Any news on a Dell Streak II? Tesco have sold out of the original model and now say its discontinued. There was a rumor of a new model in May/ June with better screen and processor etc.
I might not go with the streak 2, after Dell's lack of support (might be more of an at&t issue). Took FOREVER for them to release 2.2 (I did it myself in Dec).
Dell, at&t, google or whoever is going to have to do something about the
update problem/releases or I might go elsewhere. Sadly, updating a windows phone (at least the older HTC ones) was pretty easy and straight forward.
The android phones, sometimes it's simply install the firmware, or it's plug in the phone off, do a dance, type in a bunch of dos command line garbage, turn on the phone, PRAY it connects, update, reboot and hope it doesn't brick.
Google needs to get with the program. They have a pretty good thing going, but make it hard for some who want more than an out of a box experience.

Hello all.
I have been looking through the forums most of the day trying to make sense of rooting and roms and all that, and I think I have a handle on what this is all about - obviously I need to try and see first. But I have somewhat of a dilemma on my hands that I would use the advice of others on.
I currently have an iPhone on ATT and love the phone but hate the service. Verizon is the only thing that works well around here (ive tried friends phones) and I know I want something of the Android family if I am going to have to lay down the iPhone (which is getting easier given the flop I think iOS4 is). So, I bought a Droid Eris.
Problem: It is waaay to slow. I have owned it 5 days and Sense UI has Force Closed 7 or more times. I get a better experience by Advanced Task Killing everything, but that seems like a bad deal to have to do on a new phone. I would like to root and rom the phone with something like Official 1.0 Alpha from ivanmmj, but I am still within my first 30 days with Verizon and can take the phone back if it is stock. I am afraid that if I root and rom it that the VZW sales mafia will reject me if I still try to take it back. I also am not confident in my ability to root/rom correctly, or reverse it if necessary.
Question: Should I try to OC the phone with a better ROM and pray it gets snappier or should I go get a different phone? The only other thing they have in the store that would suit me is a Palm Pre Plus (non Android, I know), otherwise I am waiting for the Incredible (4+ weeks) or the Droid X (wish I knew what Motoblur worked like). Opinions?
Rooting is easy as hell, coming from never having done anything like it.
You can unroot easily and it's untraceable.
You should get a different phone, honestly. I love my Eris, and overclocking makes it snappy and quick but it just can not compete with something like the incredible or the droid X. The incredible is WELL worth the wait.
Before you get too distraught over what to do, you should first check to see whether the phone is even rootable. 5 days old, phone from VZW? A lot of new phones coming from VZW recently are not rootable.
Chances are it has the 1.49.0000 S-ON bootloader on it, in which case, the point is moot. (No rooting an Eris with the 1.49.0000 S-ON bootloader at the moment. This is the same bootloader as was used with the "leak" V1, V2, V3 ROMs).
You can check by powering off your phone and then starting it up by pressing and holding the Send+End/Power buttons at the same time.
HBOOT version is in the 2nd line.
(Turn your phone off with a battery pull at that point).

It says 1.47.0000 in the HBOOT line, so I am supposing it is rootable?
If it is, I wouldn't mind trying a root, rom, & OC if I can get a proper guide on how to reverse it back to stock. Don't want VZW to think I muckied up their phone should I try to return it.
I really like what I see with the Droid X. I'd even be willing to pay for it today, but waiting until July 15 or later is going to kill me. I recently got some new contracts for my business and not getting phone calls on my ATT iPhone is not a great way to treat a new client.
ATT is a joke.
The Droid X is a beast phone, I'd love to have one.
Go to the developers part of this Eris forum and there's a sticky with all of the guides and ROM's you'll need.
I got a few quick questions. I'm heading to Best Buy in shortly to pick up my White streak I ordered. I was hoping 2.2 would be out here for AT&T without ordering the Unlocked one ( I have AT&T and like the white ) I've been reading on Steves 2.2 1.4.6. Is it possible to load that on the AT&T streak that comes with 1.6? I would like to root my streak anyway was just curious if I can load steve's 1.4.6 and have it on the AT&T use streak.
If so any baseband issues or anything I should know about?
Thanks ahead of time for the help. Finally kicking the iphone 4 back to android.
The white Streak is different
Just a bit of a heads up: the white one is different. I beat my head against the wall for at least a week trying nearly all of the varied procedures explained on various sites to get to a custom rom and it seemed nothing worked. I finally got to Steve's 1.4.5 by using the Qualcomm driver method. As I understand, it's the only method that will allow you to start flashing custom roms using clockwork recovery. It is a bit long in the original process, but once you get it done, the new flashes go by without a hitch.
Thanks,
I'm going to let it charge tonight and give it a go tomorrow. I made a sim sleeve for my micro sim from the iphone 4. It should work in the streak correct? Or should I have them activate the new sim?
I didn't have to activate mine. I have the old unlimited iPhone plan, so I didn't really want them changing it in case I decided to trade this thing for an iPhone 4 or something. I currently use it with a homemade min-sim adapter and it works just fine. As a matter of fact, I also use it in my HD2/Android with no problems.
For details on the QDLTool method (needed for the White Streak) go to http://streakdroid.com/?page_id=92. Note: QDLTool is a Windows only application and its easier done with a 32 bit version of Windows.
I have to get the Streak to work as a modem via USB by 22nd. If I don't, I'm taking it back to best buy.
I can't believe this... My past 6 phones worked easily with PdaNet, but this phone won't. I've been trying for two weeks with no luck.
Any idea's folks? I really like the phone, even with version 1.6 but I HAVE to use it as a modem with my notebook when I'm on the road.
Try looking on the market (https://market.android.com) from your computer, not the phone, for tethering apps. Under device compatibility, select Dell Streak as the filter and it should come up with approximately 50 results, paid and free. Do note that even with this, you may be barred from downloading the app, since AT&T disables tethering by default unless you have a tethering plan.
For best results, even though I know you're afraid of bricking your phone, I would update your phone to a ROM with tethering built in, as suggested on the other two threads that deal in one form or another with this tethering app issue you're having. The unbranded 345 ROM may work, but you might be better off installing StreakDroid. Since you've already rooted the phone, you should have enough knowhow to do the following:
1. Download ROM
2. Rename ROM to "update.pkg"
3. Copy the ROM to the root of the SD Card
4. Boot into recovery
5. Flash the ROM
Part 3 is probably the most difficult part of this, and all that's involved is connecting the phone to the computer using the cable, tapping the USB storage option that pops up on the phone's display, and then copying the file using Windows Explorer. The rest of this should be relatively easy, especially if you've rooted your phone.
I wish I could help further, but my Streak is both an unlocked model from Dell, and isn't rooted. Yet, based upon my experience rooting and replacing the ROM in a HTC Aria, the process really is not that difficult. Good luck.
Well,
Today I did the unthinkable.. I connected my Chevron Unlocked titan to the computer to reinstall a homebrew ap that had started to get glitch. I made sure Zune was turned off and wasn't loaded up and was set to NOT load when the phone was connected. I connected the phone, it synced up with windows phone device manager and started to install the ap. It seemed to lock up 3/4 threw and I closed windows phone device manager. Upon restarting windows phone device manager it said the phone was locked... NOOOOOoooo!!!!!
I use Nokia Maps 3.0 as my gps guidance as I like it way better then Navigon and others. I immediately went to see if it still worked. Nope! Son of a B.....
I was hoping to get away with NOT connecting the phone to my pc till the new windows phones came out with Nokia Drive built in. Doesn't look like that's going to happen. I have a construction company and use GPS about 4-8 times a day going from job site to job site. Serious pain here as now I'm going to have to purchase Navigon which I wont use once Windows Phone 8 is released. *sigh*
This might not be an issue if the AT&T phones were able to be unlocked (and yes I know some have gotten them to work but more often then not they get stuck and aren't able to be)
Long story short... word to the wise.... If your phone is chevron unlocked don't connect it to your PC no matter WHAT! Not unless you want to loose your unlock.
Not looking for sympathy here just wanted to remind people that apparently even having Zune shut down the phones can still relock
You could still try HSPL. A lot of people get stuck about halfway through the process but no one has bricked their phone by trying.............yet. And the funny thing is they get stuck with an SPL update. So the worst thing that can happen to you is you updated your SPL.
Use the built in navigation, it works well enough that you could stand to use it until the end of october, you don't need to shell out money for navigon.

With the New Windows 8 Phones coming out perhaps as early as the End of October I just went ahead and bought the monthly subscription to HTC Locations. 5 dollars for the US for a month, By then the new phones will be just about out and I wont have any worries when I upgrade. It was really just a precaution to anyone who wanted to connect their phone to their PC's and still have Chevron unlock NOT to do so.. I actually hadn't seen any thread regarding anyone who lost their unlock so... now there is one.
Chevron Unlockers it WILL relock!!!
A while ago I took advantage of a Verizon deal (big mistake). I got a tablet for a roommate as well as myself. We had a falling out, he moved away and changed his number, contact info, everything... and the tablet was returned to me..... factory reset.
The tablet wants the original Google Account to sign in before it will initiate any setup. No way past this point.
I've contacted several different Verizon and Google tech supports and QTASUN for help always to be referred to the next company (it's not our fault, etc). Over the past 6 months trying for a solution within Warranty, i'm giving up. :crying:
(Verizon - We just sell the tablet
Google - It's a Hardware safety, it's designed that way
QTASUN - It's software security, ^)
I've asked Verizon stores and techs from different locations about flashing the Tablet for me and some I even have to explain what 'flashing' is and was told 'we don't do that'. Another associate told me 'it would require a level '5' tech on site to flash it, however it's 'against the rules' anyway.'
Please help. I'm paying for a Tablet I am unable to even use, and it's physically in perfect condition. Near new.
I don't know the first thing to prepare to flash anything, however I'm not completely illiterate when it comes to computers. I only want to be able to use the tablet... don't care so much about OEM unlocking and removing bloatware (although nice option). Any help will be greatly appreciated. TY
-Very tired and disappointed Verizon customer.
Look up bypass Google frp lock. I managed to get past the screen where it asks for the previous Google account on an LG X Power I found in the street. It had been driven over but I figured out the only thing damaged was the battery. So after I replaced the battery, I did a factory reset and it asked for my old login which I obviously didn't know. There wasn't a guide that directly helped me but I managed to create my own way of getting passed it with all the different methodologies I looked up. The first thing you should find out is if you can get chrome to open up during the initial set up. It usually involves going into accessibility and finding a link to some terms and conditions page or something, which in turn opens up chrome.
