I search since one week after a working SMS blocker for my HD2...
The OS is: Artemis v32 with WM 6.5.5 COM5 Build 23577
I test the free CallFirewall v1.4 with all possible settings, it doesn't work

Everyday I get more than 10 SMS from a creepy little ba... I hate him so much!
First I would sent a SMS to the person requesting that he stops sending SMSs to you. If he keeps on, then contact your mobile phone company about the harassment you are getting. They may be able to block that number or even pass your complaint to the person's mobile phone company - as it is more that likely a breach of the terms & conditions or even pass it to the police (telephone harassment in the UK is a criminal offence and it may be also in Germany).
I sent him 3 SMS in the last weeks that he stops sending SMS's to me.
For him its a joke! A 25years old man without friends, he think its funny... oh man
This evening I will call him for a little conversation, tell him what's are this options.
But I think it won't be better after...
If anyone have a working block software for me, also shareware please tell me, so I can forget him... everyday SMS, every hour... it makes me CRAZY!!!!!!
It's not what you asked for but, there is at least one denial of service app (sends hundreds of sms, crashing/freezing the phone of the recipient) on this site somewhere, and also a class zero sms sender (so they would be anonymous).
If you have unlimited sms you could crash his phone for a while, though you would be no better than him and subject to the same laws.

The answering machine idea is kinda cool, but really probably wouldn't save much on system usage, at least in the US. When someone calls in and goes to voice mail, that call is free. When you call to check it, you pay for that. So...if the incoming call is answered and recorded by the device, then you will pay for that. Net result--same cost. Actually it could cost more, because you could retrieve multiple voice mails in one call, but each call in would cost you at least a minute.
Its about functionality
It is not so much about cost as about functionality. Think of all the fun stuff you could do if you could program your own voicemailbox. Use callerid, special voicemail dropbox functions, only let your best friends ring you normally and dump the rest to the voicemail....
The idea of selective calling is very good--but would not need a voice mail system on the XDA, since it could just pass on the "deny" command when the call comes in. This could be useful for those times you don't want to be disturbed unless it is critical. Of course, you could do fun things with your own voicemail like having funny outbound messages only for certain people. I used to have that on my landline PC-based voice mail using CID. Actually it occasionally had a business pupose as I could leave custom messages for clients. Since you can already record phone calls, it doesn't seem like it would be very difficult for a programmer to play a message and then start recording.
In the US, the voicemail systems use CID to allow you to return a call directly from voicemail, for example. Used to be that my carrier would send the CID with the voicemail notification SMS, which was handy, but they stopped now for some reason. How are things like that in Europe?

When the XDA receives the call and records it like the mailbox of the provider it won't cost me a Cent. Only the caller has to pay. Like the answering machine at home.
That thing with "...only let your best friends ring you normally and dump the rest to the voicemail..." would be nice too. Like the little proggi CALLERID where you can attach different pictures to different callerid's.

So what's to keep people from making a one-minute call just to say, "Call me back" and getting their calls free?
It's kinda amazing that this kind of software is not around (yet). Would be very cool to carry a pda+cellphone+answering_machine in one device. And it would save me the money my telco charges me for listening to my voicemails aswell!

The caller pays the charge so it is never free. Actually in the UK, it does cost slightly more to call a mobile.
That's interesting to learn. Long ago when cellular was still analog here in the US and cost $0.35/minute, we had the option of having incoming caller pay services or not. The mobile user decided which to use. It was not very successful because of our antiquated phone systems compared to Europe's, and there were a number of ways to beat the system. All of that completely disappeared when Sprint PCS first launced at $75/1500 minutes and completely turned the cellular world upside-down.
I haven't seen any discussion of the main reason I would like this capability - to be able to listen to my messages while I'm on a plane. The answering machine idea wouldn't save me any money, but I'd love to be able to listen to messages when I'm out of range, in a bad building, or on a plane. I wish someone would develop this. I'd buy it.
Now that is finally a reason I can get behind. My travel schedule recently backed down to infrequent, but I don't know how many times I paid $2/minute to use an air phone in the last couple years, just to get my voice mail and make notes/tasks for call backs, etc.

There is another reason that I would like this. Every time someone leaves me a voice mail, T-Mobile sends me a SMS to tell me that. I only get so many SMS messages each month and I have to pay for them. If the bulk of my calls were received and recorded on the PDA, I wouldn't have this problem.
Another thing, sometimes I retrieve a voice mail and there's information in it that I have to take down. If I don't get it right, I can't go back and check the message again, unless I saved it, which I usually don't, and then it would cost me again to go back and listen to it again. I just like the idea of having the information locally, under my control. Then the fun things that could be done with caller ID and customized greetings would be icing on the cake.
Any programmers reading this? My son works for T-Mobile and he tells me that they are selling the PDA/phone like hotcakes. Now AT&T is selling it, too.
I'm 99% sure the voicemail notification SMS does NOT account against your allotment. Also, if you have GPRS, that gives you another 300 or 500 SMS messages per month.

Interesting. That would be software, definitely. As usual, the Jornadas come with so much more bundled than most. I can't believe they're being dropped in favor of the crapPAQ.
So what would be the chances of being able to copy that program from the Jornada 928 and getting it to work on the XDA/T-Mobile?
Probably not high. I have tried to copy other extras off the Jornada 568 and I get a message saying that you cannot copy programs stored in ROM. So it's only possible if either the program also comes on the Jornada CD (worth a look) or someone knows how to get around the copy protection on the ROM.
I've looked at the list of software on the CD and it's not listed, but I don't have access to an actual CD. Anyone know how to copy this program from the 568 ROM?
I have a black list of contacts. I want block incoming and outgoing sms for this contacts. How block incoming sms I know, but how about outgoing sms?
Please, help me with this task.

It's not so easy
I want to block some contacts, so that my children never have written to them
I can think of 2 options quickly:
1. Don't let the kids use the phone
2. Buy them their own phone
I suppose an application could be created to do what you want. Or maybe something like adding a password to certain entires in you Contacts.
I'm actually finishing-up an app that functions as a SMS spam blocker; maybe my next app will be adding a password function to Contacts.
Just checked android default sms app and sms content provider source code, it looks like it's not possible to intercept and cancel outgoing message. It's a pity that we're not able to add this functionality to our future parental control app.
I'm not overly impressed with whomever coded the SMS and Contacts databases and have given considerable thought to writing my own. I found this out when writing my SpamText blocker which I kind of put on the back-burner due to fear of deleting ALL text messages from someone's phone. That whole "thread_id" is scary, at least to me.
I like the "conversations" feature of SMS, but it really should be broken-down by day or make any text in the conversation deleteable. I might get 10 texts from one person in a day, but just might want to save 4 of them because they have some valuable information.
Then there is a security issue with coding this type of application; Android gives the developer a lot of rope regarding messaging.
If your children are the one whos playing with your phone, why don't you use one of those pw locking apps? You can choose to lock whichever app you want with it.

I think the use case is just to allow children to sms and call to fixed numbers only.

You can't delete individual texts? What?
Nope, at least on my Droid X default SMS client. All distinct phone numbers and SMS messages are grouped together in a "conversation" no matter if that person texts 10 times in one day or 100 times over 6 months.
I know you can set a message limit, but I'm not sure what it does if you set it to 5 and get the 6th message from the same #; maybe someone else knows...
I have been searching for blocking outgoing test messages also but for a different reason.
I live near the border and allthough my phone is set to only my home network every now and than it switches to roaming and pretty often I send text messages by accident while roaming. Sometimes it switches networks while I am typing the message or it looses connection and I am at the mercy of which network it will connect and send the text message.
So an app that would block outgoing text messages while roaming (or maybe even only sending on home network) would come in very handy.
Why don't you just delete the contacts? Easiest solution

You should read my post! Obviously I need all my contacts to call/text whenever I am not roaming!
I m also interested in blocking outgoing msg to specific number, my wife is Canada so she send me msgs from her canadian phone no. and I reply to serbian one, which is free - included in my monthly fee, but every now and than i reply to her canadian which costs me, and it wouldnt be big of a deal, but my courier dont have contract with hers so they charge for the sms, which she doesnt receive, so was trying to find a way to block outgoing msg to her canadian no. but need to be able to receive from it

As far as I know there is no way of intercepting outgoing messages. very strange that we can do almost anything on a smartphone but have very limited control over basic operations like sending text message options.
Same goes for LED notification, should be standard on all phones. (2 of my biggest annoyances espcially as it concerns very basic phone operations)
Android system does not provide a way to block outgoing SMS.
The similar question was discussed on Android Developers hung out on
26-Apr-2012, and Android Developers stated clearly that it is not
possible.
One suggestion was to put the phone into Airplane mode at the time of
sent SMS intent, but again its unlikely to put the phone into
airplane mode pro-grammatically.

want to block foreign sms's
I also have the above problem of my wife sending texts to foreign countries and getting charged. Usually she sends via fishtext which is affordable but every now and then if she is in a hurry or forgets to use the fishtext widget she sends via normal sms mode which costs a ton.
I cant believe there is no simple app to stop the user sending sms's.
Everyone has a 'cute' solution (like delete the contacts lol!) but they don't realise the difficulty of trying to manage another persons phone but one that you still have to pay the bills for e.g. kids or spouse.
Surely there must be an app out there that does this although I can currently find it!!!

It is always not easy when children are involved in any process They are so quick that sometimes it is difficult to notice that they have taken your phone and started pressing buttons. When you realize it, it is already late and the messages have been sent.
Why not get an app locker and lock the messaging app.
On a per contact basis, many apps have block features built in but not to block sms completely.

Some apps send messages without your consent.
And even some ROMs.
For example son phones (Xiaomi) with MIUI try to send an SMS to China to activate your SIM but they don't do it well, it doesn't work you spend money every time you reboot your phone.

Yes I know this question might have been asked before, at least at some length. But I am taking it a step further
A long while ago I tended to use voipbuster.com and their corresponding mobile app to send texts to my friends in the UK and US for cheap. Lately their service has been none existant and no texts has been delivered and thus forcing me to look for a replacement.
But what good and decent "online" texting services are there?. I dont mind paying a small fee pr text in order to avoid apps or get "assured" delivery rather then getting them for free and they are either full of spam, or they wont make it to the recipient. Naturally it would be perfect if the company suggested has a full Android app.
I did take a look at FishText, but they have no android app so they are not really of use to me, until they develop one. Also tried Haywire from Android Market and well it didn't really work to the level of stability that I want :/
So what other companies are there out there that can fulfill my requirements?. ANd other good ideas or suggestions are naturally welcome as well.

And thus it does not work for me :/. If it is required that the other person also has the app then its not a "Text message" sadly.
Perhaps I should have been more clear, but I am atually looking for a service that does not require the reciepients to have any special kind of app or software on their phones in order to recieve the messages
Been using an app called jelly sms, and after downloading the app it gives you the option to choose the sms carrier and have been using my cool sms as my sending option and the main advantage of my cool sms is after sending a text, in the app, if you then go on the web u can see the delivery report. It's saved me a tone texting to Africa, so can imagine, you will save more, sending to Europe. You have to topup though to get my cool sms credit, and you can also send texts online without using your phone. I must admit though the same app, is much better on the iPhone, as you get the delivery report in the app, nevertheless its a great and reliable way of sending.

That might actuallu do the trick. I am however more searching for a single service to sign up with / subscribe to rather then the massive list that Jelly SMS gives me. But if anyone can recommend any of the services listed inside Jelly then I am open ears.
But like i said I tried getting some credit for Voipbuster and it did work for some time but these days my messages are not getting through. Tried the Haywire app which isnt really working out either.
So I am looking for a service like FishText, but since they dont have an android app I cant use them..... And paying around 50 Cents for a text is just not appealing to me

I'm a UK Three customer using Omega 9.1 ROM (FW: XXBLG1 Modem:XXLFB CSC:H3GALE4).
I work a lot offshore, way out at sea so obviously no mobile connection whatsoever for weeks however we do have a small bandwidth internet connection on the ship.
There seems to masses of apps for being able to receive and send SMS messages via the internet but many seem country specific. I don't want anything too fancy just the ability to use text messages (and preferably free???). Ideally being able to retrieve my voice messages would be awesome as normally when I get home from 4 weeks at sea I have loads and loads of voice messages (I should change my answerphone message before I leave to "Please don't leave a message as I am at sea" but I always forget)
Can anyone recommend a good way of doing this please? I understand that HandcentSMS may have this feature but their website made it look a bit overkill for my needs.

Could possibly suggest you using Whatsapp, its free from the Google Play Store and you can send messages, pictures, videos and even recorded voices messages to other whatsapp users completely free over an internet connection.
It would mean that the people who want to contact you would also need to have the Whatsapp app on there phone but it can be downloaded on Apple devices, Blackberry, Android and on newer nokia devices aswell.
I understand this may not be a perfect solution and maybe some of the people you want to contact cant have Whatsapp on there phone but it could really help with those who can.

Out of interest someone who I worked with mentioned Google Talk but as far as I have read/searched this is just a "chat/instant message" application. Surely it doesn't access my SMS messages? As far as I assume, SMS messages go through my network provider(??). The issue I really want to surmount is just to be able to receive my SMS messages when I am at sea for weeks on end. It really is frustrating getting to within sight of land (normally Aberdeen) and as soon as I get mobile reception a million and one messages start pinging in some of which were sent weeks ago.

The person who had my number before me was apparently bad at even attempting to manage privacy, I get spam calls and texts for them pretty regularly. I had one scammer in particular get so angry with me that he hung up on me after 20 minutes of hassling me. Whatever group he worked with proceeded to harass me with over 100 calls in the next three days. It's gone back to a more "normal" level of spam but, lately, I'm getting shortlinks to payday loan sites.
I know how to report the SMS to my carrier, the FTC, and the FCC. I can report the shortlink to the shortening service and it immediately gets taken down.
The problem is that my phone has already "followed" the link and it shows up as a click. I can tell because the info page for the shortlink always shows a click from Chrome on Android.
I'm using Messenger and I'd prefer not to switch but I suppose I'm willing if it's the only option. There's a part of me that wants to use Verizon's messaging app because of its ability to text over Wifi and sync to the web client as well but it appears to have the same issue as Messenger and it's ugly as sin.
I'm using a Nexus 5X with stock Android.
