hi guys!!
can some tell me if using gingerbreak will allow me to use overclocking apps...
i have a LG OPTIMUS ONE (stock: 10a) and i tried Z4root. it worked but i cant overclock more then 600mhz. so do i need to do the manual rooting that is found all over the web to be able to overclock my phone to 806mhz(which seems like the bet setting), or will gingerbreak do that for me.
if not please give me a link that will give me step by step to manually root my phone. and the best kernel to use...
this one seems to be the best as of yet: franco.Kernel
from what i read so far...
but there are so many threads that i dont know which is the best
im in SA so dont know it all root methods are for my phone(does it matter)
thank you
firefly over and out!!!
Gingerbreak does not overclock anything, it is rooting your phone (which you have already done).
You cannot overclock a stock kernel, install a custom one, such as franco.

Uh? You said you already rooted it via z4root. Why would you want to root it again?
Please, read the sticky threads and then ask something specific if you have issues with flashing a kernel.

(is there an app I can download? z4root didn't work)
If I root is it gonna erase all my data?
and where can I find a link to information on how to overclock my phone. cause I want to get it a bit faster but I don't want to blow it up :\
id appreciate help, thanks!
Go back to ROM 2.2 and then Install z4root. It's pretty straight forward.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
You can also use SuperOneClick.
Here is a guide for doing everything from rooting through to custom ROM with lots of explanation.

hi ya, i have just come from the pulse which i know is totally different, and the wildfire, which wasnt rooted, this phone is amazing compared to them, so far francos rom to me is perfect and each kernel he releases is perfect for me aswell.
oh and to the OP, im not sure about using the other roots but with gingerbreak, i installed it on the phone, run it, it rooted it and put superuser on there, i then used the guide and put on the custom recovery and francos rom, all in all it was very easy..
i tried the gingerbreak v1.20 on v10c 2.2.1 indian stock rom and it worked perfectly.
btw i broke my old optimus and bought a new one.
so sad my dead optimus
Hello!
First off, I have no idea where to start. Neither is it easy to look up any tutorial or anything, but let's take that off our minds.
Where do I start? Right now, I'm running Android V.2.2.3 with no custom kernels or ROMs, but that is what I want to try out.
Is there a thread for how to install custom ROM and kernels? I'd appreciate if you posted it.
Ok, #1 use the search, it works and most android phones work the same
#2 there is a thead in this very section for flashing an sh*t
As Rores said above, use the search option. There's probably 50 people asking the same question. Anyways, to root you have a couple methods.
1) z4Root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953 It's just a simple APK so it doesn't take that much effort
2) SuperOneClick. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 SuperOneClick can root almost ANY device, so it's highly likely it can root yours.
3) *If your on Android 2.2 or lower only* Gingerbreak. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765 Pretty much the same as z4Root. Install an APK, run the program and done!
Try them all, it can't break your device. The worst it can do is cause a factory reset.

In all honesty, that is why I asked! The "very thread" says that it is created for semi-newbs, for example people who have flashed atleast one ROM, which I currently have not.
EDIT: SuperOneClick is such a magnificent piece of program. "Not Responding"
If that is the case, I'll probably stick unrooted. NP
I've read somewhere that it is possible to overclock without the use of a custom ROM. My question is, has anyone done it? if so, how? Thanks!

You would need a custom kernel to overclock.
Download pershoot custom kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138167
Setcpu: https://market.android.com/details?...wsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5taHVhbmcub3ZlcmNsb2NraW5nIl0.
Best of luck!

And just so you know, setcpu requires root privileges. I don't really see a way of staying completely stock, but that's probably the closest option.

You can download Android Overclock BUT you need to be rooted for it to work. I have a custom rom without overclock and use that app.

stock can be the following-
stock with no root access. the original setup as from the factory.
stock with root access. using the rooting process specific to your device to allow the device to look the same but allowing extra functions and other apps requiring root access to run.
Hope this helps with what you're asking.

Just root your tab...there is like 5 tutorials now ...then download a cpu app from the market..the free ones work just as well...no need to pay
no need for a custom kernel....even though you should....and a custom rom....
I am a complete noob when it comes to Android devices and I would like to root my SGS2 but I'm scared that I will mess up and 'Brick' my phone. Also what are the Pros and Cons of rooting a device?
Basic info of the phone...
Android build : Gingerbread.XWKI8
Version : 2.3.5
Kernel Version : 2.6.35.9-1900XWKI8-CL616395

Use the latest version of SuperOneClick. You'll need some drivers, install KIES to get them.
The best way would be for you to go to the forum section dedicated to your device instead of asking in the wrong forum.

I have found a few threads providing this info but all of them have A LOT of advanced lingo.
There are many of us who are not pros at this and REALLY need a step by step dummies version.
Can someone kindly point me in the right direction?

now for a custom Rom
Good luck! Suroot is gtg...although cf will install CWM to your phone...so then you can then flash anything straight from your phone without having to plug into your PC.

So, I see someone already helped you.To prevent this question being asked again, cuz its probably going to, the easiest way is flashing a CF root kernel with Odin [ the only thing you have to do is find the suitable version, turn the phone into download mode Volume Down + Menu + Lock button, then press volume up I think.
Connect the phone to the pc via usb, double click on odin, wait till it recognizes ur phone, load the CF root in the pda tab and click flash. You wait a minute and you are done.

ooohhh naokilla please translate lol Suroot is gtg... translation? CF will install clockwork versus ....?
I manged to do the whole rooting last night pretty smoothly (as well as unlocking it).
I am now just wondering what custom rom to put in CM9 maybe? I currently have CM7 on my myTouch 3g
Gtg...good to go......cf root will install clockwork mod on your phone....meaning u wont need to use odin on your pc to flash another rom(unless its a tar: file......with cwm you flash using your phone by going in to the cwm app and selecting cwm recovery.....its much quicker than odin flashing.just make sure u make a backup before u flash

There are some good custom roms on android original development forum.
I personally use italian custom rom, gives you good battery life and looks. for more info please see this post "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162715"
you can always change the rom if you don't like it as long you have rooted your fone and you have CWM (Clock work mod) installed..
Happy flashing..
don't forget to press thanks button,,
You can use the CF-ROOT method. For me it has been the easiest, safest & quickest I have found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
If you dont find the exact version of your firmware, dont worry, try to use the most similar. It should work. As they say in the post, if you use more than 30 seconds in getting root, you need some practice.
