[Q] Frozen quick link - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Un-installed the Facebook application earlier and reinstalled it on restart in order to remove my duplicated friends on Facebook.
Once I restarted, I noticed a blank quick-link on the home-screen. I then tried to replace this empty quick-link with a shortcut to an application, but to no avail. I have tried dragging other quick-links into this space, but that shortcut just disappears. I can place shortcuts into every other quick-link space except this one.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Any help would be much appreciated

you can clear it via the registry....
give me a few minutes to look up the values.....

okay, you need
HKLM - software - htc - home
sorta misread your post but this may still work....
there are loads of numbered entries, one of them is the link you want to clear, its probably still hanging onto some facebook related info, find it and delete the info relating to face book.
check its not set to read only.....
hope that helps.....

I have done exactly what you have said.
Gone into HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome
and all there is in the folder is another folder named SMSMMS, both of which are empty folders

Sorry dude, should have been
"hklm - software - HTC - manila - home"
My bad..... sorry

Bit of a "newbie" to this kind of registry thing as you amy have guessed.
You have any idea how I could find out which one corresponds to the boxes that are not working??

don't worry, i managed to fix it using a bit of guess work, mixed with logic.
i saw that folders 5 and 16 were missing, so i copied the data from another folder, and pasted it in, seems to have solved the problem.
thanks for your help.
couldn't have fixed it without you

ha ha
consider your "newbie" status lifted......
I would have never thought of that!
glad you got it sorted......

what folder did you copy? my number 6 & 9 are missing?

i didn't copy anyone in particular. just copied the contents of one, and pasted it into a new folder. i don't think it makes any difference which one it is though...
hope it helps.

[Q] Android pictures on HTC Sense pic tab....

I have a problem.... i loaded Android and it is good, a couple of cons but all great but on return to windows mobile i found that my pictures on the pic tab had 99 photos... All i could see was android pictures etc. these pictures were not photos that i tould but the thumbnails from android. On my sd card i have a DCIM folder and in there i have my windows mobile pictures that i have taken. Also in the there is a folder called .thumbnails
I new this must come from android beacuse in the root of the sd card is a . files...
Anyway, i moved this thumbnail folder to the root of sd and started android. everything was as it is... i turn off then on, loading windows.... and check photos tab... still there...look in file explorer... it created it self a new one.
The problem i have is that it clogs it up and slows it down while i am scrolling through for a picture.
IS there any way to fix it?
HD2
Android 2.2 (if needed)
Cookies home tab editor (again if needed)
IF THERE IS ANY THING ELSE TELL ME....

If is it would be great. If not... there's an idea
hi, i encountered the same issue, still figuring how to fix it too...
now all in the picture tab on hd2 wm sense, are the thumbnail pics from the android.
initially, i thought the sdcard was corrupt, but i found the .thumbnail folder in the dcim folder on the sdcard... and all the photos are still intact.
anyone can help?
Using HTC Album, browse to the folder you wish to see as your default and then from the Menu within HTC Album, set it to be default view in Sense(not sure of exact wording or menu order but I know this is possible as I've done it.
thanks for the reply, base on your reply, i managed to search for another solution,
http://www.jayceooi.com/2010/02/08/how-to-hide-folders-with-pictures-from-htc-album/
the above link shows how to hide folders within the dcim folder from htc ablum
both which i had not try, will try both later when i'm back in winmo.
hope either one solves the issue.

well using what you have told me i have found the steps you are talking about...
you go to htc sense picture tab and press album. from there you press albums on the left.
it then comes up with a list of pictures folders etc, choose the folder you want (if you had it like me it would be 100media . then click on it.... choose menu a click use this album as favourite...etc.
there you go no android pics clotting up your htc
if you go through the "leo tips and tweaks" thread it will give you the reg entrys to ignore certain folders from the htc album......
i usually just delete that folder once a week to stop it building up and up...

[Q] Bump App random Photos

I posted this over at AC and didnt get a nimble maybe someone here knows how to fix it. I was going to "bump" photos to a friend and in the photo section in that app it had a million photos that I have already deleted. I have looked in all the directorys I could think of and cant find these phantom photos. I want to delete them permanently. They are definitely deleted them from "my albums" and dont show up in there. Please help. Thanks!

I do not know much about the app outside of the basics, but is it possible that there is some kind of "bump cache" that it is pulling the images from and it is not getting cleared when you delete the image? Just a QUICK reading of the FAQ, it sounds like you need to update the information you want to share with each adjustment to that info.
Again, that was a quick read through and I may be wrong
and find this where?? there isnt a "bump" folder on my SD card. I have no clue where they r coming from
I dont have this app on my phone but, i would suggest un mounting and removing your memory card...go into your gallery (or what ever way your finding these phantom photos) and see if they are still there. I know this won't actually help you find them. It will just verify that they are in fact somewhere on your sd card... but which file..what are they named ??? i dont know. The permissions list for said app says it wants to modify contacts and other setting..maybe deleting and re-doing the particular contact that you sent all the photos to will fix it ? Again I dont know much about how files are stored or modified by apps that we put on our phone, but if I had this problem I would start there and if it is in fact some where on your sd then you could copy all files on your sd to a pc and at least if you delete something you weren't supposed to you could always copy that file back from said pc...just my .02 good luck I'm sure someone has also had this problem...when in doubt google can be your best friend sometimes!
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Well I just installed and reinstalled the app and that got rid of the pictures. Dont know where they were or anything but they r gone now. Resolved

Issue with creating new folders in Miui.

Question: I'm not being allowed to create new folders in Miui, anyone might know why? Or is anyone have the same issue? I'm able to create an initial folder and I have placed several apps in there. But when I go to create a new folder, it creates (essentially) a duplicate folder which then I cannot delete as it has the same apps that was included in the previous folder.
Do I just have to create several empty folders right off the bat? Doesn't seem like this should be necessary.
Edit: Ok, cannot create multiple different (content-wise) whatsoever. Using 1.7.15, btw.
I was having the same problem on my Nexus S. So I tried the same thing you did: I setup 4 different folders and copied an app to the first, another to the second, etc. All the apps showed in each folder... I then moved them back out, re-added separate apps in each folder and it seemed to work at that point. I closed and opened the folders a few times and even added a new folder, put in another separate app in that folder and so far, no duplication. Trying to organize now and hopefully it doesn't screw everything up when I'm all done. Seems like it's just a glitch.
UPDATE: about 5 folders in, it started happening again, so I moved the apps out and restarted and then moved them back in and no duplication. This is driving me nuts, if I weren't an OCD case.
Glad I'm not the only one suffering from this. Very weird glitch, though. Went back to CM7 already as it's a major dealbreaker for me.
this Is a new problem because it worked in the previous build.
Known Problem
I was reading up on this on the MIUI forums yesterday. It is a known issue that did indeed crop up on the 7.15 build (My birthday killed it!).
Workaround: Create a folder, reboot. The folder will be empty. Yes, I know this is annoying. Sorry. That's what's available. Thankfully I only need about 4 folders, so I only did 4 reboots. lol.
Anyways, they are working on it. That's the happy answer. Somebody linked to a site with crazy text where they are talking about the glitch, but I think it was in Chinese, and I didn't feel like going through a Google Translate.

annoying folder

Hello All,
I havnt been on here in a long time, but something is bugging me.
On the internet bookmarks there are folders labled as the gmail addresses that i have set up on the phone.
Nothing is saved in them and I want to get rid of the folders.
Isit possible??
Phone is standerd, not rooted.
Thanks in advance!!
Let 'em be, empty folders don't hurt anyone. Have you tried deleting them? Just do it, won't hurt your device (my non developer opinion).
Hello, I just hate them being there, I know it wont do any harm in removing them but i just cannot figure out how to remove them, long press does nothing
You need to be rooted for that.
Now, what are you doing checking your device's folders anyway?, no wonder it's bugging you.
don't be folder hatin' now
The folders are in my internet bookmarks at the top which i find gets in my way
Rename them to "I don't mind this folder being here 1" & "I don't mind this folder being here 2".

[Q] .tcookieid file....?

just noticed today a file, .tcookieid (33 bytes in length, dated yesterday, opened file, about 30 characters of Hex), has appeared on my M8 in every folder on my SD card, and is also on the root dir. anyone know what it is?
Have you recently installed ifonts app?
I saw that I also had this file throughout my sdcard.
The only thing I can think of is that it has something to do with how ifonts deals with replacing and/or backing up your current Fonts.
I found your post after a google search about it. But there is not much info about it (that I can find)
It may be that everyone knows what these .tcookied files are and me and you are a pair of idiots lol.
But I figured I'd post just so you wouldn't feel on your own!
I'm gonna keep searching for answers and if I find anything I'll let you know.

there could have been an update to ifonts recently, in the past few days, cant really remember as i have so much stuff getting updated daily. but ifonts makes sense as to what is making this small file. its harmless anyway, just wondered why it was appearing. surprised no one else has picked up on it here on XDA (apart from ourselves)...
Hello there,
Even i stumbled upon this post from the Google keyword query, my SD card was displaying as being damaged, so i was closely examining the contents of my SD card and i found this newly created file.
It was only in the root path of the SD card, nowhere else.
Even i think that this file might have belonged to iFonts, i have uninstalled the app and removed the file after iFont messed up my factory font restoration pretty badly.
same here
On every folder on my sdcard appeared a file called .tcookieid with a strange code inside
I just installed some new application this afternoon, i am 100% sure that i hadnt it some hours ago.
If someone know what is the cause or what is this please let me know.
I cant find nothing on google
Just found it myself..delete some of it..i hope it doesnt affect my files.....curious?????

Well iFont has never even been near my device, I hadn't even heard of it until this thread. So either something else creates it too or it's nothing to do with iFont.
These little buggers are all over my SD card and internal storage.
I have the same issue on my LG G3.
I've never heard of iFonts, So why there are so many .tcookieid files all over my Internal AND External SD cards?!

Totally same
i have it all over my sd card
+1, Z2, no IFonts ... weird ...
find . -type f -name ".tcookieid" -exec rm -f {} \;
Not sure what it is. I found one website which gave information stating that it's recognized as a form of a Trojan virus that collects info and sends it somewhere. Can't verify that, however, if you want to remove them all then open up terminal, change directory to root of internal sdcard and copy paste the command above. Do the same for external sdcard as well.
I haven't seen them come back yet, but if it does, then best believe I have every intention of wiping my device out and restoring with a pure stock Rom.
EDIT: I noticed that it's not just the internal and external storage. Its everywhere on the device. However, I still have not seen it come back on my device since I have removed them.
same issue, not that alarming
I believe they are a direct link to a cookie on websites to keep track of your browser traffic, lots of websites use them, some more aggressively than others, I just delete them through 7zipper 2.0. If you stay on top of it, check once a week, it doesn't get too out of hand.
Read this article; type in your browser "what is a cookie?' And click the link, ".... All about cookies" I can't post links yet, sorry.
Correct me or add to if you find anything else

It's more of a headache than a threat, its a file that allows websites to keep up with browsing history on websites to give suggestive sites on your mobile browser through their cookies. Read this article and put 2&2 together. Type in "All about cookies" in your browser, I can't post links yet, sorry. I just monitor my files closely and it doesn't get out of hand checking once a week, but that would depend on how much you surf and what sites you go to. Hope this helps!
Fill me in on any extra details

Me too never had that app but many others have come and gone. I have this file and many others stored in "miscellaneousfolder" or whatever on my Samsung Galaxy s5. I'm going on a deleting spree and still the numbers don't add up and oddly enough the bar reflecting the slices of memory shows a larger, I believe more accurate, slice of free space than my phone is telling me. Ugh I'm just gonna get a bigger SD card it'll probably solve everything.
How do I remove .tcookieid files?
I also have this problem. The files are all over my internal SD card and I need to get rid of them. Are they dangerous files?
I'm pretty sure it is caused by games that offer all sorts of in-app free stuff if you watch videos and such. As the name suggests it's a tracking cookie.

I too have found this file, it came from xmodegame which i had install for clash of clan. I think the file contain some kind of ID, for further exchange of data, this app get root permision and voilate privacy by tranmiting other data too. I have install in rooted device, my suggetion to refresh the ROM. Rest phone works only with non rooted device with root and also granted root, my guggetion is that refersh your ROM asap. 5his is leach (worm).
It is a kind of permanent marking. For each directory, the file has the same contents. After installation Xposed with xprivacy and refusal to provide android id, my device has been so marked. It is best to install the new clean rom.
Is it anyhow lethal to my data or my sd card .? should i worry about it .? help will be appreciated
