[Q] Anyone else experiencing Reboot with factory reset with 2.2? - Streak 5 Android Development

I have a strange problem i am trying to track down, this ONLY started with 2.2 The hard part is that this doesnt happen everytime, sometimes when i reboot the streak it will either get stuck at the first dell screen and not boot further, or it will factory reset itself. Sometimes it will reboot on its own and do a factory reset. At first i thought it was the rom as i was using dj steve's, but then i loaded dell's 2.2 and am experiencing the same problem.
Before and after each install i have done the factory dell reset, and have also done the wipe data/wipe cache/wipe dalvik from clockwork, and i still yeild the same results.
Does anyone have any ideas on what the possible cause of this could be? I have seen talks of reboots, but no talks of chronic factory resets.

Check if it happens when you bump the phone flat against a table. If so it is the battery losing contact. I had the same problem (but without the factory reset) - fixed it by sticking a piece of paper under the battery. Hope this helps.

unfortunately its not a battery issue. Most of the time, i initiate the reboot and when it boots back up it does a factory reset. I have only had it reboot itself twice with factory reset.

I'd be seeking a replacement asap
I had issues with my DS on the weekend after having it for only 1 day, but realised that SetCPU was giving it grief. After a full reset and without using SetCPU, no probs, up time is now 73hrs and counting

Thats kinda what i was thinking, except this didnt happen until i started messing with 2.2. However i do realize this could be completely coincidental. I am planning on putting this back to factory 1.6 tonight and running that for a few days to see if i still have the same issue. Was mainly looking to see if anyone else had the same problem, otherwise i would say it seems to be an isolated incident!

Actually, I have noticed another issue with my DS. Sometimes when I turn off and turn back on, the button lights turn on, but no Dell logo. Just sits there until I pull the battery..
Doesnt happen all the time, but it is very strange.

I had a similar issue related to this. Basically it would boot to the dell logo, but wouldnt boot to the dell animation. I could let it sit there for 10 minutes and hold down the camera button and still get to fastboot, or volume keys and get to recovery.. Im pretty sure my phone is F'd so im gonna send it back.

Random Reboots Evo 3D

Anyone getting several random reboots a day from their Evo3D? I am having that issue including the screen not turning on and then rebooting.
Nope. Turn off Fastboot. Turn off the phone. Hold Volume down + Power. Reset.
When I hold the power and volume down do I do a factory reset from Hboot?
Still getting random reboots after turning off fastboot in settings.

weird, no problems here.
I got a similar problem here except mines happens whenever I try to run a couple applications at the same time.
mine was doing it, it would lock up too and have to pull the battery to reset it
I returned the phone after all the TS'ing failed, and my 2nd one's not doing it
Yep. Mine just did 5 reboots in a row. No joke. All I did was try to go into Skins. That's when it completely froze up, restarted and it won't stop. I just bought the thing not more than 3 hours ago. I can't figure out what the problem is. It sometimes goes past the boot screen but after the HTC Splash screen the screen goes black with nothing but the Hot buttons at the bottom on.

Perform a Factory Reset. That will likely solve the issue. You can search the forum or google the instructions.

Can I get into recovery if I'm not rooted? The phone goes passed the splash screen then goes blank.
Edit. I didn't know hboot had that option. I'm trying it now. Thanks.

Thanks, that did the trick.

Nope. Even after a factory reset it continues to reboot.

This may or may not work, but pull the data off your sd card if you have any, if not, don't worry about it. Pull it from the phone, format it on your computer (just a quick format should work) put it back in your phone then perform another factory reset. See if that helps. My first one reboot randomly several times when I first got it and that seemed to help for a while. If it happens again, call Sprint and tell them what's happening and have them send you another one. I had to do that. I have 35 days before I have to send my old one back, that gives me plenty of time to play with the new one and see if I can recreate the issue. So far...it's working perfectly. This is an awesome phone, but getting new technology when it first comes out, I expect bugs.

I had the same problem with one of my 3Ds. I took it back and they exchanged it no problem.
Took mine to the store and they gave me a brand new one since it was in the 30 Days. This one works perfectly
....i'm on my third one now, sprint told me this was the last time they will replace it...im having the same issue....black screen, low reception, restart, and battery life sucks on this one the other ones were perfect on battery life....hope they fix it.
i have the issues for several days. fixed without hard reset
1) uninstall all 3rd party app killer. ATM, ATK, juicy defender
2) use evo task manager to kill apps when memory below 100m
3) restart the phone, and turn off the phone again.
4) if your phone restart within 20sec, then your phone is in good condition
the reboot can be caused by
1) 3rd party app killer
2) low memory or extreme CPU usuage(3d camera and music play and lot of background app sametime)
3) hot battery
4) bad cache and improper restart. if reboot once, it will continue reboot, the memory seems have bad cache, you need to manualy turn if off safely and restart again.
i cannot be more satisified with the battery. don't use any atm atk or juicy defender, they are battery killer.
decrease display brightness, disable GPS.
i play online stream music for 8hrs on wifi and still have 40% battery left. no other phone can do this.
Happened to me as well, after 5 random reboots within the first 4 hours of having the phone and then not being able to boot it up at all I returned it and got a new one, fine so far only 1 random reboot in 3 days.
My reboots are very different and never when I'm using the phone but rather when I try to use the phone. With my phone obviously being on, I would press the power button but the screen would stay black. I would press it again and still nothing, then immediately after the screen would flash the lockscreen and then go black and immediately after that it reboots to the HTC screen. This happens everyday, sometimes 4-5 times a day. Anybody else seeing this exact behavior?

[Q] phone goes black with panel lit

Phone is randomly freezing, screen goes off and panel stays lit.
Pulling battery is only way to reset, wasn't doing anything special to cause a freeze.
It's almost like it falls asleep, but can't wake it up without pulling battery.
Few times I went to turn of screen, froze on me before I touched the power button. Other times were random, switching screens, backing out of an app.
Since there is no full root, I only have stock apps. It doesn't reboot, just goes dark and panel stays lit.
Is a reset needed ?
I read the other threads, but phone doesn't reboot. Phone is not on a specific app when freezing, and not getting error of any kind when it freezes, just dark screen and panel light on.
Any ideas ?
Thanks

I would try a factory reset and if that doesn't work then I would take it to sprint and swap it out.

This ^ had a similar problem with my OG only got worse
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
Did a factory reset, first time through bootloader. Went through the process but didn't reboot. Had to manual boot through power button.
Started up fine, but since it didn't reboot on its own after factory reset, I chose to do it through settings. Cleared storage card also( nothing special on there) , figured it might help. Process went fine, just no reboot.
Decided to go with it, did the manual boot through power button again.
So far its not freezing, will wait anotherday or so.
Q. If phone is charging while doing a factory reset, will it prevent the reboot, even if battery has enough juice for factory reset.
Q. Will doing a factory reset wipe the cache, or does it need to be cleared in recovery before a factory reset.
Figured id ask if it happens again,
Thanks

My phone started doing this yesterday. I took it into Sprint and ask them not to pull the battery and give it straight to the tech or a manager. Of course be walks away to a sales person and he pulls the battery out then calls me over and asks if i want a tech to look at it. I said no cause the phone obviously worked now. About an hour later my screen became unresponsive. I took it back and told them not to **** with it just give it to the tech. The salesman verified that the screen was dead and told me to come back in 2 hours.
When i came back they told me that they couldn't find anything wrong with my phone. I'm on my 3rd phone now and they said that they will give me one more phone and that's it. I'm scared to get another one cause they have all been so messed up. I've only had this one for 2 days now so I'm going to hang on to it and see if it keeps screwing up. It already looks like I'm starting to have green picture problems to though.

same here havent got an answer, not sure if its a software issue or phone hardware issue , screen goes blank with the screen keys still light up,
did a factory reset its been good for now hopefully stays that way but what does anyone recommend if it happens again, take it back and get a new one?
Same problem here i have been to Sprint 3 times for this issue and every time they just say they will look at it and then do a reset and reflash and send me on my way... Never fixes the problem and they say the wont swap my phone till they can replicate the problem them selves... Pisses me off.
I just had it do it to me twice in last hour
Going to call Sprint

Software issue, keep your panties on and wait for root or an OTA.
My ''xDU4L C0R3 SH00T3Rx'' shot you down in 3D!
Hi.
My original would freeze and i had to take the battery out. and the resets did not work and it got bad worse i had to take the battery out 5-6 a day. the second one my gps, wifi would not work properly even after resets. my third one would not freeze but my phone display would go off then in 5 sec or so the display would be lit but it was black and my search key would be lit. I did 2 factory resets ad a hard reset and it did not fix the problem. I know the repair stores say they need to replicate the problem to exchange and will do a reset and send you on your way. What i did was that i took pics and video of the problem. and showed the rep at the store. first he had said i had to wait 2 hour for a tech to check it then i showed him the vid and he just went ahead and changed it. So maybe if you have a camera available do this at least you might have a stronger argument.
Had same problem. I my recommendation is either take a video of the problem, or what I did was as soon as this problem happens again just bring it to the store frozen, as soon as it froze I just went to the store.

i am having problems with the screen timeout setting itself to 15 and 30 seconds. also had a couple freezes where i had to do a battery pull. lets all just calm down and wait for full root and we will be able to fix all these software issues ourselves.
Just relax and wait for root. Or call a waaambulance

[Q] Motorola Photo 4g just reboots

So today I notice my Photon running sluggish so I decided to reboot the device. I used Quickboot to initiate the reboot which I have done many times before. The phone started to reboot like normal it went thru the sprint animation..but after it showed the 4g screen it started to reboot again and again... I tried reflashing the phone which I have done before, which RSD Lite says everything is 100% but the phone just reboots its self in a loop. Tried it again same thing! now the batterys dead and not even the charger will charge the battery after several hours. It wont even turn on but the led is green when the chargers plugged in. can anyone help? oh and the phone had everything stocked except for the fact it was rooted.

That really sucks. Sounds like you might have a hardware fault and need to exchange it.

Or first try holding volume down and power on until you see fastboot, then hit down volume button until you see android recovery, then hit volume up, while you are there wipe your cache and see if that help you out at all?!?!? I would wipe it a couple times. Hell even at this point do a complete factory reset. Nothing to lose really.
May work, I dunno. What I had to do once. Scared the bejesus out of me!
Other than that beartrap may be correct.

thanks guys ill give it a shot because sprint said the photons on backorder...

[Q] Hard to explain rebooting issue

So, my Atrix is doing something quite strange, and possibly unique.
Just about every 5 to 10 minutes, my phone will randomly reboot. This seems like something a forum search would fix. But it gets significantly more... weird...
More than half the time, it will come up to the Motorola logo, and just sit there... doing nothing. No errors, no messages, no nothing. Just logo. Pull battery, repeat. Sometimes it boots, mostly, it just does it again. Motorola logo. Big. Red. Cylon-like.
However, sometimes it seems that if I give the body of the phone a bit of a twist, flex it a little bit, SOMETIMES, this will prompt it to boot. I tried the because I have had to do this twist and flex trick to get the USB port to connect and charge for some weeks now.
If I can get it to boot, it will sometimes boot normally. Run for a while. And then I lock the screen. Sometimes, the lock button will wake it up like normal. More often though, it shows no response. I attempted to press the button while doing the same twist and flex trick, and this occasionally works. It will unlock the screen, and I can keep going. But usually, it just decided to reboot, and back to that darn Motorola logo.
I thought maybe because I was running JokerSax CM9 beta, it was a rom issue. So back to CM7 I went. No dice. Same thing. I kept a Nandroid backup of the stock ROM even, so I rolled back to that. Again, no change. Same results.
Some inconsistent symptoms are that sometimes when it boots up, the wifi will not come on. Other times it dose fine.
And one time, just one single time, it gave me a "Could not connect to modem" error on that red Motorola logo screen. I haven't gotten it to do that again.
So, is this a Radio issue? A ROM issue? Or has my logic board gone kaput? I am at a loss. I ordered a shattered Atrix from ebay for a logic board swap in case that would fix it, but it won't be here for another week. If anyone has some alternate ideas, I am open to suggestions!

The phone gets quite warm once it starts having its fits. I usually pull the battery to let it cool down before trying again. I was running an overclocked kernel, but have since flashed back to a normal 1ghz kernel. It seems to get hot only when it is trying to boot. It only started doing this recently though. I never had an overheating problem before.
Reboot into recover and flush both cache and dalvik-cache.
Still sounds like an overheating issue...

Boot loop, unable to fully start up

Hello!
Had my N9 for almost 4 years now! About a year in, I started experiencing the white-static-screen-high-pitched-screech issue that many of you have described, but disconnecting and reconnecting the battery connector solved the issue. As of late, I have been running stock Android N.
Recently, I have been starting to experience the issue again, as well as trouble booting up. The problem has gotten much worse over the past two weeks or so, to the point where I cannot fully start up -- the Google logo shows, the start-up animation starts playing, but usually doesn't make it very far before the animation freezes and the screen goes black. I can access the boot menu and Recovery mode though. Going into Recovery mode and explicitly "powering down," letting it sit for a bit, and then starting up sometimes makes it all the way to the OS, but it shuts down by itself shortly after. I cleaned and reconnected the battery connector, but that did not help. I just tried a factory reset, but that doesn't seem to have fixed the issue -- my device is wiped, but if I can get into the OS, it just shuts down as before. If I don't explicitly "power down" and let it sit, the battery does run down, which makes me think that rather than crashing when it freezes, it's still running, or trying to.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks! I've considered it, but the battery seems like it's OK -- it holds a charge when powered off, and the voltage still seems pretty high (~4.1v) Are there any other ways to tell if the battery might be bad, how do you tell? Has anyone determined if the white-screen-screeching issue is caused by the battery itself, or the battery connector?

I have the same issue on my n9 but put it out to pasture so I never tried to replace it. I have seen others on here who have and it seemed to work. But, it also seemed that they couldn't find a real good replacement and the replacement battery didn't last that long.

I'm having the exact same problem. No matter what I flash it always get stuck at the bootanimation. Sometimes it doesn't even get past the initial Google logo bootscreen. I can never fully boot to the OS, though.

Have you tried updating to the lastest factory images from Google? They include additional pieces of firmware than just the OS and many ROMs are built with certain factory builds in mind. The firmware and ROM need to match. The kernel also needs to match. And if you're going to a completely different ROM, you need to factory reset. Or at least, it's a good idea to. Not all ROMs will boot without a factory reset.

Yes, I flashed the latest factory image. I even flashed the first one (5.0). No matter what I try, it always get stuck at the bootanimation. Same thing with custom ROMs. I suspect something's wrong with the data partition, but not even wiping and formatting does the trick.
