I got a few quick questions. I'm heading to Best Buy in shortly to pick up my White streak I ordered. I was hoping 2.2 would be out here for AT&T without ordering the Unlocked one ( I have AT&T and like the white ) I've been reading on Steves 2.2 1.4.6. Is it possible to load that on the AT&T streak that comes with 1.6? I would like to root my streak anyway was just curious if I can load steve's 1.4.6 and have it on the AT&T use streak.
If so any baseband issues or anything I should know about?
Thanks ahead of time for the help. Finally kicking the iphone 4 back to android.
The white Streak is different
Just a bit of a heads up: the white one is different. I beat my head against the wall for at least a week trying nearly all of the varied procedures explained on various sites to get to a custom rom and it seemed nothing worked. I finally got to Steve's 1.4.5 by using the Qualcomm driver method. As I understand, it's the only method that will allow you to start flashing custom roms using clockwork recovery. It is a bit long in the original process, but once you get it done, the new flashes go by without a hitch.
Thanks,
I'm going to let it charge tonight and give it a go tomorrow. I made a sim sleeve for my micro sim from the iphone 4. It should work in the streak correct? Or should I have them activate the new sim?
I didn't have to activate mine. I have the old unlimited iPhone plan, so I didn't really want them changing it in case I decided to trade this thing for an iPhone 4 or something. I currently use it with a homemade min-sim adapter and it works just fine. As a matter of fact, I also use it in my HD2/Android with no problems.
For details on the QDLTool method (needed for the White Streak) go to http://streakdroid.com/?page_id=92. Note: QDLTool is a Windows only application and its easier done with a 32 bit version of Windows.

Ok, so I've been working for a solid 2.5 days straight trying to repair an Eris I purchased on ebay.
I've flashed and re-flashed and done all sorts of crap and now it seems I'm in a pickle.
I was able to use RUU's just fine at the start of all this, additionally the phone's MIN showed up normally as well and also when I connected the phone to say QPST it showed up as a droid Eris.
Now the RUU's always give "error[130]: model id error," the MIN shows up as "0000009763" and the phone is recognized as a "FFA/SURF 7600 WinMob" phone of some sort.
My problem is that I'm trying to downgrade using an RUU to RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.27.651.5_R_signed_release in hopes that that will help me with the repair but I can't because of the RUU error.
Additionally, I feel like I may have just plain screwed up my phone with all this.
If anyone could please give some pointers or even just an encouraging word to lift my spirits I would be so appreciative as this is really starting to wear on me.
You guys are awesome even if there is no help for me..thanks for everything!

I can not imagine even a single reason why you would ever attempt to flash firmware meant for one phone onto a different phone - especially if there was a bootloader replacement involved. The fact that the phone does anything at all after doing that is almost a miracle, frankly. (Yes, I realize that the Hero is a cousin of the Eris, but that doesn't also mean they share the same partitioning layouts, kernel load addresses, hardware interrupt structure, etc).
But, I suppose you are aware of that by now. It is probably also why no-one is offering any help - you are in territory where folks don't normally venture.
Personally, I would sell the phone on eBay described as a "for parts" unit and eat the difference between what was originally paid for the unit.

Hmm, just following instructions I've gotten from several different sources.
I was leery as well, but after flashing that RUU a couple times prior with no ill effects it would seem that the information I received wasn't faulty.
Thanks for the input though.
If you did something meant for the hero and tried it on the eris then it is faulty. Just because something hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't

I have since gotten back everything back pretty much to normal..though qpst still reads the phone as a SURF 7600 WinMob. I've got a 1.49.2000 S-OFF bootloader and eris radio and rom. Things are looking up from before but I stil haven't gotten it working on Metro..
Get it flashed over from a metro store then I can help you get the net on it

Will a metro store flash this phone over? I thought they would flash data phones...
I have to get the Streak to work as a modem via USB by 22nd. If I don't, I'm taking it back to best buy.
I can't believe this... My past 6 phones worked easily with PdaNet, but this phone won't. I've been trying for two weeks with no luck.
Any idea's folks? I really like the phone, even with version 1.6 but I HAVE to use it as a modem with my notebook when I'm on the road.
Try looking on the market (https://market.android.com) from your computer, not the phone, for tethering apps. Under device compatibility, select Dell Streak as the filter and it should come up with approximately 50 results, paid and free. Do note that even with this, you may be barred from downloading the app, since AT&T disables tethering by default unless you have a tethering plan.
For best results, even though I know you're afraid of bricking your phone, I would update your phone to a ROM with tethering built in, as suggested on the other two threads that deal in one form or another with this tethering app issue you're having. The unbranded 345 ROM may work, but you might be better off installing StreakDroid. Since you've already rooted the phone, you should have enough knowhow to do the following:
1. Download ROM
2. Rename ROM to "update.pkg"
3. Copy the ROM to the root of the SD Card
4. Boot into recovery
5. Flash the ROM
Part 3 is probably the most difficult part of this, and all that's involved is connecting the phone to the computer using the cable, tapping the USB storage option that pops up on the phone's display, and then copying the file using Windows Explorer. The rest of this should be relatively easy, especially if you've rooted your phone.
I wish I could help further, but my Streak is both an unlocked model from Dell, and isn't rooted. Yet, based upon my experience rooting and replacing the ROM in a HTC Aria, the process really is not that difficult. Good luck.
Any news on a Dell Streak II? Tesco have sold out of the original model and now say its discontinued. There was a rumor of a new model in May/ June with better screen and processor etc.
I might not go with the streak 2, after Dell's lack of support (might be more of an at&t issue). Took FOREVER for them to release 2.2 (I did it myself in Dec).
Dell, at&t, google or whoever is going to have to do something about the
update problem/releases or I might go elsewhere. Sadly, updating a windows phone (at least the older HTC ones) was pretty easy and straight forward.
The android phones, sometimes it's simply install the firmware, or it's plug in the phone off, do a dance, type in a bunch of dos command line garbage, turn on the phone, PRAY it connects, update, reboot and hope it doesn't brick.
Google needs to get with the program. They have a pretty good thing going, but make it hard for some who want more than an out of a box experience.
so yesterday at the gym i dropped my phone a few feet down of the elyptical and unfortunatly the lcd inside started bleeding, the glass was fine, but the lcd was obviously damaged inside, so after reading a few things on here i took a shot in the dark at seeing if dell would replace my cell phone for me, i guess i was one of the lucky ones and im getting dispatched a new phone, my question is, am i able to restore my new phone with a nandroid backup of my old my phone that i have saved, like would the phone then just be identicle at that point, does it work like that? and what would my steps be on getting my phone back to where it is, tho i am familiar with QDL tool to a certain extent and do have the drivers set up on my laptop am i going to have to re-root it then i could restore from nandroid? any advice would be appreciated! thank you so much!

That is very good for you. I wonder how much longer will we be able to get a replacement on damaged or a faulty Streak? . Whats up with Dell pulling the Streak totally from their catalog? Firstthere were onlinerumors that it was pulled for internal updates. Now the Dell.com site says "farewell Dell Streak 5, its been a long ride"' or something like that as its discontinued. Posted a question on their facebook page and still cant get an official comment.
I am looking at a good price on a Thunderbolt, but it is stuck at the HTC screen.
From poking around this forum it looks like there is a good chance I could fix it.
Any thoughts as to odds that this is a brick and not fixable?
there is a good chance that its fixable, yes. I have seen Thunderbolt's average $200 on craigslist(heck, have even seen Bionic's for $250)... so, the fact that there is something wrong with it I wouldn't offer more then $150.. actually, even that is a tad high.
Cool - getting it for $100.
Looks like even a brick sells for 70-100 on ebay so I think it is a risk worth taking.
Thanks for the help!
Just picked the phone up - it looks brand new. Even got the 32GB memory card!
The guy I bought it from worked in a Verizon store and said it was not rooted.
When I do the volume down during power up I can get into the boot loader.
Charging now and off to search the forums for next steps, but any suggestion would be much appreciated.
Sorry relatively new to HTCs
If you can get into the bootloader that's a good sign. Find a ROM that looks good, which includes a radio. Load that into the top level of your microSD card and make sure it is called UPDATE.ZIP.
Go ahead and boot into the bootloader and flash the new ROM and see if you get into the O/S this time.
Does it have the sim card still in there?
Robert
Yes still has SIM card
Looking for a ROM now
Will this work?
PG05IMG_Mecha_VERIZON_WWE_1.12.605.6_Radio_1. 16.0 0.0223r_NV_8k_1.41_9k_1.64_release_174685_signed.zip
Renamed to PG05IMG no update
Edit didn't work - says this one is older than current.
Looking for a newer rom...
if you haven't already looked at it, there's a virtual shopping list of ROMs over in the Development subforum.

Personally, I like Sense so I would suggest either one of the hybrids or the Sense 3.0 ROMs. Pay attention to installation info and radio requirements.
Unfortunately, I cannot tell from all that gobbledygook numbers and letters how old that is. I am sure someone else here will be able to.
Good luck!
Robert
You can't downgrade unless you are rooted, you can only flash upgrades only one you maybe be able to flash is 2.11.605.5 if your phone is not there already.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Got 2.11.605.5 stock to load! Now to call VZW!
Thanks for the help guys!
EDIT - Oh wait - now to see about rooting!
