[Q] Help needed. USB device not recognised. - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I am in need of a little help.
This started last night. My HD2 has SPL-1.42 and has done since it was released. I am not a noob at flashing roms or indeed running Android Roms. I regard myself as being a bit of a geek and a bit technology savvy. Anyway....
Last night I flashed a new Rom (Energy.Leo.21916.Sense2.5.Cookie.sencity.Nov.30) all was going well. I flashed this rom as I liked previous roms by this chef and also to try and solve my email not being received problem. Unfortunately, emails still didn't work. Not a problem I thought, I will just used Android for my emails. Unfortunately for me the build I installed last night after installing the Energy Rom was slow and laggy for me. So I thought to myself that I would install a new WM rom this evening and the latest MDeejay Android Rom afterwards. So I went about the usual scenario of connecting my HD2 to Laptop in activesync mode(without Enable Faster Connection enabled(this is normal for me) but all I get from Windows is USB Device not recognised. I have tried with enable faster connection enabled, reinstalling Mobile Device Centre, different cable, different USB port, different PC, reflashed a rom via SDCard(transfered LEOIMG to SDCARD via adapter and run from SPL Bootloader). I even get the error when running Android. I have also checked the USB port on the HD2 for dirt, but nothing.
Can anyone suggest anything or is my HD2 knackered?
Thank you

ROM Install Help on 8525

So I recently downloaded the "RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_[1].15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship" ROM for my 8525, in hopes that it will provide me with a more stable pda/phone enviroment so that I may do the work I need to without having to hard reset every other day or so.
When I try to run the ROM install, I follow all the insturctions but when the update starts to run, it shuts my activesync connection off so the update can't run and throws back an error that it lost connection with the device.
Any Help Here? Thanks
PS: I love the idea of being able to use my 8525 for all my work and play needs, but if this update doesn't help make the device more stable, I will have to sell it for something that doesn't crash this much.
hey..iv got same problem.. i think it maybe cause we are using windows vista (thats the only information i can find about it).. i wanted to update ma rom aswell
I'm using XP Pro.
try running it on another system...if available...
anyone know the solution to this?!
OK, have you installed HardSPL ??
Check my SAFE WM5 upgrade guide, if you follow the procedures in there you should be fine.
Yeah, as far as stability goes most the wm5 roms out of the box aren't going to be the best. with any rom i use sktools to tune it up for performance/stability settings. It does this automatically so you don't have to find various registry keys. So don't think just because you are going to another rom everything will be okay.
Read the wiki, search the threads, you will find answers to all your problems.
As far as you not being able to connect what is your spl number? Also, have you tried hard reseting then connecting or trying another computer. I had the same problem when downgrading a black 2.5 with hard spl 2.1 ( i had to downgrade to send it back to cingular). I ended up just downgrading to the highest version of cingular rom which is branded AT&T. It looked like a pretty good rom but I did not play with it.
he does not need hardSPL(at least i dont think so) he is just runnning an update for another cingular ROM, its still the same CID...try running it on another system, i had this same problem and it worked on another system....

HardSPL will protect him against a faulty SPL flash if it occurs, a newer SPL is likely to be in the ROM update aswell as a newer radio possibly. Having the same CID doesnt matter because if the radio or SPL flashing procedure messes up it can create a bricked device VERY easily (corrupt SPL or even a corrupted CID/Radio BL). Besides if he already has HardSPL that would explain why the RUU doesnt reconnect when the device is in bootloader mode.

point well taken...=)
you mention, since he has already gotten HardSPL, why would that mean his device doesnt reconnect in bootloader?
put it in bootloader first and then run the update...
make sure you disable usb connections with active sync put your phone in bootloader and run the update might as well go with WM6 its a lot more stable than any WM5 rom i have played with .
OS crash
I run ROM install then computer shuts itself now my 8525 show hi true color with red/blue/white i tried to hard reset to solve but till hi true color what should i do?

I've run there updates on my 8525. If the computer is shutting itself down, try another computer. This sounds odd. More of a computer problem then a Tytn Problem.

=) have you even tried it?
I'm having a problem connecting ActiveSync over USB. When I first got the phone I was able to use that connection. Then I set up BT ActiveSync. I believe at the time I could use either USB or BT, but it has been a while. BT sync was so much more convenient for me that I haven't used my USB connection except for charging the phone.
Today I tried to get set up to upgrade the ROM, but ActiveSync doesn't seem to work over USB anymore. I turned off BT on the phone. When I plug it into my laptop's USB port the laptop makes a sound indicating it sees the connection. It makes a different sound when I unplug it. I also see the orange charge light come on on the phone. I usually charge the phone this way when I am on the road since I don't carry the wall charger with me.
I think at one point I installed a river that I fdound here to access the phone in bootloader moder. Other than veryfying the phone connected this way, I never did anything with the driver. IT has been so long that I don't remember the details. Could that be affecting the connection for ActiveSync?
I have made sure my firewall is inactive. In Windows XP Device Manager I see an HTC USB Sync device under Windows CE devices. Would it be safe to remove that device?
Any ideas how I can get USB ActiveSync to work again?
Is it totally crazy to try the ROM upgrade over the BT connection?

have you tried changing the setting on your phone "USB to PC"? I would try this first before digging to deep

You may want to try using the Hard SPL v7 and then install your ROM. I did that and all went smooth as silk - six times now. I have been browsing ROMs to see which one suited my needs an personality, and it has been fun. You can find that on my FTP site at ftp://xda:[email protected]/xda_dlz/
This is a dynamic IP Address from a cable modem so two things are true
1. It is subject to change at any time.
2. It is not as fast as some of these speedy servers
But, I do know where it is.

I had tried this yesterday and checked the Enable advanced network functionality box. Today I unchecked it and suddenly the PC saw a new USB device (HTC Sync USB, I think). It still wouldn't sync automatically so I manually executed /windows/repllog.exe. This time it connected.
Some observations:
- After the connection was established the the name of my 8525 was changed to something different (something like WM_ComputerName1, Where ComputerName is my computer's host name). I changed the name back and was able to re-invoke repllog.exe and sync with the old name.
- If I disconnect the USB cable from the phone and plug it in again ActiveSync doesn't connect until I manually run repllog.exe. It does work when I run the exe on the phone manually.
I went ahead and started the upgrade process after connecting by running repllog.
Executing the RUU file from the HTC site first put SPL 1.11 on the phone and left the phone in bootloader mode (with the tricolor screen). I left the phone with bootloader screen and followed the instructions (although by now ActiveSync had shut down so the part about the AS connection that the installer asked for was not true). The progress bars appeared on both the phone and the PC. It took a few minutes to complete, but the update was successful.
After the upgrade I was able to sync over USB without any problems. I am now syncing my contact from Lotus Notes and setting things up to my liking. Once I got over the USB connection problem everything worked fine!

AT&T Rom Upgrade USB issue

Good Morning!
Well, I upgraded the ROM on my (previously) Cingular 8525, two days ago, and continue to fail at getting it recognized by both my Dell M170 laptop and my Alienware Area51 Desktop via USB.
Activesync 4.5
Tried it with both Advanced Network Functionality and without.
All firewalls off.
No errors during ROM update.
Tried two different USB cables.
Reinstalled XPpro SP2, fully patched.
Tried removing and rediscovering all USB drivers for both machines.
I've tried everything I could think of, and in every order I could think of.
The OS discovers the device, and ultimately gives me a popup message that the USB device is installed correctly and ready for use, but then 10sec later I get "USB Device Not Recognized" pop up error....
Should I roll back to a previous version of Activesync? Can I roll the ROM back to a previous version?
I admit to surveying the forums here before posting, but it seems a bit confusing to me and I certainly don't want to destroy my phone.
Thanks in advance for your help!

do you have .NET framework 2.0 installed?
edit removed questions that were answered in first post (guess I should read closer)
Did you flash a WM5 or WM6 rom?
I have issues with AS not being able to connect to my device sporadically when I am running WM5 roms but don't have issues at all with WM6 roms. I have no idea why this is but this problem goes away for me while running WM6.
Can you boot into bootloader and get a constant USB connection that way? if so you may be able to flash to another custom rom or shipped carrier rom.
And I know you said you already did this but uninstall and re-install activesync 4.5 to make sure its drivers are not corrupted. Select yest to overwrite when prompted (if prompted).

http://pdaclub.pl/forum/index.php?topic=117019.0
its on qsqa 3.0 proffesional rom based
and now activesync cannot connected with phone.
Why?

You should ask author first in pdaclub.pl
I see 1.07 in your signature and new build. Better than 20759 ? I'm still using 19971 that's why I'm asking you.

Jeez,is this promoting a other website here on xda
You should ask it there
Have you tried rebooting your computer? I know it sounds simple, but I had a very similar problem when I flashed my Fuze from ATT stock rom to ROMeOS. Everything I did with the phone didn't help, but a simple reboot of the PC and everything is fine.
Never had the same problem with a Hermes phone, so I can only guess that something about the Raphael ROM is causing the problem.
Who knows it could be the rom. Insure Start-->programs-->(system, or whatever folder you may have it in)-->ActiveSync-->menu-->connections the Synchronize all PCs using this connection is checked and `USB is selected in the drop down.
Good luck
From the beginning i had terrible problems with activesync, and finally i relised that the 2meter usb cable i have is too long for that work !!! After i worked with a 30-40 cm cable everything was excellent.

USB problems

Hey all,
I'm having real issues with my phone at the moment, I bought a PC from the college I work at, as they were upgrading and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP 32bit onto it, I am currently running Resurrection Remix 2.4, I wanted to be able to USB tether my phone to the PC whilst I am switching broadband providers, but when I try to connect it, both the phone tells me that the USB isn't connected and the PC doesn't pick it up either.
I tried downloading the USB drivers for the S2 to my USB stick at work and installing them that way, with no joy, I've tried flashing back to 2.3.5 (CheckROM Revo HD V6) other ICS ROMs and turning off USB Debugging but still nothing.
What can I do to sort this all out? I've searched all over Google and XDA, but I have yet to find a solution, any advice anyone can give me would be much appreciated.

[Q] USB Device not recognized

I am owner of the Galaxy S2. I updated yesterday to SuperNexus Jelly Bean ROM, didn't liked it. I restored my device to CM9 which i was using for a month without any problems. Then it started, computer couldn't recognize the phone anymore. Its like that SuperNexus broke something i don't know. I reformatted my Win 7 Ultimate x64 and installed fresh new CM10 - but after all my computer and S2 don't like each other - USB device not recognized. Chaos. I asked my friend to come over just to test with his S2 (he's on stock ICS 4.0.3 or 4.0.4), and when i plug his phone into my computer, everything works flawlessly. I tried mounting in recovery, i tried with and without usb debugging, Odin doesn't find phone neither, tried updating drivers - no luck... Dialing *#7284" just gives me "connection problem or invalid MMI code". Need help on this please!
You can check THIS thread. The one HERE , and also THIS thread.
I've read them all, tried every advice, but phone still isn't reacting to anything. So my problem is that phone couldn't connect to a computer, well it connects but it states "USB device not recognized", it charges but that's all. Everything started with Custom ROM SuperNexus. I've done these steps so far:
1. Reformatted my computer OS, which is Windows 7 Ultimate x64
2. Downloaded CM10 over my phone, get into recovery --> factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, format system, install ROM, wipe cache, wipe factory
3. I tried on my computer, tried on my old computer with Win XP x86
4. My friend's Galaxy S2 is working like a charm with MY cable on MY computer, which makes me believe that there is some defectiveness in my phone
5. I tried cleaning MicroUSB port with tooth pick, ear-cleaning pick (or how do you call it), needle with some paper wrapped around it, tried blowing in it
6. I tried with different USB ports, front ones, USB 3.0 - still no luck
7. I tried flashing Wanamlite and Neat ROM-s, still the same problem
I'm using Airdroid now, but i really need to know what's the problem! I have already ordered a new parts on E-Bay and I'm having high hopes about that solution. Im not able to post link to E-bay item, but search it under Item Number: 150904945773. Any other advice is really highly appreciable. Thank you
Try downloading the Rom over WiFi, or Hardline instead. Have you tried a different USB Cable ? Also I'm not able to check that Ebay # right now.

eBay item is this: New Samsung i9100 Galaxy SII S2 Charger Charge Port Flex Cable Replacement parts
OP, I'm hoping it works for you. You seem to be going in the right direction with your troubleshooting.
Well, i've downloaded this ROM (CM10) via WiFi, now i can do it over Airdroid too. But is there a way to flash Stock Original Samsung ICS in recovery? Or is it only available in Kies and Odin? I came across "Mobile Odin", do you guys have some experience with it, is it safe to use? How big are chances anyway that USB will work with stock ROM? Someone told me "your USB port on phone is OK, if it's charging it's not broken", so I'm thinking that it is not a hardware issue after all? And BTW i used several cables, and three different computers. My girlfriend have SGS3, i tried it like 2 hours ago with her cable on her computer with no luck (and of course her phone have no problems to connect to that computer using that cable). Thank you
I would try a Stock Rooted Rom, and see if that works correctly. If not try connecting the Device, and reboot the PC with the Device plugged in.
How to install stock ROM if i cannot get Kies or Odin to recognize phone? Via Mobile Odin?

Try USB solutions from My Android Solutions or Mobile Odin like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28302093&postcount=4789 ( procedure is same but written for Korean SGS 1
Guys let me tell you that I'm grateful to you, cause this Mobile Odin worked and my Stock Rooted ROM worked in connecting with PC. But not on first try when i got into a newly flashed Stock Rooted Firmware, i've let it to do his stuff, update what he needed to update blahblah. Then i tried to connect my cable - it didn't work. I cursed, i cursed so bad. Then i considered to give it another shot, rebooted the phone - and voila! Everything works, i tried 2-3 times and its working. Obviously SuperNexus started my problems, they couldn't be repaired by any other ROM i tried (i tried CM9, CM10, Wanamlite, old Wanamlite with MTP enabler, Neat ROM)... Then with Mobile Odin everything just worked. Dunno what really was the problem. Thank you all
Glad you got it sorted
