GPS settings changed...voodoo? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The GPS on my un-rooted Vibrant has been working quite well since the JI6 update. That update changed several of the dialer-accessed settings, and I haven't messed with any of them since the phone was finally working. I also didn't do the GPS Restore app because I figured why try to fix something that's not broken.
However, today, for the first time in two months, I couldn't get any locks. The GPS found a dozen satellites and showed normal signal strengths (25-40%) for the majority of them, but it kept losing and finding them, and got no locks. When I tried using Google Maps, it thought I was around Las Vegas (I'm in the Pacific NW), and the accuracy circle was probably 500 miles.
I rebooted the phone, but that didn't help. Then I decided to go into the GPS settings and found that there were two changes that I hadn't made: the Server FQDN type had switched from Auto Config to Custom, and the Server had switched from "h-slp.mnc260.mcc310.pub.3gpp" (which first appeared with JI6) to "www.spirent-lcs.com." I changed back to Auto Config, but didn't change the server, and re-booted. Then I went to the GPS Test app again and got a lock on 7 of 11 satellites in about 20 seconds with 20' accuracy.
Finally, I went back into the GPS settings: it was still set to Auto Config, but the Server had mysteriously switched back to "h-slp.mnc260.mcc310.pub.3gpp."
I had assumed that once I made a change to the GPS settings they stayed thay way unless I went back in to modify them, or I installed an update or the Samsung GPS Restore app. So, was this just some weird hiccup where my phone reverted to some old settings on its own, or what? I'm also curious to know what info is stored in the GPS Data Cache (which I've never cleared since I've had the phone)...in particular, could this be the source of the switched Server settings?

This is very odd however you'd get better help in Vibrant section tbh.

Seems like this was a problem for many people regardless of the configuration of their phone. Check out this thread:

GPS not locking in. Tried most known fixes...

I'm on NottachTrix. No OS, firmware changes were made to cause this issue. No new apps. It just started on its own.
I've had similar issues twice before. First time it was fixed with a Google Maps update, second time it was fixed by turning off "use wireless networks" under location.
Neither fix worked this time (Maps were out of date).
Symptoms are like this:
With "use wireless networks" OFF GPS not able to lock in at all. Been testing it for hours. With "use wireless networks" it gets within about a 1000 feet but never locks in.
In the past even if Maps was not able to lock in, Navigation did. Now its seems to be having issues too.
I tried GPS status, cleared A-GPS data. I've tried changing the radio. I was on N_01.77.30P originally. GPS status was able to find 6 satellites but not lock into any, I Flashed N_01.77.37P, no luck, was not able to find a sat in 5 min test. Flashed N_01.77.36P, able to find 3 sats not lock in. Tried to re-flash N_01.77.30P but it gives me an Install aborted message (can't downgrade that far)?
Any suggestions?
I dont see how it can be related to the ROM as it worked perfectly fine before so i did not try complete wipes or factory resets, i dont this they would help.
I have also tried using the libnmea.so from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29080916&postcount=5
and tried adding ntp servers from:

I would try 3 things... first wipe dalvik cache and then check gps, reinstall rom without wipe and see if that helps. If it doesn't then I would do a full system wipe and install a fresh version of your rom and see where that takes you. Software can become corrupted even when we change nothing.
I recently ran into the same problem with GPS not locking on my Atrix. Here's how I solved it after trying the things you mentioned which didn't work:
Turned out the antenna contacts were loose. After opening the phone, I disconnected the antenna connector from the main board. Then pulled out the antenna cable from the silver clip. There is a third contact point on the other end of the antenna (opposite end from the connector) that is bent up to touch the antenna. This contact had bent back down over time. I bent this back up (very gently) to make sure it made solid contact. I also 'tighted' the silver clip contact by pinching it slightly before re-inserting the antenna cable. Then I re-connected the main connector. I also cleaned dust buildup. Closed phone and powered up. GPS now consistently locks within 10s with 3-6m accuracy! (Note: Radio is 38P running Epinter's 10.1 Rom 072013 build)
I solved this problem by replacing the gps.conf on this ( Only change location on yours)

[Q] No GPS coordinates in photos

No GPS coordinates in photos
Guys, I need your advice.
I am travelling with turned-off cellular data on my i9100 since I am abroad.
I am taking pictures - a lot of pictures. But I just found out that app. 90% of them do NOT have GPS coordinates.
I tried everything:
- checked settings
- restarted phones
- connected to WIFI
- installed GPS Config for rooted phones and set up the location
- flashed ROMs (AOSP, AOKP, MIUI, stock ROMs).
BUT nothing helped. I think that something is wrong with my phone.
Why? Because iPad Mini + iPhone 5 captured GPS coordinates IMMEDIATELY. I mean in 1 second!
The strangest thing is that Navigon gets GPS position really fast on i9100, but it cannot navigate me - it is waiting and connects after app 2 mins.
Thanks for help.
It looks like that stock-based ROM are better - if you wait app. 1 minute, it gets GPS data to your photo.
Good ROM is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2411990
Otherwise, it is still bad that you need to wait to get the GPS fix.
iPhone really gets it in 1 second.
So buy an iPhone. I've never had GPS problems with the S2 provided I regularly clear then update the ephemeris data (which is basically the position of the satellites at different times/in different locations; in GPS Status - tools/manage A-GPS state - reset data then download new data), and then put the phone in flight mode (obviously with GPS on) & stand outside with good line of sight in all directions to enable it to 'learn' where the satellites are for 5 minutes or so/until you get a good fix. This has always enabled me to get a fast/accurate fix for a couple of weeks until the ephemeris data gets old, then I repeat the process.
I do have iPhone 5 ... that is why I could have compared the GPS results.
How do you reset "ephemeris data"?
I tried GPS config for ROOTed phones, but it does not help.
(I set up the country in the settings.)
Generally speaking - if I am in my country, there is no problem.
BUT: Once I am abroad and have cellular data turned off, then I cannot get GPS in my photos.
I tried about 10 ROMS - but all are the same ===> no GPS if you take photos when you are abroad.

Location not updating

Running stock rezound ics w/root. For a year or so everything has been working awesome. For the past 2 weeks suddenly I've noticed after about 2-3 days the location stops updating on my device. By this I mean:
- Tasker network location is incorrect (shows the same spot even though I'm 30+ miles away) and will not update
- Weatherbug shows the same location as tasker and never updates
- Google maps works just fine still
I have gps off, google location on, verizon location off. As I've said, everything works find for 2-3 days, then it just stops and never starts updating until I reboot. Any ideas?
This seems to have stopped now for some reason (at least for 2 weeks). The only thing I changed was to uninstall the weather channel app. Weird.

SM-G925F Location Issues...

I'm in the UK and have a UK Galaxy S6 Edge running G925FXXU3COI9, stock/unrooted.
It's got a location problem. Firstly, I have the 'My Places' widget set up, but made the mistake a few months ago of changing my 'Home' location whilst I was on holiday. Now I can't get it to let go of that alternative location. I've tried setting it as the current location (my actual home) many many times, but it always goes back to the Orlando address. I've tried resetting the 'My Places' app, removing Data/Cache, but nothing has worked so far. The workaround is to set it to use 'Wifi' as the determining factor, but even then, after a short while it reinstates the 'Map' method and adds the Orlando address.
Also, I've recently moved Work locations. I set my new Work address in my Google Account 'Places', a few days ago and it shows correctly there, but my phone still thinks I work in the old location. If I go into the 'Maps' app, the blue pointer thinks I'm in the old location, if I rotate the phone, the arrow rotates, but nothing I do makes it see where I actually am. Again, I've removed Data/Cache and its still the same.
I just voice prompted Google Now with 'Where am I'. It gave me my old work address where I haven't been for over a week. I also removed all the Google Now card preferences and that made no difference.
Any ideas?
So, I went into Google Maps at the weekend, my phone could see that I was at home. I've made the journey to work this morning and my phone currently thinks I am at my old place of work, which is about 6 miles from here.
How can it be so?!

GPS Problem - Oreo 8.1

Hi guys!
I experience some problems with the GPS on my Nokia phone with Oreo 8.1. This is how it looks like in the GPS Test app:
https://img1.picload.org/image/dlori...803-201912.png
I tried the following
- turned off the 4G
- also turned on/off the WiFi
- tried changing the location mode from high accuracy to device only
- cleared the AGPS - again no signal, then updated the AGPS, same thing
- restarted the phone
- turned off the phone, waited for a while, turned it on again
- removed the SIM card, waited for a while, put it in again
Google maps finds my location, also Runtastic but it says that GPS signal is weak and tracking will not work. So something is obviously wrong here. This happened before as well, then the GPS worked perfectly for about a week, now I have the problem again.
Can anybody please help? Thanks!
Hi again,
So the GPS started working again yesterday for a while. It behaved perfectly with no issues and accuracy of 1 meter. Then when I started the app later, it could not get a fix again... Today it is working (for now). I even tested it home in a room and it has 21 satellites in view, 11 in use, with 3 meters accuracy. For comparison my other phone can only see 17 and uses 5.
So when the GPS decides to turn on, it works perfectly. But it also often happens that it cannot fix. Would you guys say that this is a hardware or software error? If it is the software I would be willing to wait for an update. If it is a hardware problem I still have 4 days left to return the phone, so please let me know. Thanks!
Did you ever find a fix?
All three of my stinking Androids are having this issue since updating to Oreo and Pie. I drive hours a day and NEVER had this issue until I updated and it started occurring right after the update. I even bought a brand new Pixel XL an it's doing the same thing.
