Enable JIT to unlock CPU performance
OC need to be wait

Thanks for quick reply!
How do you enable JIT on P500? I've used to install patch on Eclair, or use a2sd.
I thought, that JIT should be enabled by default on Froyo.

Highest stable clock speed
I just want to report on my experiences overclocking while running the [awesome] Megatron ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870640), using SetCPU to further increase the clock speed from the default 728Mhz.
Though the phone was usable at much higher clock speeds, I found that it crashed a little too often for my taste (though encountering no problems in the SetCPU stress test). I've slowly been stepping down my clock speed and have been entirely crash-free at 768MHZ. Enjoy!

[Q] Fastest ROM for the HERO?

Hey there. I've been running VillainROM 1.5 Froyo for about 2 weeks, and is quite dissapointed of the speed. It's to laggy, even when I'm just writing a SMS. So, i was woundering, what ROM is the fastest? i dont seek any android version under 2.0 - Thanks!
Have you tried flashing flykernel over the top of froyd? I found that helped - but only the 528/352 kernel.
I currently use Elelinux 2.2 stock with the default 528/352 - well smooth, but I find that if I go any higher than 576 flykernel the phone becomes laggy.

Don't know what that means
Elelinux for me too. It comes with the kernal so no need to worry about that. Lag could be helped by full wipe. Elelinux has now released a lighter version which may be even faster. Keep caches clean and overclock to what works best for your hero : )

I'm also using the Elelinux Froyo 2.2 ROM, so far so good
Much quicker than the 2.1 i was running.
So far no breakdowns.
I'm using elelinux's Froyo 2.2 Special Edition release and my phone is faster than it's ever been.
Apparently I can't post links to other threads. That's dumb!
I am using RCmix (experimental), its very fast, and I had no problems with it. The only problem is that it drains the battery quite fast, but still a excellent rom.

Try without overclock, the Rom is fast anyway so you may not need it. It can be trial and error, search the forum for set CPU, you can download set CPU for free there too: )

ok firstly he said fastest
i would put money on none of them roms match the speed and smoothness of sensehero b5.1
it just lacks some of the new cool stuff people go on about which after a week you wont use it anyway so id say sensehero

Knowing how to install a ROM is enough. Installing custom kernel is pretty much the same: get a zip file (in this case it is FlyKernel-11c #66 (Generic) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730471), put in on your SD card, boot into recovery and apply the zip.
Then you install SetCPU application which allows you to change the maximum frequency of your phone's CPU. No tech knowledge is required: it has a slider to set it. The higher the frequency the faster your phone will go but setting it too high might get it unstable (apps closing, device freeze). You just need to experiment to get to the highest frequency possible.
Oveclocking cannot damage your phone (it's not like PC overclocking when people usually also raise the CPU voltage).
Get VillainROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715728
Good luck

Goto the Android Touch development section. Find [ Guide ] Complete newbie guide to rooting and installing roms by btdag. HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
I was in your shoes 4 weeks ago, and now I've flashed 5 roms. 2 kernels. Countless themes and a font or 3. Seriously that guide is simple and easy to learn.
As for roms, I've only tried 5, so I'm certainly no expert but I've found them all to be very close speed wise. Stability wise, floyo, froyo and villian roms seem to edge out ( but only by a little, they are all good ).
Readers digest: read the above thread, then read it again. The put all three of the above mentioned roms on you SD card. Try them all. Once you know the steps in that thread, switching roms is a breeze. That thread includes step by step instructions.
Good luck. Msg me if you have question i'll be happy to help. I was there in your shoes just a month ago and know how frustrating it can be.

New to all this !

Just got a Sony Ericsson X10 and it has Android 1.6. I want to upgrade to the latest version of android and want to enable features like multi touch.. How do i upgrade my phone? I dont know anything about android and most of the posts here have just confused me
Hi - and welcome..
Go to the Sony Ericsson website and download and install SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) to your PC..
Fire that up and follow the onscreen instructions (carefully)..
That will get you upto the latest version of the firmware for your phone..
It may NOT be the latest available firmware though depending on whether your phone is customised by a specific carrier/ network?
If it doesn't upgrade you then look settings and about phone then tell us the country and customisation info in there..
Good luck..
If you're feeling brave you can root it too.. and do a load of other stuff.. (took me a while to build up the courage to get into all that side of it.. but was worth it in the end, cos phone performance can be improved dramatically)!

Greets alamode, congrats on your new X10, and welcome to xda.
First off, it's great to hear that you have at least tried to find a place to start with your Android, and I know it can be rather daunting, as well as time consuming.
- If you're only interested in official Sony Ericsson (SE) Firmwares then you can just simply connect your phone to your computer after having installed PC companion on it
and follow the instructions. This should give you the latest official rendition of Android for the X10 which is 2.1 and includes dual touch.
- If however you wish Custom Firmwares which go well beyond anything that Sony could ever offer than I would recommend after having updated through PC Companion
(above) the next step is to 'Root' your X10 which allows you greater access and control over your device and the ability to 'Flash' (install) the many custom Themes, Apps, and ofcourse Firmwares(ROM)s

Anyways ill update my device first from Sony ericsson then.. After that i'll have to root my device? Since i dont know much about rooting/flashing can someone just guide me as to what that is and what it does? Whats the difference between rooting and flashing?
And thanks guys you lot are helpful !

Um No...
Trying to update but keep getting this : unable to install or start phone software update components
Try doing a repair first then try the upgrade..
For rooting.. go to this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906248 download Superoneclick to your pc and run it from there..
Rooting will give you access to the system files so if you start rooting around in there deleting things then it can be dangerous - but you can always reflash/ repair using SEUS.
Rooting will also give you the opportunity to install custom ROMS which you'll find on the Dev sub-forum.
Would also recommend that you install JIT once rooted, as this gives a big performance boost. You'll find that on these x10 forums too.
Alright.. This is so frustrating. Been trying to root my phone all night but not really able to get anywhere.. Here's what i did..
First i finally upgraded to 2.1.. I used another PC and somehow it didnt give me the error i was getting earlier at the other PC. Not sure what was the problem there.
After upgrading to 2.1 i decided to root. First i used the SuperOneClick file to root my phone. After rooting, I installed BusyBox and then kept installing xRecovery but with no luck. xRecovery would just not install !!! I coped the apk file and ran the install from the phone, I got the icon but after getting the icon when it comes to the installing part it just freezes and after a while i get an error which gives me 2 options, Either to force close or to wait. I tried the other method too, the pushing method using X10ModTool and that didnt work either. After lots of tries and after getting extremely frustrated i uninstalled the apps and tried to start fresh.. I unrooted my phone using SuperOneClick and decided to root using z4root. I got the icon in the menu for z4root and i clicked on permanent root.. My phone restarts but i dont see the SuperUser icon anywhere.. If i try to install BusyBox it keeps on saying that its trying to get information..
So, So extremely frustrating !
Oh and i forgot to mention that after upgrading to 2.1, my Phone seems to have become slower while swishing between screens..
Which build number version do you have as the Superoneclick is for 2.1.A.0.435 and 2.0.2.A.0.24.
2.1.A.0.435
Im just not able to get root access ! Ive tried X10 Flash Tool, Ive tried SuperOneClick, Ive tried another software as well.. I just cant seem to get the root access..
I Installed Root checker and everytime after i root i check and it says that you do not have root access.. :S
help !

Install xRecovery and then you can even upgrade your phone to 2.2 there are some good ROMS available on this forum, you can check this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=617
Thanks. Yeah i have xrecovery installed as well.
What is basically a ROM? From my understanding its a customized firmware? If so, Which ones the best at the moment? I cannot compromise on functionality (as in i dont want that i cannot use bluetooth/camera/wifi or some other feature because of the rom). So basically i just want a stable rom in which i dont have any limitations. Also what is the advantage of using another rom anyway?
Thanks !
Okay.. ran a few of those optimizations and stuff and the phone is running a bit better. Can you guys tell me what is a good Benchmark score for Stock 2.1 on x10? im getting 33.4 MFLOPS right now.. is that alright?
I still am experiencing a little stutter in the menus, so i installed LauncherPro and that seems to have taken care of it.. I dont understand why cant i get the stutter to go away in the original home screen?
Lastly, Another problem ive been having.. My mobile is connected via USB but instead of it charging up, It is very very slowly losing charge. It went from 95% to 89% in around 45-60 minutes. Whats that all about?

For me the best 2.1 ROM so far is bluesparks, it is very fast and stable. Everything works in this ROM.
As for a 2.2 ROM, i just love wolfbreak's CM6.1.3 v4.3. Everything works except for the camcorder. For getting the camcorder to work you can download video illusion from the market. The quality wont be as good though. However this ROM is just too good. Too fast and stable with good animations.

Yeah, that is the 2.2 ROM I was talking about. Make sure you install the correct one depending on your baseband.
In order to keep everything, make a backup of your apps using titanium backup. You can then restore your apps after installing this ROM. Thats what I did.

[Q] Rooting 2.2.1 and overclocking

Hey I just got my Lg oPtimus one P500 and I want to know how to root it, superoneclick doesnt work for some odd reason (I think I needed to download some huge apk program or something, idk, I'm not much of a techie) and I need to know how to root it! If I root is it gonna erase all my data?
and where can I find a link to information on how to overclock my phone. cause I want to get it a bit faster but I don't want to blow it up :\

hi ya, i have just come from the pulse which i know is totally different, and the wildfire, which wasnt rooted, this phone is amazing compared to them, so far francos rom to me is perfect and each kernel he releases is perfect for me aswell.
oh and to the OP, im not sure about using the other roots but with gingerbreak, i installed it on the phone, run it, it rooted it and put superuser on there, i then used the guide and put on the custom recovery and francos rom, all in all it was very easy..
i tried the gingerbreak v1.20 on v10c 2.2.1 indian stock rom and it worked perfectly.
btw i broke my old optimus and bought a new one.
so sad my dead optimus

[Q] gingerbreak and overclocking

hi guys!!
can some tell me if using gingerbreak will allow me to use overclocking apps...
i have a LG OPTIMUS ONE (stock: 10a) and i tried Z4root. it worked but i cant overclock more then 600mhz. so do i need to do the manual rooting that is found all over the web to be able to overclock my phone to 806mhz(which seems like the bet setting), or will gingerbreak do that for me.
if not please give me a link that will give me step by step to manually root my phone. and the best kernel to use...
this one seems to be the best as of yet: franco.Kernel
from what i read so far...
but there are so many threads that i dont know which is the best
im in SA so dont know it all root methods are for my phone(does it matter)
thank you
firefly over and out!!!
Gingerbreak does not overclock anything, it is rooting your phone (which you have already done).
You cannot overclock a stock kernel, install a custom one, such as franco.

Uh? You said you already rooted it via z4root. Why would you want to root it again?
Please, read the sticky threads and then ask something specific if you have issues with flashing a kernel.

harlo.. im afraid its impossible. but rooting arent that hard and if u want the root to be unroot, jz do a full installation via SEUS or PC companion
i think root your device will be correct way to gain more speed. btw, if u are not so-in ur device, rooting should be fine since u are not going to mess ur device. root only meant something when u utilized it for customize ur phone core files, if not, rooting simply meant to gain some speed, but not at all, bear in mind, it is all at your own risk.
can try any task killer app to gain some speed without rooting.
p/s: i read somewhere else, 2.3.3 is fast because the rom are set to be full at all time, not like 2.1 and 1.6 the rom stay empty until u run some app. (not so sure)
