Hello everybody, I am new in matter of Smarth Phones and more even, on HTC one's...
I have a HTC HD2 T-Mobile
Qualcomm 8250B 1ghz procesador
576 RAM
1024 Flash Memory Size
687.12 MB Storage Size
16 GB Micro SD memory
OS vrsion 5.2.219.13 (21913.5.0.94)
Manila version: 2.5.20181424.0
ROM version: 3.14.531.1 (04666) WWE
Radio Version: 2.15.50.14
Protocol Version: 15.42.50.11U
I want to know 4 things:
What is the ¨Radio¨ thing, as I said, I am new in this so I want to know what it is and what is it about, cause I hear people talking about fixing their bugs and freezes by changing it.... explanation?
What changes when changing the Radio? when you change it, it comes side by side with the ROM? or they are changed separatly...? (sorry about my english)
Can install ROMS for HTC HD2 normal version to a HTC HD2 T-Mobile version? without having problems?
And the last one.... I understand that the ROM is not the OS, since it is Win 6.5.... but.... what it is exactly then?... and can someone tell me about the MOST ESTABLE ROM available for my HTC HD2 T-Mobile? Doesn't matter if it's unofficial ROM, at least that it works fine and better than the original one that freezes a lot...?
PS. : I'm pretty good at computers (I like to think so...XD) and I learn fast, so please feel free to explain me how ever you can and I'll do my best to understand it. thnx!

Hi Emilio,
Let me try to answer your questions - someone correct me if I'm wrong... this is what I've understood from browsing the forums for a half a year now...
The radio in your phone is what controls all wireless access, such as wifi and cell reception. Different radios have different battery life/better reception depending on the cellphone - I haven't seen anyone come out and say one is the best although I have been using 2.15 for quite some time now and it's pretty good. Just remember your radio has to be 2.xx.50 because of your type of phone (T-Mobile/TMOUS) or else you will brick your phone (it wont work).
Some ROMs change your radio when you flash - although I haven't come across any custom ROMs that do. In any case, any time you flash make sure the ROM says TMOUS or T-mobile supported! Also, before you flash you need HSPL (search the forums to find out what it is and how to use it).
The ROMs the the awesome chefs here make are usually based on WM 6.5 or 6.5.x - but you dont have to worry about it. For all purposes its Windows Mobile 6.5.x or 6.5 and all windows programs work, etc.
Which ROM is best? That's a long argument. I've been using Energy Roms for quite some time now - every time I flash I always make my way back to Energy in the end. Just go through the ROM section - most ROMs are good (actually so far I haven't come across a bad one) and they are almost all much more stable and smoother. Just remember to make sure it's TMOUS compatible.
Flashing HSPL, Radios, and ROMs are in the forum and perfectly well explained... just search and you'll see.
thank you man!

thnx! a lot!
one thing missed in the otherwise comprehensive answer above...
you have 3.14 rom, so as it stands hspl cannot be installed so cooked roms and radios cannot be installed.
should you want to try the cooked roms you would first flash the stock tmous 2.10 rom, which willdowngrade your spl and hspl3 will work.
oh! so I have to get to my old rom first after changing to the Energy ROMS?
yep. there are 3.14 based cooked roms coming out but not many, most are 2.x based so require the downgrade.
you don't have to wait for the flash to completely set up and running before you flash the cooked rom, as soon as the flash finishes, and windows begins to set up, pop the battery and enter bootloader, apply hspl, enter bootloader again and flash the rom.

Greetings all, I have a probably dumb question I can't seem to find an answer to:
Today I installed HardSPL v1.20 as a stand-alone (through the wrapper?) and now I want to upgrade to AP4, but I see that it requires SPL 3.5? I downloaded the AP4.0 installer from the official thread and tried to install it, but it stalls out (because of my SPL version?)
In any event, I am pretty confused right now, and just need some guidance. Do I want to run AP4 on SPL 1.2? Or is there an advantage to using SPL 3.5 instead?
Thanks in advance,
Rob
If I were you, I'll wait for AP5 on SPL 1.2. Beta is due out soon.
Agree with the sage from above post.
AP4 is great rom, being enjoying it, many thanks to the great AP Team.

the AP4 installer puts SPL 3.5 on your machine.
If it didn't work , you haven't followed the instructions correctly.
may I suggest reading the thread to see the problems that were resolved
Further , if you want to try AP5 now you must have SPL3.5
have you read the guide?
http://www.htc-hackers.com/uploads/AP4_How_To_1.8.pdf
I read the how to
I followed the directions in the 1.8 how to guide, and even tried it on two different Vista machines and an XP machine, all with the same result. When I run the .exe to actually start the update it writes the pmemdump and itsutils files to the folder and then it just stalls and never goes further. I made sure the machines had .net, etc. I am just stuck and don't understand why I can't get the AP4 installer to go further. Thanks!
are you sure you did step 7 and 10?
if you have then try another cable, sometimes the connection is dodgy
Actually I am interested in the answer to the final question that started this thread.
What are the advantages to switching from SPL 1.2 over to SPL 3.5? It would seem that with the inability to switch back to 1.2 in order to load a stock ROM if you ever wanted to that switching over to 3.5 is a one-way trip. So it would seem to be important to know what the benefits are of such a change.
I have read all the threads looking for this answer and all I have been able to gleem is that to load AP 4.0 or the current beta AP 5.0 you must switch, but with the Irus ROMs that allow the features of AP 4.0 on SPL 1.2 it would seem that isn't much of an advantage anymore.
I am sure I probably have seen and read somewhere here some advantage, but I guess it just didn't sink in or make sense to me. So for a simple guy, what are the advantages to switching over to SPL 3.5?
Thanks in advance.
Why is everyone so scared of SPL 3.5? It's running perfectly fine on my Advantage.
Why : if you want to sale the athena you can't .... If you want to go back to an original shipped rom you can't (except for wwe or fre htc branded rom until now)
Off course ap4 or ap5 is realy a very good job!

If you want to sell it? First off, I've never had to warrant ANY device I've bought. Second, it's out of your hands once you sell it. I've always sold my devices with custom ROMs and the buyer hasn't said a word.
off course only if you want to sale it...lol
and it is very difficult to sale it if you tell to the buyer that we wont be able to flash any rom...
as soon as cmonex will publish the downgrade too everybody will try ap5
Because it is a one way street that limits your choice to ROMS that still have many issues. This forums clearly shows there are many unesolved bugs, which is why we need AP5 to fix them. Of course we hope AP5 will be able to solve these issues. Yes, there is the option of AP3, but you can have that in spl1.2.
Because there is no need to bloat up the ROM with third party software since we can install them ourselves. We may never want those software, depending on pesonal preferences.
Becaus we want more available memory.
Because we can also have AP4 with spl1.2 (irus version), which still needs some work.
So, why go spl 3.5?
First in response to an earlier post, I am not scared of 3.5 rather I just wanted to know what the advantages were of moving to it since you can't currently move back. And it does seem there are issues with AP 4.0.
I understand for some the concern is being able to restore a stock ROM in order to sell their Athena. Since I never plan to sell mine, not an issue.
Now if 3.5 maximizes memory such that we get more available memory than that might be a reason to convert.
But if the only reason out there is AP 4.0 then maybe waiting until AP 5.0 is out fixing many of the issues I have read about in other threads.
Is there any other reason to move from 1.2 to 3.5 ?

SPL 3.5 in a quick answer, is just a tool to modify the partition table of your device, increasing space available for ROM (and reducing the space available for YOU ). AP team developed it after they finished building the AP4 from the new ADVANTAGE ROM (X7510) and the ROM doesn't fit into the original ATHENA partitions.
Do you have any advantage modifiyng the partitions in your PC? YES, if you need a bigger one, NO if you don't.
The only advantage is the capability to use AP4 and AP5 full edition
The SPL 3.5 installed haven't any "software" effect, is just a sign of the newly partitoned ATHENA, Having it installed and using IRUS rom (developed for SPL 3.5) means you are wasting some available space, comparing with the SPL 1.2 version.

Thanks for this nugget of information. Now I understand better what or how I'm readying my AP4 upgrade.
Yea, SPL3.5= Pure breed X7510 roms, SPL1.20 ( and others)=ported stuff
If this is a advantage, only the user can say
Thank You. That clears up completely what 3.5 provides versus 1.2.
So if 3.5 is just a re-partitioning of the memory on the Athena to allow for 7510 ROMs then it would make sense to move to it since most future ROM releases will be based on the 7510s ROM.
On that note, in the future would it be possible to load even a stock 7510 ROM on an Anthena with the 3.5 set-up? Or is 3.5 a proprietary set-up created by the AP group here?
Sorry for the additional questions.
most future ROM releases will be based on the 7510s ROM.

Don't know about that, Irus rom is 6.1 based and for what people say they seem to be OK, all depends on what developers want to release, there is no reason why it cannot be developed new rooms for the X7500/7501 format.
Basically since the newest rom came from X7510 you have to choose between modify the X7500 (spl 3.5) or modify the rom to fit our devices.
SPL 3.5 caveat, it wont let you go back to what you had previously, said this I using AP4 and for my is top notch, your choice.
it be possible to load even a stock 7510 ROM on an Anthena with the 3.5 set-up?

good question.
(except for wwe or fre htc branded rom until now)
Can somebody tell me where to find
ok couple vexing things happening here.
my device was using 90% memory no matter what I deleted. was running oem spl 1.1 and wm6 from HTC for a long time.
so after reading here, I upgraded to spl 1.2 and radio 1.58 with no problems THANKS XDA!
memory usage has gone way down. HOW can this BE? havent changed the WM6 just the radio and spl.
anyway the new issue is what ROM to choose! i do need pocket excel and word that comes with the wm6 on there now. but would also like faster performance if possible. does one rom run the athena faster than another?
so any input would be greatly appreciated.
oh also what is "AP4" and what is the advantages of SPL3.5 ? i wouldnt mind being able to partition the memory into one big section, since I run a 16GB mini sd card. is this possible?
sorry for the noob questions but everyone here was once a noob. everyone. lol
now... if this unit were only transflexive screen
I was never a noob. Seriously.
I suggest Michy's 4.1 for a solid and fast ROM. It also has some pre-installed software that activates the transflexive screen option.
1.2 and 3.5 are flavors of SPL. 3.5 basically gives more of your device's memory to the space where the ROM is. More space gives cooks more room to include more pre-installed software like that cool transflexive screen thing.
AP stands for Athena Project. In order to change from SPL 1.2 to 3.5 you should flash AP4. However, IMHO more recent ROMs like Michy's series have eclipsed AP4 in speed and features.
(Also, I advise you change your "16MB mini sd card" to a "16GB mini sd card" before people start pointing and laughing.)
a permanent non-noob, perfect person to be getting athena advice from!
transflexive is a hardware component, its the type of LCD that reflects but also has backlight. in the sunlight you can still easily see it because of the reflectivity, but at night, the backlight can shine through. you get viewability in both conditions with transflexive LCD technology. i have no idea why PDA's started moving away from having that.
anyway I looked at the ROM list for http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397518 and could not find a "4.1" rom so i think you mean 6.1 under Michyprima looks like the third and fourth ones WM6.1 Diamond and Full versions. What is the difference between diamond and full editions? Or am I looking at the wrong ones.
as to the storage, I have SPL 1.2 and the program vs storage allocation doesnt seem any different, is there something I need to do?
thanks
Hello and welcome to our forum!
I would suggest to use the ROM on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=380 for your answer to the 1st post. You could find in post 1 and 2 some really good proposals!
As for Michy 6.1 ROM that exists here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411371 read at the 3rd post you will find a link for the 4.1 version of this ROM, which many believe it's the most stable!
Please be kind to the persons who try to help you...
first, im not sure why I need to be advised to be kind and appreciative, Im known to my friends as both.
I very much appreciate any help I receive, and am teriffically grateful for this site, the roms and mods which take so much time to develop, and for any advice generously given by others.
anyway, back to the topic at ahnd because I am starting to understand, but that only generates more things to ask and discuss.
I just flashed SPL 1.2 to my device. you mentioned flashing AP4 to get SPL3.5 (but that its not much needed now). I saw SPL, Radio, and the ROM (operating system) as three separate software installs. So I guess I will go back and see what "AP4" is, unless its a ROM that includes the SPL?
anyway can it please be explained what Michy 4.1 rom would benefit vs my current WM6 that i got from HTC last year for the 7500?
thanks to all!

Yes welcome,
Michy's 4.1 rom was one of those roms that everything worked well on, it had only a few tiny bugs in it, the same as a stock rom. On his SPL 3.5 4.1 rom, opera plays most flash web sites (youtube, Guba, ect) without any work. It also has many other programs that you wonder how you managed without on it. Your stock rom is just the basics, so you buy the other software!! If you do go go on to SPL 3.5, make sure you start with AP 4.0 as you were told first. then go on to another rom. If you wnt to go back to SPL 1.2 you MUST use the downgrade first. If you forget or try to short cut it will mess up your athena and you will hve to fix it. The best advice I can give you after years on this site is READ THE WIKI
Im not a noob now, but im still lerning. There are some very clever people on here.
Regards
Jay
Hi Jay, thanks man!
I will read the wiki now that Im at work I can do that.
Any chance you could post a link to that 4.1 rom though it's not in the ROM list post that i can find, and a search on "4.1" doesnt yield anything so a Link would be greatly appreciated and I'll load it right away.
Thanks again and yes I'll be getting into the WIKI now. I love the Athena, and cannot believe there really is nothing else with it's features that i can find. At least used ones are coming down in cost, in case I break or lose mine. I rely on it every day for my work and other things.
In fact I just ordered a Ram Mount for mounting it in the car.
The link you want is HERE, I know it says 6.1 but keep going down past all the screen shots and you will get to the links for all of Michy's roms till you see 4.1. try SPL 1.2 first and see if you like it. However if you do then I recomend SPL 3.5 version. They are all worth a try at some time, 6.1 is very swish
WIKI is ace! Its a bible of nearly all known problems you can get with the athena (go down through all the PDA's till you see the athena). Just watch out swapping SPL's, it tends to leave you without WiFi.
ok found it thank you. only now, link dont work!!! arghhhh
I'll try again later perhaps...

I used this one for months now but just swapped to the SPL 3.5 version and it seems to have the edge. try it for a week or so and see what you think.
I got the 4.1 n there now. like it! finally I have control over the device I paid so much for. and the advanced settings is awesom. so many simple things like now I can make the camera save to the sd card, and numerous other annoyances now gone.
couple issues though, first the voice control seems difficult. not as straight up as voice dial, and the recording process hesitates a lot, and the recorded command seems also to stutter. i'll keep playing with it tho.
i would like to have a battery indicator on the today screen. not sure if tahts possible or I just didnt find it yet.
youtube player finds videos with search, but they wont play, I get some kind of security cookie error.
flash content doesnt play, which it never did but not sure if this new cooked rom will let me get that to work (WHY wont adobe just release a player for WM?)
anyway I'm liking all these new features so thank you for the d/l and the others for the advice.
btw what specifically gives spl3.5 an edge?

Oh no tovarish! You bit on the noob bait!
As the OP rightly commented, transflexive is a property of the screen hardware. No software can change the Athena's screen to transflexive.
1. are roms basically firmware upgrades?
2. how do you benefit from having an upgraded/updated rom?
3. i was reading for the Blackstone and Diamond roms you need to unlock your phone, how are the blackstone and diamond roms different to the HardSPL roms?
4. all my contacts/emails/appointments are synced though an exchange server, so i take it i dont need to back up? i dont have anything else installed on it.
5. also i noticed my phone is windows mobile 6.1 are these roms going to conflict with windows mobile 6.5 if i decide to upgrade?
thanks!
EDIT: after doing some reading i found these 2 links to 6.5+rom i think.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=474406
now i have a sixth question: what are the differences between the KITCHEN and ENERGYROM versions? they look a little different but are there big changes on the backend?
Some things to understand:
* A ROM is a replacement firmware. The ones you'll find here are, by and large, custom-created ROMs. The people who "cook" (create) them are called "chefs."
* A kitchen isn't a ROM at all. It's an environment for creating one. The chefs use them, and a few very valuable members of this community provide the kitchens that are used as starting points by most chefs. Da_G's kitchen is frequently used; he's gone to some pains to make the cooking experience fairly straightforward for beginners, and there's lots of discussion in his thread about ways for more ambitious and knowledgeable chefs to enhance it.
* EnergyROM, which you mention, is one of the more popular ROMs here. The chef maintains a few different versions of it as well.
* In order to flash a non-official ROM, meaning anything created by a chef here, you'll need to first flash HARDSPL. The flash will fail otherwise.
* Most/all ROMs on this forum are for GSM Raphael-series phones -- Such as the AT&T Fuze and T-Mobile Touch Pro. Attempting to flash these ROMs on a CDMA phone, like the ones from Verizon and Sprint, won't work and could brick your phone.
* As far as benefit of a customized ROM -- depends on the ROM. Every chef does things differently. You'll have to read through forums and try various ROMs to decide what you'll like. In general, you'll benefit from speedier and more updated drivers and programs than you'll find in the stock ROMs. Also, many ROMs here are now using Windows Mobile 6.5, which isn't yet released formally to the public. Some chefs really work on the bleeding edge, and may be able to bring you new ultra-new enhancements, but at the risk of instability or incompatiblity. Beyond that, there can be a world of different from one ROM to another in configuration and included packages. Play around for a while.
* The wiki is a great source. It covers what I've said above, and much more. Please keep in mind that it's considered polite to search through the forums and read the wiki before asking questions. No one wants to clutter up the forum more than we need to.

Click to collapse
In a way, yes. Picture your device has having multiple ROM regions, Bootloader (BIOS), Radio, Operating System.
You can apply changes (flash) to one, multiple, or all of these regions. Usually, ROM is often referred to as the Operating System & applications portion.
2. how do you benefit from having an upgraded/updated rom?
Click to collapse
It depends; for example, updating the Radio may improve your overall transmission/reception. Updating the Operating System/Application often improves the performance of your device.
Manufacturer (stock ROM's) will usually be relatively stable and more conservative. Custom ROM's will offer newer versions of applications but they may not be as stable - it depends on the skill of the chef preparing the ROM.
3. i was reading for the Blackstone and Diamond roms you need to unlock your phone, how are the blackstone and diamond roms different to the HardSPL roms?

In most (if not all) cases, you will need to unlock your device. This usually involves applying the HardSPL package specific to your device. In some cases, it may be necessary for you to unlock your SIM.
When you become very experienced, you can go one step further and perform a full security unlock which will permit you to apply Radio stacks from different devices - this is very advanced and you need to ensure that you have done all due diligence before flashing a Radio from a different device.

Correct, you simply need to establish a profile in ActiveSync ... the rest should happen automagically. If you get into the addiction of flashing ROMs, it may be necessary for you to delete your existing ActiveSync profile.
5. also i noticed my phone is windows mobile 6.1 are these roms going to conflict with windows mobile 6.5 if i decide to upgrade?

When you flash a ROM to your device, it will erase/overwrite the existing firmware code.
now i have a sixth question: what are the differences between the KITCHEN and ENERGYROM versions? they look a little different but are there big changes on the backend?

A ROM is typically the end product that a kitchen produces. Chefs use the kitchen to prepare (cook) a ROM which is then made available here.
HTH,

Most stock shipped ROMs have the radio included but cooked ROMs do not. If you flash a cooked ROM you will still have the radio from your previous ROM unless you flash a new radio. The radio controlls your frequency GSM bands it has nothing to do with bluetooth or wifi.

In my own experience the ROM I have in my signature and the radio I have in my signature works flawlessly for me. The strength and functionality of your Radio will depend on your geographical location. In other words a Radio that works good for someone in New York may not work so well for someone in Georgia.
Here is a link that may prove to be helpful when choosing a radio and all the radios that are in this thread that have been rated can be flashed to your device without having to use security unlock prior to flashing. If you are with AT&T I would suggest that you give the radio and the ROM in my signature a try first. Then if you’re not satisfied with it you can just flash another one.
Okay I have searched, looked at videos, commented some topics but still I have not found my answer.
If I was to download this Android Build: (Ex. [BUILD]15.09.10|mdeejay Froyo Sense v. 2.1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780525
or
[BUILD] [18.08.2010] [darkstone HD2Froyo V2.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735532
Do I need to download anything else other than what's already included in the Android Build? I keep hearing about this radio rom, Cooked rom, etc.
Do I need that stuff?
Thank you very much.
They are READY-TO-USE BUILD....
I am no expert but this is my understanding, most importantly Android causes problems somehow with the stock ROM on you HD2 so you will want to put a custom WinMo ROM onto the phone before you try using Android. In order for you to flash to a different WinMo rom you will need to follow the va0rious steps there too, there are a lot of great guides on the forums but during that process you make your phone able to take major changes (like ROM and Radios).
All the guides include steps on how to change your Radio as well as the ROM, I know there is at least one stickied in the ROM discussion forum (not Android ROM). The builder of the Android you choose will invariably offer suggestions as to what ROM they use for WinMo and what Radio they have had the best results with. That is what I think you are talking about as far as Radio in relation to Android. Like WinMo different Radios are more or less effective, and even more so than WinMo they can cause major havoc if you disregard the instructions about what Radio you should use (I know of some that will apparently brick the phone)
I am sure someone that knows more than me will answer sooner or later but hope that helps
1. Install HSPL if you are still on Stock ROM
2. Install Android Compatible WM ROM from this forum (ChuckyDroid,OzDroid,VBNROM)
3. Install Radio >= 2.08.50.xx (Dont install .51 Radio)
4. Install Android build of your choice as instructions in respective threads
For all the above, search using keywords HSPL, etc and you will reach gold.
PS : I am not responsible for you bricking the device. If you are hesitant, dont do it !
Hey there all, long time lurker here and just decided to create an account. I've just switched from the ever failing Symbian and bought myself an HD2 because of its well... Greatness, and ability to have so many OS on it
So I bought the device used, the TMOBILE version, and I've had plenty of time to play around with it for the time being.
My OS is 5.2.2193 (21913.5.0.94)
Manilla : 2.5.20181424.0
ROM version: 3.14.531.1 (04666) WWE
Radio: 2.15.50.14
I've just flashed HSPL 2.08 and that is about as far as i have gone.... being skeptical moving on to the next step, as I don't want to brick my phone. I've read things about the radio compatibility about some builds, and didn't want to risk turning my phone into a paperweight
Okay, so if you have read this far on about my ramblings then thank you!!
My goal is to flash one of the many android ROMs. The sd card that came with the phone is 16gb, and also my sd card is already formatted to fat32.
I'm trying to following one of the guides into flashing an android rom and it is recommending me that I install an upgraded wm6.5 first to improve the performance of android roms? If I am understanding this right I should be looking for a rom that that is not too heavily customized, using only all the basic functions right?
I was looking through the ROMS, and would like to try out NRGZ stock sense Energy build. I click the download link with the U.S. flag and it links me to a page with a few download links. I'm not too sure which one to download or all of them?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
Here's the link to NRGZ rom site, and I'm looking at the 3rd post the download link right under where it says "Reference"
Is this the best Rom I should be using or is there any other recommendations from some other veterans out there?
Hi rawsx glad you decided to become a member, so let me welcome you to XDA.
Either one of the ROMs I have listed below are the ones you want to download out of the list of ROMs that come up after you click on the download link.At least I think so rom the info in your post.

I think you are wanting to use a SD card also and not a NAND Andriod ROM cause you metioned your SD card and that it is recomended to flash a bare bones custom ROM. A NAND Andriod ROM would totally wipe Windows Mobile from your phone so this would be pointless if you were going NAND.
Also you mentioned radio compatibility and yes this is very true. The T-Mobile HD2 can not use all radios. If the radio has a 50 in the third set of numbers like this one here 2.15.50.14 then you are good. Do not flash any radio version tbat has a 51 in the tbird set of numbers. And also do not flash any radio that has these numbers 2.04.50.xx or 2.05.50.xx. These and the 51 radios will brick/kill your T-Mobile HD2.
