- reboot and the thing is gone
I changed it, but my phone still doesn't sleep. Although this time, the gpslocationprovider is no longer shown with the betterbatterystats. It just states that my phone is awake for around 47 minutes but my screen is just on for around 4 minutes. I've already rebooted several times and wipe the cache but its still like this. Still trying to find other ways.
Sorry for posting another AlarmManager wakelock thread, but I have spent quite a lot of time reading through the other threads with no luck. The problem is, I am a complete newbie when it comes to smartphones and computers. I do not understand how to run adb, get alarmmanager dump files etc etc.
Main threads I tried:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 (Better Battery Stats)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684932
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212671
And many many more. Please note I didn't know any of the steps below when I started trying to fix this, so there might be some steps I included which will seem ridiculously stupid and obvious for most of you reading this...
What I have done so far:
1. Downloaded BetterBatteryStats, left it running overnight, and got the results:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1349107&stc=1&d=1348437812
2. Tried to run adb as per one of the threads here. It said run this code...
Code:
adb shell dumpsys alarm > AlarmManager.txt
3. Installed Android SDK as per this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVXX-YdhRU0
4. Ran adb on cmd, and when I type adb, a bunch of text appears (which Im guessing means it's installed properly)
5. I connected my phone to computer. Also made sure my device is connected by updating drivers, enabling usb debugging mode, etc as per this site http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9899584/enable-usb-debugging-on-android. Typed in "adb devices" on cmd, and it shows a long string of numbers and charactes, followed by the word "device". (I am guessing this means my phone is connected)
6. Ran the code on step 2. Nothing happens. The cmd window just goes to next line. No error message or anything, but there is no alarmdump.txt file on my /sdcard drive.
7. Tried running the corresponding code on GScript Lite as per one of the threads here.
- If I disable "needs su", it autocloses after 20 secs and says "permission denial: can't dump alarmmanager..."
- If I enable "needs su", it just stays there without closing for a long time. Nothing happens
At this point, I have spent about 5 hours looking at threads from everywhere with no results. I would appreciate any help at all with this issue
PS: My phone is unrooted. I wouldn't even know how to begin rooting...
PSS: In the BBS dump file, it also says wifi was turned on for 2h. (I woke up and it was turned on). But I am definitely sure I turned it off when I slept. Maybe AlarmManager is not actually the problem? Rather some app that turns on wifi?
nothing seems unusual on your dump except go locker maybe...when the screenturns on whats on it?some msg?or just lights up then goes dim again?

Yes, it just lights up and goes dim. There's no message or notification or anything.
Is AlarmManager not unusual? The count says 1423, which I am guessing means it woke the screen up 1423 times overnight?
If its not AlarmManager that is the problem, maybe I will change the thread title then.
Another fact that I forgot to add in is wifi seems to have been turned on for 2h overnight. But I was sleeping the whole time :S So I am not sure how that happened. I will add this in the original post also...
I will also create another bbs dump to see if anything changes

AlarmManager does not mean the screen woke up 1423 lol, that would be crazy. What it does mean is things are running in the background. For example, Beautiful Widgets will set off an alarm to refresh the weather every 3 hours in my case. Android will set off its own alarm to turn on the led each time you get a message or whatsapp etc. Almost every app has an alarm tied to it so Alarm Manager will always be pretty high. Your screen turning on randomly......I have no idea. I would do a full data wipe and see if it keeps happening. Must be an app causing it to happen
Try un installing go locker see if that still happens

seems to be a jb thing and I spent a bit of time trying to pin down what caused it, but each time I drew a blank, but I got rid of it.....and I have kept my eyes open but I remember GM starting in his kernel thread that even he couldn't pin down what it was.
Apologies for not having a solution, but you can get rid of it

that's the thing.....I'm really not sure at all, something in my set up, something I froze with titanium, some sound setting, I really don't know,, I don't use haptic or touch sounds, so that might be linked, but beating in mind if I had tried one thing at a time, then used bbs and let it idle for two hours each time I tried something,I would be at it forever,
I'm dual booting slim and wanamlite, so even more complicated
Sorry to be so vague but I really can't pin it down!

From my testing with my stock rom and communicating with the Dev from Better Battery Stats a month ago or so, I don't believe the statistic AudioOut_1 or AudioOut_2 is the cause for any battery drain. (at least not for me) You see them listed under Partial Wakelocks but the "count" increases every time certain UI sounds are triggered even with the screen ON! So it's a bit misleading...because the OS implies that the counts are increasing during standby.....hence the term Partial Wakelock.
And YES...by disabling Keytones and Touch Sounds etc., the statistic is eliminated and BBS will not show an increase. So basically...I IGNORE THIS STATISTIC...and keep my sounds turned ON!
As a test, I suggest you to disable this feature of the phone (go to Settings - Manage Applications and disavle apps Google Text to Speech and Samsung TTS).

See I would agree with you but when you turn and disable everything you have to your phone should be allowed to enter deep sleep. under the partial wakelock the audioOut_2 is the only thing not allowing it to enter thus if you look at all the all the apps you have running and some apps run like the sound is on even with the screen off. My problem was puzzle and dragons would run the sound and drain my battery and when i exit it the audio problem stops. So to answer your question tony just empty your running apps when you get ready to turn your screen off and see if that helps.

Same for me. Normally my tablet eats 1 percent of battery max for a screen off hour. Today, I restarted, done a backup, booted the system and then I turned the screen off and went about my bussiness. Now, according to BBS, I have 3,5 percent down per hour. And the only "huge" wakelock is Audioout_2.

Same problem here on my note 2... last night before sleep time i killed all apps by holding down the home button.BBS clearly showed audio_out2 as the one which has the partial wakelocks... sigh... no solution yet?
on a side note in sound settings im not using sound and vibration. just keyones. screen lock sound and haptic fb.
Same problem here
All touchsounds disabled and AudioOut_2 did not stop to drain my battery. Maybe it's time to switch to BlackBerry Z10.
for those who are having problems with phone not going to sleep, just go to settings - manage apps - and disable the Samsung TTS app (or freeze it with Titanium Backup). At least this fixed the problem here.

Hello all,
I have this problem with battery drain which makes me really upset lately - it doesn't last even one day, but its charge up to 4200mV. First i thought its battery, but lately I've noticed the CPU usage for Android System process is around 50% all the time.
Installed watchdog and elixir2
On both usage is around 50%, even in offline mode, on elixir2 log for this process all the time i see this hundreds times every second:
Throttle Service
onPollAlarm - roaming=false, read=0, written=0, new total=8882132
What is this, what does it indicates and how to get rid of this?
Thanks for any suggestion
system 2.3.7 - MROM from january
I'm not familiar with the settings you are showing but I would start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726309 and see if that helps
Thanks, I will try blue sleep fix later, but for now i need to find out what exactly is drainin my battery, any suggestion how to do that, which exact part of "Android System" process is responsible, as, its kinda obvious, i cant kill this process
Ok, factory reset solved the issue...
