Need some Dev to figure this out... - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Vibrant's GPS only works fine with Macnut R10, no other version of Macnut or any other ROM (Team W,ASOp,Axura,JK2 stock, etc). Only works with Macnut R10. I checked the GPS files and they seems to be the same, so I'm going crazy trying to figure out what else is different so I can make my GPS work on other ROMS...
It's like this,,, After Flashing any ROM I go to lbsTest, Delete GPS Data and then Test GPS,,, I'm using the same exact location to the the test with all the ROMS, after 1 minute I only get 2 or 3 birds, but non in use, after 2 minutes I get between 6 to 10, but still non in use., after 4 to 5 minutes I get connected to 3 or 4 and thats it...
Now, If I flash Macnut R10, and do the same steps,,, in less than 3 seconds I get 10 birds in view and in less than 10 seconds I got connected to 6. This happens every time I do the test.. I have done the test several times with the same results.
At first I though it was the kernel... but after flashing the JK2 kernel the GPS still working just fine.
I'm running my Vibrant on At&t if that can help to find the answer...
Thanks...
PS... before someone else say it... Yes I did the steps to Delete the GPS Data, change to Cold start, get the birds, reboot, etc,etc,..... that does not work as soon as I restart my phone its gone...
Thanks

Interesting! Considering my only disappointment with this phone is the GPS and I am having the same issues with Obsidian and every other ROM, I will download Macnut, that I haven't tried.

Did you Odin in between ROMs?
most of the time settings carry over even after the system has been wiped. Odin is a surefire way to get a clean install on a phone.
I've run most ROMs and on all of them my GPS has worked without a hitch, I can usually get a lock in less than a minute at the most.
If it's not working out for you at first, drive around in your car with GPSTest running so it can re learn. You probably don't even need to clear out GPS data under lbstest

GPS was solid but now? )-:

So a little about my phone. I am running a custom ROM Fusion 1.1 with a custom Kernel from Team Whiskey Core V3 2.1 also have OCLF. My phone right after flashing the new ROM seemed to lock on quickly to several Sats 5 plus every time. But for no reason and with no adjustments to the default settings I now have a very hard time locking on to any Sats. Takes 10 plus minutes and only can get a few to lock.
So the only things I have changed on my phone recently is trying a few different Kernels. Would this even effect the GPS sat locks at all? I would think not but??
Anyone have anything new that I have yet to read about that they have tried that seems to make the GPS better?
My phone's GPS might just suck who knows.
Thanks in advance!
Did you try digital toddys fix?

Yea I did.. Just went outside and switched to Cold then delete GPS data ran fix for 10 minutes and got a lock on 4 sats. Switched back to Hot and didn't seem to help much.
You did the reboots and everything?
Odd man, if that didn't work I am at a loss. Hopefully others can chime in for you.
I would think the ROM is what affects GPS signal the most. I was running Bionix 1.9 with KK kernel and the GPS was money. Now running Obsidian V1 (didn't switch to V2 because I read people were having GPS issues on it), and GPS still works great. In fact, when using Car Home, it shows the exact street address I am at.

from what i understand, yes a different kernel can affect gps because the kernel contains the drivers. it is my understanding that this is why the 2.2 roms have working gps now: an 'official' kernel was leaked and the gps drivers were pulled from it. however the rom will also affect gps. for example, i was running bionix 1.9.1 and gps was great, flashed bionix final and gps went to ****, flashed fusion 1.2 and gps was working again.

Rom Kernel Modem, Stable with GPS.

I've tried literally every Rom for my vibrant as they came out over time...and and my GPS sometimes work and don't. Mounting and random little glitches. The most stable rom I've used is 2.1 Stock, and I justed flashed 2.2 Stock. Whats everyone opinions? I thinking decent GPS. XD

Try using gps aids from the market.

Have you tried digitaltoddys fix? It's in the general sticky (signature).
Trigger works perfect for me.
The Trigger or the Axura both provide pretty good GPS. Both, I get 10-15 sats with 5-7 lock 20-40 sec average.
Also, GPS aids and the digitaltoddys fix both work as well. You just have to experiment with them. Plus, when you first test (after fresh flash) you need to let it find for about 3-5 mins for 1st run, after that flawless.......... at least for me
GPS seems very strange in my experience and may depend on your location. Personally I've found KB1 and bionix v 1.3 or trigger to be the best, while others have issues getting locks on this modem. It may be due to hardware differences, but it's tough to narrow it down. Best bet is to experiment and see what works best for you.
I've been using the stock 2.2 and GPS locks instantly. No Mounting issues or data problems. Completely Awesome.
I've using axura without any issue. GPS usually lock within a couple of seconds.

GPS takes > 1 minute to lock on GB ported drivers

My GPS worked fine on Froyo (7 to 10m accuracy) but with any of the currently ported Gingerbread GPS drivers, it takes a minute or even more time to lock. I tried Simply Honey and Hybrid GB ROM and it takes 10 minutes to lock on first boot and should be instant afterwards. I have tried rebooting and reflashing but no luck. Renamed angrygps.apk back and forth but the issue still persists.
Just wanted to know if everyone has this issue or just me ?
better to post this in there respected threads!!
Using GPS testing software mine also takes a little longer than it did in Froyo to lock. However if I leave wireless assist on google maps finds me almost instantly. By the time I've entered an address and initiated nav the GPS is locked....
I'm willing to live with a little longer lock times to run GB for now.

It's more luck than anything it even works. We'll have to wait for our own drivers (aka a leak) for it to work well

Thank you for getting it to work without a leak yet
Just wanted to know if its normal behaviour.
I would be thankful it locks at all.. mine doesnt
Mine takes like 10 minutes to lock. lol.
I usually don't need GPS but it's good to have. Now I would love to have a working wificalling on either 2.2.1 or 2.3.4

[Q] GPS Broken Broken

Hello well not sure but I think my GPS is "broken broken" like maybe something hardware related but just wanna to check with you guys first instead of doing anything drastic.
I think I first noticed when i was on a build of trigger(cm based) that the GPS kept searching for location and unscessfully tried the CM7 GPS script. I then just decided to Odin back to stock and getting the same results GPS wise. I also tried Nandroiding back to a ROM that knew GPS worked when i use to use it(toxic w7 clone) but still no luck. Also worth noting that while on Stock Odin I tried some different Market based GPS fixes(GPS Restore GPS Aids).
Any help would be appreicated thx
some people have working gps, some dont. mine kind of works but it takes forever to lock.

Did your GPS work in the past?
I used a 2.2 build of Trigger a little bit back, and it did the same thing to my phone. I have a "fixed" hardware GPS antenna (since I did the FFC mod, fixing the GPS at the same time was a piece of cake), so when I suddenly couldn't get any GPS signal, I knew something was most definitely up. I tried the sgps "fixes" to no avail.
Eventually I flashed CM7 (since gps wasn't working either way, at that point), then Odin'd to stock, then flashed Bionix 1.3.1, and suddenly at some point it fixed itself. Now my GPS is back to working on CM7, as well as 2.2 roms.
So, if your GPS used to work fine, there was something software-wise which screwed it up.
Do yourself a favor and call TMobile. Tell them that your GPS doesn't work and you'd like a replacement. Do it three times and get a completely different phone for free.
The Vibrant is a POS at best.

Yeah this what I meant by drastic but probably my only real solution, wonder how that works though im pretty sure I'm paying for some replacement/warranty but that's only if they find out it is broken or defective right?
So glad i bought a Vibrant for my birthday as my 1st smartphone
Well I think I made some progress here, I Odin back to Eclair and to Bionix. GPS still wasn't working but GPS Test shows that there are some Satellites "in view" but not "in use" weird...

[Q] Speed Up Satellite Fix for GPS

I was messing around in the Android Apps and Games forum and found this post. So then I wanted to share it with you guys.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239713
My question is... could this be used in any way to improve our development?
As if this "fix" could be built into our ROMs or radios or SOMETHING to connect to a GPS quicker?
Just a thought...
I think the agps pstch does the same thing. Also GPS status from the market can do the same thing.

I think all these GPS fixes dont do anything personally....a long time ago someone suggested to get a satellite fix, then reinstall the ROM and it will lock almost instantly every time. And it has been working for over a year. I have done it to 3 different thunderbolts besides my own and worked. I never use these "fixes." Im no pro at this software stuff but trial and error is my expertise and when it works perfectly every time on multiple of the same device, id say thats the best way to do it.

I mostly agree. I just went through this process, having gone from a Sense-based ROM (BAMF SOAB 1.4) to an AOSP-based ROM (Thundershed 1.6). Despite the new ROM having the AGPS fix baked in, I still wasn't getting a GPS, so I made a nandroid, flashed back to an old nandroid I had of SOAB, opened up Google Maps, to get a satellite, then opened up GPS Status (from the Play Store, free) to find the strongest lock I could (9 out of 9 satellites), then immediately went to reboot into recovery and restored my Thundershed nandroid. I then opened up Google Maps then GPS Status again, found I was locked onto 10 of 10 satellites, and I was good to go.

I agree with him. GPS don't do much anymore. The 4g signal does more than the GPS. You could not run a GPS app without data connection. basically all they use gps for is to find exact location. And soon i think that they will probably discontinue gps in a phone!
