Hi all,
The S3 is my first Android phone, so sorry if the question is redundant or dumb. But i couldn't find any clear info on the subject.
I bought a S3 locked under a promotion to unlock after 2 days with a code that was provided by the carrier, and now i have the
phone unlocked and using a SIM from another carrier.
While reading through the wanam lite thread, i noticed that the kind of unlock i have might not be considered a factory unlock.
My question is if can i flash my phone with a customized Rom (like wanam) and still retain the unlocked state? This kind of unlock is permanent?
Or i will brick my phone?
Thanks

Greetings All,
Am new to android world and was wondering if you guys can help me here.
I have a sim locked HTC hero phone from Airtel ( Indian Carrier ) I realise I can get it unlocked and use any other sim.. however, I would loose the warranty bit of the phone. Just wondering, would I be able to lock it back if something goes wrong to send it back to HTC?
Also, any Airtel hero customers here? can you please confirm if the phone lacks any features when compared to unlocked hero's? if yes, will we get the phone to be "normal" after unlocking it??
Thanks for taking your time to help.

Removing the SIM lock from your phone should not invalidate your warranty, at least not here in the UK.

Dave
EDIT: I should add that rooting and/or installing a custom ROM on your phone, would likely invalidate your warranty but this is a completely separate issue from removing the SIM lock.

Thanks for your reply. warranty becomes void here if you unlock it. Do you think we would be able to revert it to the original state if need be?
I don't know of any way of relocking a SIM lock on the Hero. You could try PM'ing ferraripassion as he may know.
You may find that you are better off using a RebelSIM (hint: Google RebelSIM) rather than unlocking your phone.

Dave
Sorry if this might be a neweb question, but I couldn't find the answer online.
Is the phone carrier locked? If so can it be unlocked? Will flashing a new rom solve the problem?
Thanks!
Yes, mine is locked in Vodafone RO.
The method i've seen till now is with sim unlock code using imei number. Hope there is another way, because i don't want to pay 40$ for a code.
i'm new in the android bussines and i don't know about flashing and stuff.
i heard rumors about rooting your phone and installing custom android. that will unlock it.

No, it does not mean you can use any sim card.
my phone is network unlock, i cant upgrade my firmware via seus or se pc companion. but you can use flashtool to flash roms
thanks you both, after searching ive finally gathered it has to be sim unlocked by
factory, network provider.
using sites like http://simlock.com/ and da vinci team does this affect the bootloader unlock? i.e. flashing different kernals? im sure i read in the bootloader post that using 3rd party unlock your bootloader is locked again?
so for instance if i sim unlock from the sites mentioned, is my boot loader relocked or will i have to unlock it again after sim unlock?
at the moment my x10i is network locked to orange but 2.3.3 root/unlocked bootloader via flashtool.
I went whit cellunlocker.net
the best, used it on 3 phone.
takes about an hour to receive a code
and it do NOT interfere whit unlocking the boot loader
free unlock code from [email protected]

This might be a stupid question but I want to ask anyway. I just bought a T-Mobile Note 2 (I searched that specific forum for answers as well) and am awaiting a sim unlock code from T-Mobile. (I know I can downgrade to 4.1.1 and unlock it via the hidden call menu but at this time I am not opting to do that). I flashed the 4.1.2 Root Injected Stock Rom. My question is, (which maybe I should have asked before hand) Will I be able to use the sim unlock code that T-Mobile provides me with despite being on the root injected 4.1.2 stock rom? Thanks!

Root will not prevent you from unlocking your SIM with the unlock code. Rooting your device and having root access is different then SIM unlocking your device. Overall, you should be all set once your SIM unlock code comes to carrier unlock your device.

I'm selling my Sprint Note 3 that I had rooted before the lollipop upgrade. Since then I put a lollipop rom on it.
Two stupid noobie questions that I couldn't find answers to when I searched ..
1. Since I'm rooted am I also unlocked ... can he use an att Sim card and use it on att?
2. Do I need a specific rom that would make this possible ... or is there a way to test it to prove to him that it works?
Thanks for the answers.
Just FYI... There's a difference between unlocked carrier and unlocked boot loader.
You do not need a custom ROM to use another Sim card, but you need to unlock the carrier on the phone

Is there a way to tell if I did a carrier unlock? I don't really even remember what method I used to root it.
You unlock the boot loader to flash a custom rom?
To sim unlock you would have had to run SSU.app or GT.app to international unlock then odined a older radio mj4 or mi3. Then change the APNs to match the carrier's settings for internet and mms messages.
I called sprint and got the master unlock codes ... is there an easy way to unlock it now that I have those?
