So I updated my phone to ICS (LPQ) last night/today, but today before I left my house my phone beeped at me. This caused me to take a look and see that something "Panel" was requesting my device configuration.
It then set my APN for my internet (a little off, but most of the the settings were right) and the APN for MMS which was spot on.
I've tried to find this app/setting almost all of today both on my phone and online but to no avail. Does anyone have a clue?

I'm getting connection errors several times a day that require me to soft-reset the phone. Basically an error message pops up on the home screen from the EV or "bars" icons that says "Dialed: Phone as Modem. Cannot Connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again." I also get a nearly identical error: "Dialed: #777. Cannot Connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again."
Sometimes, the EV box will change to 1x and then back to EV and the bars display will drop for a moment and show the "antenna" rather than the arrows. This will then cycle over and over.
I am running the original ROM without much else installed (emoze, Sprint Picture Mail, and Windows Live Search). Its been getting worse in the past week (bad enough that I started searching forums for discussion of it).
Anybody having similar problems?
UPDATE - I called Sprint and they said they are aware of the issue and said that they are working on it but don't have a permanent solution at this time. What they had me do was use the dial pad to log into the phone and change the account profile and then change it back. Not sure if that did anything or not since I just got off the phone with them and haven't had enough time to see if it's helps.
I think your problem is similar to mine. I haven't gotten a chance to call them, but all I did was turn the phone communication option off then on and data connection back on.
I've owned a Touch Pro for a few months now and overall it's a good device. It has its quirks, but then again what phone doesn't? There is one problem in particular, however, that I can't seem to figure out. I've searched up and down in XDA Forums, and on Google, and I just can't find out a fix for my data connection always turning on for no reason. I have all my e-mail accounts set to "manual send / recieve", the weather program set to "update weather manually", and as far as I know there are no other programs on my phone that have access to the internet without my permission.
The problem I have is sometimes I will wake my phone up from its sleep mode, and I will discover that the data connection is active and appearing to be transmitting. Also, EVERY time I restart my phone and it goes through the boot process, the data connection will re-activate even before TouchFLO 3D opens up on the today screen. It's really annoying, because I have no idea what's causing it to do this, or why it does it at random times, or whenever I reset my device.
Does anyone have any solutions to this problem? I hate having to manually go in periodically and make sure my data connection is set to "off", instead of having it stay that way when I set it.
So no help on this one then?
I don't have a solution but I can help by bumping your thread and saying I have the same problem on Verizon. I was at a friend's place all weekend, and he has wifi all over, so I turned off data and used his wifi instead. Well sure enough all weekend my data connection kept turning itself back on. It seemed to happen only when going into sleep mode. So I kept the phone plugged in so it would never totally "sleep". Wifi stayed connected with no data connection starting automatically. Annoying especially considering the 5 GB data limit on the PDA plan.
Well I'm glad I'm at least not alone on this one. It's weird too that even though your device is on a different carrier, it still does the same thing. I wonder if it's a hardware issue?
I know that someone has to have an answer for this...
go into pocket express and press menu then go to express settings then on the top left theres a pulldown press it and go into auto updates and turn it off.. pissed me off when i got the phone.. couldnt find a fix till i started going through all the programs to find the one doing it.. and it was the stupid Pocket Express
I have had my MDA Compact V for a few months now, and it's only recently that I've had the same problem. Each time I switch on, my data connection starts or alternatively if I loose signal then get it back then I see my data connection is on again. Thankfully I have the Solo 20 package with unlimited net usage (although you're are limited to 1Gb/month) but it drains my battery really badly.
I went through every possible setting and program to switch off location settings or auto downloads/updates and I still have the same problem, but I downloaded Data Controller v1.00 from Freewarepocketpc.net and I can toggle my data connection on or off as I please.
Heres what you need
Install below cab, then use the NODATA app, select what you want off, PHONE AS MODEM and DATA are your two options I believe... Your data will never come back on... until you re-enable it that is....
PS... THIS IS NOT MY CAB, THIS IS SOMETHING I FOUND WHEN TRYING TO ADDRESS THESAME PROBLEM YOU ARE HAVING. THIS CAB WAS DOWNLOADED FROM MoDaCo BUT I DONT HAVE THE LINK... ALL RESPECTS GO TO HIM... I AM JUST SHARING WHAT HAS WORKED FOR ME IN THE PAST...
Seems it's one or the other
What sucks is on my Sprint HTC touch pro 2 (cdma), I was having a problem where I couldn't answer calls all the time, but sometimes I could, and eventually found that it was always when the data connection was showing active is when I couldn't answer a call. But when that was happening, my data connection would turn back off after a few seconds when I was done using it. It was driving me crazy not being able to answer my calls and I finally found a post that let me correct that problem, it was changing the HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\SuspendResume value that fixed this problem... the value of this registry setting was originally "GPRS_bye_if_device_off". This setting made it so the data connection would turn off when not being used, but it apparently messes up cdma phones from being able to switch over to answer an incoming phone call if the data connection is active. I changed this registry entry to "#777" as the post said to do, and sure enough, that corrected the problem with being able to answer my calls if the data connection is active. I'm real happy to have that working now, but when I changed this setting, my data connection is now always showing active (white arrows showing in status) and even if I turn it off manually, it comes on by it's self way more often than the every 4 hours I have it set to check emails.
There is a registry setting called CacheTime under the same Settings key as the above mentioned registry entry that I changed, that when the "GPRS_bye_if_device_off" value is used, the CacheTime key value will indeed control how long the data connection stays on before automatically turning off. But When I change the Entry to "#777" which is necessary to allow me to answer calls when data is active, then changing the CacheTime value has no effect and the data connection stays on until you manually turn it off.
I'd like to find a way to turn the data connection off, while still not messing up me being able to answer calls when the data connection is active, and seems to me that if both of these things can be done separately with two different registry settings, that it must be possible to do both.... so if any of you tech wizards can find a way to do this, I'd love to see it!
Possible Fix?
Hey, I have noticed the same problem. It is annoying from a battery life aspect as well as a system slowdown when coming out of sleep. I could not find much of a workaround except one of the settings in TD3 Tools I installed. In the "Data Connection" tab you can yurn on an option that makes your "End" key also terminate an active data connections. So if you hit it after waking your phone you won't have the annoying slowdown with your Sense UI...
My dad bought his sgs2 this week. I have sgs1 which I bought early this year and since my dad likes it so much I recommended him to buy the latest sgs2.
Its only been a week now and the phone loses internet connection for 5 times now (the signal "E", "G", "H" on the notification bar disappears). After phone restart the same problem occurs. Only after a hard reset the phone returns to normal. The APN setting are still there but the phone loses internet connection until I do a hard reset.
Can someone help? Its frustrating cause my dad is 60 yrs old & he has no clue about APN and whatnot. All he does with the phone is look through his facebook, web browsing, make calls and read his free king james bible app which 'I' help download from the market
Make sure that you have the option Packet Data ticked always and also the correct APN is selected.
Regards.
I am on a rooted i777 and have been having signal issues pretty much for the two months I've had this phone. I've done some searching to see what the problem may be but have not come across much.
What happens is that when I have a strong cell signal I am able to send messages and make calls but about 60% of the time when I try to load a web page, update an app's content, or open the market (access the internet in general) I am unable to and left with an "unable to connect" message. During these times only the outgoing arrow of the two beneath the H+ is active. In such situations I switch to wifi but I would rather not have to, especially with an unlimited data plan. So my question is why is this happening and what can I do to fix it. I've nearly thrown the POS over this. It is very odd to say the least. It should be noted that I replaced my AT&T sim card a few weeks ago to no avail. Thank you
I've had similar issues. At various times throughout the day, my phone will be completely without signal or with signal but unable to get any data. I also changed the SIM card to no avail. I don't believe it's the phone but either AT&T or the settings.
Is it possible your reception is dropping off at these times? Does your phone switch to EDGE or GPRS?
Try changing your APN with one of the apps in the market. That tripled my speeds and once I get a new APN to stick, I suspect it will fix the loss of a data connection.
If that doesn't work, return it to bone stock and do a warranty exchange.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
I had no data connection tonight and almost nothing worked. In the end, I turned Airplane Mode on and off. That returned my data connection.
I think once it loses signal, it only checks every x minutes. Mine would go a while with no signal, but pick it up immediately if I toggled airplane mode, as you found.
I'm in the UK and have a UK Galaxy S6 Edge running G925FXXU3COI9, stock/unrooted.
It's got a location problem. Firstly, I have the 'My Places' widget set up, but made the mistake a few months ago of changing my 'Home' location whilst I was on holiday. Now I can't get it to let go of that alternative location. I've tried setting it as the current location (my actual home) many many times, but it always goes back to the Orlando address. I've tried resetting the 'My Places' app, removing Data/Cache, but nothing has worked so far. The workaround is to set it to use 'Wifi' as the determining factor, but even then, after a short while it reinstates the 'Map' method and adds the Orlando address.
Also, I've recently moved Work locations. I set my new Work address in my Google Account 'Places', a few days ago and it shows correctly there, but my phone still thinks I work in the old location. If I go into the 'Maps' app, the blue pointer thinks I'm in the old location, if I rotate the phone, the arrow rotates, but nothing I do makes it see where I actually am. Again, I've removed Data/Cache and its still the same.
I just voice prompted Google Now with 'Where am I'. It gave me my old work address where I haven't been for over a week. I also removed all the Google Now card preferences and that made no difference.
Any ideas?
So, I went into Google Maps at the weekend, my phone could see that I was at home. I've made the journey to work this morning and my phone currently thinks I am at my old place of work, which is about 6 miles from here.
How can it be so?!
