Gingerbread is OUT! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So now that 2.3 is out and the specs of the Nexus S are dang near the Vibrant... it would be fairly easy to load onto our devices right?
Do you think the FFC will work with the upgrade?

So I'm pretty excited about froyo, would love to try it. I heard that it has been leaked or something. Any froyo roms in the works?

Official update to 2.2 for N1:
h t tp s://android.clients.google.com/packages/passion/signed-passion-FRF50-from-ERE27.1e519a24.zip
maybe this can be used for HERO GSM
I really hope it lives up to the hype. 450% speed increases?! Is it really that much faster?

the nexus builds wont run on Hero, different dpi's, xml's and graphics wont load at all, u will end up in a constant FC and bootloop.

isnt froyo faster because of JIT?? correct me if im wrong but if this is the case then Sense UI will be near impossible
Why sense ui would note be possible with jit? Htc have planned update to froyo for many devices... and sense is just another java package... no?

Well the first set of roms will just be a clean build of 2.2 any ways no need for sence it just tends to make the roms slower and bigger in size

[Q] Android Gingerbread 2.3

Well, being in the community, I suppose everybody here knows a decent amount on this subject now. Just out of curiosity, any estimates on how quick this can be ported to our beloved Droid Eris'?
i believe Gingerbread is 3.0... and how can something be ported that hasn't been released?
my estimate... 1 year
-------------------------------
also, for future reference, this should be in q&a section (it will save you from the burning flames)

u may be right ,, but i believe ive seen GB being referred to as 2.3 and 3.0 lol
It's pretty much 99% confirmed that gingerbread is 2.3.

I've been seeing it referred to as both 2.3 and 3.0 on other tech sites, for the most part I am seeing Gingerbread referred to as 2.3 and Honeycomb as 3.0. Either way it doesn't matter. Who cares what number it's assigned, it doesn't change the fact that Tenzo is right about not being able to port something that hasn't been released.
Now if we can just get ahold of a leak for the N1.... Then maybe you guys can start porting it! Anyone know someone that works for Google? LOL
ill wait for android ice cream
ahh, then my apologies on code #'s. been more than a month since i've even cared to read about Gingerbread... and now i've seen they've completely gone OB and changed all that up.
in any case, is there really 2 different threads about this now? did google drop something in the oven and everyone is smelling something that i'm missing?
cornbread, gingerbread, gingersnaps...
my theory... if they release, it will come
Eh, call me when they release the 5.0, Rum Cake.

Wait, what? Don't create a thread unless you actually have something to offer in the form of development.

When you say Gingerbread are you referring to the "appearance" of the rom or is the "actual" rom MDPI Gingerbread released from out of nowhere?x\
Just curious by the way.
? Aren't you new to the kitchen? And your working on something big like 2.3?

Is gingerbread going to be able to run smoothly on this device? I know i saw some requirements for like 1Ghz processor but hey there just requirements =) That's why we have Devs and root cant wait

Why not? This thread will probably be made a sticky!
The 1Ghz rumor was fabricated by LG so they dont sandbag sales of their Optimus line. Ive booted the gingerbread build on my EVO and its still very choppy on that. I also have an overclocked slide that very often gives better benchmark scores than my evo because of its smaller screen. That being said, I have no doubt that 2.3 will run very nicely on the slide. In fact the sense rom running on my slide now is MUCH smoother than the Sense HD rom on my EVO. Still, the slide probably wont see 2.3 for months so I wouldnt sweat it
Don't worry guys, I'm working on an Ice Cream based ROM. It has a revamped 3D UI that runs faster than jdkoreclipse!

[Q] Donut/Cupcake on SGS2?

I'm not even kidding, I was wondering if it was possible to compile a donut rom from source that would work on this device. I was going to post in development, because this question is related to development, but I'm going to post in Q&A just to be sure. cupcake would also be fine I guess.

just as you said, just for kicks really I just want to do it.
I imagine the two deal breakers to overcome are compatible bootloaders and functioning kernel.
I know on older devices as 2.2 got upgraded to 2.3 some required updated bootloaders. I imagine there's a way around it, but going 3 to 4 generations back has to in some way play a role with bootloader compatibility.
Kernel should be possible. From how I understand, ics is ported to our phones by using a patched kernel.

I know that you have to update your bootloader... but is it backwards compatible? I used the same hboot version to boot gingerbread and froyo on my inspire when i had it. I wonder if the rom just has to be made and the kernel that we're using now could be backwards compatible.

Yeah paranoid android might be the best bet if you want to try ics and it's not bad minus all the usual bugs because of lack of drivers

When I plug my atrix in does the mouse/keyboard work? And does the usb ports on the lapdock work as usb host?
I doubt it.

Do any of us honestly believe Motorola will every release the ICS update for the Atrix 4G? Correct me if I am wrong, but they push back the due date to the end of the year if not beyond. This normally means they will not do it. Thank God for ROMs and these great developers here. I currently have the AOKP ICS ROM (Milestone 6) on my Atrix 4G and loving it.
I believe the photon got pushed back from Q3 to Q4 and it uses the same tegra 2 chipset as the atrix so that tells us something.

Still Q3, like it has been.
Sure, the Photon got pushed to Q4, but maybe it's because we're first in line. The Atrix was released first.
