Heya all,
my Mozart arrived earlier today (coming from Android, I'm loving how clean it is ), and whilst playing around, I couldn't help but notice on the sound enhancement menu thingy, that you can select either Dolby or SRS. I have no idea about either, so can anyone shed any light on which is better please
Alex
Give it a shot and try it out.
I prefer SRS. Enhances bass and gives the drumset a nice, clean sound.
But that's a matter of taste..
And please. Its an HTC Mozart. Take some Sennheisers or equal equpiment

I will get around to getting some proper headphones for it - all my decent ones have broken - and all within the same month :/
I was really disappointed at how bad the HTC ones that came with it were though... You know, with the fancy design and 'HTC Innovation' written down the side of them, you'd think they'd be at least half decent :/

I find Dolby Mobile is better for the speaker on the phone while SRS Enhancement is better when plugged in to speakers. I would assume it would be better for headphones as well.

I think so,when i use headphone,SRS is better
In my HTC Mozart
I use Dolby for external speaker, and SRS for headphones...
Everyone I show the device is impressed with the sound (in Dolby by the speaker) , the sharp and nice saturated screen and the camera....
My only point goes for the video recording, sometimes it takes to much time to focus.. as for the photos they are OK, the xenon flash is very good in low light...
This phone despite having a 3.7 screen should have a kick-stand...so you could see the clips and movies while enjoying the great sound..
I used SRS with my Bose QC3 headphones on the plane the other day, not too bad but not fantastic either
i have a HTC Desire HD pair with Ultimate Ears 600 Noise-Isolating Earphone...
bass and treble perfect with srs...
but
dolby better in provide surround sound effect...
wow i had no idea what great feature dolby mobile is!!!
comming from the homepage of dolby mobile:
http://www.dolby.com/professional/technology/mobile/dolby-mobile.html

i gotta get some dolby headphones... i dont think the included or my senheiser will enable ac3, but ill test out the surround untill then, gonna convert some dolby trailers, will hook yall up with them..
here is a video presentation:

first let me get some info on SRS.....
here you go if you interrested, seems like some nice sound enhance company
http://www.srslabs.com/content.aspx?id=393
but nothing compared to dolby
Sorry, but the chick on the SRS page wins it over for me
Another vote for SRS. When SRS is used on my Creative headphones the sound is very crisp and real, Dolby is a bit too dull and vocals are drowned out.
When using the phone speaker I can't really tell much of a difference.

Hey all, just wondering if the beats audio make any difference. I currently use PowerAmp...usually with no EQ. My music files are mostly .flac with some .ogg and a few mp3's. I'm using Bowers & Wilkins C5 headphones on the go and Shure SRH 840 at home. Is it worth it to look for a ROM with Beats or is Beats all hype?
I tried a pair of Beats. They sound similar to my $50 earbuds. To me its just a marketing gimmick. The bass for me seems too overpowered as well, and I love boosting my bass so don't get me wrong. If you're looking for sound quality, you could get earbuds/headphones with equal or better for cheaper. Sony earbuds/headphones have excellent sound quality with a cheap price tag. Best bang per buck IMO.

the beats EQ on the sensation makes even my ipod headphones sound beast, id like it on here.
with the headphones i havent tried the in ear beats, ive tried the over the ear ones at staples and they sounded great
I got a pair of the solo hd headphones, they are over ear headphones, and music sounds amazing, id recommend them, though they are pricey.
For ROMs I noticed that bass boosting doesn't kill the other sounds and sounds cleaner.

Yes you are right. I even said in my OP which headphones I'm using. One thing I've found is that the stock HTC player with beats audio does not play .flac files.
I was really wondering about beats audio vs something like powerAmp. I have powerAmp now but I find none of the preset eq settings are satisfying. I know you can set custom eq but that's really a pain in the ass and time consuming.
Someone in another thread suggested PlayerPro, but it doesnt seem to recognize .flac files either (at leas the free version).
So I guess the question now is, should I convert my songs to mp3 to take advantage of beats audio, or PlayerPro.

i used to love poweramp, i just think its ugly as crap. beats eq sounds perfect for alot of music i listen to. metal, rock, techno, etc. its also annoying having 3rd partys apps, just makes your phone run slower
Hi guys,
Any ideas what would be the best music player (MP3) app and earphones to go with the S3?
I'm currently on the stock earphones, and it sounds kind of flat, even with live 7.1 switched on.
Any good recommendations?
Sony EX510
Sound magic e10
monster turbine gold (these are quite expensive but they sound amazing and have a lifetime warranty)
http://www.head-fi.org/f/103/portable-headphones-earphones-and-in-ear-monitors
The best will cost you more than the phone itself. It all depends on your budget, but that link above will guide you. Probably the best forum on earphones out there.
Best app?
If you're an audiophile and want the best sound quality then it has to be neutron player but that has a horrible ui.
Poweramp would be my second choice where the ui is more friendly and mainstream and the sound quality is still noticeably better than the maintstream music apps out there.
P.S every single person in that earphone forum will slam you if you even so much as hint that beats headphones sound good.
Monster Beats Solo HD + Play Music (v4.3.605.392829 (jellyBean)
very nice
I prefer earphones such as the AKG K324(P)
to fat headphones.
However the best earphones only bring so much if the Samsung-software has limitations.
You should get the Siyahkernel which ports the old Voodoo from S1 to the S3 and bring an awesome quality boost. Enabling Dynamic Range and setting Bassboost to "small speaker" further increments the experience.

This thread here is a review of 200+ earphones grouped into different price brackets for easy viewing:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/478568/mul...00-monster-miles-davis-trumpet-added-06-19-12
Pick your price bracket and read through the reviews of the earphones that fall in that range. The people in that forum are way more experienced in this area than the majority of posters here who will end up recommending you the wrong thing.
It's like going on a car forum and then asking them whats the best rom to use on your phone. The majority of posters would be of no actual help to you and you're better off asking people who are more knowledgeable on the topic.
Switch off 7.1. Majority of music for consumers is stereo so just 2.0. 7.1 would modify it further from the way it was meant to be heard. Also if you haven't done so already make sure your mp3's have a bit rate of 320kbps or are in a lossless format.
1. Ultimate Ears Triple fi 10 Earphones
2. PowerAmp[1] Pro[2]
3. Your music in .flac
My combination exactly.
We have dif ears and taste in music... no one can tell you what's best except your ears... Source (S3) is already good sounding, what you need is a good medium (no lower than 256kbps mp3/aac or even loseless FLAC) and a good player app (Poweramp)... Headphones? its for you to decide... Music to my ears might be noise for you (example: most of people likes bass, a lot of lows... not for me, i hate artificial bass thats why i hate the Hiphop Genres and alike... im more of classical/jazz guy, so i have to choose what headphone that suits to my prefered genres) .. Hope this help

Why are there no sound mods for our phone? I set a poll, so please vote. Please use it to motivate a development. Can we get better sq for our EVO? After the new update Beats Audio doesn't sound as good anymore. It is missing the Beats eq profiles. This also happen on both the oneX OTA as well.
I find the sound quality to be just fine on my Evo. You can only get so much out of a device that isn't designed mainly to play music. If I wanted top quality audio, I'd be carrying around a dedicated MP3 player with expensive headphones and a portable amp, but when I want to listen to music on the go or at the gym that's just not realistic.
If you're worried about SQ, never use Beats. It ruins the overall quality of the music. I would suggest tweaking the EQ yourself.

What are some of the better eq out there that works for our phone. I tried DSP with no luck with headphones..
I find sound a bit lacking but I do love bass and the atomic headphones I bought deliver just that, honestly its like there's a tiny amp in my head
Had a Samsung Epic Touch and hell yeah I am satisfied with sound quality. I plugged in to car's aux input and the Beats kicked in and made the rental car stereo sound great. Also the fact that you can now use poweramp and volume+ together and with built in Beats...there are options

A good set of headphones makes a huge difference. I just bought a pair of klipsch reference 1 headphones and the sound is great, especially if you have fairly high bit rate mp3's. Amazon is offering 250kbps songs which sound pretty outstanding.
I definitely recommend atomic head phones, they are relatively cheap and many many reviewers have said they match the performance of a pair of basic $99 shure ear buds. They are designed for bass but you can easily raise the highs and mids to compensate. I tested my pair with some bass heavy music and carefully raised the bass in equalizer and then boosted it in tone and then adjusted virtualizer (stereo expansion) to see how far I can reliably push the drivers and these things are absolutely clear coming from a 320kbps file and power amp. It really really sounds like an amp is in your head. For $30 these things are sick!
I like it so far. The quality is great, but that's coming from a guy who can't really tell the difference.
I got Xperia Neo V for testing, and being an audiophile I am, one of the first things I've tested is sound equality.
Also, being an audiophile I am, I hate having any sound enhancers, SRS, beats audio etc. (other than rarely a bit of EQ).
First thing i noticed is rather bass-heavy, dark sound, and not really the best accuracy and limited soundstage. Not really the best I've heard. Instantly came to me that it may be caused by some kind of sound enhancer, but I've already disabled what was there to disable(and it was only for speakers).
Is there any hidden enhancer(driver, or a background tool/process) in stock rom, or is it how this phone really sound?
I've already tried non-stock player(mixzing), but it's still the same.
Yes in stock gingerbread, there is a dirty base sound that's why most people use a sound mod but in ICS or jellybean there is no need.
Try Xenoamp from the market, the built in eq alters system eq only, no extra mods, also has an inbuilt headphone calibrator

Use TTPOD or (even better) Rockbox
I've been pursuing better sound quality ever since I got this phone - at first it sounded significantly worse than Nationite N2 mp3 player or my old Panasonic discman.
So I tried PowerAmp and the sound was even worse with everything disabled. Then came Neutron, which did actually improve in transparency from Xperia S GB player.
Then I tried TTPod 3.6 translated by shardul_seth IIRC - what an improvement! The sound was really clear, with good bass contour and sharpness to the treble.
One day I decided to try Rockbox again (the first time it didn't work). I like the interface better than TTPod. As for the sound - at the first glance it was comparable, but since I tried Brainwavz B2 earphones the difference is apparent. Rockbox has better soundstage/imaging, treble that is sparklinh without being overly sharp and fast, transparent bass. Actually the bass was more hard-hitting and full on TTPod, but it just intergrates with the music better on Rockbox.
But the biggest improvement was in the midrange - on B2 it came really powerful, clear and weighty, more physical. TTPod would play mids in a more distant, grey, uncolored but boring way - that's not the case with rockbox.
I have too little posts to post the direct link so to find Rockbox replace the underscore with a dot
rasher_dk/rockbox/android/
I'm using it with Codename 8 GB Rom, tried different roms with ICS, JB, Beats, XSIncrediblebass - to me the "pure" roms sounded the same, while the enchancements sounded way worse, very muddy.
If you like the sound I'd like to hear your feedback
I also tried the Xperia Fidelity script, but it is more of a placebo difference. The same guy wrote Fidelizer for Windows, though - and it does noticeably improve the sound.
i use volume +
It has different mode for headphones/bluetooth and speakers
So for example i have max BASS at headphones BUT i have setted speakers to no bass and increased sound quality
@roladyzator
Thanks a lot for your post!
Main problem with the sound was that I use FA eterna, and that bloated bass, suppressed highs and limited soundstage was exactly the worse sound you can give to those iems.
At first installed rockbox... what. a. difference. Totally different sound. Finally can listen to that. I wasn't too satisfied with UI though.
Decided to try TTPOD too. Wow, this UI is exactly what I was looking for. Sound was good too. More distant than Rockbox, bass a bit bloated, but I can live with that. Excellent player. Finally made me stop missing the iPhone.
I posted that thread more out of curiosity(got father's neo V just for a few day testing), cause I'm switching to Desire S soon, but I'm really glad I asked. Finally found my player of choice. Thanks again!
btw. any idea how desire s sounds? good enough?

480x800, works fine for me.
thepgo,
I know it's slighty OT, but I just can't help myself but recommend to you Brainwavz ProAlpha earphones.
I am well acquainted with FA Eterna and they are really not the best IEMs for android smartphones. They all sound muddy and need an earphone that has speed and resolution to compensate that.
ProAlphas have very good detail and treble extension and fast, full and hard hitting bass. The bass is not of high volume, but doesn't roll off quickly (the mid-bass doesn't dominate the lower end of the spectrum), actually very fun and energetic. While being good at analysis, they don't sound overly sharp or lean at all (like Head-Direct RE-0, which have totally anemic bass and ear piercing treble. IMO ProAlphas are RE-0 done right). They are cheap (~40$) so you could use them as an alternative to Eternas.
I would write it if it wasn't for superb pairing of these with smartphones. Aside from B2s these are best for my Neo V. Better than Westone 1, Fischer A151, Meelectronics CC51 (which are similair to proalpha, but have less bass and coloured treble - the extra sparkle makes it sound the same across different records, which for me is a no-no). My friend with HTC Wilfire S also preferred them. Another friend has HTC One V. He sold Phonak Audeo 112 (he had all three types of filters, so three adjustable sound signatures) to buy Proalpha, and stayed with them ever since.
If you can try those out somewhere don't hesitate. These are the best earphones you will find in this price range, showing detail that is not beaten by ones like Audeo or Westone 1, while having fairly neutral tone and sparkly, fun, energetic sound.
Thanks for the recommendation, but I'll pass
When it comes to brighter iems, I already got K370 - sq probably around the same level as proalpha.
Next time I'll dive into my pocket, I'm probably going for vsonic gr06
I was thinking about gr06 too, I wonder if it works well with android smartphones. Never had any of those midrange-happy earphones
Hey guys
Last week I had lost my xb90
So now I am looking around for a new headset i found these three
1- Sony MDR-NC31
2- Sony MDR-NC750
3- Sony Xba-a1ap
I had never try the Digital Noise Canceling headset so i am just confused about them..
Can anyone tell me that there is any difference in terms of sound quality between Sony NC31 and NC750..
Specially after updating to (MM 6.0) because Sony clams that NC750 will support Hi-Res audio..
Please reply
Thanks..

I'll recommend MDR-XB70AP (INR 2500/-) ebay offer price.
@ present i'm using SONY XBA-A1AP (INR 6500/-) bought from ebay.
I got the SOUNDMAGIC E50 which are amazing looking and it`s an amazing feeling with that memory foam technology for a better feeling and more clearance and a better bass. a must have is the BASSULTIMATE v10 +beta33 SOUNDMOD for the Z2 MM! MUCH BETTER HEADPHONE EXPERIENCE WITHOUT ANY CRACKLING
I have used
SoundMagic ES18
Sennheiser cx180
and now Sony MDR-XB50AP.
I've used:
-Sennheiser Cx300-II Precision.
-Sony MDR NC31EM.
-Sennheiser MM30g.
-JBL T100A.
-HTC Black In-Ear.
-HTC Max 300.
-Sony MDR NC750.
-JBL T280A.
If you want good bass; I'd recommend Cx300-II;
if you want good mids; I'd recommend T280A;
if you want good upper tones; I'd recomment T280A;
However, if you want to listen your music the better, louder, richer, clearer way; then you need an HTC One M8 or another upper HTC device with the black In-Ear HTC earphones. Sony is really bad at audio quality.
As for the NC31EM and NC750M, the so called "noise cancelling" cancels the noice by making some "hiss" sound at a very low decibel so your ears think it doesn't hear anything from the outer world.
However, any of the JBL or Sennheiser in-ear phones have better noice cancelling than these headsets. Their microphones are on the ear sides, so the call quality is terrible.
As for the music, they don't give anything promising in their price-range, they're just "SONY" .
The mids are very loud, I mean VERY loud, compared to upper and lower tones, they just eat your ear on high volumes, even without modding volume levels.
So you'll be wasting your money if you buy one of these.

Wait, what? The Sony's are amazing at audio quality, I should know, I have an Xperia Z2. HTC's skewer the audio towards more bass, heck too much bass, they ruin the mids and highs completely. It was worse when they had the Beats Audio tech, but it was improved with the M9, I can only speak on audio of the M9 because that's what I had experience with.
I played 'With Love' album, some Above & Beyond, a couple of songs from Monstercat, and some Frank Ocean, and the HTC's boosted the bass way too much on all of them and squashed the Mids and Highs. The Xperia by comparison was more accurate, it did put less bass than the HTC, but didn't squash the highs and mids to get there. Granted, the HTC did sound louder and the Xperia was quieter in comparison, (used with Sol Republic Tracks V8, LG Tonepro HBS 760 and Samsung Level Active Bluetooth In-earphones. Heck, I even used a Logitech G230 Gaming Headset.) but in terms of how the songs project I'd prefer the Xperia because they sound more real and not artificial. Also, the Xperias have SIGNIFICANTLY more granular tweaking with the audio quality.
My friend swears by her NC31EM used with Xperia Z3 Compact, they do block out almost all noise (except when screaming directly next to her) and the sound is well balanced and there's a good kick of bass...
I'm using xiaomi hybrid, good sound quality per price but when I turn on fm radio all I hear is headset's microphone sound... ?
