hi!
does anyone know about finding out more free space on the primary memory of e10i???
now i have about 178 MB FREE...
What i removed:
Se CrapWare Apps;
DOP.ISO
Cleaned Dalvik Cache (Titanium is great!);
So, there's anything else to CLEAN?
Assuming you've got adb installed, do this from a command prompt...
Code:
C:\> adb shell
$ df
that'll tell you how much space is free in your /system and /data partitions (and all the other mount points too)

Thanks. Dalvik cache clean recoverd more than 8mbs for me. Now what does Dalvik cache store ?
Hey, the the Dalvik cache should make your phone faster, see this link for more info:

Hi there
as I asked, I really want to know how these things actually work.
From my understanding, even though we have App2SD, the internal memory is still decreased everytime we install new app because it will generate the cache for that application (I tried install 5mb app, and what i get is i lost around 1mb of internal memory) is what I understand correct??
Now I currently have 150+ app installed in my phone with App2SD and I have 27mb internal memory left. If I move the dalvik-cache, my internal memory will boost up to 98mb. And if I install more apps, the internal memory won't be decreased anymore. but should I move the dalvik-cache?
According to some thread, it said that we shouldn't move dalvik-cache since it will make phone slower. But in my case I only have 27mb left in my internal memory so I can only install around 30 more apps. What do you suggest in this case?
Thx so much
PS. I attach the photo, pls have a look, why there are so much memory used in Data? thx
moving /data/data to sd would better than dalvik cache

Thank you, I did it but still... when I install apps, my internal memory is deceased Because dalvik-cache still affects my internal memory right? But I think I lost less internal memory compare to before(without moving /data/data to sd)
Is this mean I have limited of app installation even though I have app2sd?
thx
yes,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalvik_virtual_machine
you may take at look at DalvikVM so you would know what does dalvik-cache do actually.
Rather than moving /data/data,
you may try to delete market, google map, browser cache and make a symlink to sdcard as well

Where is the cache located for market and browser? What folder/files do you actually symlink to sd card and how do you do it?

yeah, I would like to know how as well haha
Can you teach us how to delete market, google map, browser cache and make a symlink to sdcard?
thank you
i would like to know too.. please do tell
Was already asked on the original Link2SD thread but cannot find the answer anywhere there.
Say you have tons of stuff installed via Link2SD on /data/sdext2 (extX partition on SD card). Now:
- you go to recovery and wipe dalvik cache (or use something else to wipe it, does not exactly matter)
- on reboot, the cache gets rebuilt on /data
- hmmm, I said I have lots of stuff on SD
- so, you run out of space on /data ?! Now what?
IOW, how early does the Link2SD thing kick in? Does it prevent such things?
Hmmm... so, I wonder whether my question is too stupid or too difficult.
I'm also using link2sd with about 261 apps installed (according to Titanium Backup count)
Here's the step on my Optimus One (total internal memory: 209 MB)
before clear dalvik: I have about 78 MB free
1. boot to recovery (i'm using CWM) > advanced > wipe dalvik
2. reboot system
3. first time get into OS, there's notification low space on phone's memory
4. checked free space: only 28 MB free
I have to manually link dalvik cache to achieve the free space before (78 MB).
Thanks to the dev, on Link2SD 1.9.1 there is a menu to relink all dalvik cache at once, so I don't have to recreate link per one apps.
I think link2sd automatically link app-dalvik-lib files for newly installed apps only.
It can't detect a dalvik file recreated back into phone memory with apps still installed.
got the same problem.
It's a big issue when changing kernel and stuff
I created a partition of 512 MB on my 16GB card to install LINK2SD but eventually ended up formatting my whole data. I did install Link2sd and then moved up all the huge apps like Yahoo Messenger with the plugin and other games and stuff. I had free internal space of about 77MB, I switch off my phone and I turn it on and its 33MB. What to do?
have you do titanium backups or nandroids before using link2sd? it is possible to damage your system severely and you shall have done that.
second, for ur issue, try checking the memory displays in link2sd
are you sure the app "link2sd" is placed in the phone storage? it may have moved back the apps after a reboot
did you note down what was the internal memory space before performing link2sd? was it 33mb?
hope i helped and good luck

Yeah I restored my titanium backup. Before installing link2sd it was around 28 MB. After moving the apps it was around 77MB and now after a restart its like 33MB. Yes I did check from the storage info option of link2sd.
I heard [Read rather] somewhere that Link2SD sometimes unlinks the libraries after a reboot, If you had cleared the dalvik cache, the dalvik cache of all the linked apps would have also been unlinked. So, if you link all the apps again, It will again free the space on your Phone memory. I have to do it everytime I clear the dalvik cache or I reboot my phone for some reason. It is irritating because I have 93 apps and It is time consuming to do all manually everytime.

ahaha, true true
so i recommend app2sd+ instead of link2sd or whatever2sd, of course only if your rom supports it
I've never had Link2SD unlink anything. If you have any apps on the sdcard prior to use, it screws up, and if you move widgets it will as well, but I've been using Link2SD with stock LGP509T rom for months now with 0 issues like what you're describing.
If you wiped dalvik cache, you need to relink it. For libraries, do not bother, they will just get extracted back no matter what, so...
I read in a lot of threads where people recommend wiping "cache and Dalvik-cache" to fix a variety of problems. I know apps have their own cache but does the Eris have a cache other than Dalvik? I'm using GSB 3.8 and I don't see another cache, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
Dalvik-cache files are split up into two different locations. The dex files for your system apps are in /cache/dalvik-cache and the dex files for your installed apps are in /data/dalvik-cache. The popular cache2cache script moves the files from data/dalvik-cache to the cache partition to provide more space on the data partition.
Besides dalvik-cache files, the /cache partition is also where market apps are temporarily downloaded before being installed.
Hope that helps.
OK, I use Zach's C2C script so clearing one dalvik location clears both and I was aware of the temp download location also. I guess I'm not missing anything, but I wanted to be sure. Thanks.
Hi All
Really am getting tired of running out of memory on my rooted htc desire. I used the CyanogenMod and now the Mildwild 5.0 but i`m only managing to install around 5-6 apps before i get the memory is low notification and am unable to install anymore. Any ideas what i`m doing wrong before I go and buy a new phone to end this madness hehe?
For example According to Mounts2SD app my storage is
Internal (/data) 132mb of 147mb
External /sd-ext 75mb of 3.75gb
Cache /sd-ext/cache 75mb of 3.75gb
Applications 10.85mb
System apps 2.0kb
Data 53Mb
Dalvik Cache 70.97MB

Maybe your phone is running heavy apps in the background while you are not using them. Go to settings then apps and then go to running and choose some app and stop them from running while you are not using it.
Apps usually install to internal (/data) partition. Look into partitioning the sdcard and using link2sd to move apps and much of their data into the second partition (rooted phone requiered).
When you move apps to the sdcard, you are only transfering the apk file and libraries (if any). Dalvik cache and internal data go to the internal memory.
If theres free memory in the rom (/system) partition, consider converting your most used apps which remain on internal memory to system apps (youll be moving them from /data to /system).
