Okay! So now we Xperians have Android 2.1(Eclair) on our devices. Now, We need to discuss about the next version of Android, i.e. 2.2(Froyo) because still we aren't able to get most out of our phones.
Also, from various sources, we have come to know that Sony Ericsson is not interested in releasing the Froyo update for our X8 now, for the time being, say 4 months.
This means that our devs need to do the hard work and port Froyo onto it!
This thread is for you devs. Cheers!
There will come new update in january i thing.
I thing it will 2.3 and if you see your firmware info there is writing 2.1-update1.
So there will be new update soon.

Ha. What devs?
4 monthes seems a little quick actually. You'd think it'll be much easier and quicker just to wait for the latest update than trying to port it ourselves.
it's mean x8 will update to froyo..?? this is true news..??
No official word from sony, so I'd say no.
Last I read was some "leak" from a Turkish SE employee. He claimed the x10 (no mention of the x8) would get an update to 2.2 in Q2 2011.
Found it: http://www.xperiax10.net/2010/12/03...al-froyo-xperia-x10-update-coming-in-q2-2011/
Considering the x8 has a lower update priority than the x10; doubt there's any point hoping for an update before next generation "mid-range" android phones come out, sporting 1ghz chips, 256mb++ storage and Gingerbread.

Yes, there will be updates, but they will fix the bugs in the Eclair only.
No word from Sony that there will be Froyo on it, and some devs think that Xperia X8 wont handle the Froyo as good as any other phone does.....(i read it in some blog, if this information is wrong, then there should be no blame on me!)

No word from Sony yet. But we don't see any updates(Froyo) on it for a quarter or so....
In France, SFR just published 2.1 for X10 mini on 1th december, so i don't expect to have 2.1 on X8 before january / february.
It will let the time to xda dev teams to find a way to make it root
We dont need 2.2 we need option to install apps on sd card.
They can change 2.1 to do that.
Just provide us with an easy to root build and we will do the needful
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
hm ..... root to 2.1 is not. can not be started. sorry my english is poor
That's what I am saying SE should have provided us an easy to root rom

yes you are right it should be easier but it seems that it is not so easy

Again, why should they make it easy to root? It gives hackers a way into people's phones, by getting into root they could do anything they wanted without the users permission.
Having the 'super user' app isn't going to stop hackers from using the same exploit to gain root.

I agree even though we all do it we do so at out own risk it can cause problems. For those hoping for a 2.2 update SE confirmed a while back theyre would be no 2.2 update for the x8.

Where did they say that? I've never seen such an announcement.
so updates on the Android 2.2 is supported only for x10. It should also for x8 and x10 Mini / pro. sorry my english is poor

I confirm.
I read it on an official SE thread somewhere but I don't find the link. And I read it on many "tech" blogs relaying the information.
They won't make a 2.2 for X10 / X8.

Are here people with android 2.1 on the phone??
with KPN brand, I can't nothing find on the update in the Wifi phone??
A few people have 2.1 but only because they either work for SE or are Developers. Only a few weeks left till everyone will get the update.
Please, do not feed either him or topic. We all know why.
We should be getting the 2.1 soon. Q4 is pretty much here.

I've had contact with SE and they tolled me that the update to Android 2.1 for X10 mini and mini Pro will come in Q4 of this year....
Well, at least for The Netherlands....I don't know anything about the updates for other countries...
Wasn't there something about at the end of september? Late Q3?
Hey guys I know everyone's excited about this but there's one bad side to it. This thing may be unrootable but I'm sure the geniuses here will crack it. But unfortunately the bootloader will now be even harder to crack. And most countries won't get the update so you'll have to get the global update from here which isn't a problem for me. But if we root Xperia arc we can most likely root our new x10. We need a preview so we can work on this
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
Simple answer: Gingerbread 2.3.3 on X10 is built upon the same thing as Arc... if u can root Arc, u can root X10... simple.... Richard on the SEBlog already made it very clear that they are building 2.3.3 for X10 based on what they have for Arc.... I think by then, bootloader cracking should be pretty much out of the picture cos everyone will update to gingerbread.... and then most of their mobile contracts would be up in prob a few more months and they would upgrade to a 2.4 device....
But we cannot lose root either way. I want this but they have to lift the frames per second cap limit and enable 16 million colors then root or not I'm going to it because that's all what kernels will do anyways so its awesome
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
I've tried rooting a preview version of the Arc using SuperOneClick but it failed so I hope the devs can get root on 2.3.x.
Video coming soon.

I believe that the current rooting methods used on the X10 do not work on Android 2.2.1 or newer firmware. In Android Source code, Google has patch the security hole that allowed for these to work.

dont worry guys.... all that we need are the kernel sources... leave the rest to Bin4ry, J and the team...
Don't worry we'll get this down. The only gingerbread rooted so far is nexus s. We need to know how they did it. Otherwise we can always use a custom rom from here

we have 6 months or so until release, so I'm sure the experts have more than enough tine to figure it out
Lol yep and everyone needs to update to generic firmware. If you get generic you'll be the first to have gingerbread when it releases. That is how I got the official Sony Ericsson dual touch update.

I dont think so, as the reason SE are not giving the update is that they need to "prioritise" on other SE products.

Dude, if SE give the 2.3 update, devs might sit back and rest....as the only reason they were trying to crack the bootloader and all was to get the 2.3 modules/ kernels working on x10....now they are getting it, they dont need to do so.....though the update is coming in Q3, i hope we get to see our bootloader cracked before that...
Thanks to all the devs.
Even if se releases official update, devs would definitely continue to improve it.....and SE will definitely add a patch in 2.3 update so as to void the progress made my devs..but x10 devs do deserve a vacation in hawaii ;-)

You bet they do.
Hmm, I'm 99% sure, that dev's in our community will not abandon us. Well, from videos you can the laggy interface what Arc has...Running Froyo 2.2 on my mini, seems to be much better and fluid than GB on Arc.(Arc has also better hardware than mini does)
It might even benefit us as it might be easier to port X10 ROM to X10 mini/pro. Am I wrong?
I would think so too. Well - these phones did come in a rather turbolent time of the mobilephone market, so the fact that they drop the support isn't all that surpricing. They need to look forward like most other companies in these times - those who fall, is left behind

does anyone know anything about this?? if its true, woohoo! check out the article. its in the middle of the page.
http://blogs.computerworld.com/18077/android_23_upgrade_list
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/2011/03/25/update-on-xperia™-x10/
"Sony Xperia X10: Sony disappointed countless customers when it said its Xperia X10 line of phones wouldn't be upgraded past Android 2.1 earlier this year. Now, however, Sony has reconsidered its stance and said it will upgrade the Xperia X10 to Android 2.3. According to a company blog posted in late March, Android 2.3 -- 2.3.3, to be specific -- will hit Xperia X10 phones late in the second quarter or early in the third quarter of 2011. Before you get too excited, though, note that Sony says the upgrade will be delivered to "generic trade versions" of the phone -- and that carrier-customized versions may or may not be included. "We will have to get back with more information on this at a later stage," Sony says, "but we want to be very clear already at this stage on the fact that some of you may not get this upgrade." Sony also notes that Xperia X10 phones will not be upgraded again beyond the Gingerbread level."

well what does that matter? I have AT&T, i plan on putting 2.3 on here the same way i put on 2.1. flashtool. some dev will post the global 2.3 rom and we'll download it... compile it with flashtool then flash it. no biggie. i dont like pc companion anyway.
I think they should start banning everyone who posts things related to "when" or "if" the x10 will be updated to 2.3 this is really annoying.
Banning is too extreme. a warning will do just fine

Geohot has bought an X10 to crack, Now that we have him on the case it won't be too long until the bootloader is cracked yay
Hi all,
Short question: Will it ever be possible to get ice cream for the X10? Or will it just be too much to run it without lag etc.
grtz,

EDIT:
No need for an answer anymore, I already know doomlord started a development thread
i am also looking for answer..!!!!!!!
probably. It was said that devices that could run gingerbread can theoretically run ice cream sandwich.

I believe the idea behind ICS was a new single open source OS that will run on everything from small phones to large tablets and everything in between.
Yes, that was the idea, but I don't see support for 2010 phones.
