Hello everyone!
Compliments for the wonderful forum!!
Allright, this is my first post here on xda, but it has been a while since when i started following this community and i've always found answers to all of my questions, but not this time, i've been googling for 1 hour but yet no answer i searched on the forum but yet no answere, so i decided to post it myself, hoping that it wont bother anyone and that it's in the right section.
So, my question: Is it possible to turn a rom from Odin format (.tar/.tar.md5 etc) into a flashable zip? If yes, how?
My intention was to customize a stock rom for the gt-s7500, with dsixda's kitchen, that apparently supports only flashable zips.
Thanks a lot in advance
MozeMpk
Ps. i'm sorry if im not in the right section it just seemed logic to me to post in here
found something...

Hi all, oddly, I can't seem to find a clear answer to this from searching and Google. Does the SII have a separate recovery partition? I see chainfire has created a customised CWM to be deployed with his kernel, but I was puzzled by this as coming from a HTC world, I was wondering how CWM backups up the ROM partitions (or more importantly restores them) if they are in use.

no one?
I would also like to know how this works. Coming from 3 previous HTC phones and buying a SGS2 tomorrow, I wouldn't mind finding out how to root, nandroid and flash correctly.
I know all about Odin already.
Is this the only way?

Then why not read the guides in the development section? step by step guides.
There is also a search function in these forums.
Not being rude, but you are asking to be spoonfed when there are good, well written proven guides to all your questions.

I take it this was a reply to MrBadgerMilk's question? I've looked at the FAQ in the dev section and used search and can't see the answer to the question of whether the SII has a separate recovery partition. Hopefully the people that know (and some will) could just post a yes or no.
Right... http://bit.ly/SGS2answer
Now that's over, no, the SGS2 doesn't have a separate recovery partition. The zImage contains the recovery binary, and another init script is run, when recovery is to be entered, from the standard zImage.
Now that was the answer I was looking for. Thank you very much.
EDIT: Is the video some Samsung secret initiation ritual thing?

Sorry for acting like a total noob. I did a search, but because of the crappy network that orange is, I couldn't ever stay connected long enough to actually get to the results of the search. Now I finally have my sgs 2 on 3 and it's like a breath if fresh air. Sorry again.I can now search without sounding like a noob

Tbh, I think i came off as a bit of a plank. If you keep an eye out for chainfire 'Root/kernel' threads in the dev section you can go far wrong.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399for root/clockwork mod recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 for step by step guide on how to flash via Odin, and the official roms. I've had the sgs2 for a month now, and after trying the (now deceased) angelom rom, and litening rom, I went back to stock KE7. and tbh, it feels just as quick as the 'customs'. The only thing I would advise is to remove(or freeze) the samsung bloat by using titanium backup. There is another thread somewhere with a list of things you can remove without affecting functionality.

Lol...that's what I was thinking....but my opinion changed when you posted this.
I have clockworkmod recovery. I dont have the stock rom. Please help!!!
I need the stock rom .
Thanks in advance
Are you trying to remove clockworkmod?
If you use the search function, or just browse the development section for 12 seconds, you can find the stock rom that you can flash in cwm, or an ruu that can be used to get the device to stock as well.

I'm disappointed at the OP for not searching before posting this question. Such an easy question to answer. In fact I'm more than certain that instead of posting this he/she could have searched and found the answer much faster.
I'm closing this now.
Hello.
I have just got this phone few days ago.
I am intrested in installing CM9, but i have few questions. If i have understood correctly, I need to install leaked ics before installing cm9 (or any other ics rom). Can this be done with mobile odin, and if can, am I able to keep the root with it? (It has function to keep root)
Also, does cm9 support usb otg? There was no result when i tried to search.
Sorry if these are stupid questions.

if you are already rooted which i gather you are just flash the latest nightly. then flash the last google apps and that is it job done. you can flash all those from recovery.
Make sure you back up your current rom and apps and then go ahead and do full wipe. Data - cache - and dalvik and also format system in mount and storage. Flash the above two i mentioned and that should be it.
Regarding the usb - otg not sure but you can ask in the discussion thread
EDIT: i went from checkrom v6 straight to cm9 if that helps.
No. You don't need to install leaked ICS first. I tried CM9 over the weekend & flashed CM7 first. Follow the instructions on the first page of the CM9 discussion thread & you'll be fine.
If you use the files linked to in the first post in the CM9 thread, they're CWM flashable, so you'll need to have a kernel installed that has CWM in order to flash them. CFRoot kernel will do just fine if your phone isn't already rooted with a kernel that has CWM. There might be Odin flashable files around somewhere, you might have to search for them.
It is rooted, yes. Does it support USB OTG ? Good question. That's one thing I do use a bit on GB & forgot to test when I used CM9. Given USB file transfer doesn't work yet, I doubt it. But ask in the CM9 discussion thread or read the FAQS/Wiki.
So in summary, given you haven't done anything to your phone yet:-
1) Root it with a CFRoot kernel
2) Go to the CM9 discussion thread & follow the install instructions in the first post.

True but once you get the hang of things and how things work with the s2 it is a piece of cake..But i must admit sometimes i get scared on what to do specially if i have to unroot and root again as i have only done it a few times...Once i stayed rooted that is it...i do all my upgrading by flashing custom roms. anyway good luck with cm9 you will not regret using it..let me know how you get on
Haha ;-) You Sir are a noble man
OP - Yep, S is right. CM9 is a very nice piece of work given they've only had leaks & their own considerable hacking talents to work with. It's not quite a 'daily driver' for me at this point, but once sources come out I'll be switching back to it post haste. I'd be surprised if the CM team don't have a stable ICS release long before other devs.

Ok I am new to XDA. I tried to post my question in Almost All Huawei Stock Roms (Firmware) - Updated 28/06/12
This is the only place I have found that might have what I need. But of course the one place I need to post in..... I cant.. for some reason I need ten posts to be able to do this.
I dont want to post a bunch of useless posts just to be able to post in one forum.
I am not an expert at this but nor am I a complete noob, so I will cast my line out here and hope I get a bite.
I am looking for the stock rom for the Huawei ascend II M865c from straight talk (Sprint ver)
So if anyone could help out that would be great.
Thank you .
Or perhaps mods could see fit to allow me the privelage to post in the thread I need to post in.
nothing?
So , nothing?
Guess I am left with no choice except to make a few more posts.
