i m very concerned about this topic, how can i make a backup for my sms on HD2 into my pc or storage card, then recovering them into the phone ?
Hi,
Have you tried using PIM Backup? It's freeware and you can save your contacts, SMS messages, appointments etc. It came pre loaded on my T-Mobile HD2 Leo and I've found it really useful when I accidentally deleted all my contacts when playing with ActiveSync settings.
Hope this is of use.
Thank you >..
i found other great application (Jeyo Mobile Companion 2.1) which is great for making backup for sms, contacts,... and modifying in them (reminds me of myphonexplorer )..

Background: My Imate PPC (ie Himalaya) is starting to get a little unstable with the apps etc that I run, so I've been debating upgrading it from WM2003 to WM2003SE (the Sin Merged version).
The problem is that I really don't want to lose my contacts, SMS and appointments.
I back everything up on a regular basis with Sprite ... but I realise that I won't be able to restore across ROM versions.
It occurs to me that I could install Outlook (which I loathe) and sync my contacts and appointments to that ... but that doesn't help with my SMS messages. As far as I know Jeyo still can't deal with sub-folders in SMS ... so that's no help.
I experimented with syncing to Thunderbird, which I use, and Sunbird (which I installed for that purpose) ... but given that I don't sync in normal circumstances the results were hideous - I don't see that as a solution.
So guys - who's got any suggestions?

Hey, you can use Sprites Device Upgrade mode to restore to a new ROM but you have to read this first:
https://spritesoftware.crmdesk.com/...earch=Search&area=0&criteria=0&sort=0&start=0
As there are things you need to do before you upgrade your ROM

I've had a good look at that option, and read a lot of comments on the net and to be honest, I'm not sure if I trust it.
Out of desperation I installed outlook and have synced my contacts, appointments and tasks to that.
It still leaves me with my SMS's to be dealt with. Jeyo STILL can't handle sub-folders, after all this time - so it's worthless.
I'll keep at it though
Hey, I have a Sprint TP. Want to put a custom ROM, but I 1st have to back up my contacts & other info. can some1 provide a link for a good back up program?

i personally use UC and copy the pim.vol that i backed up and copy over through sdconfg...or just use WMDC...
Try Microsoft MyPhone. Automatic backup and sync of contacts, pics, text msgs or anything you choose. It backs up and restores my contacts (200+) in less then 45 seconds.
MyPhone is excellent but it doesn't work properly if you have Outlook synced to an exchange server. I use PIM Backup for contacts and MyPhone for text messages.

I use SPB backup to restore my contacts and \my docs\ folder Well worth the $ I paid for the full version. You can run scheduled backups and they also have an app to unpack a backup on your PC.
pimbackup is capable of that as well.
+3 on the pim backup...only one i tried and it works aces...tho i strictly only do my contacts and appointments.
i would say that we need a list of everything that you want to back up. if it's just contacts and calendar backing up your pim.vol file manually is rediculously easy (i've done it by accident before). how ever if you want to back up more than that then you will probably want another program. so yeah, let us know exactly what you want to back up.
MyPhone has trouble with hanging on some of the contacts. I just synced my phone with my GMail contacts and calendar so I'll let you know how it goes when I hardreset next time.
Microsoft My Phone
My phone from microsoft is the realy way to go man, Crashed my computer and had bad rom on phone. Myphone stores on the cloud so its always available. Saved my ass and all my business contacts.

Hi All
I currently have a Diamond and am due for an upgrade and am seriously thinking about the Hero.
I've looked around the various forums but can't seem to find the answer to my question. When changing between Win Mo Pro phones I could easily backup contacts, calender, text messages, emails etc using PPCbackup.
Is there a program that will allow a backup from WinMoPro and restore it onto the Andriod system?
I know I can backup the contacts and calender using outlook 2003 and squirt them over the Hero using the HTC Sync program but not sure about anything else? It would be very helpful to have my text messages sent on the Hero as alot of work communication is sent that way.
Help much appreciated
Ed
You send your outlook contacts to your googlemail account. google backs then all up, so as soon as you sign in (say after a wipe) they all come back to the phone as before.
There is also various backup aps as well.
can you not sync ur winmo phone to an exchange server then sync ur android one too.
also theres a app called windows mobile sms migrator. http://android.modaco.com/content/software/288916/windows-mobile-sms-migrator-beta-1/
Well if all your contacts are in Outlook the HTC sync software just simply pulls the contacts from Outlook.

My contacts and calender aren't the issue but thanks for replying, it the SMS messages I'm more concerned about.
I'll upgrade and give the modaco app a try and see how I get on.
It would of course be nice to see migration software that'll squirt everything across in one go that would indeed be a shot across the bow's for windows lol.
Thanks for the replies everyone
Hi Folks
I used Titanium backup to backup my apps and stuff but it can never restore my contacts or any text messages. Even though it says that it has restored the data.
I cna restore games and other stuff no probs but the 2 most important things in a phone cannot be restored.
Anyone got any tips on how to get it to work?
Cheers
Kenny
I dont think Titanium backs up contacts or texts. Use sms backup and restore from the market to backup your texts. As for contacts, sync them to your gmail account and they will automatically be downloaded if the google servers see they are missing, like when you install a new rom for example
That, or use the Contacts Import / Export option from within the Contacts/People App. Works flawlessly everytime.
Thanks for the info folks!
I have over 10,000 texts on my HTC hero and my phone is ridiculously sluggish. I'd like to somehow backup all of my SMS to somewhere, so I can still read them, while starting fresh on my phone, and every new texts gets automatically updated to this said location.
I tried SMS backup +, but they get backed up in gruoped 100's and it's pretty strange.
Thanks.
See if there are any good apps for you here: https://market.android.com/search?q=sms+backup&so=1&c=apps
SMS Backup does a backup to your gmail account, sms backup & restore lets you backup in xml and other formats, and I think TxtArchive SMS Backup does what you describe, although I don't know for sure,, you should give it a try
