Sorry if this might be a neweb question, but I couldn't find the answer online.
Is the phone carrier locked? If so can it be unlocked? Will flashing a new rom solve the problem?
Thanks!
Yes, mine is locked in Vodafone RO.
The method i've seen till now is with sim unlock code using imei number. Hope there is another way, because i don't want to pay 40$ for a code.
i'm new in the android bussines and i don't know about flashing and stuff.
i heard rumors about rooting your phone and installing custom android. that will unlock it.

1st I wanna say i came from an inspire so probably things are a bit different.
I bought a att atrix, now I will be using this in the dominican republic so i need unlock, in the inspire rooting would give you radio OFF and your device would be unlocked, after reading here unlocking BL and Rooting won't give you sim unlock and the best thing to do would be to buy an unlock code from ebay. Some one please confirm this.
Now the device comes with gingerbread, I don't need to flash an sbf right? I can go straight to unlock the bootloader?
Now to unlock the bootloader, ive seen several methods, the easiest ones seems to be the Script which has everything, but after readying the latest posts, almost everyone is getting issues? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871 is this recommended or not?
ALso found this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202883&highlight=sim+unlock
Just wanted your input on how should i unlock the bootloader since getting the money for the phone wasn't easy and I don't want it lost by hard bricking.
Also any insight on further processes like installing CWN and Rooting would be helpful.
Thanks in advance, will thank people who help.
Anybody? Hello?
Call or chat to AT&T customer support for sim-unlocking your phone. Better to use online "Chat" since they'll ask your phone's IMEI # and you don't want to misspell it. Atrix is not exclusive to AT&T, so if you're kind and reasonable enough, they'll give the unlock code to you for free. Call again if you're denied at first, I'm sure you'll meet someone who wants to help you. I just got mine a few weeks back.
For BL unlocking and rooting, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600 if you're new to this.

No, it does not mean you can use any sim card.
my phone is network unlock, i cant upgrade my firmware via seus or se pc companion. but you can use flashtool to flash roms
thanks you both, after searching ive finally gathered it has to be sim unlocked by
factory, network provider.
using sites like http://simlock.com/ and da vinci team does this affect the bootloader unlock? i.e. flashing different kernals? im sure i read in the bootloader post that using 3rd party unlock your bootloader is locked again?
so for instance if i sim unlock from the sites mentioned, is my boot loader relocked or will i have to unlock it again after sim unlock?
at the moment my x10i is network locked to orange but 2.3.3 root/unlocked bootloader via flashtool.
I went whit cellunlocker.net
the best, used it on 3 phone.
takes about an hour to receive a code
and it do NOT interfere whit unlocking the boot loader
free unlock code from [email protected]
I called att today and to my suprise they gave me free unlock code for my sony x10 I bought it from a buddy of mine that got two phones lasy year and didnt pay the first bill

sry for spam thread
Hey guys!
so i bought a Motorola Atrix 4G on ebay. (I am not from the US).
I managed to unlock it and put on Cyanogenmod.
Afterwards i got the problem that the sim is locked to the AT&T network.
I called the customer service and they gave me the unlock code which suits to my IMEI.
Unfortunately the code did not work. The person on the phone said that the phone is now locked to the AT&T SIM-Cards.
Is there a way to fix my problem? I read another thread, where the person said that he flashed the radios 2 or 3 times.
but the links are dead.
best regards
nextcard
One thing is that the device is hardlocked and other is unlock code not accepted. The thread is about code not accepted. Theres a method to unlock hardlocked but requires unlocking equiments, which i have. Maybe an unlocks dedicated store near you have it.

Hi i just unlock my device after hours of investigation. Yes, you have to change the baseband. Here is what you have to do. Flash the baseband to the ones from brazil (search in google sbf not the zip ones), after the process you can put it back to the usa at&t radio. Ones you change to tha brazil radio (wipe always before changes radio), put one sim card of another provider and voila, the code will work. You need to have your phone with no registration of motoblur at all.
I hope it will help you.

Hi all,
The S3 is my first Android phone, so sorry if the question is redundant or dumb. But i couldn't find any clear info on the subject.
I bought a S3 locked under a promotion to unlock after 2 days with a code that was provided by the carrier, and now i have the
phone unlocked and using a SIM from another carrier.
While reading through the wanam lite thread, i noticed that the kind of unlock i have might not be considered a factory unlock.
My question is if can i flash my phone with a customized Rom (like wanam) and still retain the unlocked state? This kind of unlock is permanent?
Or i will brick my phone?
Thanks

Carrier unlock should be permanent . Ask your carrier is it permanent if you are unsure .
Factory does not lock phones carriers lock phones .

This might be a stupid question but I want to ask anyway. I just bought a T-Mobile Note 2 (I searched that specific forum for answers as well) and am awaiting a sim unlock code from T-Mobile. (I know I can downgrade to 4.1.1 and unlock it via the hidden call menu but at this time I am not opting to do that). I flashed the 4.1.2 Root Injected Stock Rom. My question is, (which maybe I should have asked before hand) Will I be able to use the sim unlock code that T-Mobile provides me with despite being on the root injected 4.1.2 stock rom? Thanks!

Root will not prevent you from unlocking your SIM with the unlock code. Rooting your device and having root access is different then SIM unlocking your device. Overall, you should be all set once your SIM unlock code comes to carrier unlock your device.
