Video Player - XPERIA X8 Themes and Apps

It's possible to play video on this device? How can I convert my video files to files which x8 understand?

It can take mp4 for sure : I have 2 videos in "/sdcard/video/"

You can try RockPlayer - Plays all divx videos so no need for convert the files at all the player is really great app and you can get it for free from the android market. I watch two movies both more then 2 hours long for a 50% battery so the player is great.

It looks like slideshow with software decoding, it's not works with hardware decoding.

It not play all avi formats well but works great for some if you have time to find out what format works on that phone but i Watch for example Fight Club on this and was nice and smooth also watch some Shows on it and it works great for that it`s very useful when you are at the bus or at the train and have time to kill.

When connected to the computer, download MediaGo from PC companion. It converts audio and video to x8 format, as well as adding it to the device.

yup. just use the media go from SE. it automatic convert the media file to match the hardware decoding. its an extra work but worth doing. to save some memory.

Cannot setup Media Go on my windows 7 x64 corporate. Fail while installing MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable package.

I use Avidemux GTK app on Ubuntu. Just use "auto->PSP" settings. it makes files that x8 decodes in hardware.

My favourite video playing app is arcMedia.
It is capable to handle largest video files thanks for video buffering.
But It is not working since I rooted my 2.1 with original rom.
Anybody knows why?
The problem is app2sd. arcMedia doesn't support app2sd yet.
I really wait for the update because you don't have to convert video files with it.
arcMedia plays normal xvid videos smoothly like desktop computers.

My pre-isntalled video player can't find any files, even those which i've recorded with camera. What's the problem?
What's the point of installing video player which can't find video files? for example if some1 buys x8 and don't want to use any of apps from the market, only pre-installed ones. so he can't watch any recorded videos? only getting there through camera app? it's the same with picture review.

Rockplayer v6 vfp version can play video rmvb well, of course, not as well as computer

It all depends on the encoding and the resolution of the files people.
Dont expect to be able to play a full hd avi or mp4 with a 600hz CPU!
Maybe the PSP compatible avi files you can d/l with utorrent work better.
N.

yeah,i would recommend you to convert the videos with Xmedia.(It Supports X8)
Its works everytime on my X8

I use yxplayer2, RockPlayer gives me a lot of erros playing the videos.

I can also say that vital player from market plays divx/xvid with no lag at all, for me it really is the best app of this kind.

to convert videos, try XMedia Recode or Format Factory

I use ImToo Video Ultimate Converter..
choose convert to android specification

there are lots of software players that play almost everything including mov and mpeg

Hi, Ive used RockPlayer quite extensivley and it played nice (even with subtitles) up untill last week when all of a sudden the video lagged awfully. I tried all the other players (yx, qq, arc...) and each and every one of them lags.
Now, Ive updated to the latest x8 software (from the first 2.1 release) and hoped it would help, but playback is the same.
Tried to enable JiT now, but that didnt help.
Any ideas why would something like this happen seemingly out of the blue?
EDIT: I might add that this is all in software mode (even for files that work in hardware mode). Id like software mode to work however because transcoding is kind of a pita job.
EDIT2: Found the culprit. H.264 @300kbps is too much for this phone period. Both xvid and divix play nice even at 1000kbps.

Can Dell Streak play 1080p or 720p Videos?

Hello Guys,
Just wanted to know if Dell Streak can play 1080p or 720p Videos or not?
I tried playing mp4/ avi files using Rock Player, they worked with lag, is there any work around?
Have you enabled the hardware acceleration in the build.prop?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I convert them to .mp4's to watch on my Streak.
The Streak is only 800x480 so theres no point trying to play a 1280x720 video.
A converted 720p .mkv file is soooo much better quality than its .avi counterpart.
I use the Touch HD Encoder, a very simple and effective program.
Can I ask what program u guys use to convert the video files?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
i use Rock Player from Market to play video files; i try 720p and 1080p mkv movies with subtitles and works perfect 100%, like on computer with hd video card .
there is a great program in the forum called "Encoder" - I have used it to convert videos to mp4 for all my previous phones to play without any lag.
I use arc media player, not come across a file yet that it wont play, everything from avi, to mkv to mp4, in any definition. Great apparently and its free!
Sorry if this is OT:
I am having issues getting my DVDs converted to digital on my desktop. I was trying to use handbrake, but it always came out funny (jagged sound and large rainbow pixels across the screen). I assume this is some kind of copyright protection.
Right no I am desperate to convert my library to digital back ups that I can toss on and off my devices at will. Any insight on how to solve my problem would be great.
I used Handbrake without any probs - did you choose the best settings? I used Presets Normal, Video Codec Mpeg-4 & Picture Size Custom - I resized using Aspect Ratio.
I followed a couple guides online. I m not even talking about it getting to the phone, it won't even play on the desktop.
So far I ve used these settings:
720x480
264
mp4
EDIT: Just for clarity. Should I be using VLC since Handbrake does not decrypt? (I read this after a google search please inform me if I m wrong).

[Q] HDMI video great! but no sound?

I know a lot of you are thinking this has been addressed before but my problem isn't getting the video to play in entertainment center mode but the audio.....
But the thing is that it will only play sound in video's i recorded with my camera.
What im trying to do is play videos that i have taken from my computer and put them onto my ext sd card.
So like i say the video is just fine but it will not play back with audio.
Oh and they are avi and mpeg formats
Any ideas guys and gals?
The Tegra 2 seems to have crappy video/audio codec support. The samsung processor in the captivate I had previously played everything I could throw at it.
Thankfully, the T2 is powerful enough to do some software decoding. Try using various video players. I find that MoboPlayer can run all my HD videos so far.
Also, just because a file is .Divx, .AVI, .mkv.... doesn't mean that it will play. As far as I know, there are different encoding formats and levels for each codec. The T2 seems to be okay with any basic file, but none of the highly processed files such as movie mkv's.
If you try download another programe in market you would can see
But we can't do the dane for media center....so the better you can do for now is convert your vídeo tio an old codec

did you get any feedback??
I've been using Handbrake and the settings from here:
http://www.knowyourcell.com/motorol...d_transfer_them_to_the_motorola_atrix_4g.html
The only difference is that I like to click the "keep aspect ratio" button in handbrake for the resolution. Tweak as you like, but I've found that if you use the constant quality setting, A/V gets out of sync. Biggest bummer is that I have to encode specifically for the Atrix...can't seem to use my "advanced encoded" videos from my media server. I have taken previously encoded 1080p HD movies back though handbrake with the referenced settings to the Atrix and they play beautifully both in MoboPlayer and the Entertainment Center.

Problem Playing Movies!!

Ok for last couple of days i've been trying to play movies on my x10. I've tried many players from the market and so far the results are:
Stock Player: Couldn't start/play any of the file.
Arc Media: Sorry, this video cannot be played.
Soul Movie: This video cannot be played! Please contact to the phone maker!
mVideoPlay: Sorry, this video cannot be played.
QQPlayer: Starts but wouldn't play anything (Force close when trying to go back)
MX Video Player: Starts well, loads subtitles and goes on for 5-10 mins with a little lag (which is fine for me) then starts to lag like hell and then video goes out of sync.
The video I'm trying to play is a BRrip, resolution is 1280x528 and is in mp4 format. (HD music video's I've downloaded from youtube seems to work fine with any player which is in same resolution) Some other movies in .avi format and lower resolution would play in some of that player but lags like hell.
NOTE: I've tried to set different settings of different player such as hardcoding and softcoding but they didn't work.
Any suggestion guys??
So only that BRrip doesn't play? You say youtube vids are ok...
Try Vplayer Pro, it works smoothly in my phone, so far i havent meet lags when playing any vids.
Sent from my SO-01C using XDA App
Ough..BRip in MP4..you mean in MP4 extention, isn't it..
Try to convert it to 720p resolution and change the Video Codec to Mpeg4 H264..
Can't play coz the resolution is not support by the player/phone..I guess..

No need of any conversion buddy, install mobo player from Market. Its free app. It actually plays anything u throw at it. Using it for over five months now. Plays even youtube .flv HD files flawlessly (Make sure the resolution is 720 or less). All the best...
Convert it to the same res as the x10, rather than letting the x10 do it on the fly. Your bound to get better results.
Try Mobo player. Plays any format and supports subtitles in .srt format. It would be nice to have option to change audio tracks in dual-audio files but at least works flawlessly.

Ok guys I tried mobo player it works, I mean it plays the file but it lags and gradually goes out of sync. This time the file was even in lower resolution. But convert seems to work fine. Now im gonna try different movies in different resolution and check which works and which not. Then I'll let u guys know. But in the mean time can u guys suggest me some good converter for x10? And the settings for those converter. I use Avs converter but its slow as hell.
Oh and guys I'm on cm7, just so u know.

MP4 is a simple format and can be easily played on our x10 on 720p(1280x576,1280x720)
MKV is used in Blu-rays now a days...
It can have many audios like a movie in 2 languages...
I play it in my x10 dual audio 720p...
The main thing is use doomkernel and overclock to 1228Mhz in interactive mode use MX video player.
Sorry if it sounds noobish but how do I use doomkernel and overclock in enteractive MODE?

I'll never understand why people want to watch 720p on a non-hd device. It's only eating up your resources.
Whether or not you can play videos depends on bitrate mostly but there are other reasons vids won't play. Just because 1 720p movie works doesn't mean they all will.

Is there a preferred file format for movies/video?

I've got quite a lot of movies and videos but some play better than others on my Android Tablet and some just don't play at all.
Does anybody know if there is a preferred file format for movies and videos because there are too many to choose from?
I just don't know which of the many options I should consider from AVI, Xvid, Divx, H.264 and any other flavour you can think of.
Cheers

Use mx video player x) no need to convert

If you want a format that any device will play including tv's with usb connectors, portable players as well as android devices then an avi video file with xvid compression and mpeg 3 audio is the most accepted and standard video format.
But if you just want videos on android then mx player should play pretty much anything.

I wish i was as simple as throwing MX Player at everything but sadly some MP4 file formats play so bad that I get around 8-11 frames per second. Some other MP4 file
s work perfectly.
AVI files work a treat however its a bit of a lottery with MP4 files as I cant work out what kind they are.
My computers can do the number crunching to mask this problem but my lowly ASUS Pad TF300T struggles at times.
I should point out that I'm streaming the movies from a NAS box at the moment. I haven't tried running some of these movies from the internal hard drive.

It could be the app your using to stream, I found some apps would stream pretty badly from my wireless hard drive.
Ideally you could play a problem file on your android from the device itself to check it plays fine and if it does you will probably have to convert to avi if they play better for streaming.
There are a couple of dlna apps you could try, can't recall the names as I watch videos via a usb stick on my tv now, but play store has a few. Alternatively if the app your using allows you to alter its buffer size you could increase it which would help.
If you have a windows pc you can install vlc media player and use it to see the codecs used in the problem videos. You may find they all have something in common maybe like ac3 audio. If so you can convert audio easily to something less processor intensive with pc freeware like virtualdubmod.

MKV and MP4 have much advanced features than AVI/TS files.
If you use Diceplayer , MKV is the best format.
multiple audio track / embeded subtiles / no problems on HTTP streaming
but Diceplayer plays most of files without transcoding.
Try switching to full software rendering (video+audio) in MX video player instead of hardware rendering to get rid of chopping and out of sync audio. It'll use more battery but I haven't had a video yet that it didn't play.

[Q] How to convert .mkv videos and subtitles

I have lots of movies in .mkv format with .srt subtitles.
Can you recommend a free Windows program that can convert these into one package that my S3 can play?

instead of converting you can try using mx video player from market, it has support for all types of subtitles
That's a good idea, and I will probably go with that - however at the moment I'm wanting to show off the features of my new phone to work colleagues, and popup play (although it's a gimmick) seems to impress! So I want to use the standard built in video player for that reason
Any suggestions? Is it even possible to combins .mkv & .srt into one file? I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to audiovisual stuff :-D

I tried using that and it seemed to be doing the job ok - (using the associated program MKVExtractGUI) it allows you to select the elements of video/sound/subs you want.
However the H264 file it spat out at the end won't play properly in VLC on my computer - it's jerky, jumping up and down from about 8 frames per second to 25fps and back again, lots of artifacts, and no sound or subtitles (despite me selecting those elements to be included).
If it barely plays in VLC on my laptop I doubt it's going to play on my phone...
Any more ideas?
Have you tried using the stock video player? It plays MKVs and subtitles out the box.
I tried that, that would be ideal - but it didn't play the mkv files i gave it. I'll try a couple of others and report back...
Ok well I've just found the first chink in this phone's armour:
It's very fussy about the .mkv files it will play.
It outright refuses some. Others it will play the video but no audio. Some it will play perfectly, unless you try and activate subtitles under the settings menu, in which case it craps out, freezes, and gives me a "this video cannot be played message." Even if I do manage to get it to play subtitles along with the video and audio, it's well out of sync - like minutes out of sync....

Well if you do have to end up re-encoding your videos, try out Format Factory. It's free and has a ton of options.
I would suggest using MP4 and 'burning in' the subtitles. If you can't understand the the language you might as well have them a part of the video.
Thanks, I'll give that a try
