Ok, so now that we all have Froyo or at at least most of us. I find that the general feeling toward the Dell Stage widgets is negative. My question is what is everyone else using for widgets? I'm having a heck of a time trying to find widgets that scale with the screen. Everything seems to place the widgets in the wrong place because of the screen size. For example one of my favourite widgets is TypoClock. However the widget can't seem to find the TOP MIDDLE of my screen like it looks in ALL the Nexus One screen shoots with it. It always hangs to the left of the screen. Has anyone modded certain widgets to fit the screen better? There is a post, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761517 ,that shows some AMAZING Themes and set ups but I can't seem to get anything to look that good on the Streak. If anyone has a sweet Theme or look to their Streak and could you please post a screen shoot and how you did it. PLEASE!
I think your better off ultimately changing the UI itself and get either ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro. I've just brought Launcher Pro Plus ($2.99/£1.95) and its def worth it as its so customizable, you can set the layout grid size and then manually alter the size of the widgets in real time. I tried to use Dell's Stage and just didn't like it, so much wasted space and it felt like a poor HTC Sense UI.

Since the day the Galaxy s came I've fallen in with loved Touchwiz as matter of fact it is one of the reason i will not be trading in my Vibrant for Nexus s, well until touchwiz is ported nexus s at least.
But I've notice others with vibrant and other galaxy s phones hate Touchwiz and i want to know why? Please leave response as to why you love or hate touchwiz?
I like some things about TouchWiz...but...
its not customisable
the icons are too big and iphone-like
a lot of screen real estate is lost because everything on the homescreen is too big (should have grids of 5x5 instead of 4x4)
I like the app drawer...jumping to screens when clicking the small dots etc
and its quite fast for me
I really like touchwiz to. I tried launcher pro and adw and i really didnt like them. But i did just installed nero from tw and the gingerbread launcher is sweet.
Fear the beard...
For me it's not so much the TW Launcher as it is the widgets. I've found that I really use Feeds & Updates and Daily Briefing quite a lot, and though there are vaguely comparable ones, none of them have grabbed me.
The notification bar is also unique and extremely useful, so much so that Cyanogen largely copied it.
I think the biggest reason why people hate Touchwiz is because it has been blamed for much of the initial lagginess of the phone. Now we know this is largely not true.
It's childs play to use another launcher however, and people may prefer widgets that do not bind to TW. To each his own, which is the true beauty of Android.
What I don't like about TouchWiz:
-the page indicator on top can't be turned off or set to auto-hide
-the dockbar icon labels don't match the rest of the UI (they don't have black bubbles around the text, it looks mismatched)
-cannot change the number of rows on homescreens
-no swipe actions (ADW ruined me for swiping down anywhere on the screen to get the notification pulldown)
-no activities shortcuts (Wireless AP requires a shortcut!)
-seems to run slower/laggier than ADW or launcherpro
What I do like about TouchWiz:
-FEEDS AND UPDATES
-FEEDS AND UPDATES
-FEEDS AND UPDATES
Soooo much better than the Facebook widget...
Edit: I use ADW.Launcher myself and love it. I really miss Feeds & Updates though.
The app drawer can not scroll like a stock android launcher.
The docks can not be customizable to the level Android allows.
The icons look like an iPhone - AND I hate scrolling left to right (and I dont like the view for scrolling up/down)
I switch ROMs often, TW does not backup it's settings like LP/ADW can.
Other than those things, TW is great... I also prefer the widgets that come with LauncherPro Plus and the speed/customizations that it allows. TW COULD be able to duplicate those features..... but until it does, no thanks.
I love touchwiz. Love the left to right scrolling of the app drawer.love the look and feel. Love the icons. The dock icons are custamizable. This is one reason i dont like custom roms without touchwiz because i love it sooo much.
Things i hate. You cant hide the notification bar and it starts to Burn into your screen. Errrr
It's the iPhone clone look that turns me off. It was bad enough that the samsung made the phone look physically like an iPhone, but to skin Android to look like the iPhone's software was over the top. I don't want people to think I have an iPhone.
youre right

"I love that Google is innovating the Smartphone technology space at an amazing rate. Android is growing fast and holds so much promise. For instance Google voice actions which I am sure you are all familiar with is such a great idea and I cant wait to use it with 2.2. The updated Gmail client and services as well, Chrome to phone are both awesome ideas but will never work on 2.1 so I am looking forward to 2.2 or higher. I own a car and well I do take calls while driving and would like to use voice search or voice dialing to be hands free. Obviously Android can do this just not with 2.1 this is a pretty cool feature also available on 2.2 or higher. What Samsung has done with Touchwiz is pretty cool too. Let's face it Google is perhaps innovating the space a bit too fast. Samsung has developed Touchwiz not only to slow that hectic innovation down. But, perhaps stall it completely on Samsungs devices that way we can enjoy 2.1 with Touchwiz just a little bit longer. It also sets the Galaxy S devices apart from all the other Android smartphones in the market running Google's latest innovations. But also because we like it and it is so good.
That new android Keyboard for Gingerbread is just what the Doctor ordered isn't it? How about the new Google personalized voice recognition for Google voice? Nice, but no thanks I like taking it slow with Touchwiz and 2.1. Who needs location services and GPS anyway right? What are your favorite 2.1 features?" - by Countbunny from the other forum.
That is how I feel about it.
im comin out from the htc inpire, and now has the atrix, and when i use widgets/adwlauncher/adwdock/ they dont seem to take up the whole space in the homescreen, when i use adw launcher the docks are not extended all the way. is there a workaround to this?
It's because the density is a bit lower on the Atrix. I supposed if your phone is rooted and used LCD Density Changer app, you can put it back to normal. Haven't tested the app out yet though...
check out these comments about th home screen
Let’s start with the homescreen. With the Atrix 4G’s higher resolution, Motorola felt it was necessary to size down the homescreen so that objects fit in at their native resolution for an 800 x 480 phone. But, any widget I tried from an external developer was able to stretch just fine using a replacement launcher. It’s a little annoying to have this big border around your homescreen since it serves no purpose.

in the screenshots thread Ive seen homescreens that are fullscreen, docks that stretched all the way....?
It is because of the higher density; right now I'm using a launcher with just one screen; composed of the moto messaging, wifi, GPS, calamder, and clock with something else.
I like the Widgets and the way they look. Definitely love the screen though.

I just installed CM7 on my Nook and I'm trying to get my home screen setup. For some reason there seems to be a lot of wasted space between rows. Is there anyway to adjust this? My widgets are also getting stretched way across the screen.
You are using Gingerbread, not ICS, so no, widget is not resizable.
You can move it, you can stretch it and it snaps automatically in a certain region.
I know it's ugly, I feel you.

I use ADW.Launcher EX on my nook and it works wonderfully. You can.change the amount of columns and rows that the desktop has and then drag Widgets to resize them. You can also set it to use HDPI.Icons on the MDPI Nook and it makes them look big and clear. I would recommend spending the money on it, its worth it.

To begin with, I'm far from new to Android, just new to Samsung and the Note.
Also - I know I'm not the only one with this problem but I haven't run across a solution yet. I can take and image I want to use as a wallpaper and, on the lock screen and the Touch whiz home screen and it looks exactly like I want it to. But, since I'm one of those folks who dislikes the fact that I can't swap out apps on the TW launcher bar, I slap my own launcher on the Note to make it mine again. Unfortunately, then comes the annoying part.......
Whatever photo I put up as wallpaper looses resolution and seems to explode in size so that only about 1/4 of the original wallpaper/ photo is visible and what's left is very blurry. I know this isn't limited to just one launcher - I've tried ADW, Launcher Pro, Nemus, Go Launcher, Holo, and a few more I can't remember the names of right now. And they all give me the same problem.
So far I've changed the format of the wallpaper photo to .png or .jpeg and back again, tweaked the size and resolution of the picture, dug through XDA and a few other forums fort wisdom, and used harsh language on my Note - all to no avail. So, can anyone tell me what I'm missing or if there's any hope for me at all? I'm rooted stock 2.3.6 and would prefer, for various reasons, to stay that way for now. But, at this point I'm willing to consider options if all else fails since I'm getting quite annoyed by this.
Thanks for any help/ insight!
Use the Quickpic app to set the wallpaper.
Thanks! I'll give that a shot.

Hello, do any of you use this app?
It seems no matter what widget I try, they don't look how they are supposed to on the GT 10.1. I have fumbled through the settings, etc... not seeing anything that might fix it.
I'm at a loss.
For example: Text not appearing with the rest of the widget, graphics separated instead of overlapping, etc.
Any tips? Thanks!
Try using a launcher that allows you to resize widgets, then try to find the right homescreen grid size that gives you the desired look. Also remember that the widget will look different in landscape mode then it will in portrait. Fancy widgets is one of those that looks great on phones but not so great on tablets. I think the developer of the app needs to optimize it a bit more for tablets.

Thanks! I'll try out some different launchers.
I got so used to the stock one that I hadn't even bothered to try a different one on my tablet.
