I extracted and pushed the Swype .apk and lib files from the Deodexed JK6 Stock ROM to my phone, running Macnut R12. I want a non-themed version with voice input.
I am getting a message when trying to use Swype that says "the swype package you installed is configured for another device and will operate with limited functionality." Key pecking and Voice input work, but swyping a word does not.
Is there any way to make it work correctly?
It's sad that our Devs don't take the time to provide updated components for their roms... You know, like all of the other GalaxyS devs... I am looking around for an appropriate apk. The one that comes with Macnut 14 is older than the hills.
Macnut is an I9000 rom therefor you can head on over to your friendly I9000 rom devs and swipe swype from them.... I am trying to see what the latest version is...

Latest Swype that I could find for any I9000 based rom (works on Macnut 14.) (Has the voice input button!)

Edit:
Use ADB/Root Explorer/Whatever to place Swype.apk into /system/app and libSwypeCore.so into /system/bin
ABD command examples:
adb push Swype.apk /system/app
adb push libSwypeCore.so /system/lib

So far, I've settled on Sense-Able as the ROM I like the best. I really don't like the dialer's theme though... Black text on blue gradient background isn't the most contrasting choice, IMO. I'm color-deficient with shades of darker colors too so that doesn't help.
How can un-theme this dialer ? I'm guessing that's not practical, so replacing the dialer is my next option (?). How do I do that ?
Download Dialer one off market its free. you can theme that. its awesome. I am using ivans. there is a thread someone made a zip that delete the old dialer and replaces with dialer one, its great
Deletes the HTC dialer?
No, based on what I read (likely the same thread), it doesn't delete it. People said that the HTC dialer still comes up after a call is placed, i.e. when you hit the "keypad" button so you can input numbers when prompted.
I do have Dialer One already. I have no general complaints about HTC's so I'd rather un-theme it or replace the Sense-Able version.
Have you tried pushing phone.apk and changing the permissions? I did this with a new rosie to an old version of aloysius and it worked fine after I changed the permissions with root explorer.
I've tried nothing. I don't have a clue where to start, hence my thread here.
Do you have root explorer? If so, make sure you have a nand before you experiment. What I did with my rosie was basically copy the new one to my sd card from my computer that I had earlier pulled from a new version from a rom. So, with the new version copied, open root explorer, copy the new phone.apk. navigate to your system/app and remove the old phone.apk and paste the new one. Long press new apk and open permissions. Set all that apply and then reboot when done.
If you dont have RE you can use adb shell. Same process really, push new apk to sdcard (can also be pushed from tools folder also). rm old apk from system/app. push new apk from sdcard or tools. next thing is the chmod command that I am not sure of. Something like adb shell chmod 755, but im not sure since I used RE. Hopefully someone else can chime in that knows this part.
I have been trying to get the HTC_IME keyboard installed but it is not working for me. I have tried with ADB and root explorer and with terminal emulator. With any of these, it does not show up as an option to choose in Nook Color Tools. If I try to install the APK I get "Parse Error There is a problem parsing the package"
I have tried several different apk files, one from my HTC EVO, and a few from XDA downloads.
None of the Froyo HTC_IME.apk files show up at all in the keyboard list.
I can get one of the HTC_IME.apk files to show up in the list and it must be from a previous version of Android. When I chose it, however, no keyboard appears.
I have also tried various HTC_IME.apk files with an included Clicker.apk for calibration and still nothing.
Anybody have any success with the HTC_IME keyboard?

I played with it a little, too, but I didn't have any luck. I don't remember what I tried, but it involved NookColor Tools to switch and I ended up settling for the Gingerbread keyboard until someone figures this out.
There's an Eclair version and a Froyo version, and I think we need to use the Eclair verison.
Ok I've done a little research on this but can't find what I'm looking for exactly.
I really don't like the Blur Contacts app. I have figured out how to filter things correctly so I only get my usual Google contacts but I'd still like to get one feature back that I had on CM - direct dial and direct text message shortcuts. They were supported through the AOSP Contacts app from what I can figure out. The Blur Contacts app has something similar but it doesn't work consistently. Does anyone know if it's possible to install the Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk extracted from CM 6.1.1 (what I had on my EVO) and bring them over to my rooted Atrix?
I'd like a different contacts manager as well. This one combines services which is not what I want/need. Any suggestions that are similar to CM contacts on N1 would be appreciated!
+1 more here for a different contacts app.

Bump
I'd also love the AOSP dialer

Click to collapse
I tired this few days ago, nothing worked. =/
Click install throws an error and says it can't be installed. Pushing the apk to /system just has no result.
Moto's contacts are terrible.
How to Install Android AOSP Apk, in any system.
Find the AOSP apps from a CM6 build by unzipping and pulling the .apk file like browser.apk. Install "File Expert" (Free and amazing file browser with full root access and alteration capabilities application)
Copy the .apk you wish to have on to your phones SD Card
Run File Expert,
hit menu/more/File Explorer settings. Then check "Root Explorer" on the bottom.
hit menu/more/mount/Mount As Read Write
Browse to /System/Apps Find the App you wish to replace with the AOSP version.
Hold Down on the App and when the options come up choose file operations and rename to something like application name.apk.bak
Browse to your SD Card find your app. hold down to choose file operation then choose copy.
Go back to /System/Apps then hit Menu button and choose paste.
Locate the app you just pasted and hold down on it and in file operations choose "permissions" Check Everything and exit out of File Expert
Note: You may need to redo the shortcuts for the app on your desktop and or launcher.
Note: Must have a rooted phone.
Note: 2.3.3 apps may or may not work on 2.2 Android Roms and vice versa.
Note: if this causes errors or failures delete the new apk and rename the old apk to its original name.
Good luck!!
can someone upload the contacts apks?

Download the latest Cyanogen mod for your phone or any. Unzip on your pc and go to the folder labeled system/apps. Get the apps you want from there and pass them to your phone via USB to your phone then follow my previous instructions.
I have already tried to install a different dialer/contacts app. I had no luck, I think that the stock dialer/contacts are to deeply tied into motoblur and the phone system. It won't break your system but you just will not have a dialer or contacts.
Did you try it to my exact instructions. Making sure to you the cyanogen mod that corresponds to your version of android? If it didnt show up on your list you may have tried the 2.3.3 instead of s2.2 dialer.
Oh, I would love to hear the solution to this. I have been trying to figure this out for a couple days now. I pulled Contacts.apk from a Liberty backup I have and have been trying to replace BlurContacts.apk with it to no avail. I believe someone above may have touched on it. Possibly to change when other things look for BlurContacts, and instead refer to Contacts.apk?
I have tried several different contact apps. None work I think that the blur apps are to deeply tied into the system to allow a change.
Bump
any progress ??

I've actually been using GoContacts. It seems to work like how I want my contacts to work(I.E like ASOP) plus allows for a little bit more tweakability.
Well, i just wanted to make this thread so others with the same issues i had would have a place for it all. Unfortunately most of the modded roms didnt have swype, no biggie i thought i backed up the apk from the original rom... well come to find out you need to do a coupla things.
i found these threads below which pretty much explain the process.
first is getting the right swype files in place... follow this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841603
i ended up loading up the stock rom from a backup, and used adb and subsequent adb pull to grab the libSwypeCore.so and Swype.apk from the running system.... AND ALSO grab the build.prop as stated here from your ORIGINAL ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1121231&highlight=swype
then reloaded your custom ROM,
at this point, i used adb again to grab the CUSTOM rom's build.prop, and compared it to the ORIGINAL build.prop...
your looking at the lines
ro.product.model=
ro.product.brand=
copy the two lines from the ORIGINAL to the custom one in a text editor... also while your at it, you can fix the issue i had... most of these custom roms are sourced from stock roms that are outside of the US.... which makes things interesting when loading up google maps etc... so while ur editing the build.prop, change the line
ro.product.locale.region=
to where ever your original build.prop is from.
at this point, copy the original Swype.apk, libSwypeCore.so, and modified build.prop to the root of your sd card.
then use adb to mount the file system and copy the files
Code:
$ su
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
# rm /system/build.prop
# cp /sdcard/build.prop /system/
# cp /sdcard/libSwypeCore.so /system/lib/
at this point just use an apk installer to install swype n ur all good to go... now you have a licensed original version of swype on your phone with its custom rom.
ALSO NOTE, that changing your region to US in the build.prop will fix the bug with the latest BETA swype where upon boot it says cant load UK language etc.
Hope this helps someone in the future.... i gotta thank everyone around for all their hard work and time into everything, all the custom roms i have played with have been awesome, each has their own flavor and flare and its simply amazing what you can do with these android phones... from a relative newbie.. only had the optimus t for about a week now, the phone is awesome, a great combo of speed size and bat life.
Both this and the original howto are nice pieces of WTH.
- Uninstall Swype if (mis)installed. No need to uninstall the installer.
- Re-run the Swype instaler.
- Follow the instructions, it will download, install and license Swype and tell you how to enable it. You need to register yourself at http://beta.swype.com/android/create/ so that you have the credentials available that you will be asked to provide during the process.
- Done, installed, profit!
yes you can go with the beta, but like stated unless the build.prop says US for the region, the beta swype will error out opon boot of the phone.
also the latest beta has no option to cancel the word suggestion incase you completely fuggered up a swype, unlike in the old word suggestion popup, where u could just hit the x and try again... you now have to hold delete which takes much more time, then swype again.
also neither of the howto's above combine the knowledge of both.
Hi I do mines in a different way. What I do is take all the necessary files and place them in the rom file itself before flashing. You can do this by extracting via 7zip and repacking after.
In regards to the build prop, just open it up in notepad or what not and change the 2 lines you mentioned. For me, I would change to LG-P509 and LGE.
This is how I got my swype and other tmo apps working. No need for adding swype installer and joining beta.

Is there a way to get rid of the annoying arrows on the HTC keyboard. Im running the ViperLTE 2.2.0 rom and there is a option in venom tweaks to get rid of the arrows but it doesn't work.
please have a nandroid before doing this. if you break the keyboard you will need to install on from the market to rename it back to apk if you choose to do the second method.
push via adb
$ adb push HTC_IME.apk /system/app/HTC_IME.apk
$ adb reboot
or if you use a file explorer app go to /system/app
find HTC_IME.apk and rename it to .bak
place new one in spot
change permissions to RW*R**R**
reboot.
let me know if you need anymore help, i can make this a zip to flash too if you like.
edit: This should work on any sense 4.* ICS rom for the inc 4g but i only tested it on viper. Will not work on CM10.1 sorry
first keyboard i broke the predictive text. if anyone has downloaded this please delete the one that was around 4mb.
the new one i just uploaded is working 100% and should be about 4.5mb
should have fully tested it. sorry for any confusion.
My computer doesn't work and my phone won't let me use file manager. It would be great if it was a flash able zip file so that it can be easier.
