[Q] Light up keys broken???? SGS Tools.. - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was using the app SGS Tools from the market and tinkering around. I started using some of the system key codes to check out a few things. I ended up selecting the key code for "Touchscreen Firmware" and decided to upgrade the firmware because it sounded good. It gives you 2 options, you can upgrade the touchscreen firmware and the backlit touchscreen buttons. The normal touchscreen upgrade went okay, but when I attempted to upgrade the button firmware it said that it was successful and now only the Home key and the Back key light up and no keys work at all. Is it even possible to fix this??? I used ODIN to go back to stock, then i ODIN'd to the JK2 Froyo. No luck with either. Any help would be very much appreciated! I will search some more about this in the meantime.

That code should really be removed from sgs tools

I ran it again after flashing and it fixed it. Who knows...

I have the same problem but can't seem to fix it. Anyone know how??

Also I have the same problem. Can someone please help, been over a week now trying new ROM's.
Please help!!!!!

SGS tools is dangerous for noobs and semi-noobs alike!
I hate reading through these posts. I flashed Darky's ROM which comes with sgs tools and so, like anyone, when I saw upgrade touchscreen firmware, I did just that and lost all access to my soft keys. I usually can troubleshoot any problems I have but this one beat me. I am now without a phone. I realize that you should never mess around with commands and functions that you don't understand but the developer seems to say that the app doesn't allow you to accidentally mess anything up but her we are.

[Q] Widget's

Im using CM7, when I long press on the homescreen or any screen for that matter to add widgets (perferably one's that I have downloaded from the market) I cant seem to find what I had just downloaded, the only widgets that show are the one's that came with the ROM. What could possibly be the problem as to why Im not seeing the widgets Ive downloaded from the market ?
Ive enclosed screenshots of the problem
Hey i see you used ginger break. man i have the app on my home screen but when ever i atemo to press the root nbtton i become hesitant because i hink my phone is gonna get bricked
Of you can't see the widgets that's strange I use mik cm7 and have all my widgets try re flashing the rom and make sure you wipe all your data first
As far as rooting I use z4root and it works fine you won't brick it just from rooting it its installing custom recoverys and rom that could brick it but really if you fallow the instructions its not that hard our a big deal you get get bricked if you fallow all the instructions and you will see a huge performance boost

Are they on phone memory? Widgets that are moved to sd card give problems.
Sent from my LG Optimus One P500 using XDA App
You know I had set that all new applications be moved to external source, now that you've said something about it, I reflashed CM7 when I didnt need to, Im thinking about switching to OpenOptimus though, I like the scripts that he has running
I used Gingerbreak, my phone isnt bricked, Id recommend using Gingerbreak though, but Ive read a few posts that has specifically said not to use GBreak if you were running 2.2, but I had no problems with it. If this helped you at all, give thanks

[Q] Hardkeys Remapped?

Not sure what causes it, anything other than Stock SBF causes my DX2 to switch the mapping of Home and Back Button... Its kind of pissing me off.
Any suggestions/ideas?
I tried ButtonRemapper but it doesn't work for our phone.
Currently on 2.3.4 with Eclipse 1.0 Rom.
Tried many flashes - Occurs on:
Stock 2.3.3 SBF
Rooted 2.3.3
Stock 2.3.2 + P3Droids' 2.3.3 Root
Stock 2.3.4 SBF
Occurs with or without Eclipse.
Occurs with Data/Cache/Dalvik wipes before installs after installs etc.
I found the keyboard layout folder but I don't really know what I am doing thought I would ask for some guidance for our specific phone. Maybe someone else has had this issue and solved easily?
Thanks, RC
It might just be the phone. I've never heard of this issue. You say you have it on all versions? That's odd.
DX2 Eclipse 1.0
the hardkeys on the X2 nearly sent me in another direction for a phone (yes, I hate the clicking THAT much!).
And I dunno if it'll do a damn thing, but have u tried anything like Button Savior or the like to by pass those keys?...i love that damn app X )
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
You also can try zmooth or zmooth light. Another option to button savior, and I find it is out of the way and easy to use.

Anybody know about editing .KL files on the Dx2?

[Q] Pixel tearing while booting from Simply Honey (light) ROM

I was flashing a ROMfor the first time from Stock Eclair 2.1
So, as per the Instructions on Simply Honey 5.1 Revolution(JVR GB 2.3.4) Thread,
I flashed the light version ROM using Odin, after doing backup, and cleanup from CWM (so My phone was as from factory, when I was flashing using ODIN.)
The flashing was successful, and the phone rebooted but I saw a lot of pixel tearing during startup until the Android green monster was popping and everything was clear as the language selection menu came up.
I let the phone sit idle for 15mins, after this,, while USB was still plugged in.
I restarted the phone again, and still see the pixel tearing on startup until the Android Green monster pops up.
Iam going to select the language preferences and continue using my phone.
But is there anything which I did wrong, or is there any way I can avoid the pixel tearing during Startup?
Not able to even Receive Calls Now!
Guys please reply!
As I have insufficient no. of posts, therefore I can't post in the thread for Simply honey ROM...
Apart from ,
1.) the screen tearing at startup(as above)
there are other major issues:
2.) If I get a call, the phone would ring for once, and then call will get automatically disconnected with the Network service failing, and a notification would popup that com.android.phone failed or com.android.dialer failed.
3.) Battery is draining at a rapid pace! I know there is fix(/app) to calibrate the battery not showing 100% after full charge. But I observed, I lost around 38% (39 to 1) in around 5hours, with no activity whatsoever, except the alarm(which I think didn't ring when I woke up)
Hey sounds like you ate seeing the rainbow on bootup. You need to Odin the gingerbread bootloaders to clear that up. I believe the simply OP has link out you can search for the actual thread in development section.
As for the calls issue, I haven't had it but there are threads about it in the simply topic. If you search there they have a solution for it....
Hope that helps

thanks for the confirmation. I was not aware u didn't develop for Vibrant as I saw u as one of co-developers of Simply Honey ROM under the Vibrant Thread, but now that u have mentioned I will make sure I don't contact u via pm.
Sent pm to explodingboy70 , waiting for his response now.
Have been almost a week, still haven't got any reply from explodingboy70.
Will flashing bootloader solve my dialer issue, was super busy this week, didn't get time to flash bootloader, so had been without any incoming calls for the past week.
Any pointers for going back to stock 2.1, so that I can start over this process from scratch?

Odin stuck halfway

Hi there,
SOLVED THE ISSUE MYSELF. SORRY FOR BOTHERING YOU GUYS.
----EDIT:
IGNORE THIS, I JUST FIXED MY ISSUE. THANKS FOR LOOKING HERE ANYWAY.
I'm using a stock Touchwiz 4.1.1 rooted Samsung s3 international version. I flashed a few mods from the Omega kitchen rom (camera and a phone mod). The replacement camera broke the stock camera app and the phone mod broke my contacts app.
The issue wasn't that bad as the contacts app could still be used, the only issue was that the app would crash if I tried to make additional edits to existing contacts. The camera app was totally broken, but that wasn't that bad either as I could use alternative and better camera apps. Nonetheless, still annoying so I endeavored for an easy fix.
Some folks on XDA forums advised I do a re-flash of the same rom without the wipe. I did this with odin, but the result was odin has stopped progressing 2/3rds of the way in. I am just stuck on the "downloading do not turn off target" screen. It's been hovering at this point for the past 20 minutes. The phone is still plugged in this very moment.
What should I do? I haven't tinkered with this phone a whole lot. It's mainly stock, with only few alterations. I've used Odin three times before, once to flash the new stock 4.1.1 and another time to fix a sift brick caused by installing the "Beats by Dre" audio drivers. Both to smooth success.
But now when the issue seemed less than ever before, it's stuck in odin, not progressing at all. I'm worried and have come here for your professional wisdom!
Thanks in advance.
A tad worried. Hope everything is going to be okay. >_<
Thanks in advance.
Hey OP,
Can you please post what you did, in the case that is this happens what do we do?
did you brick?
Sent from my GT-I9300
Alright so there was no issue apart from I tried to flash the phone mod and camera mod from omega jb kitchen (you get it from the playstore). This broke my. Camera and contacts app respectively and I couldn't get them back even after replacing them back with stock apks.
So I re flashed my existing rom with the same with odin but it stopped halfway - and sat there without doing anything.
The solution? Use a different USB cable and don't use the computer too much while you're doing the flash it may interrupt it. After re flashing everything was fine.

I didn't even bother with Kies. I was rooted and was pretty sure that Kies would not work until returning to stock.
went into the development section and to the Odin stock JB thread. someone had posted video on youtube and I watched it once.
got all necessary downloads and went through step by step. it seemed as if it hung at blue and white att ball, but left it plugged into Odin until it fully booted. out of the blue "YATZEE".
always a good idea, go slow and follow directions to the tee.
I always get nervous in the service, but this was pretty easy.

Pop-up note works for me, just hold down the S-Pen's button as you double tap the screen.
Despite what nearly every news outlet claims, multiview isn't in this release. Although according to Samsung's press release, the floating window support for videos and the browser made it in. I've gotten the floating video to work, but I can't figure out how to get the browser to float. I don't see an option for that anywhere.
The only other thing that isn't working for me is Samsung's stock image gallery. It crashes the phone, even after wiping EVERYTHING, and doing a re-flash. While I would have liked to at least test it, I just deleted it and I'm using QuickPic as a replacement.

Kinda a lot. I've deleted over 200 MB of bloat from /system and most things are pretty laggy. Where's Project Butter?! Other than the stability, it doesn't feel any faster or better than the existing AOSP JB releases to me. But strangely, some things like window animations and menus fading out are incredibly smooth. But as soon as I put my finger on the display, everything gets laggy.
But at least my GPS works properly. :| It didn't in any ICS ROM, including stock.
The new jellybean update from AT&T does not lag for me. People say it does but first, flash rom, factory reset, root, remove bloat, download setcpu, min 192 max 1.5. Does not lag one bit for me. :silly::silly:
Same experience as ^^^^. Remember friends, freeze a bloatware app, then use your phone for a while, and if there's no problems, delete.
Some apps you might be tempted to delete can bork your system. Proceed with care.
Sorry for my stupid question. Could you teal with apps did you freeze? I dont want stop something that might brick my phone
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
I froze every at&t app and google stuff I don't use like search and place. Don't mess with email and messaging.
If you're going to experiment, do you know how to make a nandroid backup? Its your insurance policy.
And you won't ever brick doing this. The worst thing is your phone will give error messages and won't function.
Just restore your nandroid.

How can I do that? I canĀ“t enter to recovery
The combos work...they are within the boatloaders if those were messed up your phone would be dead.
Yank the battery between trying the combos each time... if you can't get recovery to cooperate, try download mode and reflash.
Jellybean upgrade - or not??
Maybe I jumped the gun upgrading to stock Jellybean because I miss the following features
1) Three day calendar - maybe I messed something up but I don't see a way to get it back. Currently using weekly list view but its not the same. Also the "Today" widget only shows today the ICS one would show about 24 hours of items so usually would show what is going on tomorrow as well.
2) I am having S-pen issues. I have a collection of different Stylus pens and I have been using one from Samsung Electronics Slate PC because it had a nice size, shape, and an ERASER. The eraser no longer works in S-note. Also one of my favorite time wasters, Cubistry, the spen no longer registers (stock or Slate).
3) I'm getting old and fine print is getting harder to see. On the ICS Swipe keyboard, the long press characters were almost the same size as the regular characters. I'll have to look for another keyboard.
Full blown multi-veiw was also not included but I don't know if I would use it much.
We did get Google Now which I don't use that much & Polaris Office 4.0 that I use alot - the new office can edit text files (ICS could view them but not save text files).
Lol jumped the gun..
It's software if you don't like it just go back abs wait for custom Roms built on this firmware

I tried that and got pop up note, which is pretty cool, but in my first few attempts, I got several screen captures, but I also got a list of apps across the bottom of my screen. I don't know how I got it or what it was and have been unable to duplicate it. Anyone have any ideas about what it was?
