I'm in the UK and have a UK Galaxy S6 Edge running G925FXXU3COI9, stock/unrooted.
It's got a location problem. Firstly, I have the 'My Places' widget set up, but made the mistake a few months ago of changing my 'Home' location whilst I was on holiday. Now I can't get it to let go of that alternative location. I've tried setting it as the current location (my actual home) many many times, but it always goes back to the Orlando address. I've tried resetting the 'My Places' app, removing Data/Cache, but nothing has worked so far. The workaround is to set it to use 'Wifi' as the determining factor, but even then, after a short while it reinstates the 'Map' method and adds the Orlando address.
Also, I've recently moved Work locations. I set my new Work address in my Google Account 'Places', a few days ago and it shows correctly there, but my phone still thinks I work in the old location. If I go into the 'Maps' app, the blue pointer thinks I'm in the old location, if I rotate the phone, the arrow rotates, but nothing I do makes it see where I actually am. Again, I've removed Data/Cache and its still the same.
I just voice prompted Google Now with 'Where am I'. It gave me my old work address where I haven't been for over a week. I also removed all the Google Now card preferences and that made no difference.
Any ideas?
So, I went into Google Maps at the weekend, my phone could see that I was at home. I've made the journey to work this morning and my phone currently thinks I am at my old place of work, which is about 6 miles from here.
How can it be so?!

Hi,
I am wondering if there is an application out there that will log my activity so I can see what services or applications ran that day.
The reason for asking is that I suddenly developed an issue a few weeks ago where the data connection will, apparently randomly, turn itself on. I haven't ever been lucky enough to catch it right when the data comes on, and when I check task manager I don't see any applications running to cause it. I am thinking I maybe either inherited a virus at some point, or I have an application that is attempting to update itself or something. But I haven't installed anything for months so it could be any old program. I checked scheduled tasks but don't see anything there.
I have done 'the usual' of making sure weather, stocks, email are not causing it.
Many thanks in advance for any help or ideas.

Turn off "My Location"
Thanks for the reply. I'm assuming you mean 'my location' in google maps? When I manually click 'my location' it doesn't turn my data on (TMobile HTC TP2). Are you suggesting it actually can turn data on in some background mode? I thought it got the information from cell locations, no?

Yes, info from cell locations(data).
Start/Settings/Personal/Phone/GSM Services(CDMA for some)/Location Setting
It's used for Google, HTC weather updates, location on home screen, etc
tyvm. First of all, DUH!, I was attached to activesync when I tested it, so that's why it didn't connect to data.
When I follow your steps I don't see anything about 'my location' (WM6.1 TMobile) after Start/Settings/Personal/Phone. I have a tab just called 'services', but it's not in there. But anyway, I went to googlemaps and there I had the option to disable my location, so I am assuming that does the same thing. I'll leave that off for a few days and see if that solves the problem.
Many thanks again for taking the time to respond.
Unfortunately the 'my location' wasn't the problem as the data came back on again today.
I think the best way to resolve it is going to be the log file, so...
Is there any application out there that can log activity on the phone, i.e. that can tell me which applications, services and processes ran during the day?
Thanks very much.
Get SPB Wireless Monitor-it logs all data usage (3g, wifi, active sync, whatever). The demo is fully loaded.
TYVM! Can't wait for my rogue program to run again
The GPS on my un-rooted Vibrant has been working quite well since the JI6 update. That update changed several of the dialer-accessed settings, and I haven't messed with any of them since the phone was finally working. I also didn't do the GPS Restore app because I figured why try to fix something that's not broken.
However, today, for the first time in two months, I couldn't get any locks. The GPS found a dozen satellites and showed normal signal strengths (25-40%) for the majority of them, but it kept losing and finding them, and got no locks. When I tried using Google Maps, it thought I was around Las Vegas (I'm in the Pacific NW), and the accuracy circle was probably 500 miles.
I rebooted the phone, but that didn't help. Then I decided to go into the GPS settings and found that there were two changes that I hadn't made: the Server FQDN type had switched from Auto Config to Custom, and the Server had switched from "h-slp.mnc260.mcc310.pub.3gpp" (which first appeared with JI6) to "www.spirent-lcs.com." I changed back to Auto Config, but didn't change the server, and re-booted. Then I went to the GPS Test app again and got a lock on 7 of 11 satellites in about 20 seconds with 20' accuracy.
Finally, I went back into the GPS settings: it was still set to Auto Config, but the Server had mysteriously switched back to "h-slp.mnc260.mcc310.pub.3gpp."
I had assumed that once I made a change to the GPS settings they stayed thay way unless I went back in to modify them, or I installed an update or the Samsung GPS Restore app. So, was this just some weird hiccup where my phone reverted to some old settings on its own, or what? I'm also curious to know what info is stored in the GPS Data Cache (which I've never cleared since I've had the phone)...in particular, could this be the source of the switched Server settings?
This is very odd however you'd get better help in Vibrant section tbh.
Seems like this was a problem for many people regardless of the configuration of their phone. Check out this thread:

All of a sudden today, when unlocking my phone, I've seen this message pop up on the home screen for like 2 seconds. I figured it was just a random fluke and powered down but then when I went to click on refreshing my weather widget which is always set to the same zip code, it happened again. This widget is set to manual refresh, I have to click it to get an updated forecast. Then it happened again a few minutes later after simply unlocking the screen like it was doing earlier.
I've had Network Location services for wifi and gps turned off for a good 3 weeks or so. I only activate those on an as-needed basis. I don't use any apps that acquire my location (weather, facebook, etc.) I have the bear minimum apps running in 'Running Services' and I'm running the configuration in my sig (UnNamed, Entropy's DD, ICScrewd Theme). Any ideas what's going on?
does it happen every time you refresh the weather widget?
if it does I would try a different widget, just to see whether it goes away.
I just had GMail do this to me this morning (when I tried to refresh - I have that set to manual). I turned on location services (wifi and GPS) and let it get my location, then turned them back off. That seemed to take care of it. Might be a cookie based kind of thing - I loaded a new ROM yesterday and hadn't let it get a lock yet.
I just remembered that I updated Google Maps yesterday via the Market. I think that's the culprit. I can't see any setting though which I can change to disable automatic updating. I've gotten this message now like 3 times this morning.
Ive temporarily turned on Location Services for wifi/GPS but I prefer them off as I get much better battery life with them disabled.

This seems to be happening to me more and more. Cannot pinpoint the culprit.
is this still an issue for anyone? It certainly is for me
So I updated my phone to ICS (LPQ) last night/today, but today before I left my house my phone beeped at me. This caused me to take a look and see that something "Panel" was requesting my device configuration.
It then set my APN for my internet (a little off, but most of the the settings were right) and the APN for MMS which was spot on.
I've tried to find this app/setting almost all of today both on my phone and online but to no avail. Does anyone have a clue?
its not quite working for me. I have GPS and wifi both on. It worked once since I facotry resetted the phone. Then I rebooted the phone and its showing no data icon. I tried the tap to refresh and no luck.
also the time that worked it took quite a long time to get the info.
more info: my located is currently in china right now. maybe the data fetch will be faster when im back in the states. i duno
