[WTA] Video Player - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my apologies if this is wrong section, but i really don't know where to ask.
the stock video player is not very good. does not support many files.
i am sure it play 720p clips but not all file format. even some of my avi file also it cannot play. tells me unsupported file format. but its in avi and its a kelloggs advertisement.
since i am from windows mobile background we used to have a player called coreplayer which plays everything under the sun including file with rmvb and rm format.
is there a video player like that for samsung vibrant android ?
i use winamp for the android audio because the stock ones cant play some of my files properly.
if can, please recommend me a good video player to download from market.
thank you in advance.

Rockplayer and YXPlayer should be good places to start....

Subtitle support. Or lack thereof.

I've recently tried watching a few videos on the vibrant and have noticed that none of them are displaying the subtitles. These are a menagerie of 480p and 720p mkv's. I have tried act video player trial, meridian, mvideo, stock video player and rockplayer but to no avail. I do have some mp4's that I converted from mkv and embedded the subtitles into the video and those work fine so I know that works but I'm really hoping I don't have to encode all these mkv's just for the subtitles. Any suggestions for video players with more comprehensive subtitle support?

Try RockPlayer. The website states that it can display .srt subtitles.

Did you actually read my post? Or just the title?
Like I said, newest version of arm7 rockplayer can't display the subtitles either.

As far as I know, none of the players support internal subtitle (aka mkv). Hopefully someone can come and prove me wrong. Otherwise, hopeful thinking: that Samsung would add subtitle support to the native video player via selectable menu would be awesome.
RockPlayer works for me. Double check the name of the .srt file and try multiple formats.
I've been using MKVextractGUI to rip the hardcoded subs out of anime mkv's. rename the ripped subs file to match the mkv you ripped it from and throw both into a directory on your phone. Search for mVideoPlayer on the Market. This video player plays mkv's with the subtitles file perfectly.

What kind of movie format have you played alongside appropriately named srt files? Do you have to activate them through options or close the srt file manually or just place our in the same folder as a same named mkv/mp4/divx?

Its a .avi format video and you don't have to do anything. Just place the .srt file and just copy and paste the name of the video to the .srt file to make sure everything matches. It should load automatically. It will say subtitle at the bottom of the video and then the subs will start. No need to enable anything or press any buttons.
Hmmm I guess I'll try ripping the subs out of the mkv's and using mvideoplayer then. Thanks for all the replies.

Stock video player

Okay guys, I don't know how many of u came from an epic to photon, but for those of u that did, I'm sure u noticed the stock video player sucks. If there anyway we could add the ability to play mkv files or any other format? The video plays but there's no sound....any ideas?
sent from my photon
I've been using MX Video Player from the market lately. It seems to support a lot of formats that the stock player does not.
Hi, first time android owner so just figuring things out. I downloaded mobo player and it works great and it allows me to play different video formats. I end up downloading movies and tv shows in flv format and copy them to my phone and it wokrs great. The built in player would not allow me to play them. I believe Mobo claime to play all video formats.
Try it out and let us know. And btw...sorry but i don't know what an mkv file is. I will google it though...peaceout!
thanks for the suggestions guys, i was looking to just stick to the stock video player, but i don't think that's gonna happen, mkv is just another file type, just like avi, mp4, just another video type. I downloaded Vplayer and that works fine for all video types, I just hate having multiple apps for one thing....I guess maybe i just got used to the epic stock video player. Well anyway thanks again, in case anyone else needs a suggestion on video players, Vplayer is good, but not a freeware. If you don't mind supporting the devs who make this stuff i recommend it.
Weather Channel Codecs for Photon
I downloaded The Weather Channel app, but the videos on it won't work like all the other videos I just spent three days trying to find the right codec info for. Is there ANYTHING I can download that will make them work since converting them isn't an option?
Here's what I have:
Stock Android
System Version: 45.3.6.MB855.Sprint.en.US
Android Version: 2.3.4
Build Number: 4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_6
Many thanks to anyone who can assist.

[Q] Video Converter

Which video format does best work in NOOK tab?
I have tested sideloaded MKV from SDcard and found out it doesn't support at all though official site said it was supported.
Any suggestion for Converter and format???
NB: it's my first Android device..
Are you sure? Because mx video player and the stock player play my .mkv files fine
The stock media player is kind of terrible and doesn't support some (nonstandard) codecs (what was your mkv file encoded in? - i.e. what's inside the .mkv?). Definitely grab MX player and use that - either root the device+grab it from market, or download it, stick it onto your card/internal memory and install it through there. If it doesn't work in MX player then make sure it's not a corrupt file and that it plays on your pc.
Converter please
I convert my video files with quick media converter.. what i want to know is which converter best suit for NOOK standard? I also converted some files to mp4.. some worked. but some didn't..there are a lot of mp4 version to choose.
Thanks.. I will try to install MX player on my NOOK
I use WinX DVD Ripper (vendor is Digiarty) and rip in iPad mode so that I can watch on my Nook or my iPad. The format is .mp4 and they've worked on my Nook Color and Nook Tablet straight from the beginning with no tweaking on the stock video viewer, Mobo Player and mVideo player.
The newer versions of WinX DVD Ripper have an output format specifically for Android tablets but I haven't even messed with it because iPad format works fine for me.
I've seen posts where people have had success using HandBrake too but I've never personally used it...
I use handbrake. But usally mx player works fine

Handbrakeor Super should work perfectly for this purpose. They both are a little full-featured so read a guide before using them -- if you're not experienced in working with multimedia files.
Otherwise, Windows Media Encoder is a very user-friendly and efficient way to convert your videos to a given playback dimension.

Make sure to install the codec apk. It's not included with the download of the player.
MX Video Player Codec [Armv7]
It doesn't ask for the codec when you run MXV for the first time. Once you install the codec, all supported formats will play...
no need
Save yourself hours of time, you don't need to re-encode video if you install MX player.
Convert them to MP4 format, then you can play them freely.

[Q] Best way to play .avi / video files?

So, I'm trying out various Android market apps on my rooted NT, trying to find a way to play .avi files. These videos easily on my Android phone: drag, drop, and play. But since the NT doesn't naively support .avi (and other common video extension) files, what can I do? Do I have to install codecs or something? Thanks.
Download MX player is the best out there, in the nook tablet works perfectly you can install the codecs for Arm7 only if it tells you to. It support many video formats including AVI by default.

Yeah, I tried that app, along with some of its codecs. No luck. If I take the time to convert files in Handbrake to .mp4, it'll work, but my old laptop takes forever.
Whenever (an it's not often) i get a file that doesn't work in MX Player.. then Mobo player usually does the job... with no extra codecs to install

Yeah, I also tried Mobo, didn't work.
I wonder what's wrong? It can't be the video files, as they play just fine on my Samsung GSII.
Yeah i think you are defiantly doing something wrong..
In MX player and Mobo Player make sure you're using the SW decode for playing the movies..
Apart from that maybe you need to provide a little more info so we can help you troubleshoot. The NT definitely plays AVI and it does it quite well so maybe there's just something a little screwed up in your system..
thnaks
it worked for me

[Q] How to play flv videos on Samsung Galaxy S2

Try to install adobe flash player.
Flv is not flash (swf is).
OP, download a 3rd party player from the market. I recommend: vlc and rockplayer.
Sent from my digital submersible hovercraft.
Yes it is. Flash video content can be embedded in .flv files or .swf files.
Edit - OP: You can either use one of the players F-R suggested, or if you really want to install/use Flash, look at this thread. There's also a link in that thread for detailed instructions on how install on JB (don't know if it works or not/haven't tried it as I'm not running JB).

Flv is a video format. Flash is a programm.

Yes. I'm aware of what Adobe Flash is. And I'm also aware that .flv is a video format. What you don't seem to be aware of/understand is that Flash video content can be imbedded in file types .flv and .swf. In other words, if I've got Flash installed, I can view content in either format (and as you pointed out you can use 3rd party apps to view .flv files as well).
So if I install Adobe Flash (as opposed to a 3rd party app), I can view Flash content on websites directly in my browser without having to **** around with other apps (I use Firefox & manually installed the Flash apk & confirm this works flawlessly).
Mx player works great too..
Maybe annoying with the ads, but you'll get used to it (unless you wnat to pay for it)
VLC player handles some .flv files. The official version is in beta at the moment but is perfectly usable in my experience.
thanks for replying.
I've installed flash player and now browser supports swf files playing, but not flv. also installed vlc and rockplayer(and many players) as you said but no result. I am trying to play flv videos like http://depositfiles.com/files/xxdod800p . how about playing this video with swf player in browser?

Youtube uses flv right? And that is working?
BSPlayer plays the file but i can only here someone talking(black screen)
I found the solution to this problem. I renamed the format of this video - flv to swf and opened this file in browser and bingo, browser played this flash swf file.
Two Solutions

The stock video player on SII is great it can play even flv but that depens on the codec used in the flv. Some flv videos can be played with the stock others flv videos can. You can do two things.
1. (harder way) convert the video to mp4 galaxy s2 format (search on google for galaxy s2 video converter, like imtoo its good and etc.)
2.(easy way) install third party video player from playstore The good ones are BS Player and MX Player, but BS player is better because you can change the theme and it has better user friendly interface. And with BS player you can get popup video and play songs (you can use it like music player)
