Alright, so I think I bricked my phone! I had put android on it. 2.2 bluetopia? and everything was running fine. My battery was low so I go to charge it, but before I do that a page I was loading from the net froze on me without realizing and the screen dident turn off. I left and did some things and come back to the phone, screen is still on, still frozen and EXTREMELY hot. I get really nervous and get my phone and its to the point where I cant even hold it for too long without it hurting my hands. I take out the battery and pray for the best. My praying sucks apparently because now it does not turn on. Ive tryed letting the phone cool down though the night and it does not turn on. Ive tryed taking out sim card and mem card and it does not turn on. Ive tryed taking out the battery and plugging the the charger it does not turn on. Ive tryed with the battery with the charger it does not turn on! phone gets warm when I put the battery back in. Light that indicates when its charging with the charger doesnt turn on. only slight good news is when I turn the power on I feel a slight vibration from the phone like if its trying to turn on but just cant. Hope someone could shed some light and let me know If I should just move on because this sucks!!!!
ps. I hope people learn from my mistake.
pss. What are the return polices from htc or tmobile? Im concerned because I bought the phone second hand.
thanks for reading/helping.
try stay on charge 15 mns before power on..
ankorez - I tryed that... still does not turn on. gets very warm with no orange light
Sounds like your processor's fried bud. If your phone ever gets hot, or even very warm, TURN IT OFF IMMEDIATELY!!
I know this doesn't help you, as it's too late, but I have seen alot of people mentioning thier phone becoming hot and maybe this will save some headaches.
Sometimes when the HD2 runs low on ram, especially in the Sense Android builds, it seems that the cpu load spikes to 100%, and if left in this state the processor can potentially burn itsself out.
The only time your phone should ever increase in temperature is when it is charging from a very low battery, and still it should not become hot, only slightly warm.
Looks like it's time to call your phone company for a replacement
Seems like ur HD2 is on its suspend cycle, take battery out, leave it for a while (it could be from 2 hours to 8 hours, you have to run-down some sort of internal battery charge), try to switch-on then.
It could have happened bcs of a incompatible radio or Rom, you know you have to have certain WM Rom & radio to run Android.

thanks everyone for your suggestions and input. Ive called HTC and they said my phone is still under warrenty to be fixed as long as it meets there requirments. one of those was "illegal software". would android on the phone be illegal? how about custom rom/radio? would any of the files be saved onto the phone memory? the phone is fried i think so im assuming they cant access the files? id rather find out now instead of sending the phone and not knowing for 3-4 weeks.
Android won't void your warranty, but HSPL will. If you are running a custom rom, chances are you HSPL'ed it. But if you can get it into bootloader (vol down and power your phone on), you can revert back to stock spl by running HSPL on your phone with it in bootloader and choosing SPL 2.08. If you can't get into bootloader, send it away for replacement, they wont be able to tell whether or not it has had HSPL on it, as bootloader is only way to find this out.
I would rather say it got list stolen if you mess with the phone like that they won't cover...

montalvo - list stolen??? what do you mean?
I meant to say if you brick it phone doing all this. The company won't cover I rather say it got stolen or lost it...u know so they're sent u a new one.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
what the! you can do that? how so? i could just call back and say it was stolen... do i have to file a police report?
Yes u need a report but if is broken just get rid of it...they ll charge u 130 $ but better than paying full retail..

I decided to turn it in as a defective unit. It does not boot up or even into bootloader.Do you guys think they could still tell if its been tampered with? Do you guys think they will replace it free? I sure hope so!
after about three weeks without my phone I have finally gotten it back with a new motherboard free of charge. customer service was good and no headaches from them. if anyone has a similar problem like the one I had I recommend sending it in to htc. A+

Its been doing this for a while. I'll go to check it and it's off, but the battery hasn't died. Last night it did this so my alarm didn't go off for work this am. Everything is stock on my phone. N
stock everything so please don't ask what rom/kernal/whatever ..
Any suggestions? I can't be late to work again because this phone is for ****
If you are absolutely sure that your phone is completely stock, then the problem is probably your battery. Does this only happen when the phone is not plugged in?
It does it when its on the charger too. Like I woke up this morning and found it off but it was on the charger when i found it like that. i havent flashed anything or changed any roms or kernals which is why I say its stock. otherwise people ask me what rom im using or whatever.
It could possibly be a lose battery. Generally people will notice it when there is movement to the phone i.e. shaking it or dropping it. If the phone is completely still when it randomly shuts off chance are that a lose battery is not your issue. Still its worth looking into. Most people fix a lose battery with a small piece of cardboard wedged between the battery and case.
Good luck!
Probably not a loose battery. I just had it charging for the past hour and went to check it to find it turned off. Any suggestions as to why it happens when its just sitting there charging?
My phone did the same thing, and with my wife having the same phone I was easily able to rule out battery. Since your complety stock it sounds like a problem with the phone. If your with Tmobile give them a call and see if they will replace it, they did for me.

My phone is already a year old tho. i think my warrenty is gone,
(At least in my case) the warranty didn't matter. I had a 100% bricked vibrant and I told them that "it just happened" and no one was the wiser. I got a replacement and all I had to pay for was shipping. So my advice, tell the T-Mobile rep: my phone is broken through no fault of my own and I want a replacement.
Edit: that stuff happened like a year ago so I don't know if that policy still applies. Hope this helps though.
I did download Load Monitor and made the settings a certain way. so far it hasnt shut off. We will see if I am late to work again tomorrow.
even some stock Samsung roms (like kb5 and ka5) lately have had the same turning off problem for me as well. i think it has to do with some of the older vibrant's when the hardware (battery) becomes charged or is depleting slowly, triggers a software issue like a discharge error forcing an emergency shut-down to prevent damage. the only thing i can recommend it to take the advice of previous posters and get a replacement or upgrade if you are nearing the end of your contract.
just a few things to consider.
Have you tried, I know this sounds odd, a drastic ROM change? Not just switching between Froyo ROMs, but moving to a Gingerbread ROM like MIUI? Could help isolate the problem if it keeps happening under a different OS.
my problem is gone now that i use custom roms. the same could help you thread starter.
Edit. i know you refer to developers as op's but do you do the same to a thread starter?
Pretty sure OP stands for "Original Poster", as in the person who started the thread. Developers start a lot of threads which is probably why you thought it referred only to developers.
Since installing Load Manager my phone hasnt shut off by itself. Seems to have fixed the problem!

You might need to contact HTC.
Hopefully you didn't unlock your boot loader because that voids your warranty. If you did you would know you did its not something you do un-ententionaly. As for auto rotate it could be you accidentally turned it off on quick settings idk if thats on stock but it is on mine but i have a custom rom. As for your phone not turning on try it being plugged into the wall it never hurts to try it has happened to me before if not I would suggest skipping T-Mo and going directly to HTC for advice as they know their phones the best. In addition if they only have a sending it in solution then I would contact T-Mo and tell them your issue. Then you could most likely take it into a store and get a replacement no problem as it seems your phone is pretty new. The phone is pretty new not as new but it never rules out the possibility for a bug as even older well profound technology still has bugs that can cause a major system crash. Happens to me a lot when flying aircraft. Hope this helps.

thank you sir , thats what I was thinking, A Bug .. or glitch
I even Try charging the battery in a dock or craddle and Didnt work..
And thats really weird, I bought the phone for christmas ,I had 4 or 5 apps installed, this phone is unlock cause I use a different carrier
Before taking off the battery, my charge was 90%
What I did exactly is, pull out the battery, went to sleep, wake up, placed the battery again......Dead
About rotation i know about settings and was not that..
I'm having some issues with my phone today guys. I went to sleep with my phone on charge (like I have done every single night since I've had the phone), and when I woke up my phone was ridiculously hot. That hot that I couldn't even hold it in my hand. My old HD2 got hot, but nothing like this.
I'm afraid some of the internals have fried or something. I'm on an NDT MIUI ROM. I think it's version 4.X.X or something. But basically now, my phone will not charge a single bit. It'll go to the battery empty screen, then to the Galaxy S II screen, turn on, show my notifications then after every notification has shown, it goes back off. While plugged in.
What's the problem and what can I do to rectify it? A new battery?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Now it's just looping between the no battery (empty battery with circle) and the Galaxy S II screen.
I was getting to the lockscreen a while ago.
That was over the wall charger, I'm now trying to charge it off my laptop if that matters.
Bump. I don't really want to have an expensive plastic paperweight for very long.
Does the battery look fattened?..try changing batteries,if that didn't work then I'm afraid you have to take it to Samsung..

I don't quite understand what you mean by 'fattened'. If you mean bigger, then no it still fits quite comfortably into the phone. I'm going to try get a hold of another battery later and I'll give it a go. If I do end up having to send it to Samsung, what will they do knowing it has a custom ROM on it? My flash counter is only 2, but I wouldn't even be able to get into the bootloader, as I don't have enough battery to do so.
Luck of the draw basically if you can't reflash stock firmware/jig it.
Some people on here have reported Samsung/whomever has repaired it has played hardball & not repaired it under warranty (which they're entitled to do, which means you pay for it), and some people have reported they've had it fixed under warranty regardless.
At the end of the day, running non-stock firmware voids your warranty (regardless of whether some people on here think that's wrong, etc), and if you can't return the phone to stock firmware and you do get it fixed under warranty you can consider yourself lucky.

OK cheers for that. I unlocked it using some app also, will that have any effect?
I'm really hoping I don't have to go down that route and that a new battery will have it back up and running again. I just feel like it's struggling to keep power to it or something, when on the battery screen, the screen slightly flickers if you look closely, and on the boot anim. the capacitive buttons struggle for light while the screen is as good as it always was.
Also, it's just saying "LOW BATTERY !! CAN'T DOWNLOAD !!" when I try get into the bootloader/download mode w/e it's called so I guess there's hope it's only the battery?
Good news! I went to a phone shop, tried a cheap Chinese battery and it seemed to turn on and load everything just fine. Another shop I tried had an original OEM (well atleast an OEM sticker) battery and that wouldn't work. It's weird! Let's hope my battery can last a suitable amount of time on the Chinese battery. Any recommendations on where I could find an official battery? Looked on Amazon, and some of the reviews are claiming that it's actually just a cheap battery with a Samsung sticker.
Guys I owned a Galaxy SIII white GT-19300... had it for 3-4 months, bought it brand new. used really carefully, only had one or two falls that's it.
Finally it decided to crap all of a sudden like it had a silent heart attack, just a couple of hours ago. It wasn't charging or was in process of updating or anything. Just that I was sitting and having a sms conversation where in the middle it just won't budge at all. It just went completely pulseless.
These are the symptoms:
-No display
-Won't power up by any means
-No charging light
-No sign of booting up
What I tried:
-Hard reset
-Remove SIM and SD card, still no activity
-Swapped battery of working S3
What should be the next step?. Thankfully warranty period hasn't elapsed yet.
How should I approach now?. Will the warranty company replace the set or more likely create some unsolvable obstacles, like them assuming fall or label the phone rooted etc?
Thanks for your time

Warrant may be void if its rooted or custom rom or modified status or rom counter above zero .
No way to reset those on a non booting phone .
Dropped damage incurred again who knows until they take the phone apart .

If the phone's truly hard-bricked, there's no way the service center would be able to discern that. Dead is dead.
Agreed, if the phone is truly dead no one in the sammy repair could able to detect that.
Sent from my GT-I9300
I'm sorry but I have to disagree, just because the power port has died, by no means means the memory/storage, or anything else for that matter really is down.. (not that it'll come up, just making a point)
it sounds like you really did everything right to troubleshoot it huh.. well let me just throw a few things out, you probably didnt, but hopefully did overlook..
the cord you're trying to charge it with, could it be not working/charging it?
have you tried another cord, or maybe even a USB cord? was it plugged in when it died? some low quality/defective cords can have some weird effects on phones, like less responsive digitizers, or even short out a phone
did you have any custom CPU settings? over/under clock/volt? had you played with you min/max CPU settings?
it doesn't turn on, did you determin this by seeing no display? seeing if there's any hapticfeedback, or even calling it from another phone and seeing if it rings on the callers side.
I know it seems silly but I'm just throwing out things from personal expirence ..
so now your phone really is dead, well having it under warrenty is great. having worked at an AT&T corporate retailer, I can tell you what happens on our side when you bring in a damaged phone.. well try it ourselves, well ask what happened, if you don't know well ask things like, 'did you drop it', 'or it was in contact with water'. (were actually required to ask, since these things aren't covered under warranty. which let me say, is so broken that we push the extended warranty on you, because it covers basically nothing.. we have a quota that says we need to sell X amount of a list of product/services each month.. but I digress).. anyway, once you tell us it just died out of nowhere we take your phone, put it in an envelope and ship it back to the manufacturer. in the mean time well offer you a loaner phone if you need one (just whatever we have on hand at the time, usually phones we get from trade-ins) (you keep your battery and sim) , and we put a 50 dollar hold on your card (yes on a creditcard, not your account) until your phone comes back in and we get our loaner phone. they'll send you a phone back to us, not yours, usually a refurbished version, then we call you and let you know your phones ready.
NEVER have I ever seen or heard anything ever of checking for root. most of our reps don't even know what that is.. once we submit a replacement form, the new phone is on transit to our shop usually by the next day (meaning they send out the replacement before they get the one we sent).
my advice is once you're sure the phone is dead, take it in to your retailer, tell them it died out of nowhere while you were texting, and it won't turn back on. you don't need to go into anymore detail than that..
clearly I have a problem with rambling this morning haha so ill stop talking there. if you have anymore questions tho, ill be happy to answer. goodluck!

Thanks for the detailed reply man, really appreciated. Especially since I was already trying to read the minds of these warranty dealers!
So just a while ago I gave it in for warranty. I was adamant of it going dead while I was doing an sms (although true!).. just said no to whatever cause they tried to find (wasn't any, honest!). They were pressing me though for the graze it got (a month ago).. I said 90% of the phones are scratched, and how many do die? He went okay we'll see then, 'yeah you are right we buy that, most that gets damaged from a fall is a phone with shattered screen!"'. Next question, the tricky one!. Did you modify/update software?
I was like, I keep my phones as stock and was totally acting alien to terms like 'rooting' 'firmware' 'kernel' etc (not being honest, but i'm sure that's not the cause)
He was like okay hand it over, we'll do the rest!
Hopefully they don't ever get to revive the mobo or i'm screwed for real!
my phone just died after flashing morfic A10 kernel. i am running stock rooted rom and the best part my sgs 3 was bought 11/18/12 from target, cant go to download mode, cant go to recovery i even tried adb recovery and download mode hoping to turn on nada, charge for an hour no led flashing. my sgs3 totally dead. called target and they said just bring it and they will replace it with new one if the phone wont turn on. is that mean i will be okay even my phone is rooted?
UPDATE:
Thank God.. got my SIII fixed in warranty, now it's back to life!
Just had a motherboard replacement, no further details given.
Hence kind of proven!:
if the phone is truly dead no one in the sammy repair could able to detect that.

So I have seen several threads on this. Need your guys help.
This is what I had before **** hit the fan.
Droid DNA
Rooted/S-Off/Unlocked
CM 10.2 Nightlies
In working condition when I went to sleep....
So what happen, who knows. I was playing D.O.T before hitting the sack. Battery was at 48% before locking the screen. Thought about charging my phone but decided that my HTC One needed to be charged first. Fast forward 6hrs later, HTC One giving me the green light that its good to go but my Droid is not tuning on. NO CHARGE Light, NO USB CONNETION, NO LIFE. I thought that maybe phone must have died. Bit weird though as it was only 6 hrs and I have never seen any of my phones die in 6hrs and screen off.
I did all of the available troubleshooting as I can think of.
Hold Volume - & Power Button - 30 Secs NO GO
Hold Volume + & Power Button - 30 Secs NO GO
Hold Volume +&- / Power Button - 2 mins NO GO
No go... thought maybe system may have been stuck or super deep sleep.
Apparently i dont have warranty with Best Buy. they scammed me, screw them, for another topic... So
Pulled back battery cover...
Unscrewed the screws that hold battery cable. Pulled out and waited 10 min before replugging it back in. NO GO.....
Took apart phone, took MOBO out, USB chip, top chip that hold the SIM, left everything out for about 12hrs, took a break and put everything together NO GO
So I consolidated with some friends and they had some success on their about this matter.....
Connect USB into Computer for 10 min then battery reset by Volume -+ and Power Button for 2 min NO GO
Charged for 12rhs Via Computer and did above NO GO
Charged for 12hrs via Power outlet NO GO
At this point Im leaning towards hard brick but idk how, didnt really do anything last night. Just sat there next to my other phones. No auto updates or anything that would require system reboot of anything of the sort.
At this time I have no charge light, no sign of life, and im about out of options at this time. I would send out to JTAG team to get it fixed but I dont have the cash to send out. My concern is that I recently bought the phone back in July and now Im bummed that it deosnt work. Money well spent but now a brick. Reverted back to my Note 2 and Moto X for the time being but would like to have her back up and running as I personally liked the phone.
Anyone recommend any option that I havet listed above or is there a way I can JTAG the sucker at home?
Also, as you can imagine from the the above, I have no way to adb and try to force something in it if software related....
*sigh....

Wow, you've got an HTC One, Moto X, Droid DNA AND a Note 2?
Sorry, not helping.
Sounds like the board possibly took a dump... Just speculation...
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium HD app
So called Verizon and told them that my phone has does not turn on at all. they troubleshooted with me on the phone.....
Nothing worked......
They said that they would send one out but I had to ask....
I have a small crack on the screen and that it didn't affect the phones ability to be used right. They said that well they could replace it but if the phone is serviced and they find out that the crack was some how the main reason that it was the problem (Keep in mind this is Verizon we're talking about) they would slap on the the full price of the phone on my bill.....
To my knowledge and experience sounds like the board took a crap and even if the replaced the screen, the board would still need to be changed out. If they say it was the screens fault, I cant say it wasn't it was the board because they'll question why I think that and how would I know, did you open it?
I did save the void sticker and it does show small signs that I was in there but I hate to risk having my account charged at full price for a phone.
Such a dilemma as its a brand new phone besides the crack in the screen. I talked to my coworkers about this and they said I could wait for a DNA to come in as a sale or total lose and try to snag the MOBO but who's to say that phone isn't blacklisted or worse.
All of the phones I have are what I call Frankenstein phones. I work in a shop that repairs cell phones/xboxs/ps3/computers and we pay for broken crap. Most of the time its a screen problem. They dont get insurance and dont take care of their phones so I scrap them and use different parts from other phones to build one. The only phones I eve bought was the DNA, Droid Razr, well most droid serious going back to OG..... just a Droid person.... stick it to IOS and Apple, lol.....
But back to the problem, I could wait for something to come in but again, they usual call VZW and blacklist it and then only good for screen, usb chip, and SIM/earphone jack chip.
What bothers me is that I bought the phone with my own money versus having parts come in and just putting them together so having a brand new toy break hits hard.....
I tried to see if there is any at home JTag is available but all i find is links to send it out to online place that services everyone....
Try a different battery. Maybe in those 6 hours the battery the battery discharged below the "point of no return". No battery, no nothing... Even a super bricked DNA will light the led when charging... But take out the battery and you dont get anything...

I have had similar issues. This has happened to me at least twice with the same dna I have. When I tried to charge it the orange light would not even come on.
My solution was to open it up and unplug the battery. If you have not done this yet you probably should. There are two tiny screws holding it onto the motherboard, take those off and pop the ribbon off the motherboard. After that, put it back together and try to turn it on. Make sure your power button gets lined up correctly. If you need to, check some tutorials on youtube on how to take the dna apart.

might try to PM @Zarboz .. beens is you fix stuff and he has a JTAG service maybe youll can work something out or if you read his profile he will do it for free with some conditions ... sorry .... and good luck
i have taken the phone apart already, down to the last bolt and sticker in there. nothing..... I tried a different battery from another DNA, no dice. So I can rule out that battery didnt past it point of no return but also means Im still stuck with a brick phone.....bwaaaaaaaa
To anyone who has this problem
I've repaired my DNA two times for this reason. I've try everything, I've taken it apart completely and reassembled and nothing. I end up buy one with a broken screen to salvage the motherboard and BINGO. Got it back to life. (about a year ago)
The second time I got the same problem and just ordered a salvaged motherboard from EBAY. Got it working back again (this was 3 or 4 months ago).
Today guess what happend again??... It died yet again. Same thing... No life whatsoever.
After this I'm pretty sure this is the same fault over and over again. Just a poor quality motherboard, it just dies after some time. For me it took from 1 year to 3 or 4 months. Every time the only component that I swapped was the mainboard, nothing else.
I'm tired of spending money on a phone that by now I'm sure i'll die again. :crying:
This is very sad because I love this phone too much just to let it collect dust on the bottom of a drawer. It reminds me of my old HD2.
I will probably try and find yet another board for it on EBAY.
I know it's stupid to fix something that will almost inevitably die again. But thats love I guess.....
This is just my personal experience with this issue. Please try every other solutions before you buy a replacement board.
PS: sorry about my english. It is not my primary language.
Its sad how common ive seen this issue around the Internet and still no straight forward fix or reason. Just casjy playing some og angry birds and my DNA just decides to turn off. RIP I guess, it was a good run.
My dna died today.
I have not taken it apart yet, but I guess I have tried all the other alternatives.
