I'm considering trying out some of the new Kernels and rom's that are out now but want to have a fail safe to get back into stock. I've been searching and couldn't find anything that tells you how to do this.
Anybody have a link or know of a method for this?

So my ignorance is showing. :-/ Enlighten me?
Don't have the requisite 10 posts yet to post this in dev thread so I guess I have to put it here.
Just installed the Energy Rom released March 10th.
My Wifi isn't working. According to the Dev thread, this means I need a new kernel. Somebody in the thread thinks fondly of the faux kernel so I guess I am looking for that one. Could use a clue as to where to find it.
Aside from no Wifi, love the Energy Rom.
all you had to do was read The READ ME FIRST section. stickied on top, or do a simple search. it is un-necessary to create an entire new thread even here..
here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359951
Figured it out!
The thread where I found the kernels was called:
[Kernel]Amaze[2.6.35.13](v009)OC~1.73/JRCU/UV/CIFS+UTF-8/Power Saving[Mar-13]
You have to look carefully but there's a site for downloading them mentioned somewhere in the first 3 entries. 2nd one, I think.
Didn't work the first time. Error made me think /system might still be read only so I booted into my custom recovery and used "Fix Permissions". That seems to have done the trick!
Freaken HTC/T-Mobile. :-|
My Motorola Xoom wasn't anywhere near this difficult to get it unlocked, rooted and a custom ROM and kernel installed. Even was able to put ICS on it. ;-)

Okay basically im not sure this is the right section so i'll keep it breif.
I'm new to Rooting/Roming
got an samsung galaxy sII for xmas.
I want to root/rom. But it's a GT-i9100T , and i can't find anything about rooting them on the forums so if someone could throw me in the right direction or explain how its works i'd appreciate it.
I9100T is for all intents and purposes the same (hardware-wise) as the I9100. Many of the questions you probably are asking or want to ask have been asked before.
Google "site:forum.xda-developers.com i9100t", and you will get a ton of posts, most of your questions will be answered in them.
Please keep in mind forum rule #1: search before posting.
It should be the same, kernel version is important, I guess you could use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399

Sorry i didn't list one of my main things i searched the forums and everyone about the GT 9100 are all with vodaphone (ones in aus) and i'm with telstra im not sure if that changes things? just wish there was a sticky explaining all this haha.
They use different kernels, but the procedure should be the same, just find the right kernel for your phone, and you can root it. I used this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414 but CF-Root might be better since it has CWM which allows you to flash different ROMs. But that's if you want to flash ROMs .

Any insecure KF4 kernel should do for rooting.

I know that it requires something about insecure and secure kernals to root haha, i know almost nothing else. But how come it only requires the kf4? and not the whole DVKF4? haha.
It's just their way of "branding" kernels. The rest is a signature for something else .

KF4 is the build, (I believe K is the year, F is the month, and 4 is the build number) the DV portion indicates where and for what carrier (if applicable). It's some wonky code Samsung came up with. I don't know the logic behind how they picked them though.
DVKF4 is for Telstra in Australia, from what I can tell.
Edit to add: forgot to say; carrier and location are unimportant when rooting, so that's why I said any insecure KF4 kernel should work for you.

So i'd just need to find the kernels, and then i assume find out about what program to root and flash with? and then how to install roms and stuff etc?
Yep. Everything you need to know is in the Stickies, CFRoot thread, the carrier branded firmware thread & the country specific/non branded firmware thread.
So far as flashing custom roms or kernels go, follow whatever instructions these particular roms or kernels have.
Those firmware threads I linked you to have tutorials that shows you how to use Odin which you can use to root your phone initially. You can also flash stock roms if you ever need to at some point in the future with it. Once your phone is rooted, most custom roms/kernels are flashed via CWM (or Mobile Odin).
Hello everyone!
Compliments for the wonderful forum!!
Allright, this is my first post here on xda, but it has been a while since when i started following this community and i've always found answers to all of my questions, but not this time, i've been googling for 1 hour but yet no answer i searched on the forum but yet no answere, so i decided to post it myself, hoping that it wont bother anyone and that it's in the right section.
So, my question: Is it possible to turn a rom from Odin format (.tar/.tar.md5 etc) into a flashable zip? If yes, how?
My intention was to customize a stock rom for the gt-s7500, with dsixda's kitchen, that apparently supports only flashable zips.
Thanks a lot in advance
MozeMpk
Ps. i'm sorry if im not in the right section it just seemed logic to me to post in here
found something...

Allright my googling wasnt the best  , i just found this madteam.co/forum/support-7/how-can-i-convert-a-tar-for-odin-to-a-cwm's-zip/ but i still didnt try it, ill update here, if anyone cares
Found another one on this site: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806174
Mods, you can close i hadnt searched well
I saw this posted in another thread, I just downloaded it, and I'm "fairly" certain that this is the complete source. One is the kernel, the other file is everything else.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50705852&postcount=147
Is this what devs need to possibly figure out a bootloader workaround?
OP so why create another thread....regarding this... Thread Closed & Thanks.
