question about froyo 2.2 and bionix fusion - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i used odin to flash stock 2.2 froyo, then flashed bionix fusion. i have all of the features of froyo, but when i check on "about phone" it shows that i have 2.1update1... what's up with this?

Can you tell us what features are you talking about?

most notably mobile ap (wifi tethering)... don't know how to check if i have adobe flash...

Ummm, fusion is a 2.1 rom. So it makes perfect sense for it to show 2.1
Sent from my SGH-T959

but its showing that i actually have the stock 2.1-update1 operating system... not just the 2.1 fusion. do i need to flash a custom kernel or anything?

I think that's fine. Everything's working normal? And the mobile AP is really usable even if it's not froyo.

As was said, Fusion is a 2.1 ROM. "2.1-update 1" doesn't mean anything other than it's based off the firmware released a while ago by t-mo that "updated" the existing 2.1. As far as Mobile AP - that's not a 2.2 exclusive feature. I remember it being the first thing I enabled after rooting, but was still 100% 2.1 stock.
If you want 2.2 back, but also want the custom goodness that is TW, check out their Obsidian ROMS (or Onyx if you don't like touchwiz).

2.1-update1 is the version of android you are running. Not the model of the ROM. if you flashed Fusion and you see all the stuff that Team Whiskey added, then you're running fusion.

actually, it doesn't appear flash is working... when i went to a site that uses flash (for streaming music) it would not work....so apparently this is a problem i'm having?

Dude...you're not understanding that Fusion is 2.1, NOT 2.2! So obviously you won't have Flash 10 support.
You need to reflash a 2.2 based ROM if you want all the 2.2 capabilities.

diesel, thanks so much... sorry i missed that in your above post... you have been very helpful. i started a new thread asking about a 2.2 rom. Thanks guys!

After installing Bionix 1.6 w/ JI6 i patch back the stock backup but the phone still showing T959UVJI6 in the baseband version....

is it normal? that meen that i have T959UVJI6 update?
Try and Odin back to Stock JI6, JI5, or even JFD. There are roms for all in the dev section.

That is normal, Bionix 1.6 is based on JI6.
Sorry about that, didn't quite understand your question. As Master has said for the reasons stated above you have the latest and greatest (unless you want to put Eugene's 2.2 on there).
So you flashed back to stock using Clockwork? Something's fishy here.
What do Firmware version, Kernel version, and Build number say?

i had the stock version rooted, i flashed with the Bionix 1.6 and then i used the Clockwork to bring the stoke backup....
and when i check it is showing:
Firmware version 2.1update1
Kernel version 2.6.29
Build number ECLAIR
Baseband Version T959UVJI6
So just to make sure, when you hold down the Home button and it brings up the recent Apps menu does it have a Task Manager link at the bottom?

This is normal. Flashing back to stock will not change your kernel or baseband. Only using Odin to get back to stock will do that.

This. ^ Basically if you flash a new base band and than use a nandroid to go back to a different backup you will still be on the previously flashed base band because nandroid does not back up kernels or base bands. Only odin will get you back to a previous base band

Then you are NOT actually on JI6 and as the two previous posters have said, you are on the stock JFD, but with JI6 baseband. Sounds like you need Odin.

[Q] want to try a custom froyo 2.2

Hello folks,
I am some what new to the Android OS, I have a vibrant that has been updated with mini kies to the JI6 2.1 ECLAIR. I am anxious to try out Froyo. I thought I would wait awhile until the Devs could work out some bugs. I think that has happened by now. So I have three questions.
1. what is the most stable custom Froyo based ROM I can flash on my vibrant?
2. Is there a Froyo based ROM that already has mobile AP enabled for the vibrant?
3. Where (if possible) can I download a stock ROM of the vibrant? (Before you tell me to make one, know that mine is not stock, I have installed OCLF, and the JI6 update)
thanks for any help that can be given,
RAMROD

1. [ROM] Obsidian V2 - JK2 Official Froyo Based 2.2 - Team Whiskey - *11/08/10* Very stable for me
2. Yes [ROM] Obsidian V2 - JK2 Official Froyo Based 2.2 - Team Whiskey - *11/08/10* I think most of the Froyo releases have it now.
3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739091
This is my preference, seems very stable and can be a daily driver. I imagine its going to have an update soon, we'll see. I don't like TW, if you do, perhaps try another version (eugenes or TWs Obsidian).

Mobile AP should be in there, Im charging so I can't check.

-- Wait the link was to a "True Stock" 2.1 rom, are you saying that is your current preference over Froyo?
-- Your aversions to TW... is that you don;t like them personally, or you do not like their roms?
^ HAHAA, Sorry, let me clarify:
I LOVE Team Whiskey. I HATE TouchWiz (TW).
The link is to Onyx. It is 2.2 without TW (TouchWiz). It flies on my Vibrant... no FCs, very stable. I imagine they are going to have an update soon but the good news is they are not wiping data now so you can flash R21, then R22 and not lose anything. If/when they release R23 I imagine that too will not wipe data so you can just flash right on top and not lose anything.
LauncherPro is more appealing to me, more customizable and it's faster. There is nothing I like about TW better than LP. I also hate scrolling left to right (I know there is an alt way, but LP is better for me). Look at the downloads/comments for Onyx (no TW) vs. Obsidian (the 2.2 version with touchwiz) and you will see an overwhelming majority prefer no TW.

So I installed bionics Obsidian 2.2 on my vibrant using Clockwork rom manager. Everything went smooth. It installed and booted just great, I really liked what I saw. Only problem I ran into was I had purchased a app before I flashed rom. After flash, it was gone.. not just off the phone but not in the market either. No big deal normally I would just go into market and click Downloads and there it would be. Not this time, cant even find it doing a search. I paid like $14 usd for it so I would like it. But its completely gone. Maybe it wont show it to me because of the new firmware?
Now, it is not there and my first instinct told me to re-flash... So I open clockwork and try and re-install. I locate file on SD.. But, instead of rebooting into clockwork, it reboots like its going to and reboots again but into standard recovery OS mode.
What would be the easiest way for me to re-flash this using a macbook?
Remember reading somewhere that the market installed was the european version so some paid apps would appear. However i can't seem to find the post that originally mentioned this issue. Anyone else remember if obsidian was using the european version of the market?
C to the L-O-T-O-R-I-O, U-S, you just, lay down slow.
If you have clockwork still installed (the answer is yes if you have a team whiskey rom loaded), if you get to the standard pre-loader, recovery mode, just select "reinstall packages..." That should get you into CwR

Just got onyx up on my phone, and damn.... You were 11O% correct about launcher pro.. Did you buy the full version?

Regarding apps... don't forget to get Titanium Backup and backup not only all your apps but also their data. I recommend the donated pro version for $5.99 which makes the backup/restore process completely painless and automatic. So after you flash a new rom if something like you describe happens you can just recover your app from your backup.

Voodoo Not Working In Bionix-V 1.3.1 TouchWiz Edition

I have 2 Samsung Vibrants( t-959 ), and I installed two versions of Bionix, and still, no voodoo! It says something about the kernel not supporting extended sound controls.
Additional Info -
Firmware: 2.2
Baseband: T959UVKB1
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: Bionix-v 1.3.1 By Team Whiskey
Please help... Thanks!
Just try flashing a different kernel instead of a different ROM. Try Overstock or Tiger's Blood and see if that makes a difference.
I didnt know you could flash just the kernel! Thats pretty cool... Now how do I do it without messing up? Is there a tutorial, or do you just go into recovery, and install the sip like you would a ROM?
Did you go into recovery and enable voodoo and enable it to change your file system?
There are plenty of guides, take a look in the Bible or simply google, "how to flash kernel, vibrant."
Yes.
Here is a link to the kernel I'm using.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967861
My phone can handle the 2.2 version, but I would start out with the 1.4.2 version and see how that treats you.
In case you don't know, flashing through red recovery is done by pushing your power button and selecting Recovery, not by using clockworkmod.

You have voodoo, just not voodoo sound or color. Bionix 1.3 uses stock kernels so like others have said you should flash a custom kernel like Overstock. You flash kernels the same way you flash ROMs
Thanks for all the replies! Just to make sure I got this right, I downloaded and put onto the phones SD card Overstock 1.4.2. Now all I have to do is boot to Red Screen recovery, select the zip, and intall... Is this correct, or am I missing a step? I already backed up the stock ROM.

Hence the reason I said to flash Overstock or Tiger's Blood. You can even use Kernel Flasher from the market.

Correct, my friend. Just let us know if you have any other issues.
Thanks again guys! Only problem is I dont see that the Kernel was updated. Oh well, at least everything on Voodoo now works, and some of my apps seem to have a few new features... Plus it is QUICK! I went from 12.86 to 14.74 on linpack!

[Q] Advice requested - Upgrade my stock 2.1 vibrant

I am running a stock 2.1-update1 TMO Vibrant.
I have previously run Obsidian and also some team whisky axura flavor, before going back to stock 2.2.
I had stock 2.2 until I tried to flash the newest overstock kernal last night and bricked my phone.
I had a stock 2.1 recovery laying around, so long story short I am now at 2.1 stock.
I would really like to flash the latest overstock along with a good ROM but am not sure if I should be doing it from 2.1 or if I should kies up to 2.2 and then start.
Also, this whole red CWMR thing has me thoroughly confused. Where is this mysticl red lockworkmod and how do I flash it?
I was thinking Bionix-X for my new rom, but would appreciatte some feedback or other suggestions from the community on what roms are 'best'.
Thanks for any assistance, I appreciatte all info.

Hi, ok...lets clear some stuff first:
1. The red CWM Recovery means its a VooDoo injected kernel....almost all custom ROMs and kernels have VooDoo in it so it will be red.
2. The easiest way is to upgrade to a 2.2 ROM and get the Overstock kernel is to go back to stock 2.1 (which i see you've done already) re-root....DL ROM Manager and flash CWM recovery (which will be green at first), then DL the 2.2 ROM you want, like Bionix-V 1.3.1 and put it on your sd card and flash it.....like i said almost all custom ROMs come with a red VooDoo CWM recovery....so after you flash it....it'll be red....then you can continue to flash Overstock..
Thank you for such a concise (and quick!) response, greatly appreciatted.
Or just flash malice which comes with overstock

[Q] things not compatible, help me get get my phone the way i want

current setup:
bionix-V 1.3.1
Bali-X 1.2GHZ
KB5 modem
this ROM and kernel are freshly flashed after odining back to JFD. phone currently runs smooth. no problems. havent done anything else.
problem is i NEEEED a 4 tab lock screen. and im having trouble understanding all the KB1/KB5/ deodexed stuff.
my baseband version is KB5 (since flashing KB5 modem) but my ROM is still based on KB1? see, i dont really know what this means or have any idea what im talking about there...
but i know that this mod requires "KB5" and when i flash it, my phone freezes during the install.
now this is expected. someone else in the thread had the same issue bionix-v 1.3.1 and they were told to "make sure" their rom is compatible (cuz bionix-v 1.3.1 is not)
i dont know how to "make sure". And i could just flash another rom that someone else has used with that mod, or i could use a rom that comes with a 4 tab lock screen like Toxic Crazy8... but i am particular about a few other things:
- i really like the speed of bionix-v 1.3.1
- i like the gingerbread theme with bionix-v 1.3.1 and the launcher (im not using the version that comes w/ touchwiz)
- i like the option to overclock (which is why i changed kernels from the one that comes with bionix-v 1.3.1)
- i definitely need BLN support (which is another reason im changed to Bali-X 1.2GHz)
- i did not like Toxic Crazy8 or any of their themes for it and for some reason my cpu would not drop below 800MHz. i also did not like using CM7, found it slow for some reason.
so how can i have the things i like AND have a 4 tab lockscreen?
ps- i sure wouldnt mind using the new ice cream sandwich theme or something with a lot of blue
You flashed back to stock giving you eclair 2.1, this rom/addon is froyo. check your firmware under settings, about phone, are you eclair or froyo? whitehawx has a deodexed 2.2 kb5 stock rom in the dev setion.
i have 2.2 (froyo) becuz i have bionix. but nothing said anything about KB5 until i flashed the KB5 modem. and of course nothing says anything about deodexed
i'd hate to have to load a stock ROM with all the bloat and no fancy tweaks or themes or anything...
could i still use a kernel like bali-x? (i guess i can ask that question over in that thread...)
it seems that a number of mods and themes and whatnot require a deodexed ROM but i dont see many mentions of deodexing in the descriptions of the popular ROMs...
I believe whitehawkx lockscreen addon was for biwinning. bionix is a team whiskey pre deodexed build. check the ops I may be wrong but if you want the lockscreens, bi winning is a good build.
