[Q] App or method to select audio output - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hope someone can help with this question. I'm looking to identify a method to select the audio output source through an app or some other method, ideally through tasker or some state aware app.
My situation is this, I have a car head unit with built in bluetooth but it only supports the headset profile but has a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack. When I am listening to music via the headphone jack and have a call come in the phone tries to row the audio output out the 3.5 jack while the stereo switches over to the bluetooth, causing a mad scramble to unplug the headphone cable. I'm hoping someone has had this problem and found a solution, if not I'll probably be digging into some development to see if I can come up with something to do this for myself.
Thanks for any suggestions

I'm also curious on this topic, in a slightly different capacity - I'd like to be able to listen to my podcasts on my bluetooth headset - it seems either it's unhackable, or there are just not many experts on the subject.

Well I found a bit more information but I'm totally new to android development and really not done much multimedia coding in general. I've found a few helpful links that havn't entirely discouraged me, but I could be misreading them.
I'll be digging in if I get some spare time this weekend and hope I can come up with something unless someone knows of something already Hint..Hint
I'll try to keep posting so if anyone else needs something like this.

Surprisingly .. no single direction or helpful response (including mine) in 4 years in XDA for this request/query?? I think this is the most exciting challenge for a developer but not seeing the spark? Are we the only users who needs this feature in the world?

[wanted] Cradle / docking station with audio speaker

Folks,
does anyone know a cradle or docking station with built-in speaker that can be used with the Touch HD?
I really like my Touch HD, but I'm green with envy any time I see the plenty and great audio accessories for the iPhone. Things could be so easy - plug the device in and enjoy your music. But alas, the market for audio accessories seems to have waned since the times of the older devices (1, 2 etc.).
I've seen some all-round portable speakers, but most of them are crappy both in build and audio quality. What I'm looking for is a proper speaker system to enjoy music in the living room or kitchen, ideally tailor-made for the HD. Hardware audio controls would be ideal, but with the simple 3.5mm plug, that is not to be ...
Ideas, anyone?

i've also searched for something like that... and i coulden't find anything...
at the end i got the following bluetooth speaker
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessories/overview/mbs-100?lc=en&cc=gb
and i can say i'm loving it...the sound is great for such a small speaker and it can go for about 8 hours without being charged...
my only wish now is that a buy a never model that features 2 speakers

hope it help..
if you find some docking-speaker system for the HD, please post it...
qtype,
thanks for the suggestions!
It's some consolation that I'm not the only one missing an accessory like that. I'm specifically looking for a docking station/cradle with speaker because I'd like to use it on my nightstand - alarm clock, music player and charger all-in-one. So no luck yet ...
As for bluetooth speakers, I've used the good old Saitek A-250 and recently the Parrot Party, and the sound is quite okay with both - possibly even a bit better with the Saitek, but that's not so portable and robust. So the Saitek is good for the kitchen or the bedroom, while you can take the Parrot with you. With a bit more bulk than your SE.
Anyway - maybe something will come up.
Cheers,
N.
I was searching for cradle to chg phone & extra battery, found 1 on ebay, but I did run across what your looking for. don't remember where but it was there. Quig

JACK conector and another JACK for Phone??

First of all thank the Comunity and this site for their tremendous efforts throughout the development of roms, more than once because reading and reading and reading I have resolved all doubts!
I will try to explain as best as possible, to have if anyone can help.
I'm happy owner of a HTC Shift for over two years, which is purchased in a thrift store and everything has been perfect so far.
The problem must be the JACK audio, initially plugging and unplugging the headphones when you restart and some tricks but everything was going perfectly, until one day no longer heard the speakers.
Putting the headphones the sound is coming in windows 7, but in Windows Mobile not heard anything (before it was heard ringing through the headset intense ).... I assume that JACK CONECTOR is a failure, the case is that I have completely dismantled the shift and is the first time I see a JACK of this kind and are not where they compare, ask at several shops in Barcelona and do not know what kind it is.
If somebody could help me or tell me where to buy.
My idea if I fix this problem is put in the hole next to that Jack, another for connecting the headset and microphone and boring windows mobile housing for output and thus be able to use it as mobile and able to speak and hear for the handsfree
Well, if anyone can help me would greatly appreciate it, thank you for your attention and greetings from Spain
Thank you for your attention and greetings to the entire community
pd: Sorry if my English is a little poor...

[Q] Use of external microphone on Android [SOLVED]

Hi..
I have a question on how to get a external microphone to work on my Galaxy Nexus.
For further detail see my full description here:

Tried to ask in the Galaxy Nexus forum, but no one answered me, and i think the question is also relevant for other phones as well. Thats why i have posted here...
Really hope someone can help me
Thanks
I have found the solution myself...

Use of Ext. Mic on Android when Recording Video [SOLVED]
External Microphones and Video Recording.
The existing thread discussed the solution to the general question of using an external microphone with a combo jack. I however ran into a related problem when I tried to use an external microphone when recording video with the standard camera app.
As noted in the thread above, the first step is using a splitter adapter which splits the signal into two distinct ports - one that can be used for a microphone input connection (mono), and the other for stereo output to a headphone. I used a StarTech MUYHSMFF adapter that cost about $8.00 (US). :good:
This solution worked for straight audio recording as I could indeed record audio. But the solution failed when I tried to record video. Obviously, this meant that the problem was a software problem either in the camera app or in Android itself, as opposed to a hardware problem.
The Asus technical support person suggested that I try a new camera app. I download and tried seven or eight camera apps to no avail. Asus support then suggested that it was a problem in Android and said that I would just have to wait until there was a new version and hope that the problem was addressed.
As I bought my tablet primarily to record and edit video segments, I was not satisfied with this answer.
After an ungodly long search, I came across a site that stated that the IgCamera App was the only camera app to overcome this problem. While I don't know if it is the only app that works, the IgCamera does work and work well.
One minor note. As the combo jack only allows a mono input, I bought a mono cable extension to connect to my lavalier microphone. The only mono cable that I could find was a data transfer cable. Unfortunately, this cable created a major impedance problem: every recording had a loud buzz. I switched to a stereo cable which eliminated the problem. A wireless mic would be even better.
The real solution, of course, is for the manufacturers to provide a separate mic port, something that costs money so they probably won''t did it. A separate mic port would also provide the option of recording in stereo.

Enable Phone Mic With Call Audio Through Bluetooth?

Here's my situation: In my car, I often have my OG connected to my stereo with an A2DP bluetooth audio receiver (without a mic). This works well for listening to music, or getting directions from the nav. However, if I answer a call while connected to it, I can hear the audio through my car speakers, but the other person can't hear me. I understand that the OG's internal mic is disabled at this point, as it is expecting a bluetooth mic to be connected. The work-around I have found is to disable bluetooth for phone calls. This plays the call audio through the phone speaker, and utilizes the internal mic like normal speakerphone.
What I would like is a mix of the two. I want the call audio to play through the car speakers, but enable the OG's internal mic so I can talk through that. Does anyone know of an app or setting I'm missing that might accomplish this?
Thanks.
No, but that sounds like it would be really easy to code if you wanted to learn some java.
(Disclosure: I don't know java)
I was hoping to use this in the next few days. I don't think I can learn java that quickly. But I agree, it seems like it should be pretty easy to accomplish. Software turns the mic off, it should be able to turn it back on.

Hi Digil,
Did you find a way of doing this? I have a Galaxy Note 2 with the same setup in my car and I was wondering if you found a solution...
Thanks

Hey Ishkatar, nope I didn't find a solution yet, but I haven't spent too much time looking. I've been busy with work and traveling to see family on this holiday weekend. I'll definitely post here if I find anything.

The SoundAbout app seems like it will work when the phone is connected to a headset (audio out through headset, input via phone mic). But I can't find anything that will accomplish that when outputting audio through BT.

Yes, I tried it and it did not work with BT... After much research and testing multiple BT Manager apps I decided to return the BT adaptor and I'll think about buying a full BT hands-free connector...

Yeah, I think I might be forced to go with that Belkin adapter shown in the link above, which Is too bad because I was hoping not to spend anymore money, haha.
phone mic instead of bluetooth device
I had the same problem. I got fed up and decided to move the bluetooth mic to a more convenient location in my car, since I could not disable it. Before I re-positioned the un-soldered mic to a new location, I decided to make sure my soldering did not inadvertently damage any of the device. To my delight, without the mic being physically present, it defaulted to my phone mic. So, for me at least my problem was solved by removing the mic in question. I have no idea if it will work on other bluetooth devices.
any progress?
Just for info, after much research I don't think this is possible as Android does not allow routing of call audio to A2DP at all, probably due to security reasons?
I just plug a lead to the headphone jack and patch into the auxiliary input of my stereo. I also had one of those USB dongal Bluetooth receivers that worked exactly that way but it stopped working and other ones don't work, the one that did work was able to connect to phone audio as well as media audio. So it seems that if the mic can be disabled form the other end the Android mic will kick in. Android OS sucks you cannot do anything with the hardware. PC's piss over Google.
They probably don't do it because of latency error affecting feedback canceling. And what has external hardware got to do with security. Google just uses it as an excuse to getaway with marketing an inferior OS.
I wonder if I can replicate this. I need to kill the awful mic in my car Bluetooth so I can use phone mic
Has anyone tested this with non-native Calls like Skype, Facebook Calling, Zoom.US, what's app etc.?
it's totally unacceptable that I can use A2DP stereo audio + Computer Built in Microphone, but I can't do this with android!
Companies are taking off the headphone jack but they haven't figured out HD Bluetooth microphones yet!
Are any updates on this thread? maybe some apps could rout mic?

Hack Sony's Digital Noise Cancelling?

Hello everyone,
This might seem like an awkward question but please take time to understand how I'm thinking about this.
I had received the Sony MDR-NC31EM that fairly impressed me with their Noise Cancelling feature, especially when I was in any form of transport. Of course, like any other headset, the wiring deteriorated and I didn't try to fix it because the 5 pins are really hard to figure out and solder back.
Anyway, I know that you need a decent headset and a stereo microphone to achieve this, but has anyone tried to "hack" the detection of NC headsets so it might work with normal headsets with a mono mic?
I'm saying this because of two reasons :
When my MDR-NC31EM started misbehaving, sometimes the phone detected the NC feature so it enabled it but yet, only one mic was correctly working, the NC was pretty decent like everything was normal. This is maybe because the phone does not only rely on the detected audio but also uses something else (A friend explained me that due to latency, the phone might use a preset algorithm which may explain the possibility to choose NC type; Train/Bus, Plane, Office).
I have a second headset, with a mono mic and the wiring is a little deteriorated so sometimes the phone detects it as an NC headset and it works. Of course, the noise cancelling is not as precise as with the original Sony headset, but it still take off a part of the ambient noise (I've tried with few audio samples to make sure).
So, with some decent headset and a good mono mic, maybe it can work? Did anyone try to figure out how all this work? I've made some research and I bump on people saying that you need stereo mics and so on. But I can confirm you that with my crappy headset it worked partially. Maybe some fine tuning?
Finally, I'm not a specialist in all this, I might be really wrong, but I feel really curious about this.
Thank you in advance!
